DOUBTING THOMAS RIKER. Kira and the crew of DS9 fall under the charms of a Riker, just not the one they think! Transporter Twin Thomas Riker has his eyes set on the USS Defiant and uses sexcraft to get what he wants. In order to stop him, Sisko must reenact Fail Safe -- or is it the TNG episode "The Wounded"? -- with Gul Dukat on Cardassia. Our theme this month is DS9's Season Three Leap Forward, looking at key episodes that showed Star Trek's middle child taking off and finding its own voice. Joining Bryan to kick things off is actor-producer-comedian Curtis Fortier, star and producer of web series 12 Sided Die, featuring Trek alumni such as Tim Russ and Andrew Robinson. The grades begin at (21:30).

Episode Notes S3E5: Second Skin S3E6: The Abandoned Second Skin: Sisko bullies Garak. Cardassians seem to have very good cosmetic surgery for a lizard species. The Cardassian Sleeper Agent program is weird. Cardassians use unlabeled data crystals. Cardassia has much more depth to it than normal "enemy" cultures, or even most non-Earth cultures. The Abandoned: Justen loves a hot pirate lady. Odo now has a room for his bucket. 16-20 is not an age gap that we feel great about but it's... okay for some reasons we lay out. Sisko and Miles dadding is great. The concept of the nature/nurture thing is good, but the end result strays real close to "crack baby". The fact that Odo is willing to throw his entire life away to save one orphan is great, and it's run over by the actual plot. BabSpace9 is a production of the Okay, So network. We praise Marc Alaimo's acting as Dukat, we analyze how this episode humanizes the “monster” character and how common this trope is in not just American media but also American history and we talk about the dynamic between Bajor and Cardassia in light of current events. Matthew asks if Kassidy moving onto the station is a “big step” and Jo has a sapphic meltdown over Kira in her away mission fit. As always, be prepared that spoilers may be lurking around every corner just like Garak on Empok Nor.Subscribe for weekly recaps of Star Trek Deep Space Nine, follow us online at @TerokNoir on Twitter for silly memes and polls and contact us by e-mail at teroknoirpod@gmail.com

In today's episode we're having a look at Worf, a character who's a rare series regular between two whole Star Trek shows. We wanted to have a look at some early stories of him in both TNG and DS9 and they both ended up being about bad actors wanting to ‘Make Qo'NoS Great Again' in their own ways. First we've got some rebellious Klingons making trouble in the Neutral Zone and Worf's first time being torn between his new friends and his work friends in “Heart of Glory”. Then we're over to some rash decisions from the Klingon Empire as they decide to invade Cardassia right after it's had a rebellion against its own government in “Way of the Warrior Parts 1 & 2”. This is a big, status quo changing episode with a lot of fun guest stars like friend of the pod Gul Dukat, Martok and the glorious eyes of Gowron. 0:19:39 TNG: Heart of Glory 0:49:49 DS9: Way of the Warrior Part 1 & 2 Just so you know Miles was beeping a little as the batteries on his explosive collar were running low. I edited around the beeps a lot, but there are a few still in there. - C Talking points include: our reasons for covering this episode, manifesting a god by having enough people scream at a road, The Exorcist, Brad Dourif being a moist serial killer, Brad Dourif being a good egg in Deadwood, Goodfellas (apparently that is Ray Liotta's real laugh), the works of M-Scoz, Kylie Minogue, Rick Astley, Bill Bailey's Klingonness, Blake's 7, Classic Doctor Who, The Simpsons, ValSpeak, Shenmue, Wing Commander, The Young Ones, Babylon 5, Red Dwarf, Brian K Vaughan, Mystique, Star Wars and space battles, event comics, and Gengar. Oh, and occasionally Star Trek. Pedant's Corner: Sweeps weeks are when people like Nielsen do their ratings calculations, so channels often pulled big stunts to try and get people watching. We didn't know AGIMUS was going to come back when this was recorded The decision and placement of Way of the Warrior was quick, even if it was sidetracked by several tangents Casual Trek is by Charlie Etheridge-Nunn and Miles Reid-Lobatto Music by Alfred Etheridge-Nunn Casual Trek is a part of the Nerd & Tie Network https://ko-fi.com/casualtrek Miles' blog: http://www.mareidlobatto.wordpress.com Charlie's blog: http://www.fakedtales.com

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: By Inferno's Light Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 5 episode 15 of Rebinge Deep Space Nine: By Inferno's Light! We wrap up our two-part story with lots of guest stars! We have Marc Alaimo as Gul Dukat, Melanie Smith as Ziyal, Andrew Robinson as Garak, JG Heltzler as Martok and Robert O'Reilly as Gowron. Not only do we need to survive the onslaught of Jem'Hadar ships from the end of last week's episode but we need to get Worf back to the Alpha Quadrant! By Inferno's Light We quickly put the death of Garak's dad behind us and try to figure out how to get the heck out of the internment camp. Back on the station we learn that Dukat has been up to no good for a long time and has aligned himself with the Dominion in order to become ruler of all of Cardassia (this seems like a very short-sighted plan). But maybe the biggest secret in this episode is the dark plan that Dukat and the Dominion have to destroy the Bajoran sun. Yikes! What's this rebinge thing? It's a re-watch of a thing you've already seen but love to watch and talk about. We go deep with every episode, walking you through every scene and analyzing all of the characters and story lines. Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Trials and Tribble-ations Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 5 episode 6 of Rebinge Deep Space Nine: Trials and Tribble-ations. This is a very famous episode where Sisko and crew accidentally go back in time and end up on an original episode of Star Trek. They mingle with Kirk, Spock and crew and get up close and personal with some tribbles. There's a lot of nostalgia in this episode, but one thing cannot be ignored is Bashir's hair. Whyyyy? Trials and Tribble-ations The crew retrieves a Bajoran migraine trigger (also known as an Orb of time) from Cardassia and they are flung back in time to meet up with Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock. They become background characters in one of the original episodes of the show while they rush to make sure the precious timeline doesn't get altered. We've got A LOT of fan service here with the uniforms, the equipment, the actual characters from TOS and some humor that might have been more appropriate in the 60's. What's this rebinge thing? It's a re-watch of a thing you've already seen but love to watch and talk about. We go deep with every episode, walking you through every scene and analyzing all of the characters and story lines. Please listen to some of our favorite episodes like Duet, The Visitor or Rejoined and check out the previous episode The Assignment. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Series 5, Episode 23. First broadcast on Monday, 12 May 1997. Previously, on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Tired of being a supporting character in a thankless role, Michael Eddington leaves DS9 to star heroically in a TV show which we never see and which exists entirely in his own imagination. After most of the cast and crew are killed by Cardassians — which can happen — and he himself is imprisoned for treason, he is recruited by Sisko for one final mission — to stop a deadly attack on Cardassia that is also entirely imaginary. Hero, traitor, or just some asshole with bad hair and a penchant for lavish Broadway musicals? Let's find out.

Positively Trek 177: Book Club: Terok Nor - Day of the Vipers This Book's Not Gonna Have a Happy Ending   The Occupation: its legacy looms large over the entire Star Trek: Deep Space Nine series, with the scars of that brutal era still felt by Bajor years later. However, not much has been told about the start of the occupation; what was Bajor like before the Cardassians came? What drove Cardassia to commit the crimes of the occupation? The subject of this week's Book Club episode explores these questions and more!   Before we finish with The Lost Era, there are just three more books to cover: The Terok Nor trilogy, chronicling the Cardassian Occupation of Bajor. In this episode of the Positively Trek Book Club, hosts Dan and Bruce talk about the first of these: Day of the Vipers by James Swallow. We discuss the characters both familiar and new, life on Bajor prior to the occupation, the state of Cardassia, dramatic irony, personal stories, scapegoats, the rise of the occupation, and wrap up with our final thoughts and ratings.   Recommended viewing: “Ensign Ro” - Star Trek: The Next Generation “Cardassians” - Star Trek: Deep Space Nine “The Collaborator” - Star Trek: Deep Space Nine   Show page: http://www.positivelytrek.com/ Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/positively-trek/id1501468628 Twitter: http://twitter.com/positivelytrek Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PositivelyTrek   Help support the podcast! The Way of the Warrior, Part 1. Following the revelation that the Founders had infiltrated the Alpha Quadrant, tensions are high and Starfleet is preparing for the worst. Those tensions rise when the Klingons arrive at Deep Space 9 on a mission—allegedly—to support their Federation allies. As trouble begins to brew, Sisko brings Worf to the station to help smooth things over and find out what is really going on. Once the Klingons' plans to invade Cardassia are revealed, the relationship between the Federation and the Empire quickly deteriorates and the 80-year-old peace treaty is dissolved. In this episode of The Orb, hosts C Bryan Jones and Matthew Rushing discuss Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's fourth season premiere and what amount to a soft reboot of sorts—one that would propel DS9 to become what many consider the most complex and interesting installment in the franchise. We talk about the many changes that came with “The Way of the Warrior," including the addition of Worf, the subtraction of Sisko's hair, airlocking the Khitomer Accords, and the introduction of the character who would redefine Klingons: General Martok. This week on Episode 520 of Priority One: the week belonged to Gene Roddenberry in celebration of his 100th birthday, the Star Trek Online community gets stirred up by some recent changes, and we look On Screen to Season 2 Episode 3 of Lower Decks! TREK IT OUT Edited by Thomas Reynolds One Hundred Years Of Gene By Elio Lleo This week, the Star Trek community celebrated what would have been Gene Roddenberry's 100th birthday. If you've been following the Roddenberry social channels, you will have seen daily quotes from celebrities, writers, influencers, and more–each reading a different quote from Gene Roddenberry. We also reported on the development of a full digital archive of his works. This week, it's been announced that a biopic is in the works with Adam Mazer penning the script. Also at the helm of the film's development are Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth. Image: Roddenberry Entertainment, via Deadline. While we're on the topic of celebrating Gene's centennial, be sure to catch Rod Roddenberry on an interview with Fox11 Los Angeles. During the interview, Rod explains the point of the “ThinkTREK” initiative that has been going throughout the summer along with some personal anecdotes about his father. And if that wasn't enough, even NASA got in on the celebration by hosting a conversation with scientists, engineers, and special guest George Takei, moderated by Rod Roddenberry. They even sent one of Gene's quotes into space by beaming the recording out towards the final frontier via their Deep Space Network. The panel is a little over 40 minutes long and spotlights the importance of infinite diversity in infinite combinations for the betterment of human-kind. https://twitter.com/NASA/status/1428010802443923467?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1428010802443923467%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fdeadline.com%2F2021%2F08%2Fstar-trek-gene-roddenberry-birthday-movie-biopic-adam-mazer-writing-you-dont-know-jack-1234817916%2F Vintages Of Future Past By Cat Hough If there's one thing we all enjoy around here, it's drinks [drink!–Ed.]. So when Star Trek Wines announced the addition of Andorian and Cardassian wines to its now six-bottle lineup, we could not be more excited to try them...unless the Cardassian one tastes like hot fish juice.  Please drink responsibly. Ushaaning everyone in sight is not "responsibly." Image: Star Trek Wines. Even if you're just a collector of really cool bottles, the Andorian Chardonnay is a lovely shade of blue and comes in a bottom-heavy clear bottle that is also festooned with a United Federation of Planets metal medallion. The Cardassian kanar bottle has a bit more pizazz [certainly one way to put it–Ed.]. Star Trek Wines states "the team conducted a rigorous multi-year search for an original Cardassian Kanar bottle, a unique, serpent-shaped vessel, originally utilized in the 1950s through the 1970s in Europe.” They then rendered those bottles in 3D for accuracy, resulting in one of the “most fascinating bottles in the Galaxy.” Of course Cardassians would make a bottle you feel uncomfortable just looking at. Image: Star Trek Wines As for the wine itself, the Andorian Chardonnay, priced at $50, is listed as premium Chardonnay from the Santa Lucia Highlands "aged 12 months prior to bottling" and has “delicious notes of citrus, peach and apricots." The Cardassian Kanar Red Wine Blend, priced at $60, is described as a mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Sirah, and Petite Verdot. They say these combine into "a dark, rich wine with notes of ripe blackberries and juicy blueberries, velvety tannins, and a long, delightful finish.” Both of these new wines are available for presale at StarTrekWines.com and expect to ship sometime in November. Or, if you want to buy the whole six-bottle collection–what they call "The Full Armada," it's currently available for $299.  Logic And Honor: Collect The Whole Set! By Rosco McQueen The team from Topps and Mego toys, known for their scale figures have teamed up in the most logical way as part of their ongoing collaboration, with the release of the new Mr Spock 8 inch action figure.  Spock is outfitted in his screen accurate Starfleet Command uniform and accessories as seen in 1979's Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The figure comes complete with phaser pistol, tricorder and an emotionless, logical facial expression (Vulcan nerve pinch not included.)   The 90-100 day shipping lead time is almost as long as the spacedock scene. Image: TOPPS. But if your display shelf is looking a little too Federation vanilla, time to spice up the Breget lung with some grapok sauce!  The legendary Dahar Master himself, Kor, son of Rynar can now be added to your collection, in 8 inch figure form.  Also in a screen accurate uniform and accessories, the Kor figure is as seen in the 1967 episode of Star Trek, "Errand of Mercy". Both are individually available for $19.99 US. Lamé is a good way to die. Image: TOPPS. Quick News Roundup Here are a few headlines that we didn't discuss but might interest you. Via her Twitter account on August 23rd, Michelle Paradise announces that S4 of Discovery has wrapped!  George Takei will lend his vocals to a Star Wars project in Visions. He had previously voiced Separatist General Lok Durd in The Clone Wars. Takei joins an already impressive English-speaking voice cast, which includes David Harbour, Karen Fukuhara–and Boba Fett himself, Temuera Morrison. STAR TREK GAMING NEWS Edited by Thomas Reynolds Mars, The Slip'N Slider Of War By Cat Hough The Infinity Lock Box returns and contains an all-new Tier 6 Starship, the Mars Pilot Escort [T6]. This ship features a 5/2 weapon layout and, since it is a Pilot Escort, a Commander Tactical/Pilot Specialist Bridge Officer seat, and a Lieutenant Universal/Intel Specialist Bridge Officer seat. The U.S.S. Le Guin, NCC-325060. Image: Cryptic Studios. It also comes equipped with a Universal Subspace Cavitation Matrix Console, which creates a subspace shockwave in normal space that will damage foes out to 5km from the impact point. This console also provides a passive bonus to Current and Maximum Engine Subsystem Power, as well as an increase to all weapon damage to foes within 5km. This ship also introduces a new Experimental Weapon, the Subspace Pocket Projector, capable of forming localized distortions in subspace that are then propelled toward a nearby foe. This distorts hull and shields, and slows their ship's ability to maneuver in normal space. Getting a piece of the action: three pieces, to be precise. Image: Cryptic Studios. Finally, leveling your Mars Pilot Escort will unlock the Improved Lock Trajectory Space Trait. While this trait is slotted, the recharge time of Lock Trajectory is reduced to zero, allowing the ability to be immediately re-engaged after it is turned off. [If they're not attached, does it matter which way it's pointing?–Ed.] Plus, you will be able to gain a reduction to the recharge times on Pilot Abilities, Cannon: Rapid Fire, and Cannon: Scatter Volley, whenever you deal Energy Weapon damage to a foe that is within your forward 90' firing arc (max once per 5 sec). Dilithium Sinks Keep (Re)Rolling Along By Rosco McQueen In an effort from Cryptic to provide players with options for their stockpiles of dilithium, a new permanent way to spend dilithium has been added to the game. STO Staff Systems Director Jeremy “BorticusCryptic” Randall explained that starting on August 24, Personal Endeavor Reroll Tokens and Admiralty Assignment Pass Tokens are purchasable for 2,500 Dilithium apiece. This change will appear on console platforms on September 8. One simple button couldn't be too controversial, right? Image: Cryptic Studios. Previously players could earn the tokens through the respective systems as random rewards.  That method has now been disabled.  The hope is to balance the game's Zen exchange to a more sustainable level.

Sisko is on a mission to build a space ship out of wood and prove some ancient Bajoran legends may have actually been truths. And that jerk Dukat is here to try and convince him not to bother. But never fear, Sisko has a goatee and he will not be stopped. Explorers In this episode, Sisko turns up with a goatee and we couldn't be happier about it. He's also got a new hobby - he's found some plans for an ancient spaceship that Bajorans supposedly flew and he wants to build one! Not everyone thinks this is a great idea, but he does it anyway! We've also got a B story of Julian and the woman who beat him out of the valedictorian title in school (how old are you when you stop worrying about being valedictorian? Come on Julian, give it up.). Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Profit and Loss Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 2 episode 18: Profit and Loss. In this episode, we have Cardassian fugitives who don't believe the government should be run by the military and Quark has a girlfriend. Everything is upside down! Special guest star Mary Crosby from "Who Shot JR?" fame stops by the station as Quark's Cardassian (!) ex to add to the long list of famous guest stars. Profit and Loss Some Cardassian fugitives are accidentally stranded on the station causing some consternation for Sisko. Not only are they fugitives, but one of them is an ex of Quark's and he seems prepared to give up his life on the station to follow her. For his trouble, she accidentally shoots him...but don't worry, everything is fine and she feels bad. Garak sees an opportunity to turn in the fugitives and regain favor with Cardassia...but alas...nothing is ever that easy on DS9. What's this rebinge thing? An old flame of Quark's happens by DS9. She's a Cardassian, but not just any Cardassian. She's teacher to a couple of students with radical ideas. This gets the interest of Garak the tailor. But he's not just any tailor. An outcast of his home world, he'd kill to get back to Cardassia. Literally. It doesn't take much to see that problems of three little people don't amount to a hill of beans on DS9, when Profit and Loss lands in the Mission Log.    Get in touch with us! Plain, simple Garak is back, though there is nothing plain nor simple about the young Cardassian he's spotted on DS9. The kid's name is Rugal and he was raised on Bajor, as a Bajoran. Things get even less simple when Gul Dukat gets involved. And all pretense of simplicity gets shot out of an airlock when Rugal's biological father turns out to be a high ranking politician on Cardassia. Will Rugal get to go home with his father? Or will he have to go home with his other father? And will this be the episode where Miles O'Brien finally stops hating all Cardassians just because they're Cardassian? Sisko and Jake build an ancient Bajoran spacecraft in order to prove that the Bajorans visited Cardassia 800 years ago, and Bashir begins to doubt himself when an old medical school rival appears on DS9. After the intensity of The Die is Cast, the show settles down with a small character piece. While it might be lacking in conflict, it makes up for it with some good old-fashioned character development. Plus, CGI spaceships! We're living in the future now.
