‘The Full Go' begins with Jason taking inventory on how he feels about the state of the NCAA and college basketball (01:58). After this weekend's altercation between Juwan Howard and Greg Gard, Jason explains why the antics of college coaches may be the best advertisement for the NBA G League (07:40). Plus, Jason exposes the hypocrisy of Tom Izzo, who championed the importance of the handshake line (12:13). Dave Helem is a stand-up comedian, writer, and former teacher. Dave joins ‘The Full Go' to analyze the science of stand-up, his creative process, and getting advice from Dave Chappelle (22:51). Jason knows a thing or two about cryptic messages, which is why it's time to tip the cap to Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers posted a series of images on his Instagram that may hint at his future with the Packers. Except, it turned out to be nothing after Rodgers didn't break any news about his future on the 'The Pat McAfee Show.' Either way, it was an expert troll job by the GOAT (58:19). This week on #FlashbackFriday, where we unearth some of We Are Regal Radio/WARR Media's best segments and features from our vault prior to WARR on Anchor, we take it back to the Illinois Media School and our legendary Saturday D & Davis Show sessions on State Street. In studio for this one was the great stand-up comedian, satirist and groundbreaking "Blipster," Felonious Munk. Munk was celebrating quite a bit at the time -- making steady appearances on Larry Wilmore's "Nightly Show" on Comedy Central, putting on highly-regarded shows throughout Chicago with collaborators like Dave Helem and he was weeks away from welcoming a son into the world. Not much has stopped since for Munk, who now is breaking through as an actor, getting praise for his role on the ABC show "For Life," which recently returned for a second season. Keep checking back each Friday for more Flashbacks including segments from classic D & Davis Shows and other former WARR shows along with exclusive interviews and standalone features. Comedian Dave Helem shares his insight on comedy as a Chicagoan, a Black man, and a disciple of both Kanye West and Gucci Mane. Behind the jokes is a real dialogue about not letting the machine chew you up and spit you out. We also talked about whether there is a brotherhood among Black comedians, and the difference between a comedian and someone who is just funny on the internet.
Car Con Carne kicked off the live events in the Taste of Chicago's "Food for Thought" podcast pavilion this year, and a bunch of guests were there to make sure it was a ridiculously fun time. The first half of the show finds me sitting down with comedian Dave Helem, Rockit Executive Chef Amanda Downing, singer/songwriter Daniel Wade and Nathan Graham, frontman for the Lucky Dutch. After catching up about what everyone's up to, we talk about essential things like food, music and baseball. Nathan brought along his guitar so I asked him to play for the crowd. What happened next was a tent-searing acoustic performance of the Lucky Dutch song "Good Honest Man"... you really need to hear this (but please don't fast forward; the interview stuff before it is awesome)! After the performance, I'm joined by Yak Channel Podcast Network colleagues and friends Michelle L'amour, Kevin Alves and Amy Guth. Michelle talks about the state of burlesque, her nerves about podcasting and that time she was on "America's Got Talent." Kevin breaks down Chicago's storefront theater scene and talks about the hilariously brilliant concept show "I Saw You." Yak Channel co-founder/media titan Amy Guth talks about the state of her documentary, the state of media and why the Smiths could factor into her future plans. It was a blast doing this show in front of a live audience, and there truly is something for everyone in this episode. Hope you enjoy listening!
