We talked about Jalen Hurts' performance yesterday against the Rams. Boomer thought he held onto the ball for too long in many instances. We also talked about Washington and how Dan Quinn will probably be the coach of the year and Jayden Daniels will be the rookie of the year. Boomer said this is what a great quarterback can do for a team. The Giants and Jets both need that. Boomer thinks it's easier for the Giants to be at 3, since one of the quarterbacks will ‘fall to them' and it won't be their decision to make. Boomer wonders if the Raiders move up to 2 to take Shedeur Sanders. What are the Giants selling to their fans if they don't get Sanders or Cam Ward? Boomer said this Commander's team reminds him of the 2007 Giants. Caitlin Clark was in the box in Kansas City with Taylor Swift. Jerry returns for an update, but first we we talked about Al & Jerry being on YouTube now and nobody watching it. Jerry plays a message from former Bills head coach, Marv Levy. He's 99 and sounds awesome. The Ravens came up short against the Bills as Mark Andrews dropped a game tying 2-point conversion. Lamar Jackson talked about his turnovers. Texans' Kris Boyd talked about shoving his coach, sort of. Saquon Barkley ran for 205 as the Eagles beat the Rams. Dan Quinn talked about Jayden Daniels being clutch and making great decisions. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about the 5 other QBs that started a championship game as a rookie. That got us into a discussion about Shaun King, who was one of those guys.

Hour 1 Championship weekend is set and most of the games were decided by teams turning the ball over. Boomer does not like Patrick Mahomes flopping and the refs calling penalties every time that guy gets hit. He gets treated differently than any other quarterback in the league. Gio doesn't think he'll be treated the same way because they are playing the Bills. Nobody wants to see the Texans move on, so Mahomes got all the calls. Gio thinks the Bills going to the Super Bowl is a bigger story so Mahomes won't get all the calls. With the Lions defensive performance Saturday night, has this hurt Aaron Glenn? Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with the sounds of the Bills beating the Ravens as Mark Andrews had a tough fourth quarter. On the 2-point attempt, Boomer thinks it's more on Lamar Jackson than Mark Andrews. Lamar Jackson talked about his turnovers that cost them the game. Josh Allen talked about moving on to KC. We heard one of the many great runs by Saquon Barkley as they beat the Rams. AJ Brown showed up to the game in a Honda Accord. Dan Campbell was very emotional after the loss to Washington. In the final segment of the hour, Matthew Stafford is going to take some time to decide what to do next. Gio said he immediately goes to the top of the list of available quarterbacks. Hour 2 If the Jets are going to hire Aaron Glenn, it may happen soon now that the Lions got bounced. Ben Johnson is also available now and if teams want these guys, they have to pounce. Mike Borganzi was hired by the Titans so he's not coming to the Jets. A caller wondered, if the Chiefs are getting treated by the refs, how is this not a rigged game? Boomer said there's no way to prove the bias, but it's the perception we have. A caller talked about the Chiefs taking a safety and screwing bettors, but B&G said that helped other bettors and the players don't care about the spreads in games. Another caller wondered why the Ravens went for 2. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the final call as the Bills beat the Ravens. The Baltimore announcers said ‘the Ravens beat the Ravens'. John Harbaugh talked about Mark Andrews and how he'll handle the adversity now. We heard from Buck and Aikman as the refs do everything they can to help Mahomes. We heard both Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley score on long runs. Mike Kafka is getting a second interview with the Saints. In the final segment of the hour, Tom Brady and his agent have both said he is going to fulfil his 10 year commitment to Fox. Gio said he is rarely annoyed by broadcasters during games. Hour 3 We talked about Jalen Hurts' performance yesterday against the Rams. Boomer thought he held onto the ball for too long in many instances. Bruce Smith is hurting. He's feeling the effects of those 299 total games played, those 214.5 total sacks (playoffs included). Many nights, he's in so much pain that he barely grabs a wink of sleep. So just imagine how all those quarterbacks feel. Those 76 different quarterbacks he sacked. The Buffalo Bills legend is truly one of the greatest football players to ever live. On this episode of “How the NFL Works” at Go Long, Smith explains exactly how he was able to dominate offenses. The Pro Football Hall of Famer was named to the NFL's All-Decade Team in both the 80s and 90s. Nobody sacked the quarterback more than him — not Reggie White, not Lawrence Taylor. There's a very good chance his regular-season record of 200 lasts for a long, long time. For perspective, Myles Garrett still has 98 sacks to go.And yet, Smith also knows his career could've crumbled if he didn't look in the mirror and demand changes from himself. From brutal training sessions on a StairMaster to his diet to — above all — meticulous film study, Smith became a monstrous force vs. the pass and the run on the Bills team that reached four straight Super Bowls. And he did it while playing in a 3-4 defense. Indeed, there's an art to the destruction. On this episode, Smith doesn't hold back on a variety of topics. * His life turnaround, from 310 pounds and out of shape to 6.3 percent body fat.* His relationship with Bills fans. It has evolved. During the ‘91 season, he received racist letters and wanted out of Buffalo. One conversation with Marv Levy changed his mind.* Stories from the trenches. What did Joe Montana and Dan Marino have to say after Smith flattened them?* What kind of owner was Ralph Wilson?* What was the missing piece on his Super Bowl teams?* Josh Allen. Smith marvels at the team's MVP-worthy quarterback today. He keeps in touch with Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane, too.* Yes, Smith believes he's got the case to make as the greatest defensive player ever.Video and audio are available here.Go Long is completely powered by you. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to talk several Buffalo Bills topics, including the maturation of Josh Allen that has transformed into quite possibly the best quarterback if not overall player in the entire NFL. Allen has always had the physical gifts that make people marvel and they've been on display for several years now, none so more than 2024. However, as fun as that is to see it's been the mental part of his game that has allowed him to elevate his play even further. The guys talk about how the excitement and chaos is still in his arsenal but it feels more controlled most the time. Josh is patient in poised both in the pocket and on the move--it never feels like he's truly rattled. That's resulted in mistakes not having a domino effect. Patrick suggests that it feels like when Tom Brady at some point of his career he'd seen everything the defense could throw at him and the game just felt easier from there. They also talk a linebacker situation between Matt Milano and Dorian Williams that could more interesting now that Milano has suffered a groin injury, though it doesn't appear to be serious. Still, Milano's looked kind of rusty, understandably so with all the time he missed. If he needs to miss anymore time, can Sean McDermott trust him over Williams in a playoff situation? Also, a respected content creator said that Sean McDermott is the best Bills head coach of all-time and Patrick was left shocked that someone would think it's not Marv Levy. Does Matt agree? That plus a look around the AFC and plenty more. You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattRichWarren and be sure to check out Buffalo Rumblings for your (really good) daily Bills content. Don Beebe was the first player to be a part of 6 Super Bowl teams and is famous for chasing down Leon Lett. Deion Sanders and Don Beebe both had the combine record of 4.25 in the 40. Don shares the behind the scene story when he was at the combine. Insane! So many miracle stories in Don's story. Out of football for 3 years, one of the colleges that had recruited him out of high school called and asked if he'd come back and play. His grandfather was not a good man, but Don's dad succeeded as a dad even though he had an awful father. He changed the Legacy of the Beebe name. After he retired from football, he created The House of Speed and has trained over 200,000 athletes. He coached high school and won state championships and he is now the head coach at Aurora University. He was able to sign a 10 year contract and demanded some specific things to be included in his contract.   -Why do bad things happen to good people? Fred Jackson is no stranger to overcoming adversity, especially when it comes to pursuing his dreams of playing in the NFL. Coming out of high school, no colleges offered Jackson a football scholarship. After an All-American career at Division III Coe College, all 32 teams passed on Jackson in the 2003 NFL Draft. Undeterred, Jackson remained determined, playing in and starring for teams in both the National Indoor Football League and NFL Europe before finally getting his chance with the Buffalo Bills in 2007. Jackson played for Buffalo for eight seasons, ranking third all-time in rushing yards, fifth in rushing TDs and sixth in receptions. Jackson discusses his unusual path to the NFL, his favorite memories from playing in Buffalo, his special relationship with Hall of Fame coach Marv Levy, why Bills fans are the best, and why he's passionate about giving back to his community. Now that the Buffalo Bills season has come to a conclusion at the hands of the Cincinnati Bengals, the expected surge of emotions are on the surface within Bills Mafia. Hosts Jamie D'Amico and big Chris Newton spend some time discussing what went wrong in the game, as well as what held them back in general. But D'Amico has a message for fans: it's not as bad as it seems right now. The Bills went 14-4 on the year and had a top rated offense and defense. There are things that need to change, but D'Amico points out that during the Super Bowl runs of the 1990s after each loss fans were ready to fire Hall of Fame coach Marv Levy and trade star players and fellow Hall of Famers Jim Kelly, Bruce Smith and others. In other words, there's a lot that went right in the 2022 season, but there is still analysis on what needs to improve. Other topics covered include the early locker room exit by star wideout Stefon Diggs--which Big Newt loved, Damar Hamlin, as well as pending Bills free agents. Bruce Smith is known and respected as the NFL's all-time career leader in quarterback sacks, with 11 Pro-Bowl appearances and 4 consecutive Super Bowls with the Buffalo Bills under his belt. In this episode, Marcellus Wiley dives deep into who Bruce Smith, the man, is. As a son, brother, father, husband, friend, and mentor, there's more to him than just a football player.  They talk about his parents' sacrifices, the very moment in college that changed his entire football career and romantic trajectory. Bruce Smith has always stood up for what he believes, from his fight against targeted hate during his first year in the NFL to now standing as an activist and a voice for the people of that same community of Buffalo, New York. There's also lots of fun had in this episode as Marcellus, who was tagged “The New Bruce Smith” asks Bruce how he felt about that, and we play a round of “Finish The Sentence” with the NFL legend.  Connect with Bruce Smith on Instagram. How is Jon Torine passing on the wisdom of his legendary coaching mentors?Coaching, much like parenting, has a deep influence on young people. Many of us learn how to coach from those who coached us. Unfortunately, not everyone has ideal coaching role models. Coaching lessons that are passed down generationally can have significant influence - positive or negative - on young athletes. It is critical to educate coaches on effective practices in order to curb the troubling youth sport dropout rate.My guest, Jon Torine, is a former NFL strength and conditioning coach and currently an Area Developer for i9 Sports. In Episode 36, Jon discusses how he has adopted the lessons from legendary coaches, such as Marv Levy and Tony Dungy. Jon shares how he is using those lessons in his current role as a franchise operator at i9 Sports, whose mission is helping kids succeed in life through sports. So, what was your biggest takeaway from my conversation with Jon Torine? For me, it's that it's not okay to stay quiet as it relates to sharing best practices for coaching youth sports. The best coaches coach people, not games. About 70 percent of young people drop out of youth sports by the age of 13 presumably because they are not having fun. Coaches play a big role in that equation. Youth sport coaching MUST be better in order to quell this troubling trend. My suggestion to youth sports parents is think about the life lessons you would like your children to learn when helping them choose what teams to play on. Winning and competing is important to young athletes, but should it be the MOST important factor in choosing a team?I want to thank Jon for his kind generosity and the wisdom he shared with The Freshman Foundation Community. To learn more about the nature of the coach-athlete relationship, visit: https://michaelvhuber.com/what-can-a-tv-character-teach-us-about-the-coach-athlete-relationship/To learn more about how mental performance coaching can help your mind work FOR you rather than AGAINST you, visit https://michaelvhuber.com.Thank you for listening. We'll see you back in two weeks ready to get better!
