2024 was a year of maintenance and solidifying the foundation. While the show didn't 5x in year over year growth, as it did from 2022 to 2023, the arrow has still been pointing up with some big artists joining the show, increased viewership and positive feedback. In particular, the RMPP patron group has grown to the largest its ever been, which has honestly been the biggest one of my most proudest achievements of my life. The community has progressed to a point where it's become a staple of my life, and hopefully the patrons of this show feel the same way. 2024 was proof that this show is here to stay, and will be a fixture in indie rap media for years to come. To the RMPP patrons, as well as the rest of you listeners who support the show with your time and attention... thank you for entrusting me with this privilege to rap music plug podcast for you. Last year marked the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, a genre that has always had its fair share of beef. From the iconic clashes between Jay-Z and Nas to the explosive confrontations involving Ice Cube and NWA, rap beefs have been an integral part of hip-hop culture. And right now, we're right in the middle of one of the most significant beefs in recent memory. The feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar has reached a boiling point! With a repertoire of songs that could fill their own VERZUZ, each track is a testament to why both artists believe they reign supreme. Your favorite Casanegros, Josh and Bryan, have delved deep into the drama. From the clever wordplay to the heated exchanges and even the blatant disrespect - it's a lyrical and cultural moment like no other! Is this beef the end of the Champagne Papi era? Did K Dot strike gold? Find out what your favorite Casanegros have to say about it all. Um... sure.
Episode 235 (Music). The 90s rap era was the best, in my opinion. It feature the best MCs and the best beats. Each rapper was authentic, and nobody really sounded like each other. If you think there's a better rap era, let me know, but I doubt it will surpass the 90s. Check Out Our New Website https://iamlennyreed.com
Video animation by: Big Flowers Intro/Outro beat by: BLOODBLIXING The Plug (0:21) For me, 2023 was the year of “oh wow, thank you”. This was a refrain I found myself more or less saying, time and time again. It signified a genuine gratitude for whatever nice thing some other person said to me, virtually, or IRL… but also signified that I was genuinely taken aback by the love, and that it has been an odd thing to adjust to. It's one thing to receive praise for something you're successful at. It's another thing entirely to receive praise for something you're successful at that also actually means a lot to you. This has been my experience with this podcast this year. Thank you for listening… words cannot describe my gratitude. In the spirit of gratitude, I will dive into detail into defined my 2023… through the lens of my favourite music, and hand out some awards along the way. Welcome to the 4th Annual RMPP Awards!!! Video animation by: Big Flowers Intro/Outro beat by: BLOODBLIXING Why I love talking about music (0:21) One of the greatest things about art is that it's contextual… it's temporal. Meaning that a particular album for example, could not only make different people feel different things, but could even make the same person feel different things, once the context surrounding their experience with the album changes. This dynamic is why I love talking about music, and why I hope you the listener choose to tune in to this show almost every Wednesday of the year, The amount of perspectives and feelings one can have with a piece of music is endless. It's this concept of subjectivity and context-dependence that can make anyone's relationship with any piece of music uniquely their own, and worthy of exploring. Uncovering the why behind not only the artist's creative decisions, but the listener's response to said piece of music as well, is why I find this space of music commentary so fascinating. Therefore, in celebration of music and the discussion of beautiful art… I welcome you to the 3rd Annual RMPPs. The 3rd Annual RMPP Awards Intro (4:20). In this episode, Joshua and Zachary discuss the best hip hop music and artists of 2022. At the same time, they were throwing in a twist with the best producer tags of the year. “A producer tag (sometimes simply called a tag) is the element of a song, typically at the beginning of it, inserted there by the song's producer – a short sound meant to familiarize the listener with who is responsible for the production of the song” -Wikipedia lolTo finish the episode, Zachary and Joshua discuss how the black chain will affect music but, overall, will make it better for music creators.
