Robert sits down with Ed Helms to discuss one of our worst monsters: David Berg, founder of the Children of God cult.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In this episode, Aaron discusses his book 'The Sovereign Child' and his unique approach to parenting, which is influenced by libertarian philosophy and the ideas of David Deutsch. Stupple emphasizes the importance of understanding children's reasons for their behavior rather than imposing authoritarian discipline. He advocates for a parenting style that maximizes freedom and autonomy while still providing guidance and support. The conversation also explores the importance of allowing children to make their own choices, particularly regarding food and screen time. He emphasizes the need for parents to create an engaging environment that fosters autonomy while also ensuring safety. The discussion further covers the balance between providing structure and allowing freedom, the misconceptions surrounding screen time, and the critical role of trust in parent-child relationships.Takeaways
Austin Federa has a non-traditional path into the blockchain world. In college, he studied political & environmental science, and economics. Interestingly enough, those studies map a lot to the blockchain first principles. He was seriously looking to do his PhD, but fell out of love with that space, and joined NPR as a journalist for a while. Then, of course, he got bit by the startup bug. Outside of tech, he enjoys living in Brooklyn, photography, and engaging in some form of learning at all times. He enjoys reading, mention the Children of Time series, as though it was fiction, it had a lot of interwoven psychology and communal themes.Austin acknowledges that though we all love the internet, it's actually not very good... for high performant systems. And though companies are trying to build dedicated networks in the world, there hasn't been one created for blockchain - IE, not centralized around single party. This is the creation story of DoubleZero.SponsorsPaddle.comSema SoftwarePropelAuthPostmanMeilisearchLinkshttps://doublezero.xyz/https://www.linkedin.com/in/austin-federa/Our Sponsors:* Check out Kinsta: https://kinsta.com* Check out Vanta: https://vanta.com/CODESTORYSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/code-story/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
Some topics in pediatrics are flashy — like seizures, mystery rashes and fevers. While those often make headlines, others, like pediatric nephrology, are a routine but critical part of daily practice. Understanding these bread-and-butter issues is essential to diagnosing so many patients. Protein in the urine, blood pressure creeping up or a UTI that is more than ‘just a UTI' are often signs that something may be wrong with the kidneys. In this episode, we examine those practical essentials and learn how PCPs can feel confident in managing these diagnoses. This episode was recorded on the exhibit floor of the 2025 Pediatric Academic Societies Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii. Joining us for this episode are Bradley Warady, MD, and Nathan Bines, MD, both from Children's Mercy Kansas City and the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. Dr. Warady is the Director of the Division of Nephrology, a Professor of Pediatrics and the McLaughlin Family Endowed Chair in Nephrology. Dr. Beins is the Associate Program Director for the Pediatric Nephrology Fellowship Training Program, as well as a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics. Some highlights from this episode include: Understanding the core kidney issues in general pediatrics How to identify these conditions early The difference between benign findings and red flags Tools for friendly language about topics that might be sensitive or embarrassing for a child For more information on Children's Colorado, visit: childrenscolorado.org.

Dr. Mary Barbera discusses how doctor visits can be overwhelming for children with autism, but systematic desensitization can make a big difference. This simple approach uses gradual exposure and positive reinforcement to reduce fear and build cooperation—even for kids with past medical trauma. Start with pretend play, visual schedules, and breaking visits into small steps. For emergencies, prep a go-bag and summary sheet in advance. With the right tools and a little planning, you can reduce meltdowns and make medical visits more manageable.

FORBIX — THE HAIRDRESSER WITH AN ARTIST'S TOUCHIn the heart of the town of Tagliaspunta, nestled among shops of all kinds, there's a hairdresser named Forbix, for women, men, teenagers, and children — though not too little. Forbix is no ordinary hairdresser: he has the magical touch of an artist. His scissors are made of silver and, as they cut, they whisper stories. His ivory comb makes hair shine, and his hairdryer doesn't blow air — it blows dreams. At his cutting station, he becomes a magician: the scissors, guided by his hand, flutter through the hair and, touch after touch — voilà! — the result is perfect. One day, the tree standing in front of his shop said to Forbix:“You are an artist, and I'm tired of my tangled mop of leaves. I'd love a little makeover,” it sighed, “and I'd make a great advertisement for you.”The hairdresser didn't need to be asked twice: he stepped outside with his enchanted scissors.Circling the tree with the flair of a genius, after a few confident snips, he trimmed the branches and turned the dry leaves into silver confetti that the wind carried away. The tree looked more radiant and alive than it had ever been, with fresh green leaves adorning it like braided ringlets. The next morning, two children — Sara and David — playful as ever, were hopping along the sidewalk when they saw the tree, so elegant and in a good mood, its leaves joyfully whistling.Sara had curls like little summer clouds, and David's hair stuck up like a tiny hedgehog. As they came closer, they asked in unison:“Who's the artist who did all this?”The tree replied: “The hairdresser, Forbix.”“We'd love to go too! Our hair is all messy and really needs a good fix. Our moms have been saying so for quite a while now.”“Well then, you'd better listen to them. Go on, go in,” the tree encouraged them with a whisper.David went in first, tripping over the marble step, followed by Sara who smiled and waved.Forbix, ever observant, welcomed them in and, running his hands through their hair one at a time, slowly began to cut with his magical scissors. The comb gently caressed their hair, which began to shine, and with the blow-dryer, dreams swirled through the air along with whispered stories.Looking at themselves in the mirror, their faces lit up with big smiles, while Forbix, pleased in turn, gave them a wink.Sara and David happily thanked him with a bow and a wave.Out on the sidewalk, they danced in a joyful circle around the tree, on whose branches little songbirds had perched — giving a cheerful concert, along with the leaves and the children. The true magic of Forbix lies not only in the tools of his trade, which he uses with an artist's passion, but also in his ability to listen — and bring a smile.-- Written by Lucia & Marco Ciappelli

[Original airdate: 10/5/23] Mary Danielsen talks to author, speaker and Islam expert Usama Dakdok about the lies in America's textbooks. The war on our kids isn't just related to gender and alternative lifestyles; we must remember that there is deep spiritual deception in the schools. If the bible is not truthful about Israel, the Land, the Book and her enemies then it's not true about anything. He shows us that Islam is rotting us from the inside and the results may just be that our children may never open the Book ever again once they are grown. A timely expose of how our enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy. Usama is the author of "The Generous Qu'ran", the only truly accurate English translation of the Koran available. Other translations sanitize and sugarcoat the harsher tenets of this political movement disguised as a religion. With Americans having fought wars in Islamic states for decades now, it is valuable to understand what they believe.

Are you living as a slave or as a child of God? You are not an employee in God's kingdom. You are not hired help trying to keep your spot. You are His child. This message from Pastor Juan Sanchez is a bold and beautiful reminder that the law was never meant to be a finish line — it was always a signpost pointing us to Jesus. Straight from Galatians, we are reminded that we don't earn our way in, we are invited in. Not because we got it all right, but because Jesus already did. If you've been carrying pressure, performance, or the weight of wondering if you belong, this sermon will breathe life into your soul. Pastor Juan shares personal stories, spiritual truth, and the kind of clarity that sets hearts free. God is not looking for perfect servants. He is calling His sons and daughters home. The conscience of a nation awakened for a moment when the bodies of 800 dead babies were discovered in a septic tank at a nun-run operation in Ireland. But what about the other 100,000,000 babies flushed into septic tanks around the world last year? But then, the UK parliament just voted to allow late term abortions, while everybody was up in arms over 800 dead babies buried in the septic tank. Hypocrisy runs thick. We also find a biblical basis for the US Supreme Court decision on a Tennessee law that forbids parent from mutilating (ie. transgendering) their children for life. Parental rights only go so far. The World View in 5 Minutes with Adam McManus (America bombed Iran's nuclear facilities, U.K. House passes assisted suicide, Hockey player gives glory to God after winning Stanley Cup) 2. Send us a textFrom a family vacation that turned tragic to the creation of Pakistan's first specialized children's heart hospital, Ana Tanveer Abdullah's journey illustrates how profound loss can spark transformative change. When Ana's athletic, academically gifted brother Daniel collapsed unexpectedly at age 15, no one suspected a heart condition. Despite receiving a pacemaker after being diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, Danial passed away at 16 while awaiting a heart transplant in India. This devastating loss became the catalyst for an extraordinary mission.Together with her father and Farhan Ahmad (who also lost a child to congenital heart disease), Ana founded the Pakistan Children's Heart Foundation with an ambitious vision: to build the country's first specialized cardiac hospital for children. Through innovative fundraising campaigns inspired by Danial's athletic spirit and tireless advocacy, they've now achieved what once seemed impossible. The Children's Heart Hospital opens in Lahore this April, eliminating the need for Pakistani families to seek expensive treatment abroad. Beyond the physical facility, their "Project by Danial" trains young cardiologists and surgeons specifically in pediatric cardiac care, ensuring sustainable healthcare improvements throughout the country.Ana's story reminds us of the remarkable resilience of the human spirit. The Supreme Court's decision to affirm Tennessee's ban on so called "Gender Affirming Care" was a victory for people like activist/attorney Lois McLatchie Miller. On June 6, police in Brussels, Belgium arrested her and child protection advocate Chris Elston (aka "Billboard Chris") for peacefully displaying signs promoting the protection of children against transgender medical treatments. Their signs read “Children are never born in the wrong body” and “Children cannot consent to puberty blockers.” The pair went to the EU capital to engage members of the European Parliament about the dangers of puberty blockers for children. On this episode of Lighthouse Faith podcast, Miller, an attorney for Alliance Defending Freedom International, reacts to the Justices' decision, and also talks about her experiences being arrested for standing up for her deeply held beliefs that "children are made in the image of God, and they are made as beings that should be loved and cherished." Miller shares how instead of addressing the mob threatening them, the police arrested the two holding signs. She says it's a blatant example of how deep Western culture has aligned itself with the transgender movement and pushes back aggressively against any who challenge its orthodoxy.
