Aleister Crowley was an English occultist, ceremonial magician, poet, philosopher, political theorist, novelist, mountaineer, and painter. He founded the religion of Thelema, identifying himself as the prophet entrusted with guiding humanity into the Æon of Horus in the early 20th century. Most know of him from his occult celebrity built on the premise, "Do What Thou Will Is The Whole of The Law" but what about his other "secret" life as an agent for the British government? Join Joel as he unravels part 1 of Agent Crowley's mark on MK-Ultra as he explores Aleister's fascination with the Divine Cactus, or peyote. Crowley's experimentation with the plant in achieving Samadhi, or “Union with God”, to connect with his Holy Guardian Angel to receive guidance. Early experiments from men like Charles Henry Allan Bennett, John Raleigh Briggs, George S. Davis, James Mooney, Dr. Silas Weir Mitchell and member of the Golden Dawn, William Butler Yeats all set the tone for the hidden trials the Great Beast would embark on. Lastly, Joel looks at Crowley's mescaline parties he performed in the United States and his use of the drug to bring him closer to what he believed were the Secret Chiefs. It has been quite some time since What Magic is This? has had the chance to talk about one of the most important figures of High Strangeness in the last 100 years. Robert Anton Wilson was a phenomenon unlike any other, but he had a very particular mixture of influences all of which came through in his worldviews and his work. ANGELA'S SYMPOSIUM 📖 Academic Study on Witchcraft, Paganism, esotericism, magick and the Occult
Learn about the fascinating connection between François Rabelais' Gargantua and Aleister Crowley's Thelema. In Gargantua, Rabelais introduces the Abbey of Thélème, a utopian society governed by the motto 'Fay ce que vouldras' ('Do what you will'). This principle would later inspire Crowley's central Thelemic tenet, 'Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.' Learn how Rabelais' Renaissance humanism, satire, and vision of personal freedom profoundly influenced Crowley's esoteric philosophy, bridging the gap between literature and occult spirituality. In this episode, we are focussing solely on this infamous deck, the two figures who brought it to life, and the history of it. No one knows this deck better than my guest- Lon Milo Duquette!

The concept of what can be called Occult is fairly easy to pin down, but what can we say about "Occultism?" Ask seven Occultists and you will get seven wildly different answers. And yet it truly is a huge part of what has always seemingly bubbled below the surface of Western History for the last 500 years, despite the word Occultism being a 19th century invention. Taking us through what Occultism appears to be, as well as how we presently conceptualize it is Occult Historian, Author and Lecturer- Mitch Horowitz!

OFFICIAL DISCLOSURE is back in the news as a “whistleblower” has come forward with claims of alien spacecraft recovered by the US military. We've heard this before. Actual proof is non-existent, and, as with every major UFO/UAP “disclosure” since Roswell in 1947, the military-intelligence complex has fingerprints all over it. So, to commemorate the 76th anniversary of the Roswell incident, we bring you a presentation based on the 2017 book Josh Peck and I co-authored, The Day the Earth Stands Still. This was a talk I gave last fall at the Church of Glad Tidings in Live Oak, California. The bottom line is this: The modern belief in “ancient aliens” can be traced from Zecharia Sitchin and Erich Von Däniken back to the occult teachings of Helena Petrovna Blavatsky and Aleister Crowley—by way of the horror fiction of H. P. Lovecraft. In our book, and in this talk, we connect the dots from Crowley to Cthulhu to Chaos.
We're Back Creeps! After a small hiatus, we have RETURNED and with a whole new side of the creepy case. In this episode, we dive into a brief overview of "The Beast" himself Aleister Crowley. Going through his wild lifestyle while also diving into fits of absolute unhinged laughter. Prepare yourselves creeps. On this one there's a few facts, and a lot of side tracks. From the creation of his own religion, becoming a published poet, a mountaineer and hosting wizarding wars - Aleister was nothing short of a boring person. And this is just the overview episode. With the insane history, to the insane laughter; this episode is sure to give us all a magickal case, of the creeps.

Welcome back to ParaPower Mapping. It's another Boston Brahmin Watch Premium Feed teaser, folks—the second installment in our ongoing Fin De Siècle Symbolists, Satanists, & French-British Sex Trafficking Networks series. Speaking of which, free trials have been activated over on the Patreon, so if you'd like to access the full versions of this series, head on over to: patreon.com/ParaPowerMapping ... Let me be your Virgil today, dear listener, or your Orpheus, as we descend into another infernal circle of the fin de siècle Satanic scene. The attendant TWs, folks, this is another dark one. This episode includes: Our cont'd mapping of the overlaps & interconnections b/w the Symbolist, Decadent, Rosicrucian, Theosophical, & Satanic scenes in London; a closer look at J.K. Huysmans's transition from Naturalism to Symbolist & finally Decadent Satanism, as well as homoerotic & pederastic themes in his novels Against Nature & The Damned; Huysmans's occult apprenticeship under the Satanic Abbé Boullan, at least one of the prototypes of the Satanic Priest Canon Docre in Là-bas; his beliefs in "expiatory suffering" & Dolorism; his predecessor Eugene Vintras; the Mystic Substition of Pain—antecedents of Crowley's later philosophies of "initiation through sexual transgression"; Boullan's reputation of holding Satanic orgies & child sacrifice, and fellow occultists Stanislas de Guaïta & Papus's investigation into his cult & misdeeds, which led to a black magic duel (that Huysmans's maintained took Boullan's life); contemporary French depictions of the devil (Dr. Bataille, Michelet, Bois); Sar Péladan's Salon de la Rose + Croix; his Catholic Legitimist & Bourbon Restorationist father, who founded his own Catholic sect; his crazy alchemist brother who OD'd on strychnine; Péladan's claim that he could utilize remote viewing for espionage purposes (which he declared to French President Félix Faure); Péladan's connections to many prominent artists, poets, & composers—Erik Satie, Debussy, Wagner, Christina Rossetti, W.B. Yeats, etc.; his many collaborations w/ the Satanic painter Felicien Rops; his Eastern & Catholic Mysticism; the Moonchild; Marcel Schwob's depictions of witchcraft & Satanism in his stories "The Embalming Women", "The Faulx-Visaiges"; & "The Sabbat at Mofflaines"; Schwob's literary & aristocratic networks; first mention of Aleister Crowley's favorite "upstairs" club, Le Chat Blanc (The White Cat); more of Crowley's time in Paris; a brief foray into Italy to discuss a few anecdotes from Crowley's Abbey of Thelema; academics drinking cat blood & dying; a murderous prostitute named "Tiger Lady"; Crowley's bloody ties & Ripper story; Kenneth Anger; the "sexually transgressive" wall murals; getting kicked out of Italy by Benito Mussolini (prefiguring our later discussion of Crowley's expulsion from France); Affaire des Poisons & the La Voisin trial; the black magic black market of King Louis XIV (the Sun King); La Voisin & Guibourg's Satanic rites; various assassination attempts with poison; a brief Israel Regardie bio; his time as secretary to Crowley; Aleister's World War I counter-espionage stories in interviews w/ Paris-Midi; his exile from France; and the curious fact that a terrible rail accident occurred on the exact same Brussels-bound line exactly 3 hours & 32 minutes (or 333?) before Crowley was to depart for Belgium via train (and the obligatory wonderments about this all together too coincidental fact). In this episode we welcome Sounds legends Sandy Robertson and Edwin (Savage Pencil) Pouncey into our Hammersmith lair and ask them about their careers and shared fascination with the occult. After describing their routes into writing and their days at Sounds, Sandy and Edwin reflect on the dark history of occult rock from Black Widow to Norway's Black Metal scene, via Jimmy Page, Kenneth Anger and Aleister "the Beast" Crowley. Clips from the late Andy Gill's 1990 audio interview with Liberty/United Artists executive Andrew Lauder give us an opportunity to honour the Hartlepool-born facilitator of musical freakiness and discuss the many acts he signed and/or A&R'd over the course of 50 years, from Hawkwind and the Groundhogs to the Stranglers and the Stone Roses. After saying our goodbyes to reggae sound-system operator Jah Shaka and small-trio jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal, Mark and Jasper run through their highlights among recent additions to the RBP library, including pieces about Nancy Sinatra (1967), the Eagles (1972) and Kim Deal and Tanya Donnelly (1993)... and a 2011 tribute to hip hop star Dwight "Heavy D" Myers. What cults, religions and teachings did Aleister follow or create? Are any of the stories of him true, or myth and folklore? Are his writings just low level smut, or is there some resonance in Crowley's philosophies? Is Aleister just a wannabe Merlin or could he have been a powerful enough magician to open portals to other worldly dimensions? Jason Andrews is a man beset with initiation by the otherworldly. As host of the Paranormal Patio podcast, Jason has spoken with a variety of highly notable names in the fields of the paranormal, supernatural, and all around high strangeness. Jason's own experiences with the phenomenal, however, are chock full of synchronicity and magick and are as astounding and perception shattering as any of the guests to which he has played host. On tonight's episode of MIK, as the veil begins its thinning, we sit down with Jason to discuss the call of the ethereal and how that call has seemingly guided him most of his life to culminate into the strange journey he now finds himself on with the upcoming release of his video documentary project, “Surface: Before Me, My Altar.” From prophetic, lucid dreams, and the kinfolk of Aleister Crowley, to the possibility that the very entrance to the hollow Earth itself has been found right here in the Bluegrass… The hour has just struck midnight on the Paranormal Patio and MIK is in conversation with Jason Andrews to hear just how it all leads back to Kentucky!
