Lange galten Soundbars als einfache und billige Lösungen, um den flachen Klang flacher Fernseher ein wenig aufzupeppen. Dann kündigte Sennheiser die erste teure Ambeo-Soundbar an, und sorgte damit für Aufregung in der Branche. Mittlerweile ist die große Ambeo längst nicht mehr die teuerste Soundbar, die man kaufen kann. Marken wie Devialet oder Bang & Olufsen haben noch aufwendigere Modelle nachgelegt. Und Sennheiser selbst hat mittlerweile drei große Soundbars im Programm, von denen die kleinste und günstigste immer noch fast 800 Euro kostet. Sennheiser hat mit der ersten eigenen Soundbar also einen ganz neuen und offensichtlich lukrativen Markt eröffnet, den alle anderen Hersteller bis dahin ignoriert hatten. Denn fast immer sind die Aufnahmen in einem geeigneten Raum entstanden. Und diese Rauminformation vermögen Stereo-Aufnahmen nur bedingt wiederzugeben, besonders über Kopfhörer. Doch tatsächlich gibt es bei Apple Music kuratierte Playlists für klassische Musik in Atmos erstellt. In zwei davon hat Olaf reingehört und präsentiert dir hier seinen abschließenden Tipp:Da wäre zum einen die Liste Classical in Dolby Atmos. Hier findest du 290 Tracks aus allen Epochen und Genres. Dabei sind viele bekannte Klassiker von Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Brahms und viele mehr. Aber auch modernere Lieder von Gershwin, Copland, und sogar John Williams oder Andrew Lloyd Webber.Die andere Playlist, die ich empfehlen möchte, heißt Classical: Choir/Opera/Vocal in Dolby Atmos und da geht es eben um Choraufnahmen, Opern-Arien und andere klassische Stücke mit Gesang. Anspiel-Tipps hier wären etwa die Carmina Burana von Carl Orff, die Winterreise von Schubert oder Verdis Aida. Zwar ist Olaf nicht der größte Fan von klassischer Musik, konnte allerdings in die beiden Playlists hervorragend abtauchen. My guest this week is audio restoration and mastering engineer Michael Graves, who's a four time Grammy award winner and 12 time nominee. Michael's main focus is saving historical audio that was recorded on deteriorating or obsolete grooved media, as well as more recent recordings where the sound is obscured for various reasons. Michael uses a combination of physical and electronic specialty techniques designed to rescue rare, one of a kind recordings or deteriorating media. This includes old 78 rpm records clouded by surfaces noise and years of neglect, right up to digital recordings that were done on some of the earliest pioneering formats. During the interview we talked about how his hobby became a career, why a high-end turntable is his secret weapon, the surprising styli that he uses to avoid record surface noise, why a stereo needle is preferred even for a mono record, and much more. I spoke with Michael via zoom from his studio in Hollywood. In this exclusive interview we talk with Brian Glasscock and Simon Beasley from Sennheiser to discuss the AMBEO microphone and Sennheiser’s focus on 3D immersive audio. The VR microphone will be a staple tool in any live action VR production and will launch in the third quarter of 2016, followed in 2017 by a bundle with the same mic and a software plug-in for post-production of VR content.
