POPULARITY
On this episode of Friendly Potential Radio, we hear from two pillars of the Aotearoa underground - Keepsakes and Ebb. Keepsakes's hard-edged and spirited music has been released on a hit-list of labels, including South London Analogue Material, Perc Trax, Mord Records, and Mindcut Music. He also runs HAVEN INTL, a club series and vinyl-focused record label that has released work from artists including VTSS, Tommy Holohan, Peder Mannerfelt, Ayarcana, Ansome, and Ryan James Ford. Ebb's releases for 1985 Music, Cutcross, Raw Basics, Subtle Recordings, and Par Avion showcase dark, menacing atmospheres, powerful sub work, fluid, impactful drums and otherworldly sonics. The Ōtautahi based artists are going head-to-head on the Saturday of Beacon Festival in March. We premier Latvian techno DJ and producer SKD's contribution to the 10-year anniversary compilation of Berlin queer collective and label ‘Gegen' with his track Serpents Of The Snake Pit. SKD is known to bounce through post industrial techno, techno and experimental electronic music. The Latvian natives slows it right down to create a heavy deconstructed drum workout at a steady chugging pace of 120bpm. Glaring synths, distorted percussion, unraveled kick drums and a harrowing vocal, make for a haunting and sinister broken beat chugger. Following on from a release on Webuildmachines alongside Headless Horseman, Opus Daemonii and more. The Latvian native comes in strong with an impressive drum workout for Berlin party heavyweights Gegen The third and final volume that we've premiered of the compilation comes with tracks from techno mainstay's Ayarcana, Espectra Negra, Hypnoskull, SKD and more. Celebrating 10 years of existence, Gegen will showcase their past decade of parties into a newly founded label, by showcasing the artists that have been at the heart of the infamous party series. The compilation is built on a sonic narrative arc, with releases growing harder, faster and harsher, mimicking the progression of a Gegen party. Gegen will be releasing the 3 parts every two weeks. Gegen invite listeners and friends old and new to a month long journey through the Gegen sound. We stop off in Cork for this weeks Local Selection, as we hand the controls over to 1/3 of the Elision collective, Dave O'Neill, as he provides us with an hour of Wednesday afternoon power. There's nothing we love more than hearing from DJs around the country, which is what the Local Selection series aims to do. The Elison collective have been on our radar for quite a while as both promoters and consistently solid DJs, so this mix from resident Dave O'Neil is a great addition to our evergrowing series. Dave is a Resident DJ of the Cork based collective Elision alongside Jack Devine and Fionn O Regan where they hold a residency in Dali. With Elision, Dave has been on the same bill as the likes of Bas Mooy, Dj Seinfeld, Ayarcana, Sunil Sharpe, Jamie Behan, Doug Cooney, Theologue and Offtrack to name a few, as well as making appearances at Mass Festival and Trax. He has recently finished studying DJ skills and music production in B.I.F.E under the guidance of Irish legends Sunil Sharpe, Defekt and Doug Cooney and is now furthering his education in B.I.F.E studying music production. featuring : Giant Swan, Claro Intelecto, Headless Horseman, Tommy Four Seven, Vofa, AM.MA, Geisform, Ayarcana, Ducerey Ada Nexino, Vaal, Restive Plaggona, Codex Empire, Axel Picodot and Hel.IV Interview Virtual Underground : How has this NGC 21 story started ? NGC 21 : It all started with my passion for music creation, audio and electronic music. Me and a friend of mine decided to make a summer tour in Europe on 2018 and I ended up living in Berlin. I just started absorbing the most I could from the music scene here and this set is a result from these last 2 years. VU : Where do you generally draw your inspiration from ? NGC 21 : Listening to good music with nice people around - going to clubs VU : Could you describe your music selection and mixing process ? NGC 21 : I like to select tracks that grab my feeling and attention, and try to play them in a very free way when I'm performing, trying to act as a passage between the music and the people. VU : Which software/hardware did you use for this set ? NGC 21 : For this set I used Rekordbox with a DDJ-RB mixer VU : What are you working on right now ? NGC 21 : Right now Im working on some new tracks I've been producing over this last year. Some more hard Techno, some with more atmospheric moods. #Underground #Electronic #Techno #Broken #EBM #Industrial folllow NGC 21 on Soundcloud @ngc21
After a couple of weeks of house, disco and DnB, we venture back into the familiar territory with an hour of techno, as we welcome Cork DJ, producer and promoter, Trail Of Thought to our weekly series. Although the name Trail Of Thought has only recently been bubbling under the surface of Ireland’s techno scene, the man behind the moniker has been a presence in Cork’s electronic music community for the last seven years, garnering experience and skill before coming into his own as an artist. Shane Miller's events starting out with under-the-radar DIY parties, including the use of an old cinema and a countryside warehouse, his club brand Prospekt eventually found a home in Dali, Cork. The event is now established as a techno night with a clear vision and booking policy. Prospekt was never originally about pushing international names and with Irish talents Maedbh O’Connor, Theologue, Cailín and Myler headlining the first few shows, Aeron, Bunkerterror and international heavyweights Clouds have since appeared on the bills, with Shane on support as Trail Of Thought, which is where his moniker has been gathering pace. Under the Trail of Thought alias, Shane has supported the likes of Bas Mooy, Ayarcana, Nico Moreno, Jamie Behan and Tommy Holohan. Our Local Selection podcast will be Shane's first recorded mix in 4 years and on this occasion, it’s a consistent supply of slamming techno throughout. An aural insight into the more straight-up, club-friendly corner of his collection, this is only one aspect of Shane’s approach as a DJ. With an adaptable aesthetic and evolving library covering all spectrums of dance music and now in the early stages of music production, Trail of Thought’s first instalment of our series has been just a glimpse of the young artist’s capabilities. So, for the next hour, grab a hard hat and stick this mix on full pelt, as this is a nightclub ready, no messing two footed tackler. It bangs. Video : https://youtu.be/JO6KnKtYdqQ Follow and support @opakdj Interview : Virtual Underground: How has this Opäk story started ? Opäk : I made acoustic music since was young. I play drums and I did a conservatory before starting to play blues / rock / punk with my friends! Then when I went to university, these projects ended, we were all in different cities. I made new friends, all techno fan. I did my first techno nights.... During one, when i was in party in front of "I hate models" at his beginnings, I knew that this was somehow the new essence of punk. So after started with playing with my first little pioneer mixing table and a computer, the Opäk project was born. Virtual Underground : Where do you draw your inspiration from ? Opäk : I find my inspiration in all the music that has nourished me from my childhood to here. From rock to metal, from blues to stoner, from EBM to Techno, from Techno to Acid, from industrial to hardcore. I often define myself as a "Industrial Techno " artist but in the end, I think the richness is to open up my influences as much as possible! if I have to name names that I have listened to a lot I will say The Doors, Rage Against The Machine, Official Motörhead, The Rolling Stones, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson then in techno I Hate Models, RVDE, Gijensu, Ancient Methods, Phase Fatale, Tommy Four Seven, Ansome, Ayarcana, Myler, TWAN and many other artists in the same genre. Virtual Underground : Could you describe your mixing process ? Opäk : For me the role of the DJ is like that of the sculptor, he must shape the atmosphere and take people on his journey. As a story it is important to have a beginning, a middle and a logical end, so the selection is made in such a way as to respect this narrative scheme! Then of course the best is to perceive only slightly the transitions between the tracks and that they bring a new breath to the set. Virtual Underground : Which software/hardware did you use for this set ? Opäk : I used CDJs and a DJM900 and then I equalized the mix on bleachton so that the audio quality and the feeling was pleasant, simply ahaha Virtual Underground : What are your next plans ? Opäk : What I prefer for the moment is the "show and concert" part I like to perform in search of people, their opinions, emotions. This is the area where I am most comfortable and very beautiful dates like the pulse festival, Entente nocturne arrive. I also created my own label: Askorn Records, which I intend to develop, and finally I am working hard to improve and work to release my first EP which should arrive in 2020.
French Techno producer aiming for precise production, trying to mix influences to get the most accurate image he would give to solid techno. He doesn't hesitate to release more personal analog / atmospheric tracks with the objective of surprising the scene. He signed on great labels such as OBSCUUR Records, Grounded. and Märked on the side of great producers like Ayarcana or Tim Tama. -- 039: Incident Prism from Brussels, Belgium Incident Prism @ SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/incidentprism Incident Prism @ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/IncidentPrism/

It's June the weather is HOT like our new Podcast from MOODY. Moody is a French DJ who founded Lunacy in November 2014, an organization that runs parties which brought his favorite artists to his hometown, Nantes. Ø [Phase], Headless Horseman, Phase Fatale, NX1, Ancient Methods, Dax J, Kwartz, Sleeparchive, Jeroen Search, Sinfol, Ayarcana and many more were on the bill. He is inspired by a raw and industrial techno, bringing his strong EBM / post-punk influences to make striking performance with some outstanding technical skills - and many hours spent digging in European record shops. Moody rides many big spots in France therefore it begins to have a solid reputation by trying to bring the vision of the party as it perceives. Crude and manifold. Enjoy ! Ida Mandato was born in a small town in Calabria in 1989. After high school, like many guys, she moved to the capital to continue their studies: here, finally away from the closed provincial mentality, and is able to express his artistic personality to bloom. Her sound refined and emotive is what characterizes every September Ranging from ambient sounds, dub techno, dark techno up to the sounds of industrial raw and violent, what we read between the lines is the telling of a story divided between two different worlds: the green landscapes of southern Italy is passed the industrial landscape of cities like Rome and Berlin, another city very dear to the artist. Music is the medium through which it is said: The console her safe haven, a place from which to protect themselves and at the same time be known by the rest of the world. Dj appreciated in the capital and followed internationally, to date he has played alongside the likes of UVB, Bas Mooy, Deepbass, Subjected, Eomac, Stanislav Tolkachev, Ayarcana , VSK, Black Asteroid and many others, always managing to make their mark.
