POPULARITY
Blasting his way into our series this week, Dutch producer Robin Kampschoer revs up the engines and lifts us off to higher spheres of consciousness through two hours of chiselled post-industrial sound engineering. Exploring the confines of techno, somewhere at the junction of proper raw, steely rhythms and further elevated ambience-scaping, the RKM boss and STOOR alum swings the pendulum betwixt full-blown warehouse-ready assault and inward-gazing escapism effortlessly. Elegantly brutalist, his approach is both one of nuance and impact, exalting and pensive in equal measure, never flinching in its quest for the sweet spot between raging horsepower and nostalgia-soaked harmonics.
Hailing from our home city of Rotterdam, local player and modular sound first-lady Megan Leber turns up in RYC's weekly series with two hybrid hours spanning off-kilter rhythmic experiments and atmospheric breakaways. Through her vividly textured tapestries and shape-shifting sonic explorations, the STOOR affiliate weaves moments of grace and tension with effortless poise, easing us into her idiosyncratically deep and pulsating headspace via intuitive routes and hypnotic bypaths. Leave all expectations at the door and let Leber's sizzling pool of raw, unadulterated sonic material soak up to the last drop of energy available and turn it into the most volatile fuel for raving. Mesmeric to the full.

Richard Fearless presents Metal Box, broadcast from his shipping container studio situated on the peninsula of land between the River Thames and the River Lea in London's East End. Fearless' career as a DJ, founder of cult band Death in Vegas, and head of the independent label Drone have cemented Fearless' reputation as a diverse maker and renowned digger. Expect a deep love of underground electronic music, with Fearless in the mix and the odd guest stopping by. On tonight's Metal Box we have something different, an exclusive two hour live hardware recording of ‘Multiples'. Multiples are a duo consisting of two masters of the craft, Rotterdam's techno hero, Speedy J and no other than Birmingham's finest, Surgeon, recorded live at Fabrik in Madrid. Their new album Two Hours Or Something is out now on STOOR records.
Episode 67 invites a producer, DJ, and live performer who is probably my most requested guest…. I'm happy to welcome @JochemPaap, also known as Speedy J. With a string of successful releases on Warp and Plus 8 throughout the 90s and early 2000s, Speedy J's name became synonymous with a special kind of driving, peak-time techno that helped define the genre. Although he's explored ambient, sampling, and the world of audio-visual, his deepest dive has been into live performance and improvisation, both solo and in collaboration with fellow techno stalwarts like Chris Liebing, Surgeon, and Lucy. His pandemic-inspired project STOOR is just the latest in a decade of devotion to the craft of live performance, welcoming other artists into the fold for an entirely improvised live show that can last as long as eight hours. In this conversation, Speedy J and I explore the intricacies of improvisation, the thrill of the moment, and how he captures captures that excitement in the studio. ++ Music: "Klave" - Speedy J (2010) (2021 remaster) "The Fun Equations" - Speedy J (1995) (2021 remaster) "The Oil Zone" - Speedy J (1995) (2021 remaster) ++ Follow AIR Instagram: www.instagram.com/_airpodcast/ Patreon: www.patreon.com/airpodcast Substack: airpodcast.substack.com/
Speedy J is a key figure in the history of Techno, most recently with the development of his improvisational collaborative project Stoor. Check out some of the epic ADE performances: 2023 JakoJako x Karenn (Blawan & Pariah) x Surgeon x Speedy J - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9D0sPIaSY4 2022 Dasha Rush x Rod20 x Rødhåd x Surgeon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMfbX6714j0 So of course we discuss that, but also the 30th anniversary of his landmark album Ginger. Released as part of the Warp Records Artificial Intelligence series, it was a key plank in the run of releases that made such a huge impact on electronic music. And an album that I smoked a lot of weed to as a teenager. This is a bit shorter than usual, but it's a good one... you're gonna enjoy it. Threading her way at the confines of techno and abstract electronics, interwoven with elements of industrial, dub and ambient music, Tresor's new resident Nadia Struiwigh occupies a peculiar position in today's electronic landscape, offering sonic experiences both truly unique and captivatingly immersive at once. Above and foremost, Nadia has been thrashing prejudices as to the limits and norms induced by so-called genres, styles and scenes, sending the headshrinkers back to the drawing board. With a solid bunch of releases for labels as varied as Dekmantel, CPU, Clone, DFA, STOOR, MORD, Infiné and Nous'Klaer, you can clearly see how incredibly magnetic her sound has proven to be. Here comes Nadia Struiwigh with two hours of utterly dazzling, boundary-busting bravura.
Always good to see Robin at Purgatorium on the big red machine Amsterdam's Most Wanted. Get ready for a hybrid set with his very own signature sounds! Active in the field of electronic music since the early 90's, Robin Kampschoer is an artist and composer whose works traverse the terrain between contemporary dance music and experimental electronica. Clearly establishing a unique sonic identity, while refusing to compromise to temporary trends, Kampschoer always remains true to himself. Apart from performing techno DJ and live sets in clubs and on festivals worldwide, more unusual projects have included multiple live jam sessions with other artists for STOOR's Stay Home Soundsystem, AV Surround Sound live sets on the Fusion Festival in Germany, an AV ambient live set in the Palais de Tokyo museum in Paris, and other AV projects and installations like the “Self Pollinating Light Organ” for the Amsterdam Dance Event in 2015. His released music include EP's and albums on STOOR, Rudiment, Dynamic Reflection, Diffuse Reality, Methodical, ATD Records, LET Recordings, Awesome Soundwave, Redevice, Bangbang, Studio Soulrock, and others. Gigs in clubs and on festivals include: Fusion Festival, Mixed Munich Arts, Palais de Tokyo, Paradigm, Reaktor, Shelter, Sisyphos, Studio 80, Thuishaven, Tresor, Trouw, Welcome To The Future, Zouk Kuala Lumpur, and many others. Past and present collaborations include Speedy J, the Dutch Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Manuel Rodrigues aka Deepred.tv, and others. @rkampschoer
Assipattle and the Mester Stoor Worm is a classic creation myth from Orkney relating to the battle between an unlikely hero and gigantic sea serpent. MerchTwitterInstagram Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Annie and Jenny delve into the rich tapestry of Scottish folklore, unearthing the legends of Godred Crovan and the Dragon and the remarkable tale of Assipattle and the Stoor Worm. Join us as we traverse the windswept shores of ancient Scotland, where the lines between myth and history blur like the misty Highland glens. First, Annie recounts the legendary tale of Godred Crovan, a Norse-Gaelic warrior king whose heroism and cunning changed the course of Scottish history. Next, Jenny explores the enchanting myth of Assipattle and the Stoor Worm, a story of an unlikely hero and a struggle against a colossal sea serpent in ancient Orkney.
