And that truth is: none of us thinks you should bother, including returning guest Will Leitch, who agrees that We Were Liars moves too slowly; shows AND tells too fart-sniffily; wastes the talents of an impressive cast, including Mamie Gummer and David Morse; and is based on a property whose author sounds fake. We went Around The Dial with the very real The Chicken Sisters, Untold, and The Mortician before Tara's Canon pitch reunited us with Party Down's third-season premiere. General Hospital won, Doctor Odyssey (maybe??) lost, and Dan Cassino got us all a volume discount on long-running shows in Game Time. Cannonball verrrrrry sloooowwwly into our all-new episode now! If I could turn back time—exactly 36 years—it would be 1989!This episode was inspired by the 1989 monster hit by Cher. Yes, that Cher, who was 43 years old and leaving nothing to the imagination! As I've done in the past, we're going to dig into the music charts and major box office hits, along with a few newsworthy events from the last year of the '80s.The music charts featured a mix of hair metal ballads and classic rock bands enjoying a late-career resurgence, with alternative and pop also well represented. This was an era when New Kids on the Block, Chicago, Rick Astley, and Poison were all played back-to-back on the radio. Back then, radio was pretty great. The big movies boasted massive hits from directors like Spielberg, Burton, Donner, and Zemeckis. The stars were names like Ford, Keaton, Gibson, and Fox—big movies with big budgets. But non-action films also drew huge audiences, like Parenthood and Dead Poets Society. This was the era when Robin Williams was earning numerous Academy Award nominations.Plus, it's crazy to think that this was the year the Berlin Wall fell and the Tiananmen Square protests—and subsequent massacre—took place.Available on Apple Podcasts, Spreaker, and major streaming platforms. Phil Harding had his hands in as many hits in the 80s/90s as anyone you care to mention. We will only concern ourselves with the better decade as we look into his career as producer/engineer and mixer.1. THE EARLY YEARS (Pre-1980-83)How Phil got into the business in the 70s, working with the likes of Gerry Rafferty (Baker Street!), The Walker Brothers (No Regrets!) and The Clash (White Man in Hammersmith Palais!), etc.Phil moves into the 80s with KIlling Joke and a very unique contribution to Sign of The Times by The Belle Stars. There is discussion on the differences (and similarities) between mixing pop and rock.2. MATT BIANCO/BASIA (1984-88)Working with Peter Collins leads to engineering Matt Bianco's first album which leads to Phil producing the follow up and mixing Basia's first solo LP. Through Peter connections are made with Pete Waterman.General chat on Phil's approach to mixing a track.3. STOCK AITKEN AND WATERMAN (PT 1) (1983-87)Phil enters the world of SAW. Talk of who did what within the team and experiences with Lamont Dozier, Princess, Mel & Kim and early Rick Astley.Further talk on who had "Woolworth's ears" and why SAW didn't produce Pet Shop Boys.4. DEAD OR ALIVE (1986-88)Let's face it, this section is almost exclusively about You Spin Me Round, the first SAW number one and an iconic 80s hit.5. BANANARAMA (1986-88)Working on Venus, Bananarama wanted the Spin-Me-Round hi NRG treatment, leading to a number of massive pop hits. Also discussed is the Bananarama vocal approach and how it was decided who at the Hit Factory worked on what.EITHER/OR | Does Phil have the Terminator listen to Prince on his ghettoblaster or Robocop listen to MJ on his walkman?Phil can be found Website: philhardingmusic.comTwitter: @phardingmusicFacebook: Phil Harding80sography@gmail.comSend us a text

Can a kamikaze-style sacrifice ever be morally justified? We explore the ethics of self-sacrifice in sci-fi scenarios and real life, along with deep (and wild) questions about vampires, psychiatric visions, Jesus’ second coming, and even the Rick Astley paradox. Join The CA Live Club Newsletter: Click Here Questions Covered: 02:23 – If someone were to kill everyone on earth to force Jesus’s second coming, would Jesus come? If the person did it to save everyone so they can all go to heaven, would this make them a good or bad person? 05:00 – Are heaven and hell customized for you and how you lived? 06:55 – If you sacrifice your life for God, do you go to hell for committing suicide? 14:45 – Could a killer whale get a taste for human flesh? 17:55 – I worked as a firefighter/EMT for a while and people prided themselves about having a stiff upper lip and a tough cynical personality. I got to thinking, some people are more docile, and some seem to pride themselves in having a rough edge. When we are perfected in heaven, will we all have the same disposition/temperament and just different talents and interests, or will our different dispositions remain? 22:01 – How will a body not be destroyed when living on earth forever? For example—If you fall off a cliff or get crushed? 28:57 – Can you please comment on the moral implications of the following? In Return of the Jedi, an A wing pilot gets shot down and plows his ship into the bridge of the Executor. Can a space pilot do this if death is a near certainty become a kamikaze? Or, in 2009's Star Trek movie, Captain Kirk's father stays behind and navigates the Kelvin on a collision course with the Romulan vessel to protect escaping shuttles. He sacrifices himself and the ship to save his son. Can the captain of a ship stay behind to again be a kamikaze to inflict heavy damage on somebody else and/or save other people if it means certain death? 32:59 – My Mom and sister are both nurses in a psych ward. They have had hundreds of patients who claim to see Angel’s and Demons. Some patients who claim they have seen them also knew personal information they shouldn’t have about Mom and Sister. Do you think these people are actually connected to the spiritual realm in a way we aren’t or is it just a mental illness? 38:08 – If a priest were to become a vampire, would he have to retire? 41:30 – If Santa Claus (not St Nicholas) were to die would he go to heaven? 44:01 – Will we see Wooly Mammoths in our lifetime? Will they really be Wooly Mammoths or something else that looks like them? 48:46 – How does the Rick Astley paradox work? Here's how it goes: If you ask Rick Astley for a copy of the movie Up he can't give it to you because he can't give you Up but if he doesn't give you Up he lets you down. This has been my hardest question since I heard it. What do you think? 50:54 – Sorry this is kind of a gross one. A few years back, there was a news story about a man who had his leg amputated and then had his friends over for a party where they ate tacos made from his amputated leg. While this is definitely strange, is it necessarily immoral?
In the 1980s, Rick Astley became a global superstar with hits like “Never Gonna Give You Up” and “Together Forever.” But then, at age 27, he quit the business. That could have been the end of the story, but then the Rickroll meme of the mid-2000s brought him back to the world's attention. Now, Rick has released a new memoir, “Never,” in which he opens up about his strange and incredible life. He joins Tom Power to share some of those stories.
Where is Rick Astley when you need him?

Send us a textSmash Mouth's Zach Goode's John Lennon Story, And Covering Beatles In New Single#smashmouth #beatles #covertunes #beatles #newmusic #johnlennon #punkrock Pop Punk All-Stars Smash Mouth's “Love Me Do” is a Beatles cover deluxe! When Smash Mouth formed in San Jose in 1994, although nobody gave it much thought at the time, it was 32 years since the Beatles released their first British single, “Love Me Do,” in October 1962. Now, 30 further years have elapsed, and the circle is closed as the SoCal punk party legends release their own version of that epochal Lennon-McCartney composition. Recorded for a forthcoming punk Beatles tribute album, “Love Me Do” is the latest in a very select line of classic covers that Smash Mouth have released over the years - their version of the Monkees' “I'm A Believer” remains a breathless delight, alongside a tremendous take on Rick Astley's “Never Gonna Give You Up” and, last year, the Brady Bunch's “Sunshine Day,” featuring none less than Greg Brady. This is not their first go-round with the Beatles, either - back in 2005, they tackled the Fabs' “Getting Better.” “Love Me Do,” however, is special. Bassist and founder member Paul DeLisle says, “Of course Smash Mouth are all massive Beatles fans, and it's such a huge honor to release this single. We were all super stoked to cover “Love Me Do” because we saw an opportunity to give a very different treatment to the Beatles' very first top 20 hit. “I personally hope people will hear the excitement and loving care we put into this recording. I'm pretty sure they will.” SINGLE: https://orcd.co/smashmouth_lovemedoWebsite: https://www.smashmouth.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/smashmouthInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/smashmouthofficial/X: https://twitter.com/smashmouthYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/user/SmashMouthVEVOZach Goode: https://www.zachgoode.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dividedbyzachFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/Zachary.Goode/X: https://x.com/dividedbyzachYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/user/dividedbyzachThanks for tuning in, please be sure to click that subscribe button and give this a thumbs up!!Email: thevibesbroadcast@gmail.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/listen_to_the_vibes_/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thevibesbroadcastnetworkLinktree: https://linktr.ee/the_vibes_broadcastTikTok: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMeuTVRv2/Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheVibesBrdcstTruth: https://truthsocial.com/@KoyoteFor all our social media and other links, go to: Linktree: https://linktr.ee/the_vibes_broadcastPlease subscribe, like, and share!
