In this episode, Nathan Mech, program outreach project manager here at the Acton Institute, sits down with Ali Salman, co-founder of Islam & Liberty Network, to discuss his new book, Islam & Economics.Islam offers three moral principles of economic organization: ownership, wealth creation, and wealth circulation. Based on these principles, Islam and Economics derives a framework of operational institutional tenets for the economic organization of a society. It addresses all important business, policy, and equity issues that any economic system should resolve and broadens the discussion on the modern discipline of “Islamic economics.” In this conversation, they delve into the most contentious issue within Islamic economics, which is charging interest. They cover how Islamic banks have answered the Qur'anic prohibition on usury, and how Salman sorts through this problem. Next, they explore the Islamic view of taxation, and Salman made an Islamic argument that the only two permissible forms of taxation are wealth taxes and land use taxes. Based on his view of taxation, Salman built an Islamic case for a limited government.Islam & Economics: A Primer on Markets, Morality, and Justice Islam & Liberty Network On Islam available for first time in EnglishIslam and MarketsIslam and Freedom Bio | Ali Salman Subscribe to Acton Vault podcastSubscribe to Acton Unwind podcast See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Shaykh Ali Salman, the Imam of Masjid Tawheed of Detroit. Passed away on the night of Thursday the 10th of December in the year of 2020, which is Islamicaly considered Friday morning. He was born on the 15th of June the year of 1944 in the city of Bethlehem, Palestine. He has been in America as an Imam in the end of 1989 until it was time for him to go, in the way Allah predestined. He was well known in every community he was in Alhamdulillah and well respected. He had a lot of impact on a lot of people positively alhamdulillah. We ask Allah to forgive his sins and put him in the highest of ranks and places in Al-jannah (paradise). In Deed, The best of speech is the speech of Allah the Almighty And the best of Guidance is the Guidance of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) the worst of affairs are newly invented matters. Every newly invented matter is a religious innovation, and every religious innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Hellfire May Allah Save me and You And All the Muslims from HellFire Everyone shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your Wages in full. And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception (a deceiving thing) Allah The Most High Said: You Will Die and they will die as well “Gabriel came to me and said, ‘O Muhammad, Live as you wish, for you shall eventually die. Love whom you desire, for you shall eventually depart. Do what you please, for you shall pay. Know that the night-prayer is the honor of a believer, and his pride is being independent on others.'” Death is reality, Undeniable By Muslims Nor Kafirs But the Lesson is How do I Die And what to Die Upon And what is my methodology when I Die So We all have to know that Death comes Suddenly Death comes without an appointment With no arrangement Death doesn't have a specific situation or case Everyone Dies The Young and the Old and one in the middle Male and Female The Healthy may Die And the Sick maybe Delayed This is exactly why we All need to be ready for Death At Anytime By Fulfilling all the Obligations Staying away from all Forbidden things Doing all the good and The Beloved Actions Obeying Allah The Almighty As Much as Possible And if you make it until the night, dont wait for the morning..Just like the Prophet (Salla Allah Alayhe Wa salaam) Told Ibn Umar: 'Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveler. You will Travel real soon Death and What do You Know Of Death Death and the Agony of Death We have to contemplate upon the Grave and its Squeeze Horror Munkar and Nakeer The 2 great Angels Who come to all those who die To ask them Q#1 How was you relationship with Allah Q#2 His/Her Dean (religion) Q# What do you say about the man that was sent to you (Which is Muhammad Salla Allah Alayhe Wa Sallam) So whoever was a servant of Allah A follower of the Methodology of The Prophet(Salla Allah Alayhe Wa Sallam) And acting upon it. Then he/she will answer (correctly) Allah is my Lord, Islam is my religion And Muhammad is the servant of Allah and His messenger He delivered the message He was entrusted with How did you know that? I followed the legislation of the Mohammad Salla Allah Alyhe Wasalam I read the book of Allah the Almighty The say that they knew he will answer correctly As for the other type of person He would say "HA HA, I dont know" Because he never knew in this Dunia He wasn't a servant of Allah In fact he was a servant of the desires A servant of his Dunia Thats why by Brothers: This is an Advice for the Sake of Allah the Exalted Make your worries/concerns for the Day of Judgement Busy yourself for the day of Judgment The day of judgment is the appointed Date Those who think that death is the end, Are indeed on the wrong path And upon the wrong --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-revert/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-revert/support

This week’s podcast episode features a discussion between Imam Sheikh Dr Usama Hasan and Ali Salman about the modern notion of “lands of citizenship” within Islamic legal framework. Islamic jurisprudence, or fiqh, is often used to argue a binary world-view- Dar al-Islam or Dar al-kufr, divided between Muslims and Non-Muslims, or kafir. Citing the historical development of fiqh, Imam Usama Hasan shows a third way existed, Dar murakkab (composite land). He discusses the modern notion of “lands of citizenship” within Islamic legal framework thus replacing the medieval binary framework. During the discussion, he sketched out a diagram to simplify and illustrate his points and you can download the diagram in our show notes. Download by clicking here. (Imam Sheikh Dr) Usama Hasan is Head of Islamic Studies at Quilliam and was a founding advisor to the organisation in 2008. Usama also attends Quilliam’s board as a non-Executive staff member. As a teenager Usama became a radical salafi activist and, whilst still a Cambridge undergraduate, briefly took part (1990-1) in the ‘Jihad’ against Communist forces in Afghanistan. However following the 7/7 bombings in London, Usama took it upon himself to start campaigning against extremism and for religious reform within Muslim circles. Usama has written for The Guardian, The Times, The Telegraph and for the BBC Online Magazine. On this week's podcast, Laurence Louër speaks with Marc Lynch Shia Islamic movements in the Middle East. She speaks about Bahrain's situation. "It is really a case of what I call the domestication of Shia politics because Al-Wefaq was born in 2001 as a project to unify all the different strands of Shia political Islam in Bahrain. Ali Salman, who was the head of that, wanted to reconcile the Shirazi activists and the pro-Iranian activists because the two were really rivals." Louër is a research fellow at SciencePo and author of Transnational Shia Politics: Religious and Political Networks in the Gulf.
