Length: 1 hour 30 minutesSynopsis: Tonight (9/14/23), in our first Thursday Night Pirkei Avos shiur of the season, we tackled a long and difficult mishnah filled with mixed metaphors. TBH, I didn't have a clear understanding of the main idea when I started giving shiur. Thank God, with the help of the Meiri, we managed to successfully analyze each and every clause, and to come away with a grasp of an allegory which has the potential to change the way we relate to transgression and teshuvah. This was an appropriate mishnah to learn as we enter into the Aseres Ymei Teshuvah!-----מקורות:אבות ג:יחמאירי - אבות ג:יג,יחבראשית רבה סז:ד-----The Torah Content for the month of Elul has been sponsored anonymously in loving memory of Henya bas Tzirel - a mother who cared deeply about her children's engagement with Judaism. -----If you've gained from what you've learned here, please consider contributing to my Patreon at www.patreon.com/rabbischneeweiss. Length: 1 hour 2 minutesSynopsis: This morning (9/15/23), in our first Machshavah Lab series for women this season, we decided to review the Rambam's procedures for regular teshuvah and teshuvah on interpersonal sins. Even though many of us have learned this before, I certainly feel like we arrived at a greater level of clarity than in previous years. We asked and answered all of our questions on the basic teshuvah procedure, and then raised a bunch of questions on the interpersonal teshuvah process, which we will attempt to answer next time Rabbi Pesach Chait's 2008 shiur on Malchiyos, Zichronos, and Shofros -----The Torah Content for the month of Elul has been sponsored anonymously in loving memory of Henya bas Tzirel - a mother who cared deeply about her children's engagement with Judaism.-----If you've gained from what you've learned here, please consider contributing to my Patreon at www.patreon.com/rabbischneeweiss. Length: 1 hour 4 minutesSynopsis: This evening (9/13/23), in our Wednesday night Tehilim shiur, we continued our REDUX analysis of Tehilim 27 as explained by R' Elia di Nola. After reviewing our updated translation and the questions, we focused on the two main themes which R' Elia presents in his introduction and we attempted to unify the perek and justify the pivot. We managed to come up with a few good approaches. After that, we read through R' Elia's commentary again - this time in English - the goal of refining our theory and understanding as many of the particulars as possible. We weren't able to fully grasp the second half, but we mad a valiant effort. I'm not planning on revisiting this again next week, barring some MAJOR chidush. If you prefer a slower and more organic analysis, I recommend checking out the three-part shiur on this perek from September 2022 - especially Part 3.-----מקורות:תהלים פרק כזשיעורי ר' עובדיה ספורנורמב"ם - משנה תורה: ספר המדע, הלכות תשובה ה:א-ב-----The Torah Content for the month of Elul has been sponsored anonymously in loving memory of Henya bas Tzirel - a mother who cared deeply about her children's engagement with Judaism. -----If you've gained from what you've learned here, please consider contributing to my Patreon at www.patreon.com/rabbischneeweiss. Length: 16 minutes 9 secondsSynopsis: This morning I read a passage in Meditations which answered a question I've had about the formulation of vidui (confession) for many years. Length: 1 hour 10 minutesSynopsis: This evening (9/6/23), in our first Wednesday night Tehilim shiur of the 2023-2024 season, we decided to revisit the same perek we learned in Elul of last year - this time, through one of my new favorite commentators whose name nobody will have heard of: R' Elia di Nola, student of the Sforno. Because we learned the perek so recently, we deviated from our usual procedure. We relied on the translation and questions from last time, and we didn't attempt to figure out the main idea on our own, but instead, we jumped right into the commentary. We read and translated the whole thing and set up the main questions, which we'll attempt to answer next time.If you prefer a slower and more organic analysis, I recommend checking out the three-part shiur on this perek from September 2022.-----מקורות:תהלים פרק כזספורנושיעורי ר' עובדיה ספורנורש"י - גמרא סוכה דף נב עמוד א-ב:רמב"ם - משנה תורה: ספר המדע, הלכות תשובה ד:א; ו:הAristotle, Metaphysics 1:1רש"י - דברים ג:כג-----The Torah Content for the month of Elul has been sponsored anonymously in loving memory of Henya bas Tzirel - a mother who cared deeply about her children's engagement with Judaism. -----If you've gained from what you've learned here, please consider contributing to my Patreon at www.patreon.com/rabbischneeweiss. This episode is sponsored anonymously in honor of a refuah sheleima for Henya bas Bracha Devorah Leah. In this eye-opening episode, Mrs. Rivky Kaplan sheds light on the topic of kesamim (staining), an area of hilchos niddah she has found to be wrought with the most confusion. She discusses the interplay between d'oraisa and derabanan and how that forms the basis for some of the leniencies that are employed when dealing with kesamim. She explains how our implementation of these halachos aren't "cheating the system", but are a natural part of the way the system of derabanan was set up, to begin with. ***Please note that content discussed in this podcast series is intended for educational purposes only and should not replace speaking to a qualified rav regarding any practical halachic questions. If you would like to contact Rivky Kaplan regarding any follow up questions, please email her at rivkaplan@gmail.com.
Lessons from the Rebbe and Rebbetzin.
Rabbi Jacobson will discuss the following topics: Chassidus Applied to Yud KislevWhat is the significance of this day? Why was the Mitteler Rebbe arrested after the Alter Rebbe's spreading of Chassidus was vindicated? How is the geulah of the Rebbeim relevant to all Jews, not just Chabad? Why are there no portraits of the Mitteler Rebbe? What was the Mitteler Rebbe's kapelye? Why are we told the story about the Mitteler Rebbe not hearing the cry of the child? Who was Reb Aharon of Strashelye and why would he challenge the succession of the Mitteler Rebbe? Is there a difference between the avodah of the Alter Rebbe and the Mitteler Rebbe? What is the goal of a farbrengen? Yud Dalet KislevWhy did the Rebbe say that this day bound me to you and you to me? And that we should see fruits from our work? In honor of Henya bas Brocha Devorah Leah for a complete and speedy refuah shleimah Chassidus Applied to VayishlachWhat is the central message of the battle and reconciliation between Jacob and Esau? Why don't we find Jews training in self-defense? Did Jacob have a literal wrestling match with Esau's angel? What is the significance of Yakov's hip being dislocated; why that specific part of the body, to the point that we are not allowed to eat that part of an animal? Why can Jacob and Esau not live together in peace? HousekeepingWhy are some people trying to provoke you and hijack your wonderful program with their irreverent questions? Will there be another Chassidus Applied art contest? What books are your Tanya Applied classes based on? Is it appropriate to watch the world cup? Are there any lessons we can learn while watching it?

Author, power lifter, magna cum laude graduate, cultivator of a large garden, Henya Drescher reminisces with me about life in Israel before and after uncovering family secrets. Her response to the difficulties of life as a child was diving into literature that impressed upon her in ways that show up in her writing today. The heroines in her stories are strong, informed, motivated, well-rounded characters and her thrillers keep you guessing.
HENYA DRESCHER, an author from New York and Massachusetts, joined us to discuss here latest release, "Stolen Truth". From Her Amazon Page: "Henya Drescher is often found reading a book, and that book will most likely be a psychological thriller, which she writes. Writing novels was always her wish, and now, with STOLEN TRUTH, it has become a reality. When not absorbed in writing her third novel and spending too much time on the computer, Henya's passions include lifting weights, spinning, and cultivating her large garden." https://henyadrescher.com Enjoy!
