MDJ Script/ Top Stories for March 5th Publish Date:  March 5th    Commercial: From the BG Ad Group Studio, Welcome to the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast.    Today is Wednesday, March 5th and Happy Birthday to Andy Gibb ***03.05.25 - BIRTHDAY – ANDY GIBB*** I’m Keith Ippolito and here are the stories Cobb is talking about, presented by Times Journal Early Voting in Cobb Commission Runoff Underway Cobb to Consider Gas Station, Drive-Thru on Austell Road Cobb and Douglas Public Health wants to expand services, but federal funding has grown more uncertain All of this and more is coming up on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen and subscribe!  BREAK: Ingles Markets 5 STORY 1: Early Voting in Cobb Commission Runoff Underway Early voting for the March 11 runoff in Cobb County’s District 2 special primary election has begun, with Democrats Erick Allen and Dr. Jaha Howard competing for the seat formerly held by Jerica Richardson. Neither candidate secured over 50% in the February primary. Key voter concerns include zoning, transportation, and LGBTQ+ rights. Early voting runs through March 7 at two locations, with Election Day on March 11. The winner will face Republican Alicia Adams on April 28. The election redo, ordered after a court ruling on district maps, could cost taxpayers $1.5 million. STORY 2: Cobb to Consider Gas Station, Drive-Thru on Austell Road The Cobb County Planning Commission will review a proposal for a gas station, convenience store, retail spaces, and a drive-thru restaurant on Austell Road near Pat Mell Road. The 3.83-acre site will replace an existing water damage recovery business with two new buildings: a 5,000-square-foot convenience store with eight fuel stations and attached retail spaces, and a 2,200-square-foot fast-food restaurant. The convenience store will operate 24/7, while other spaces will run 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Zoning staff supports the plan, recommending a 20-foot landscape buffer and lighting plans to protect nearby residential areas. STORY 3: Cobb and Douglas Public Health wants to expand services, but federal funding has grown more uncertain Lisa Crossman, deputy director of Cobb and Douglas Public Health, is focused on improving health services in South Cobb, where many residents lack insurance, healthy food options, and mental health resources. Plans include a $17.5 million health center offering services like cancer screenings, mental health care, and a food pantry. Federal funding delays, including $3 million from Sen. Jon Ossoff, threaten the project’s timeline. Local nonprofits like Sweetwater Mission and the Center for Family Resources support the initiative, emphasizing its importance for underserved residents. Crossman is seeking alternative funding to avoid significant delays, aiming for a 2026 opening. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.799.6810 for more info.    Break: STORY 4: The Avenue West Cobb kicks off spring with first ever Bloom Campaign The Avenue West Cobb in Marietta is hosting BLOOM, a month-long eco-friendly event series from March 15 to April 22, celebrating spring and sustainable living. Highlights include: - **World Water Day** (March 22): Free water bottles, goodie bags, and donations benefiting Pure Water for the World, with a $100 gift card giveaway. - **Spring Fashion Preview** (March 24-28): Showcasing spring collections from retailers like J. Jill and Altar’d State, with giveaways and promotions. - **Spring Festival** (April 17): Family-friendly activities like an Easter egg drop, scavenger hunt, face painting, and a petting farm. Local artist Sheena Yoe will also display her spring-inspired art collection. Visit avenuewestcobb.com/bloom for details. STORY 5: High Court Upholds Conviction of Mableton Murderer The Georgia Supreme Court upheld the murder conviction of David Nesbit, who fatally shot Gregory Gabriel during a 2020 altercation at a Mableton gas station. Nesbit initiated the dispute, firing the first shot, while Gabriel, unable to flee, was struck twice and later died. Nesbit fled the scene but was arrested over a week later, indicted in 2021, and sentenced to 35 years in 2022. His appeal for a new trial, citing ineffective counsel and alleged prosecutorial misconduct, was denied, with the Supreme Court affirming the conviction on Tuesday. Break: STORY 6: 'A Social Thing': New Wine Tasting Room Coming to Austell Divinely Elegant Vines, a wine tasting room and bottle shop in downtown Austell, will open on March 15. Founded by Jessena and Michael Waldo, the space offers 12 wine varietals, locally-sourced charcuterie, and an intimate, educational wine experience. The 1,000-square-foot venue features dark red and black decor, an outdoor patio, and events like wine tastings, classes, and live entertainment. The Waldos aim to foster community and share their passion for wine, with plans to expand in the future. The grand opening includes live music, food, and wine giveaways. Visit www.divinelyelegantvines.com for details. STORY 7: Georgia Senate Republicans pass religious freedom law, raising concerns about discrimination The Georgia Senate passed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (SB 36) on Tuesday in a 32-23 party-line vote. The bill requires courts to prioritize religious customs in disputes unless there’s a “compelling government interest.” Proponents, like Sen. Ed Setzler, argue it protects religious rights, citing cases from other states. Critics, including Sen. RaShaun Kemp, warn it could enable discrimination against LGBTQ individuals and others, as the bill lacks anti-discrimination protections. Similar legislation was vetoed in 2016 due to backlash from civil rights groups and businesses. SB 36 now heads to the Georgia House for consideration. I am happy with the way this backing track came out. I used Dave Hum's YouTube video as a template. I found a cover drum track on YouTube for the Bee Gee's (Andy Gibb's) song "Jive Talking." It worked well for this song. To me the finished track has kind of a Rolling Stones vibe to it, but I think it works nice. Believe it or not, I am only using MIDI drums in this track, I'm not playing bass. I use MixCraft Pro software to make all my backing tracks. MIDI is fun to work with. I just use my mouse to enter the bass notes into the program. I listened intently to Dave Hum's bass playing and used that as a guide. I used MODO (a free bass emulator plugin for Digital Audio Workstations like MixCraft) of a classic 1960's P bass. I hope you like it. Enjoy my friend!

Pat Arnold (born Patrica Ann Cole in 1946 in Los Angeles), professionally known as P.P. Arnold, is a soul singer who enjoyed considerable success in the United Kingdom in the 60s and beyond. Born into a family of gospel singers, PP married early, had two children, worked a series of menial jobs until the early 60s, when her friends contacted her with an offer she couldn't refuse. The girls had managed to arrange an audition for them to replace the original Ikettes, the vocal and dancer/singer troupe behind the Ike and Tina Turner Revue. One of the girls didn't show up and PP was asked to fill in. The three girls were offered the job on the spot. PP defied her husband, placed her children in the care of her parents and joined Ike & Tina Turner. She came to England in 1966 on tour in support of The Rolling Stones. Mick Jagger was impressed by her soulful voice and convinced Stones manager Andrew Oldham to sign PP to record with his newly founded record label. PP quit the Turner band to establish a solo career. She also had a fling with Jagger. PP enjoyed several major British hits, including songs written for her by Steve Marriott of The Small Faces. She also sung backing vocals on the their hit "Tin Soldier" and toured with them in 68. PP toured with Jimi Hendrix, The Who, The Kinks, Blind Faith, David Bowie and others, and scored several hits including a cover version of "The First Cut Is the Deepest" and "Angel of the Morning". After the collapse of record label in the late 60s, PP released two singles produced by Barry Gibb of The Bee Gees, but a planned album with Gibb was never completed. In 1970 she moved to the musical stage, and contributed session musician backing vocals to many notable UK sessions. During these sessions she met bassist Fuzzy Samuels of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. They married and had a son. The couple returned to Los Angeles. PP''s marriage to Samuels ended and two weeks after the split, her daughter Debbie was killed in a car accident. She withdrew from public life, re-emerging in 1978 when she was reunited with Barry Gibb and teamed up with Andy Gibb for a duet recording of the Carole King song "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow". She returned to England in 1982 to raise her son there. In 1984 she joined the cast of the musical Starlight Express. She appeared on Roger Waters' album in 1992, providing vocals on the song "Perfect Sense". In 1994 she joined the cast of the award-winning musical Once On This Island. While the production was playing in Birmingham she met leading UK band Ocean Colour Scene, one of the new wave of latter-day mod groups who (like their mentor Paul Weller), idolised The Small Faces. Her friendship with OCS led to her singing the lead vocal, backed by Primal Scream, on a cover of The Small Faces' "Understanding", which was included on a successful Small Faces tribute album. She also worked extensively with Ocean Colour Scene on their 1997 album. This success led to plans for her to record her first solo album in decades, but once again it was not completed. Deciding to put together a new band to promote her material, Arnold joined forces with Chaz Jankel, former pianist with Ian Dury and The Blockheads. This was followed by an invitation to tour widely with Roger Waters. She was a backup vocalist on his 1999–2000 tour as well as the 2006–2008 tour, Dark Side of the Moon Live. In mid 2007 she released her first recorded work for several years. The album is a duet with The Blow Monkeys frontman Dr. Robert and has been met with critical acclaim, as have their live performances at several venues.

MDJ Script/ Top Stories for Mar 5th             Publish Date:  Mar 4th            Commercial: From the Ingles Studio, Welcome to the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast.    Today is Tuesday, March 5th, and Happy heavenly Birthday to entertainer Andy Gibb. ***03.05.24 – BIRTHDAY – ANDY GIBB*** I'm Dan Radcliffe and here are the stories Cobb is talking about, presented by Credit Union of Georgia.  GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting Near Six Flags Woman Arrested After Threatening Sheriff's Deputies in Standoff Members say Traffic Circle Threatens Marietta Church   All of this and more is coming up on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen and subscribe!    BREAK: CUofGA   STORY 1: GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting Near Six Flags A 15-year-old is in critical condition following a shooting incident involving a Cobb police officer near Six Flags amusement park. The incident occurred amidst attempts to control a crowd of approximately 500-600 individuals who were reportedly involved in a brawl and causing havoc in the park. According to reports, shots were fired during the chaos, striking a police vehicle. This prompted officers to chase several individuals into a nearby wooded area. During the pursuit, an officer discharged his weapon, resulting in the teenager's injury. A handgun was subsequently discovered in the vicinity of the injured minor. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been tasked with conducting an independent investigation into the incident. The findings of this probe will be turned over to the Cobb County District Attorney's Office for review. Importantly, no officers were harmed during the altercation. STORY 2: Woman Arrested After Threatening Sheriff's Deputies in Standoff A woman, identified as Ebony Shari Singleton, has been arrested following a standoff with the Cobb County Sheriff's Office deputies at a residence in Mableton. The situation unfolded when deputies attempted to serve a restraining order at the property. Singleton, however, barricaded herself in an upstairs bedroom and threatened to shoot the deputies, claiming possession of a firearm. Despite several attempts to persuade Singleton to surrender peacefully, the decision was ultimately made to forcibly breach the door to her location. Singleton was apprehended and initially transported to a local hospital before being officially taken into custody. She is currently held on a $6,820 bond and will be evaluated by mental health professionals. Cobb County Sheriff Craig Owens has praised the officers involved for their handling of the incident, culminating in a successful and safe resolution. STORY 3: Traffic Circle Threatens Marietta Church, members say The New Hope United Methodist Church, a historical landmark in Marietta since 1856, is at risk due to the city's plan to construct a roundabout. The proposed traffic circle would encroach on the church's parking lot and necessitate modifications to its entrance. Members of the church express concern that the changes could disrupt their congregation and diminish the church's identity. From the city's perspective, the roundabout is seen as a solution to manage increasing traffic and enhance pedestrian safety, spurred by nearby development. However, church members are advocating for different solutions such as the installation of a traffic light or the use of adjacent parking lots. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.799.6810 for more info.    We'll be right back.   Break: HENRY CO SHERIFFS – DRAKE   STORY 4: Circles Cobb Celebrates First Graduates of Poverty Reduction Program Circles Cobb is actively working to combat poverty in Cobb County through the application of the Circles USA model. This model provides crucial support to individuals working towards achieving financial stability. Recently, eight participants successfully completed an initial 12-week training program, designed to foster financial literacy and encourage goal-setting. As a result of their participation in the program, these graduates have undergone significant changes in their financial behaviors. They have transitioned to fixed spending habits and have placed a greater emphasis on saving. To ensure ongoing support, each graduate is paired with volunteer allies. The effectiveness of the program is underscored by its results; typically, participants across Circles chapters in North America see a 75% increase in income after 18 months. The recent graduates have already reported improvements in income and housing stability, offering a beacon of hope for their families. For more information, visit www.CirclesCobb.org. STORY 5: Cobb Development Authority OKs $4.25M Bonds for Tommy Nobis Center The Development Authority of Cobb County has given its approval for $4.25 million in tax-exempt bonds to facilitate the renovation of Tommy Nobis Center's new headquarters. The new location, at 240 Interstate North Parkway, was previously occupied by the Cobb Chamber of Commerce. Nonprofit organizations like the Tommy Nobis Center can only issue tax-exempt bonds through conduit authorities, a mechanism that helps reduce borrowing costs. The issuance of these bonds also received approval from the Cobb Board of Commissioners. These bonds have a maturity period of five years. In other developments, the authority unanimously reelected its officers. Clark Hungerford will continue as chair, Donna Rowe as vice chair, Karen Hallacy as secretary treasurer, and Smith Peck as assistant secretary treasurer.   We'll be back in a moment.   Break: CURIOSITY LAB BIKE RACE    STORY 6: Applications Now Open for Pigs & Peaches BBQ Competition and Vendors Kennesaw Parks & Recreation is inviting applications for the barbeque competition and vendors for the 2024 Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival. The festival will run from August 16th to 17th at Adams Park, featuring the Kansas City Barbeque Society-sanctioned competition and recognized as a Southeast BBQ Championship event. The competition will host 30 teams in the pro category and 20 in the backyard category. Alongside, there will be contests for Anything Butt and Peach Desserts with over $16,000 in cash and prizes. Interested vendors or competitors can apply at www.pigsandpeaches.com. STORY 7: Pop Culture and Nerddom Gather in Marietta The second annual Marietta the Gathering celebrated pop culture and geekdom on Marietta Square. Attendees enjoyed activities like Super Smash Bros. gaming, classic Super Mario games, and the Box of Doom game. The event also featured pickup games of Magic: The Gathering and showcased local authors' books. Characters from various universes, including Star Wars, were present, many of whom were members of the Georgia Garrison of the 501st Legion, known for their charitable work. GDP Script/ Top Stories for Mar 5th       Publish Date:  Mar 4th          From the Ingles Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Tuesday, March 5th and Happy heavenly Birthday to entertainer Andy Gibb. ***03.05.24 – BIRTHDAY – ANDY GIBB*** I'm Bruce Jenkins and here are your top stories presented by Tom Wages Funeral Home Gwinnett Jury Convicts Teen For Involvement In 2020 Armed Robbery And Murder As electric vehicles become more prominent, Gwinnett Tech is stepping up its EV study to meet the demand Jon Ossoff holding two constituent services events in Gwinnett this month All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: TOM WAGES   STORY 1: Gwinnett Jury Convicts Teen For Involvement In 2020 Armed Robbery And Murder 19 year old Abraham Quintanar from Gwinnett County has been handed a life sentence following his conviction last week for his involvement in the 2020 murder of Marcus Gilead. Quintanar was found guilty on multiple charges, including felony murder and aggravated assault. The case revolved around a drug-related robbery that took place at Gilead's residence. Quintanar, along with two other individuals, attempted to steal $600 that had been exchanged during a drug transaction. During the incident, Quintanar pointed a firearm at Ciavy Wiles, a friend of Gilead's. Gilead was fatally shot by Quintanar when he tried to intervene. Following the shooting, the other two suspects fled the scene. One of them, Sebastian Resendiz-Garcia, later entered a guilty plea for voluntary manslaughter. The trial for the third suspect, Miguel Gonzalez, is still pending. STORY 2: As electric vehicles become more prominent, Gwinnett Tech is stepping up its EV study to meet the demand Gwinnett Technical College is set to broaden its offerings with the addition of a program focused on the maintenance of electric vehicles. This groundbreaking initiative will also include a course on servicing vehicle charging stations. The introduction of this program makes Gwinnett Tech the first technical college in Georgia to provide such a course. Over the years, the automotive technology department at the college has been steadily incorporating EV-related subjects into its standard curriculum. The college will soon roll out a certification program dedicated to hybrid-electric and battery-electric vehicles. The partnership between Gwinnett Tech, Siemens, and other departments facilitates students' acquisition of skills in the installation and upkeep of charging stations. STORY 3: Sen. Jon Ossoff holding two constituent services events in Gwinnett this month Senator Jon Ossoff's office has announced plans to host two community service events in Gwinnett County this month, with the objective of guiding residents through issues related to federal agencies. The inaugural event is scheduled to take place in Norcross on Wednesday and will be followed by a second event in Duluth on March 26. Ossoff's team has expressed a dedicated commitment to assisting constituents in navigating the complexities of federal bureaucracy. This encompasses a variety of issues, including those related to Veterans Affairs and TRICARE benefits, passports, visas, and Social Security. Residents who require assistance or wish to obtain more information are encouraged to visit Senator Ossoff's official website or directly contact his office. Additional events have been planned in other cities across Georgia throughout the month. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We'll be right back Break 2: INGLES 9   STORY 4: Georgia Power's request for more electricity comes under fire Georgia Power has submitted a request to energy regulators for permission to generate and purchase additional electricity. This move is intended to cater to the escalating demand triggered by the influx of new businesses in Georgia, notably high-tech data centers. The utility's strategy involves the rapid incorporation of new electricity sources, including gas and oil turbines, solar power, and battery storage. However, this proposal has been met with skepticism from various experts and stakeholders who have questioned both the accuracy of the utility's forecast and its continued reliance on fossil fuels. They advocate for alternative approaches such as enhancing transmission line capacity and implementing distributed solar and battery systems. Controversy has also arisen around the tax breaks currently offered to data centers. A proposed bill seeks to suspend these exemptions temporarily and establish a commission to scrutinize the locations of data centers and their energy supplies. If enacted, this suspension could inject a degree of uncertainty into the operations of data centers and potentially impact the accuracy of Georgia Power's electricity forecast. STORY 5: Georgia Gwinnett College Hosting Preview Day On March 23 Georgia Gwinnett College is set to host its Preview Day on March 23, providing potential students with an in-depth look at its programs, admission process, financial aid options, and student housing facilities. The event, scheduled to take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will feature campus tours, opportunities to engage with student ambassadors, as well as breakout sessions conducted in Spanish. In a bid to encourage applications, GGC will be waiving application fees throughout the month of March. It's worth noting that approximately 82% of students at GGC are recipients of financial aid. STORY 6: Delta Community Credit Union Accepting Entries for Youth Essay Contest Delta Community Credit Union has announced its 2024 Youth Essay Contest, open to students in the third, fourth, and fifth grades across metro Atlanta counties. The contest invites these young minds to ponder the question, "If you had unlimited money, what would you do to make an impact at your school?" Submissions are limited to 75 words and must be submitted online by March 31. The contest will award seven winners from each grade level with a $100 deposit into a Delta Community Youth Savings Account. The winners of the contest will be revealed in April, coinciding with National Youth Month. In addition to the contest, Delta Community Credit Union also offers scholarships and complimentary financial education classes to the community. STORY 7: State Senate passes bill aimed at American Library Association The Georgia Senate has passed Senate Bill 390, a legislation that prohibits libraries from allocating funds towards materials provided by the American Library Association. The bill gained approval with a vote tally of 33-20, reflecting a clear divide along party lines.   Critics, predominantly Democrats, argue that the bill detracts from efforts to enhance literacy rates in the state. However, amendments have been made to the bill to enable Valdosta State University's library sciences program to maintain its ALA certification. The bill is now slated for review by the state House.   We'll have final thoughts after this.   Break 4: HENRY CO SHERIFFS OFFICE Signoff – Thanks again for hanging out with us on today's Gwinnett Daily Post podcast. The conviction stemmed from an incident where Long forcibly carried a woman into an apartment during a domestic dispute witnessed by an off-duty Cobb County police officer. Long and the woman were in a dating relationship with a history of domestic violence. He chased her into the parking lot, wrestled her to the ground, carried her back into the apartment, and pinned her down. The woman eventually escaped using pepper spray. The jury found Long guilty based on evidence including eyewitness testimony and video footage. Long is also prohibited from contacting the victim and is banished from Cherokee County after serving his prison term. STORY 2: Lawyers Deliver Final Arguments on Motion to Disqualify Willis From Trump Case Lawyers representing former President Donald Trump and co-defendants in the Georgia election interference case sought to disqualify Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, alleging a conflict of interest due to her romantic relationship with lead prosecutor Nathan Wade. Defense argued Willis financially benefited from the relationship, impacting her impartiality. They also criticized her remarks at a Black church, accusing her of playing the "race card." Willis denied any wrongdoing, stating the relationship began after Wade's hiring. The defense questioned the validity of cellphone records showing extensive communication between Willis and Wade. The judge is expected to issue a ruling within two weeks. STORY 3: Woodstock Fire Department Deploys New Automatic External Defibrillators The Woodstock Fire Department has equipped every vehicle in its fleet with automated external defibrillators (AEDs), enhancing its emergency response capabilities. The addition of five new Zoll AEDs, funded by a national opioid settlement, aims to address the effects of the opioid crisis. Fire Chief Shane Dobson emphasized the significance of this investment in life-saving equipment, highlighting the department's ability to provide crucial Basic Life Support (BLS) during cardiac emergencies. The department, which responded to 6,817 calls for service in 2023, also provides stand-by emergency medical services for community events. Woodstock Fire Department is currently accepting applications for firefighters. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. All CCSD high schools were named 2024 AP Honor Schools by the Georgia Department of Education, showcasing outstanding student performance and participation in AP exams. Superintendent Brian Hightower praised the community's collaborative efforts in increasing access to challenging coursework and achieving academic success. The district offers 33 different AP courses, and students who earn a score of three or higher on AP exams can qualify for college credit, saving millions of dollars in tuition fees annually. Additionally, CCSD high schools received recognition in various categories such as AP STEM Achievement, AP Humanities Achievement, and AP School of Distinction Honors. State Superintendent of Schools Richard Woods commended the dedication of Georgia public education to expand opportunities for all students. STORY 5: Family and Friends Remember Laken Riley Family and friends gathered in Woodstock to honor the memory of nursing student Laken Riley, who was tragically killed while out for a run on the University of Georgia campus. Riley, a beloved member of her community and active in her church, was remembered fondly for her kindness, compassion, and faith. A private funeral service was held at Woodstock City Church, followed by her burial at Enon Cemetery. Over 1,000 people attended the visitation to pay their respects. In lieu of flowers, donations are being collected for the Laken Hope Riley Foundation, aimed at raising awareness of homicide and women's safety. The tragic incident has sparked national attention and renewed debate on immigration policies, with Governor Brian Kemp demanding action to protect citizens. José Ibarra, the suspect in Riley's murder, remains in custody.  Commercial:  HENRY CO SHERIFFS   STORY 6: INGLES – LEAH And now here is Bruce Jenkins' conversation with Leah McGrath from Ingles Markets on selling local products. In Episode 2, Mark and Jim decide to imbibe a bit before recording (as opposed to just during the recording).  The results:  We should probably do a little less pre-game hydration. If this Episode were a musical genre, it might be Improvisational Jazz--free flowing, unpredictable, and nobody really likes it.  We come to realization that nobody cares about our opinions, they just like it when we fight.  Other topics include "guilty pleasure" albums, Why Mark walked out of the movie Grease and Andy Gibb or Sean Cassidy.  Music continues to be the theme as we discuss under/overrated bands, the first time Jim saw Neil Sedaka, and a Tunnel of Love controversy.Mark almost gets us cancelled toward the end.  That was bound to happen anyway, just not so soon.  You can email us feedback or ideas for future episodes at theascertainers@gmail.com

In 1978, Gerry Rafferty was finally freed from his old record contract with his old band Stealers Wheel, which spawned the big hit Stuck In The Middle With You (which you may remember from a certain scene in Reservoir Dogs). After several years of commuting from his home in Scotland to London to deal with his legal issues, he was finally ready to offer up his first solo album in 7 years, City to City. The success he found was big and unexpected with the single Baker Street topping the charts all around the world. But this easy listening gem was not without its fair share of controversy. For years saxophonist Raphael Ravenscroft claimed he'd written the iconic bit, something Gerry vehemently denied. Also, the song was kept from the top of the Billboard chart thanks to an arrangement by Andy Gibb's management to keep his song at #1. The follow up single Right Down The Line was also a big hit and helped City to City sell over 5 million copies worldwide. Gerry never again found success like he did with this record and we honor his achievement after 45 years by reviewing this classic track by track. Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with P.P. Arnold, Renowned R&B, Soul Singer, Author, “Soul Survivor” About Harvey's guest: Today's special guest, P.P. Arnold, is a phenomenal soul singer whose lifetime of show-stopping performances, in the recording studio and on the stage, have made her a legend.   She began singing in church as a child, and at the age of four, she became lead soloist.   At the age of 17, with virtually NO show business experience, armed with only a spectacular voice and remarkable stage presence, she was hired by Ike and Tina Turner to sing and dance with them as an “Ikette”  in the “Ike and Tina Turner Review”.  While on tour in the UK with the Rolling Stones in 1966, she developed a close relationship with Mick Jagger, who persuaded her to stay in England, and record as a solo artist.   She was the first female artist to sign with Immediate Records.  With hit songs including “Everything's Gonna Be Alright”, “The First Cut is the Deepest”, “The Time Has Come”, “If You Think You're Groovy”, and everybody's favourite, “Angel of the Morning”, she became known as “The First Lady of Immediate Records”, and England's undisputed Queen of Soul.   She's had a rich, amazing five-decade career working with everyone from Mick Jagger to Rod Stewart, Roy Orbison, Eric Clapton, Barry Gibb, Peter Gabriel, Roger Waters, Paul Weller, John Cougar Mellencamp and so many more.   She sang on the original “Jesus Christ Superstar” album.  She starred in the original London production of Andrew Lloyd Weber's groundbreaking show, “Starlight Express”.   And yes, that is her voice singing with Andy Gibb on the beautiful duet, “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow”.   And if you're a Peter Gabriel fan, you can thank OUR GUEST for making his songs “Sledgehammer” and “Big Time”, so memorable.  And the same can be said of her duet with Roger Waters on the legendary song, “Perfect Sense”.    Earlier this year she released her highly anticipated memoir entitled, “Soul Survivor”, which is an intensely personal, brutally honest, compelling - and at times shocking - account of her turbulent, but always passionate life.   And she's just released her very first Christmas single, “It Won't Be Christmas Without You”, which has that soulful 60's vibe and is already becoming an instant classic. For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/ https://pparnold.com/https://www.facebook.com/pparnoldofficialhttps://instagram.com/pp_arnoldhttps://www.youtube.com/user/pparnoldangelhttps://open.spotify.com/artist/5TjpsMnYz8lxTr91olqbEhhttps://twitter.com/PPArnold1https://pparnold.lnk.to/TheNewAdventures #PParnold    #harveybrownstoneinterviews

You reach a point in your life where you finally realize, who you are is more important than what you think you're supposed to be in the world. That's when you take the stand to say, "Sorry, not sorry," and then write an amazing song about that exact subject. Drawing upon her own talent and DNA as daughter of Maurice Gibb - one third of BeeGees fame - Samantha Gibb, shares how she has come to a space where showing her true colors as a musical talent, and as an authentic person is the only way to put Good Lovin, out in the world. About Samantha Samantha was born and raised in Miami Beach, Florida and now lives in Nashville, TN. Sam's father, legendary Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees, vastly influenced her life and her music. She has said, “Growing up watching my father and my uncles really set the bar for what kind of musician and songwriter I wanted to be”. In 2004, after her father passed away, Sam partnered with Lazaro Rodriguez, creating M.E.G. Records/M.E.G. Productions (M.E.G. being the acronym for her father's initials, Maurice Ernest Gibb). “It was a way for me to keep my dad's personal studio alive and making sure the instruments would always be played.” Samantha has said. In 2007, along with her band and studio, Sam relocated to Nashville, TN. Upon arriving, Sam began to work on a music documentary called “A Nashville State of Mind”. The film was inspired by the musicians she met and the evolving music scene she encountered while living in East Nashville at that time. “A Nashville State of Mind” was accepted into over 15 film festivals and won the best international music doc in 2008 at the LA/NY International film and music festival. In 2010, her band, Samantha Gibb and The Cartel, crossed the pond for her first U.K. tour to promote her album “Wrong Side”. Later that year, they followed up with an acoustic tour of the East Coast. In February 2012, Sam performed at the Hard Rock Live in Ft. Lauderdale with her Uncle, Barry Gibb. With great success from the show, she continued to tour with her uncle on his Mythology Tour where she performed in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland and North America until 2014. In the beginning of 2015, Sam sang with again with her uncle at the Miami Beach Centennial show in Miami Beach, FL. In 2016, Sam began to work on a tribute album for her father and her uncles (Robin Gibb, Barry Gibb, and Andy Gibb), titled “The Gibb Collective”. The song titled “Please Don't Turn Out the Lights” brought together her family, including the eldest children of Barry, Maurice, Robin, and Andy. The album included covers of their music with a different style and new flavor. The album was released in 2017 for Father's Day. In 2021, she collaborated with award winning country singer-songwriter Kyle Jacobs on her single, “Spiraling" and later that year she released “Christmas in a Small Town” which she wrote with Kyle Jacobs and another award winning songwriter, Tony Wood. In July of this year she released her newest singles “Good Lovin'” and followed up with “Sorry, Not Sorry” at the end of September. Samantha's writing is unique and has a versatile musical sound that blends perfectly with her sultry vocals. We're back to paranormal romance this week — and so excited! It's been literal years since we've done a deep dive like this one, talking about a beloved, long-standing, many booked, series — Nalini Singh's Psy Changeling series. We're deep diving on Caressed by Ice, which features a hero who literally experiences physical pain whenever he feels a feeling, so…of course he's Jen's favorite. We talk paranormal world building, patriarchy, hero's feeling feelings, and try to explain the universe of this book. We're not great at it, but there is about 20 minutes of bantr, so you'll be fine! There's still time to buy the Fated Mates Best of 2021 Book Pack from our friends at Old Town Books in Alexandria, VA, and get eight of the books on the list, a Fated Mates sticker and other swag! Thank you, as always, for listening! If you are up for leaving a rating or review for the podcast on your podcasting app, we would be very grateful! We are going to set some wild intentions for 2022 with our first read-along of the year, Lisa Valdez's Passion, an erotic historical published in 2005 that is W-I-L-D. There is a lot of biblical stuff at the world's fair. Also some truly bananas stuff that…sticks with you. We haven't read it in a while, so we're telling you to be careful because…honestly, it's just good sense with this one. Get it at Amazon, Apple, Kobo, or B&N.Show NotesCaressed by Ice is the third book in the Psy/Changling series by Nalini Singh.
