Mom completed another 3 day round of chemo. We got good news that her January scans show the cancer remains the same. No new growth! My friend Laura came to visit for the weekend. We spent Friday night at my parents' hanging out and watching movies. We briefly lost power but it came back; cable did not, so thankfully we still had some more screener DVDs. Saturday, we hit some secondhand stores before going back over to Mom's for dinner with my parents, my brother and nieces Riley and Millie. The next day we visited Dan's friend Perry who was recently hospitalized and then to see his youngest brother Dave & our niece Gabriella and nephew Zachary. Mom & I each got a haircut (real hair for me, wig for Mom). On Thursday 2/9, we had dinner at Maggiano's for Mom & Hattie's birthdays before going to see Hamilton at the Boston Opera House. Millie came for her 11th Birthday Sleepover (even though her birthday isn't until 2/20). She wanted to record some videos to share, so look for that on the Down Cellar Studio YouTube Channel soon.   Quote of the Week   If you have a good idea, use it so that you will not only accomplish something, but so that you can make room for new ones to flow into you. -Deng Ming-Dao   ------ Thank you for tuning in!   Contact Information: Check out the Down Cellar Studio Patreon! Alpacas can help teach us how to prioritise. Take sleeping for example - essential for a fast-growing cria and the rest of us. The three alpaca priorities are to: eat well, sleep well and explore like mad, so you can make sense of the world and know how to live in it safely. Priorities we can live by for sure. Slow Fashion & British Alpacas With Hanna Fiedler

Wool WeekFor 10 years, the Campaign For Wool has drawn attention to the wonderful wool offering available in the UK, and it’s incredible attributes. Today we are investigating a slightly less known wool available in the UK, Alpaca. Did you know that we have alpacas, right here in the UK? Along with Europe, the UK began farming alpacas for their super soft wool in the 90’s. So when we discovered that designer Hanna Fiedler was using alpaca wool for her collections, we had to find out more. Slow Fashion & Local SourcingHanna is a German born, now London based designer, taking the fashion industry by storm. Her precise and considered approach to fashion takes into account not just a sustainable work ethic, but also making less impact on our environment. However her approach to creating clothes is a lot slower than most brands and she prefers to do everything as locally as possible. Finding a balance between her love of fashion and her love for the environment, Hanna sources and manufactures in the UK as much as possible. When she discovered alpaca wool on her doorstep, (or a short 4 hour car journey from London) she jumped at the chance to find a way to incorporate this gorgeous fabric into her collection. Being farmed and spun in the UK means that the carbon footprint of the alpaca fibre is greatly reduced. We also know that alpaca have very little impact on the environment, making their wool an ideal sustainable fabric to use. With thanks to our amazing guest, Hanna FiedlerMentioned in the episodeBritish Alpaca companyPlease Support The Vendeur & Join Our CommunityInstagramFacebookPinterestSeries Credits Host Lucy KebbellTheme created by Joe Murgatroyd

I'm going back to my roots! Get ready to follow the making of my first "mini-collection" created for a new outfit I've designed.I've got a vision of a woman, comfortable and warm and dressed head to toe in natural fibres, deliciously earthy colours and a glorious combination of texture and gentle lace. She's scattering grain for her chickens and wandering through her vege patch, basket in hand thinking about what to pick for dinner this evening.Join me here on the blog, on my podcast and social media to discover which patterns I'll sew and what knitting patterns I'll design for my new outfit. There'll be a little jewellery too - she needs a new pair of earrings perhaps? My sweater is being designed with the perfect Oatmeal yarn: Heritage NZ Alpaca DK (50% Organic Merino/50% Alpaca) from Skeinz in the "Porcelain" colourway. The wrap will use Rowan Lima (84% Baby Alpaca/8% Merino/8% Nylon) in a glorious Aubergine shade Cusco #884.My slightly slouchy hat uses Road to China Light from the Fibre Company in the "Carnelian" colourway (65% Baby Alpaca, 10% Cashmere/10% Camel/15% Silk). It's nerve-wracking and exciting beginning something big and new! (Fantastic theme song is "Casting On" by Mr Roberelli)

Also, I snagged a few special but secret items for my Ewe and Me Swap partner, she knows who she is and will probably have received the package by the time we record the podcast but I have to keep a few things close to my chest ;)

Works In Progress I'm having great fun whipping up my Vivido cardigan by Stolen Stitches in New Lanark Chunky as art of the APlayfulDay podcast Feller Holiday KAL (Ravelry thread here). I've also been spinning on my SpinCityUK spindle, with some Picperfic Seduce (60% BFL, 20% Baby Alpaca, 20% Silk). The Christmas Fairies Did you get any crafty goodies for Christmas?
