Dave Kane played in Erie from 1965-1975. He is a professional pianist and composer of both jazz and classical music and has performed with many famous jazz artists as well as with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony, and the Twentieth Century Consort. In addition, he has composed hundreds of film and TV scores. Thanks to the JPT Foundation for sponsoring the Erie Music History podcast. The goal of the foundation is to provide education scholarships to grade school-age children as well as annual giving to local organizations and charities. The foundation has a large hall that hosts bingo four days a week and is available for rentals, and it is also the home of this podcast's monthly music night, which is the first Tuesday of the month from 6-9. Many thanks to the folks (like Angelo Phillips!) who have donated to the podcast. If you would like to help out, Venmo me at @Dan-Schell-6. Dave Kane (born January 26, 1948) is an American radio talk show host, comedian, performance artist, and author. Kane was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and currently still makes his home in the Ocean State. Nicknamed "The Pitbull of comedy" in the 1980s during his time as a stand-up comedian, Kane is known for his passionate, sometimes confrontational style of talk radio, urging people to stand up for what they believe in and to take action in the face of injustice. One of Kane's oft-spoken phrases is the well known quote, often attributed to Irish philosopherEdmund Burke, "All that is necessary for evil to exist is for good people to do nothing." In addition to his strong viewpoints about current local and national issues, his radio show, dubbed "Kane and Company", also features Kane's self-deprecating style of humor liberally peppered throughout. Conflict between Kane and his callers is commonplace, with some of the more vociferous people attaining the level of "Prisoner." This is a title Kane reserves for the most antagonistic callers who consistently claim to hate his show, but who feel compelled to keep listening and/or calling back to argue. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/cindy-gilman/support
Dave Kane joins us this week. He was part of the Periwinkles crew in the early RI comedy scene. Known for his aggressive style. Dave developed two very popular shows Misgivings and Jokes My Irish Father Told Me, that are still popular today. Tragedy struck when he lost his son in the Station Nightclub fire. Coinsidences became signs that gave his family hope. This led to the book 41 Signs Of Hope and the documentary 41: The Movie. Check out Dave at https://davekane.net/

Today on the IC-DISC Show, we're talking with Dave Kane, President of 21st Century Programming, a software company that creates programs for scrap recyclers to run and improve their business. Dave's name will be familiar to many in the scrap metal business, but even if you're in a different industry, this is an interesting episode because of 21st Century's approach to developing software based on the needs of their clients. I really enjoyed this conversation looking at the history of the company, how customers requirements and expectations have changed over the years, and we also had the chance to discuss a new collaboration between Export Advisors and 21st Century Programming to help scrap exporters quickly identify the tax savings they could achieve from an IC-DISC. This is a great episode that really highlights the opportunity to create a win for your clients by removing any friction. Series 1, episode 1 covers the work of three bands - Strange Believers, Extension 54 & Sway. Host Dean Vernals is ‘in conversation' with singer Pete Marshall, who is the link between all three, and guitarist Dave Kane who played in two of them. Strange Believers were formed in August 1985 and played their first gig at the Hare & Hounds in November of that year. More sold out gigs soon followed at venues such as the Barrel Organ and the Dog & Partridge and they recorded a number of demos at Rich Bitch studios. We hear all about their days on the Birmingham music circuit, as well as a ‘Spinal Tap' style split after a tour of Sweden. After leaving Strange Believers, Pete went on to sing for Extension 54 before being reunited with Dave in Sway. They have also dusted off old demo tapes and selected tracks from all three bands to play.

DAVE KANE: "If you don’t know Dave Kane, you’ll never forget his afterlife connection with his son, Nicky, after watching this early Afterlife TV episode. Dave’s story will make you aware of the many ways your own departed loved ones might be trying to send you a message. In 2003, a fire erupted in a Rhode Island nightclub called The Station claiming 100 lives. The youngest victim was an 18-year-old actor, writer and musician named Nicholas O'Neill, known as Nicky. Following Nicky's tragic passing, a string of messages, signs and signals from the other side began flowing into the lives of those who loved and survived him. Subsequently, a documentary and book have been made to tell his story. "This interview with Nicky's father, Dave Kane, is a discussion of those miracles that brought hope and light into the hearts of the grieving. I present this episode for two reasons: One, for those of you who have lost loved ones but have not yet recognized any signs from spirit, and Two, for those of you who share extraordinary stories like this one. For the latter, hearing another's story can help you to feel the confirmation that such signs of the afterlife are real, and they allow you to share the comfort that these messages from spirit provide the grieving." ~ Bob Olson, Afterlife TV http://www.afterlifetv.com Dave Kane discusses the signs that taught him that life and love continues in the afterlife.
