The Midnight Feast by Lucy Foley: a bunch of long time friends get together in Dorset to celebrate the imminent opening of a new resort, a heritage home which has been completely refurbished with no expense spared. It's all very nice – champagne, great food, all dressed for the occasion – but the locals aren't at all happy about this new development in their area and things take a sinister turn very quickly. In recent years Lucy Foley has made a name for herself writing “locked room” mysteries – where a lot happens in a small space and they're good fun. Camino Ghosts by John Grisham: the third book in his Camino Island series where much of the action is set around the local bookseller – who in this case comes across a story which he recommends to a local author who starts investigating. An uninhabited island called Dark Isle, off the coast between Florida and Georgia has been identified by some property developers as the next great place to make a quick buck and they have big plans for it. Dark Isle was for many years home to a group of runaway slaves and an elderly woman who lived there until she was 15 years old and was the last inhabitant is claiming ownership to it and getting in the way of their plans. Camino Island by John Grisham A gang of thieves stage a daring heist from a secure vault deep below Princeton University's Firestone Library. Their loot is priceless, but Princeton has insured it for twenty-five million dollars. Bruce Cable owns a popular bookstore in the sleepy resort town of Santa Rosa on Camino Island in Florida. He makes his real money, though, as a prominent dealer in rare books. Very few people know that he occasionally dabbles in the black market of stolen books and manuscripts. Mercer Mann is a young novelist with a severe case of writer's block who has recently been laid off from her teaching position. She is approached by an elegant, mysterious woman working for an even more mysterious company. A generous offer of money convinces Mercer to go undercover and infiltrate Bruce Cable's circle of literary friends, ideally getting close enough to him to learn his secrets. But eventually Mercer learns far too much, and there's trouble in paradise as only John Grisham can deliver it. Endgame 1944: How Stalin Won the War by Jonathan Dimbleby June 1944: In Operation Bagration, more than two million Red Army soldiers, facing 500,000 German soldiers, finally avenged their defeat in Operation Barbarossa in 1941. The same month saw the Allies triumph on the beaches of Normandy, but, despite the myths that remain, it was the events on the Eastern Front that sealed Hitler's fate and destroyed Nazism. In his new book, bestselling historian Jonathan Dimbleby describes and analyses this momentous year, covering the military, political and diplomatic story in his evocative style. Drawing on previously untranslated German, Russian and Polish sources, we see how sophisticated new forms of deception and ruthless Partisan warfare shifted the Soviets' fortunes, how their triumphs effectively gave Stalin authority to occupy Eastern Europe and how it was the events of 1944 that enabled Stalin to dictate the terms of the post-war settlement, laying the foundations for the Cold War . . . So, way back at the end of April, I decided I wanted to start filming regular mystery and thriller novel book hauls on my YouTube Channel and Podcast every month. My aim was to share them here on this blog because I'm a bit of a bibliophile and a game nerd, as you can see by the wall of bookshelves behind me in the video. A Classic Over-Thinker As you can see from the content on this blog, I failed to follow through with my plans to film a monthly thriller novel book haul. Well, I did the book purchasing and put them in piles according to purchase dates, then I kept putting it off because I'm a classic over-thinker. Instead of buying books and then filming myself talking about why I purchased said books, I over-thought the book haul process. I convinced myself that I needed to talk about why I purchased the book and accurately discuss the synopsis and all of those things. In this particular book haul, I've included books in the mystery, thriller, suspense, and crime genres because I write in and most of the books I read are in these genres. But occasionally, I'll read fantasy or historical fiction. In saying that, many of the books I read, regardless of genre, have elements of crime, thriller, and suspense because it's what I love to read. I like something that's fast-paced, but I've started purchasing fantasy novels, but that's for a different haul. In this haul, I'm going to keep it strictly to thrillers because I'm a bit of a mystery novel nerd. About This Book Haul The books that I'm about to show you I purchased during the months of May through to August. At the time of this filming, in September, I hadn't purchased any thriller-related books. My September book purchases had been fantasy, but I'll do a separate haul in the middle of the month and be more on top of my book haul game. Spoiler alert, since it's been a while since the filming of the video and the creation of the blog post, I did manage to buy a couple of thriller novels. What can I say? I couldn't resist. According to a recent article in Reuters, “The ISM said its index of national factory activity inched up to 59.9 last month from a reading of 59.5 in July. A reading above 50 indicates expansion in manufacturing, which accounts for 11.9% of the U.S. economy.” Manufacturing is on the rise, yet every industry is struggling with an impaired supply chain. Will things get better anytime soon? How can manufacturing businesses manage shortages in the meantime? We share some thoughts in this episode of Making Chips! Segments [0:40] Check out ProShop ERP for manufacturing software! [4:15] A discussion about supply chain issues [6:57] What do we like right now? [29:01] Tips to mitigate the pain of supply chain disruptions The Great Supply Chain Disruption Manufacturing is becoming increasingly busy but supply chain woes linger. It's the #1 thing on our minds right now. Most machine shops are at or near capacity. But we're having trouble getting aluminum, brass, steel, and finished goods. Even getting containers to ship the goods is a struggle. This phenomenon is being dubbed “The Great Supply Chain Disruption.” Whenever you're making a systemic change, it's going to cause disruption. No matter how much planning you put into something, disruption happens. This should have been expected. The disruption that comes with reshoring Reshoring is more relevant than ever. And this isn't a new topic to our show. What is driving the reshoring initiative? COVID. Everything that was coming from overseas halted or decreased. Ships weren't coming through the Panama Canal. Ships weren't being unloaded because the workforce was at home. When China started rethinking its business environment and they started to incorporate more free-market tendencies, they wanted to become an export economy. They didn't have the technology to export high-end goods so they started on the low end. But now they're catching up. Now, China is focused on export as well as making branded goods for their economy. People spent their time in quarantine buying low-cost things that are sourced from Amazon—from exercise equipment to kitchen mixers. They're buying computers, TVs, headphones, etc. Many things that are sourced from China. Will the supply chain get better anytime soon? Lead time and prices are going to increase. Everyone is dealing with it right now. We can't be the link that absorbs all the cost increases. The federal government knew that the influx of money into the economy plus the supply chain issues were going to lead to increased prices. This is going to lead to inflation. Inflation does slow growth. But everyone is saying that interest rates will be holding steady ingo 2022. We think the supply chain issues will continue into 2022 but it's currently a game of wait and see. So what can manufacturers do in the meantime to mitigate the problems that come with supply chain issues? We share a few tips in this episode you don't want to miss. Check it out! Today we’re talking about Ken’s surprising appearance as a villain in John Grisham’s rare books heist thriller, Camino Island. Well, not Ken exactly, but someone very much like him. Oscar Stein is the fictional proprietor of the three story Old Boston Bookshop on West Street in downtown Boston, a shop that was founded by his father, Loyd Stein. Sound familiar? The only problem is that Oscar Stein is also a thief, his bookshop is failing, he’s weary of the book trade, and would rather pop pills in his cluttered office than run the shop. After reading Camino Island, Ken, baffled and understandably concerned about the possible damage it could cause to his reputation, does some investigating of his own, ultimately leading to a phone call from Grisham himself.

John Grisham is back with a new book titled Camino Winds, which has more of a mystery than thriller feel, straying away from Grisham's more typical books. As well as that Sarah Vaughan has come out with Little Disasters, all about motherhood and friendship. Camino Winds by John Grisham, second in the series which began with Camino Winds – more mystery than thrillers, and a departure from the legal thrillers he's best known for. Set on Camino Island, the local bookseller is looking forward to welcoming a big name author back to the island, when Hurricane Leo bears down on them and destroys almost everything. A local author is found dead in the aftermath but then it becomes apparent that it wasn't the storm which killed him…..Little Disasters by Sarah Vaughan. Jess is a young mother who seems to have it all, including a group of great friends who met at ante natal classes. When she takes her baby to the emergency department and is unable to explain the cause of the child's injuries, suspicion falls on her – made more difficult as the paediatrician who sees them there is one of that group of friends. It's a very good story about motherhood, friendship, and the lengths we'll go to to protect the ones we love. The author wrote a terrific book a couple of years ago which I loved called Anatomy of a Scandal.

The next book in the no 1 Sunday Times bestselling Camino Island series! When Hurricane Leo threatens Florida's Camino Island, the Governer is quick to issue an evacuation order. Most residents flee but a small group of diehards decide to ride it out. Amongst them is Bruce Cable, proprietor of Bay Books in downtown Santa Rosa. The hurricane is devastating: homes and condos are levelled, hotels and storefronts ruined, streets flooded, and a dozen people are killed. One of the victims is Nelson Kerr, a friend of Bruce's who wrote timely political thrillers. But evidence suggests that the storm wasn't the cause of Nelson's death - he had received several mysterious blows to the head. Who would want Nelson dead? The local police are overwhelmed with the aftermath of the storm and in no condition to handle the case. Bruce begins to wonder if the shady characters in Nelson's novels were more fact than fiction. And somewhere in Nelson's computer is the manuscript of his new novel - could the key to the case be right there in black and white? Bruce starts to look into it and what he finds between the lines is more shocking than any of Nelson's plot twists - and far more dangerous.

Ken receives a popular new novel as a birthday gift. Much to his dismay he finds an evil twin lurking in its pages. The book contains a character who is nearly identical to him, but with some sinister variations. Ken is an honest, well respected bookseller and his shop is thriving; his fictional doppelgänger is the criminally unethical proprietor of a failing book shop on the very same Boston street. An edge-of-your-seat legal thriller ensues as Ken tries to solve the mystery of why best-selling author John Grisham, a total stranger, would want to hurt his feelings like this.

John Grisham is the author of 38 books, including his latest novel, Camino Island. “A Time to Kill didn’t sell. It just didn’t sell. There was never any talk of going back for a second printing.
