Sydney rock outfit Dear Seattle epitomize the current wave of emerging Australian bands. With a distinctive Aussie tinge to their emotive and propulsive wares, Dear Seattle first emerged onto the scene back in 2013, releasing their debut EP Words Are Often Useless that same year. Following a second EP release, 2017's self-titled Dear Seattle, the Northern Beaches-hailing group solidified their presence with their first ever full-length album Don't Let Go in 2019, also securing the group a #10 spot on the ARIA Australian Album Charts.Unleashing their powerful sophomore album Someday in 2022, Dear Seattle expanded their legacy to even greater heights, with Someday debuting at #4 on the ARIA Australian Album Charts, a Spotlight Album feature on triple j, and Rolling Stone declaring that "Dear Seattle is born again".But with success comes greater responsibility (or something like that), and Dear Seattle are certainly under the microscope of public and media scrutiny as they prepare to unleash their third album Toy this Friday, January 27. Not that you would know it.Four of the six album launch parties Dear Seattle hosted around the country in the lead up to Christmas were sold out, not a bad effort in a time where crowds and the music industry in general have basically come to a stand still. With four shows left to complete the tour - the first of which will be in Canberra this Thursday - focus now switches to Friday's release of Toy.Will it live up to the hype? Will it live up to the expectation? Will Toy make Dear Seattle bigger than Nirvana? HEAVY caught up with frontman Brae Fisher to find out the answers to these questions and more."We've just done a few interviews before this, and it's so nice to chat about the album and kind of let everyone in on the process of what we've been doing for the last two years or so," he enthused. "I'm super excited. All the lead-up has been great. The energy's good. The shows have been awesome. I couldn't be more stoked."In the full interview, Brae talks more about Dear Seattle's new album Toy, what to expect musically, the process of deciding which tracks make it onto the album, the importance of growing musically while still staying true to your musical DNA, the singles released and how they represent the album as a whole, the nostalgic truth behind the album title, their remaining album launch shows and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

We sent our resident rock dog Chris Neave along to the Hockey Fields tour at Enmore Theatre in Sydney. Here's how it went! Dear Seattle: Kicking off with Anthemic Tracks The night opened with Sydney's very own Dear Seattle from the northern beaches. With their anthemic tracks and powerful hooks, they effortlessly ignited the atmosphere, captivating the sold-out crowd from the very beginning to the last note of their set. The all-ages audience was already familiar with their music, evident from the enthusiastic singalongs to favorites like "Daytime TV." Dear Seattle set the stage for an electrifying evening. Ruby Fields: A Charismatic Dream Come True The spotlight then turned to Ruby Fields, who proved herself to be an exceptionally charismatic performer. Her band's tight chemistry coupled with her magnetic presence held the audience in the palm of her hand. As she confessed that performing at the Enmore Theatre was a dream come true, the crowd cheered in support. Ruby's live renditions of hits such as "Dinosaurs," "Ritalin," and "Song About A Boy" transcended the studio versions, leaving fans in awe of her talent and energy. Hockey Dad: Surf Rock Infused Anthems That Soared Taking the stage as the night's headliner, Hockey Dad faced the challenge of following two remarkable acts. However, they did so with finesse and style, delivering their signature surf rock-infused anthems that had the crowd singing along to every word. Tracks like "Join The Club" sent the energy levels soaring, raising the Enmore Theatre's roof to new heights. When Ruby Fields joined them onstage for a memorable collaboration, the night reached its pinnacle of euphoria. A Massive Success: The Hockey Fields Tour The combination of Ruby Fields and Hockey Dad proved to be an absolute hit. The Hockey Fields tour exemplified the vibrancy and creativity that continues to define the indie rock scene in Australia. From the mesmerizing performances to the heartwarming connection with the audience, it was evident that the night was a tremendous success for both artists and the fans. TLDRAs Chris reported from the Enmore Theatre, the Hockey Fields tour showcased the vitality of indie rock in Australia. From Dear Seattle's anthemic openers to Ruby Fields' charismatic dreams fulfilled, and Hockey Dad's roof-raising surf rock anthems, it was an evening filled with passion and talent. This event is a testament to the thriving music scene in the country and an exciting indication that great young live bands are still being produced in Australia.MORE DETAILS: https://articles.listnr.com/music/hockey-fields-review/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We had the pleasure of interviewing Eliza & The Delusionals from the House of Blues in San Diego! *This interview was recorded prior to the COVID-19 pandemic* Eliza & The Delusionals have never been afraid to think big. “The goal has always been to play huge shows,” says singer-guitarist Eliza Klatt, who founded the Northern New South Wales/Gold Coast band in 2015. Over the past few years that dream has slowly become a reality as the group’s sweetly snarling, anthemic brand of indie rock has led to supports with artists such as Grinspoon, Nothing But Thieves, Dear Seattle and Killing Heidi, appearances at landmark festivals such as BIGSOUND, Falls Festival and Canadian Music Week, and major radio support both locally and internationally. After a slew of well-received early singles, the band’s climb was kickstarted in earnest by 2017 debut EP The Deeper End. A potent mix of buzz-saw guitars, ear-worm melodies and Klatt’s undeniable vocal hooks, singles such as “Salt” instantly caught the attention of national broadcaster triple j. “We’re just writing songs we want to hear ourselves,” says guitarist Kurt Skuse. “You hear us in our purest form in our writing.” Skuse and Klatt go back years, living down the street from each other as kids. They reconnected in the Gold Coast’s thriving band scene, with Skuse joining alongside guitarist Ashley Martin, a friend of Klatt’s at university, to solidify the line up. The extended periods on the road since have acted as a steep learning curve, while fusing the band into a tightly-wound live unit. "We learned how to put our live set and show together through the experience of watching bigger-scale bands do it” says Klatt. You can hear that experience in recent singles “Pull Apart Heart” and “Just Exist”, the first taste of the group’s forthcoming second EP. The latter in particular introduces a more mature subtlety to their sound, with Klatt ruminating on finding a balance between creativity and good mental health against a slowly building and insistent melody. The song has connected in a big way, particularly in the United States and Canada, with Alt Nation – the flagship alternative rock channel of SiriusXM – crowning it their ‘Critical Cut’ and adding “Just Exist” to high rotation. The listeners responded in kind, voting it Number 1 on the Weekly ALT18 countdown, where it remained in the Top 10 for more than a month. The flow on effect has been remarkable, with more than a dozen stations across America – including national network Music Choice and influential outlets in New York, California, Texas and Florida – adding “Just Exist”. The band’s Spotify listenership has jumped by nearly 100% overall and a whopping 400+% in America, while “Just Exist” has exceeded 600,000 streams. Recently crowned Amazon’s Music’s “Weekly One” and “Song of the Week” in the States, the band’s Shazams have also surged by more than 900%. Having signed with renowned US agency APA for North America, the doors are well and truly starting to open for Eliza & The Delusionals internationally. On the eve of Bar Bands' fifth birthday* (*not really) and David's 30th* (*also not really), a diverse but elite crew of Australian musicians descended upon The Vanguard in Sydney for a night of storytelling, song-sharing and top-tier banter. This is the first of two episodes recorded that night, which sees the inimitable Alex the Astronaut, L-FRESH the LION and Dear Seattle's Brae Fisher coming together for a wholly unique and entertaining panel. Criss-crossing across their entire respective careers, we find plenty of intersections along the way - as well as plenty of laughs. Special thanks to Mel Cheng, Ash Maher, Chris Sheppard and Roly Elias. Recorded live at The Vanguard in Sydney on October 25, 2020. Mixed and engineered live by Anieke Robinson. Brae Fisher from Dear Seattle joins us this week to chat two of his favourite albums from two of Britain's biggest bands - 'The Bends' by Radiohead and 'Parachutes' by Coldplay! A damn fine chat with some damn average tattoo ideas.
Violent Soho are back baby and they've got a brand new album under their belts which they're keen to show off to all of the supporters who have helped them along the way in their 18 year career as a band. Guitarist James Tidswell joins the show this week to chat all about Everything Is A-Ok getting released at a time when everything in the world is pretty much the complete opposite to the album's title and the band's progression and (for lack of a better word) maturing sound on the new release. He also shares a very special moment he had on last year's Good Things Festival run when he got the opportunity to meet his musical idol and inspiration Mark Hoppus and the wholesome AF encounter his daughter had with the icon, on stage, during their set in Brisbane. Grab the tissues, it's pretty good! Podcast host Browny tries his best to lift the spirits of those of us in lockdown while this dreaded coronavirus strips us of our fun and free time by getting on a bunch of classic tracks of yesteryear from Nirvana, Hole, blink-182, Vast and Smashing Pumpkins as well as showing off the new breed of Australian alt-rock bands keen to take over including Dear Seattle, LOSER, Sly Withers and Being Jane Lane. #WoSUATW #ViolentSoho #JamesTidswell #AustralianBands #SlyWithers #LOSER #DearSeattle #blink182 #MarkHoppus #BeingJaneLane #Nirvana #Hole #SmashingPumkins #Grunge #AltRock #Dregg #MusicPodcast #WallOfSoundAU

As far as punk/rockabilly infused acts go, **From Parts Unknown** may be relatively unknown to the majority of the world, but it's only a matter of time before the masses jump on board and witness the calibre these lads have between them. Hailing from Dallas, Texas the boys recently released their **_Trucker Speed EP_**, which at only three songs long, serves as a filler between the band's first album **_Bruiser_** and their forthcoming release, which is still in the works. Frontman/Guitarist **Ben** **McCracken** joins **Browny** as this week's podcast co-host to introduce his band to Australian audiences (and the rest of the world) and express his profound love for our very own exports, **The Living End**. McCracken also delves into Dallas' live music scene and explains how it managed to come back from the ruins where bands and touring promoters would skip their city in favour of more supportive states, an issue we're currently plagued with in Australia. Can we learn a thing or two ourselves from the way they got out of it? Ben thinks so and offers up advice for those stuck in those cities lacking tours. There's also throwbacks on the playlist from **Grinspoon**, **Garbage**, **Spiderbait** and **The Living End** + New Music galore from **Parkway** **Drive**, **Shinedown**, **Dear** **Seattle**, **PAGAN** and **Sevendust**. #WoSUATW #FromPartsUnknown #BenMcCracken #Punk #Rockabilly #PunkRock #TheLivingEnd #MusicPodcast #Grinspoon #Garbage #Shinedown #DearSeattle #ViolentSoho #Spiderbait #PAGAN #ParkwayDrive #HeavyMetal #Metalcore #Sevendust #AustralianBands #Podcast #WallOfSoundAU

Join podcast host **Browny** as he discusses with **Dan Searle** & **Sam Carter** from **Architects** how they've coped following the passing of their former bandmate (and brother) **Tom Searle** and how they intend to keep his memory and legacy alive. **Joel** **Birch** from **The Amity Affliction** chats about turning his mental illness and struggles with depression and anxiety into music which helps his army of fans and how their new album will be completely different to what they've done in the past. **Jenna McDougall** from **Tonight** **Alive** opens up about the backlash the band received following their last album **_Limitless_** and how they've moved on with their latest release **_Underworld _**and we grill **Audie** **Franks** from **Introvert** about his High School life with a little bit of inside information from a fellow Wall of Sound staff member including his emo phase and why he was dubbed the "Sunglasses Wanker'.
