Welcome to AI Lawyer Talking Tech. Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping the legal field, bringing both remarkable efficiency gains and significant new challenges. From courtrooms where judges grapple with fair use arguments for AI training data, to law firms leveraging AI for document review and cost prediction, the technology's impact is undeniable. Yet, this integration presents critical questions about data security and compliance, ethical billing practices when efficiency improves, and even the potential for cognitive shifts among legal professionals relying heavily on these tools. We're also seeing regulators confront AI-generated content like deepfakes and courts analyze the patent eligibility of machine learning inventions. Join us as we explore these developments, examining how AI is transforming legal operations, legal marketing, and even potentially bridging the justice gap, all while the legal landscape adapts to this powerful, rapidly evolving technology.Federal Judge Weighs In On Meta's AI Copyright Fair Use Argument05 May 2025Digital Music NewsThe Future of Scientific Innovation04 May 2025The Regulatory ReviewA Cross-Jurisdictional Look at Recent Legislative Reforms in the UK and the EU03 May 2025Lawdit Commercial SolicitorsBest practices: Securing law firm data in the era of AI03 May 2025IManage.comLaw Squared launches Cubed platform for in-house legal teams02 May 2025IT Brief UKOpening The Doors To Change: What To Expect At CLOC Global Institute 202502 May 2025Above The Law#LMA25: Harnessing AI For Cross-Selling: Don't Miss An Opportunity For Growth02 May 2025JD SupraAI hallucinations cause bad trip for lawyers02 May 2025LexologyAI and Cognitive Laziness for Lawyers02 May 2025Patently-OMore Watts Less Carbon; The Challenges of Innovating To Accommodate the Energy Demands of Data Centre Projects Without Compromising Net Zero02 May 2025JD SupraShould using AI mean lower fees? In this evidence-grounded episode, we kick off with Jill Barshay's March 2025 Hechinger Report deep-dive—“Proof Points: Reading Comprehension in the Classroom” (read it here)—which shows teachers spend under 25 percent of their reading block on genuine comprehension work and almost zero time on text-based talk.Doug Petersen and Trina Spencer—classroom teachers turned education scientists and founders of Language Dynamics Group—use those “proof points” as a launchpad to share why they walked away from one-size-fits-none interventions and built something better:❤️ Their evidence-first origin: witnessing multilingual and economically diverse learners get lost in decoding drills led them to found tools (CUBED, PEARL, DYMOND, Story Champs®) rooted in solid research evidence—and designed to be Implementation Ready, not extra paperwork.

In this episode of The Nonprofit Exchange, I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Greg Stewart, a multifaceted leader with a rich background in ministry, counseling, and organizational leadership. We delved into the concept of I3Q, which stands for Information, Interpretation, and Intensity, and how it relates to our inner strength and the management of negative emotions. Dr. Stewart shared his journey from being called into ministry to becoming a licensed counselor and executive coach. He emphasized the importance of understanding our negative emotions and how they can serve as a source of energy for personal growth and transformation. His new book, "Unlocking the Inner Strength Behind Your Negative Emotions," is a culmination of his experiences and insights over the past decade, particularly following a personal crisis that led him to explore his own emotional landscape. We discussed the critical need for leaders, especially in the nonprofit sector, to model emotional intelligence and transformational leadership. Dr. Stewart highlighted the balance between grace and truth in leadership, stressing that effective communication requires both empathy and accountability. He provided practical advice on how to navigate difficult conversations and the importance of self-reflection in understanding our emotional responses. As we wrapped up, Dr. Stewart encouraged listeners to ask themselves, "What is being exposed in me?" when faced with negative emotions. This introspective approach can lead to healing, emotional resilience, and a deeper understanding of oneself. Overall, this episode is a valuable resource for nonprofit leaders and anyone looking to enhance their emotional intelligence and leadership skills. Dr. Stewart's insights remind us that our emotional challenges can be transformed into opportunities for growth and connection. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Audio from the 2023 Charleston Conference from the session titled: Rubric Cubed: A New Method in Collections Decions-Making presented by Erin Gallagher, Chair, Acquisitions & Collections Services, University of Florida; Courtney Pyche, Public Health Liaison Librarian, University of Florida Health Science Center Library; Ariel Pomputius, Health Sciences Liaison Librarian, University of Florida Libraries; and Tara Cataldo, STEM Collections and Research Metrics Librarian, University of Florida Libraries. Library professionals have long made use of evaluative tools for decision-making around collection development. Traditional tools are adequate for many collection development scenarios, but the increasing variety of acquisitions models, combined with entrenched budgetary challenges, present the need for new methods and inventive thinking. Enter the rubric! If you thought rubrics were stuffy or excessive, or only used to grade college essays, it's time to take another look. Rubrics are not only instruments of collection analysis, but informative objects that help guide their own values and philosophies in their collection's practices. These four librarians from the George A. Smathers Libraries at the University of Florida have been exploring the use of rubrics for collection development. They'll share two rubrics currently in use. One designed for open access investments and another for monograph purchasing decisions. They'll also share stories about the birth of the rubrics and impart practical, ground-floor applications of the rubrics through real-world examples, giving ideas for evaluating collections decisions in a unique and collaborative way, helping Publishers and vendors to strengthen their understanding of what these library partners value and prioritize. Whenever we pass around a condolences card at work most people will write "Sorry for your loss." I prefer "Let the good memories get you through this tough time." I remember feeling exhausted after my mom's time on hospice. I hope you are getting some time to relax and reflect especially with the traveling you were having to do to support your family. On the subject of heart, I used one of my pig hearts in chili last year. I called it "Heartburn" the meat never got soft it was firm even after simmering overnight. Most of the kidneys I eat are from smaller animals which turn out awesome when cooked in a roasting pan. Pig kidneys deep fried while you are rendering lard is pretty good. Cubed up and lightly floured is good too. Take care and keep up the great shows. A gallon of untainted regular gasoline remains at $3.599. Frugality Tip A thank you to Margo Operation Independence THE POUR is Thursday Main topic of the Show: Maintaining Your Well Through Winter Someone asked how important a whole house generator is now that they live in the country on a well and power goes out. Define your goal - is it having water or having running water because storage is practically free Simple and cheap options Bottles - 2 gall per person per day for at least a week, include livestock The bathtub and toilet Is there a pool, creek or pond outside and can you carry baskets Repurposed rain water collection Generator thoughts Why power the whole house when you can just power the pump for much less money and effort? Land level stored water plus a 12v pump back feeding your system can run off a battery and get you through on conservation mode Have you done a power audit of your home to get a long term plan? Winter Well Maintenance Considerations Dripping water and keeping pipes flowing versus draining the whole house. Yes. I said draining the whole house. Related drain valves. What keeps pipes and other essential things from freezing at your well head and what do you do if power goes out to keep things from freezing, then breaking What about sediment? Documentation of the components, learning what they do for troubleshooting problems, learn what a check valve i and does and what happens when they break what they do Water testing and treatment Integrating an automatic shut off to avoid burning up the pump Some thoughts on naturally occurring fluoride The local plumbing supply shop is a hidden gem All in all what you do in year one depends on budget and priorities - but I find the problem isn't usually that power went out and I have no water. It is more that something happens in the system and when I did not understand the system, it could take days to remedy even with the help of a professional because a plumber/ electrician mix cant always drop everything and come to a place way out in the country. And all plumbers are not created equal. So time to man up and learn about well systems this year while you also cover things you know can go wrong. Welcome to country living! Make it a great week!
