In this episode, Jeff Hinshaw explores the Sagittarius Full Moon , a luminous culmination in Gemini season that illuminates the dynamic polarity between Gemini's curiosity and Sagittarius' quest for truth and expansion. In this episode we weave through the embodied astrology of Sagittarius (connected to the legs, hips) and Gemini's (hands, lungs), highlighting how this axis teaches us to integrate thought with lived experience. With Black Moon Lilith in Sagittarius and Uranus beginning its seven-year cycle in Gemini, we are collectively awakening to deeper truths, breaking ancestral patterns of shame, and reorienting toward more liberated ways of thinking and being. Through personal reflection, teaching stories, and somatic practices like drishti and body awareness, this episode offers a grounded yet expansive invitation to integrate, reorient, and illuminate what is emerging in your life. Then, we are joined by Cesar Gutierrez, also known as Soul Centaur, a Sagittarius astrologer, tarot reader, and devotional spiritual practitioner whose work bridges astrology, tarot and energy healing. Rooted in both Catholic upbringing and spiritual practice, Cesar now identifies as a Neo-Catholic, weaves together devotion to Santa Muerte, intuitive tarot, and lived experience of transformation through loss, identity, and awakening. Together, we explore ancestral reverence, queer spiritual reclamation, what it means to move through Gemini Season and the approaching Sagittarius Full Moon, with Uranus newly in Gemini illuminating themes of duality, perception, and spiritual expansion.   Cesar shares their journey into astrology and tarot beginning in 2018 during a Uranus transit, and how their practice deepened through COVID, personal loss, and the alchemy of becoming “Soul Centaur.” We explore the origin of this name as a fusion of Sagittarius symbolism and lived transformation, and how Sagittarius teaches the art of blending modalities while still staying grounded in discernment. We then close with a Mystical Meanderings journey into the realm of Sagittarius, where we meet a twin reflection in the forest, receive a symbolic toy airplane as expanded vision, are visited by an ancestor musician with a message of resilience, and end with the a tarot pull and a reminder that everything is cyclical. In this episode I respond to a criticism I've received lately: that my reflections on Catholic mysticism are starting to sound like “social justice.”But this raises an important question. What if the two were never separate to begin with?In the Catholic tradition, mysticism is not just visions, ecstasies, or extraordinary experiences. The true mark of union with God is transformation. When the saints grow closer to Christ, they begin to love like Him, serve like Him, and reveal Him to the world. From Scripture to the lives of the saints, the mystical life has always been deeply incarnational. To become united to Christ is to mirror His mercy, His courage, and His love for the least among us.In this video we explore how Catholic mysticism naturally flows into charity, justice, and the transformation of the world — not as politics, but as the fruit of becoming like Christ.

11/26/25 - Maria Esperanza de Bianchini was born on November 22, 1928, in Barrancas, Venezuela, and from the age of five experienced mystical visions, including Thérèse of Lisieux appearing from the Orinoco River and giving her a red rose. At twelve, gravely ill, she saw the Our Lady of the Valley, who foretold her mission to "help save this world," after which her health was miraculously restored. Though she entered a convent in 1954, a vision involving a rose and the stigmata revealed her true vocation as a wife and mother, and she later founded Finca Betania, where the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared publicly beginning in 1976. Credited with extraordinary gifts—mystical visions, reading hearts, bilocation, and roses spontaneously emerging from her chest—she also founded the Betania Foundation to promote evangelization, family unity, and spiritual renewal. Maria Esperanza died on August 7, 2004, and in 2010 the Church formally opened her cause for beatification, granting her the title "Servant of God," leaving a legacy of faith, prayer, and divine intimacy that continues to inspire believers worldwide.

[DONATE WITH PAYPAL] Greg delves deeper into the Catholic mystical tradition, defining mysticism as a profound union with God and tracing its history from early Church fathers to modern saints. Highlighting figures like St. Hildegard of Bingen, St. Teresa of Ávila, St. John of the Cross, St. Padre Pio, St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi, and St. Joan of Arc, he explores visions, ecstasies, and miracles that far surpass contemporary Pentecostal experiences in depth and transformative power. Contrasting these with charismatic gifts, Greg explains how Catholic mysticism—rooted in prayer, sacraments, and Church discernment—offers intimate, lifelong encounters with the divine. Addressing Protestant, Catholic, and secular listeners, this episode emphasizes the Spirit's enduring, profound work in the Church. Donate with PayPal! You have been robbed, lied to, and deceived. You have been told that Catholicism is full of rigid ideals, repetitive rituals and a lack of mystery and magic. You that's not wrong - that is certainly the way it is now - but before over-intellectualism got it's nasty hold on Catholicism, it was a system wrought with ceremonial magic, cleansing, banishing, and using the power of God to heal, manifest, even curse. This episode, I invite you to reconstruct your magical belief system around Christ, Mary and the Saints. Not as a religion, but as a spiritual doorway into discovering your own power, and the magical power of the divine. Many people tell me they want to work with Catholic spirits due to their ancestry, but then tell me all of the issues they have with Church dogma. Here I not only discuss the importance of a practice outside the church - but I also discuss these objections, and offer solutions that make sitting with these figures more palatable. https://youtu.be/0xwGSThPczQ SCROLL DOWN FOR AUDIO ONLY It's impossible to read St. Paul's letters without coming across the topic of suffering. It's everywhere. And it's because the question of suffering is constantly nagging us. Why do we suffer? What does it mean? If God loves us, how come we suffer? Enter St. Paul. His teaching is absolutely essential to the understanding of suffering and how it can become beautifully redemptive through the Cross of Christ. So to unpack his amazing (very Catholic) teaching, I asked Dr. John Kincaid, an expert on St. Paul, to join me on the Art of Catholic. In this episode we discuss: The essence of the Catholic teaching on redemptive sufferingHow what I was taught as a Protestant about suffering didn't really understand St. PaulHow we can actually "rejoice" in our suffering along with St. Paul (Col. 1:24)Why it's okay to be weak (yep!)The incredible meaning behind Paul's discussion of "labor pains" in Galatians that will totally expand your view of redemptive suffering This is an incredibly eye-popping conversation and it's perfect timing for our liturgical time of the year, as well as what's going on in the world. God bless and enjoy! Matthew P.S. I was besieged with emails asking for more time to go through the FREE streaming of Catholic Mysticism & the Beautiful Life of Grace? What if I told you the game has changed? What if I told you that things have gotten so serious that there are often-ignored spiritual truths we have to be aware of or we're not going to survive the current climate? The reality is that we are at war. The forces of darkness are trying to destroy your life. They're trying to kill you. And it appears the battle has intensified, which means you have to be ready. And that's why I asked EWTN's Dan Burke to come on to the Art of Catholic and discuss his new book Spiritual Warfare and the Discernment of Spirits. But we're not just talking about the warfare itself. We're going to talk about how to deal with it and protect yourself from the Evil One. Among other things we'll discuss: The current state of spirituality in the ChurchWhy we have to be aware of demonic forcesHow the Ignatian rules of spirituality combat evilThe most important rule of them allThe complementarity of Carmelite & Ignatian spiritualityThe importance of community Spiritual warfare is real. And Dan knows what he's talking about. This is a fascinating conversation that will open your eyes to the reality behind the spiritual curtain. God bless! Matthew P.S. Sister Thorn and Catholic Mysticism in Modern America (UNC Press, 2013) is a detailed journey into the life of Margaret Reilly, an American Irish-Catholic from New York who entered the Convent of the Good Shepherd in 1921, taking the name Sister Crown of Thorns. During the 1920s and 1930s, Sister Thorn became known as a stigmatic who bled the wounds of Christ. In this microhistory of Thorn's story, Professor Paula Kane immerses readers in a world in transition, where interwar Catholics retained deep mystical devotionalism, yet also began to claim a confident new role as assimilated Americans. She does so through a very provocative question: “How did a stigmatic help ordinary Catholic understand themselves as modern Americans?” In the process, Professor Kane explores religious practice and mysticism through a number of theoretical literatures–including theology, psychology, feminism, sociology, and cultural studies–opening up multiple new avenues for scholars of religion to consider.
