ExxonMobil forecasts 2050 Oil demand be the same as today. We believe that they are just “talking their books.”To discuss the future of the Energy system as well as the fight against Climate Change, we bring in a very respected expert and friend of the show: Kingsmill Bond, Energy Strategist at RMI. Kingsmill has been digging deep into the data and has realized that the fossil fuel cohort simply cannot fathom the speed of the Energy Transition.Gerard and Laurent have a lengthy debate about the trends, the adoption of clean energy, not only in the OECD, but also what is now referred as the “Global South” and deliver an optimist message about the future. In the present, the pessimists always sound smarter, but in the long-term optimists are always right.------- RMI is a global NGO transforming the global energy system to secure a clean, prosperous, zero-carbon future for all.RMI: https://rmi.org/the-world-re-energized/RMI report: https://rmi.org/insight/the-cleantech-revolution/Nick Eyre work: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s12053-021-09982-9?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email

In this episode, our guest argues that not only is the energy transition happening, it's happening faster and more profoundly that you can imagine…and it's being led by China. The ‘age of renewables' will be very different than the ‘age of carbon' and the same forecasting assumptions do not apply. The energy transition is being driven by technology, economics, geo-strategy and, of-course, necessity. And the data proves it. Our guest is Kingsmill Bond, Senior Principal at the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI). Kingsmill's latest analysis is available in the link in the show notes. https://rmi.org/wp-content/uploads/dlm_uploads/2024/06/RMI-Cleantech-Revolution-pdf.pdf

What does it take to discover your true purpose for being here? In this episode of From Survivor to Thriver, we sat down with Colin Kingsmill who found a tremendous amount of success and wealth only to give it all away and leave that lifestyle behind to honor his mental health. Colin shares his story and how he went on a spiritual journey and, through several modalities including meditation and mindfulness practices, found his crystal clear purpose for being here. He also shares the evolution of his relationships and his view of the world since making this profound shift and rediscovering his own humanity. In 2001, with an MBA and a successful decade in Swiss banking behind him, Colin Kingsmill decided to make a radical reset, give up most of his possessions and perceived status, and step into the unknown. However, on the flip side of all the shiny stuff, he has also suffered the hardships of divorce and personal bankruptcy, depression, and crippling anxiety. Today, with all this life and work experience behind him, Colin now coaches, advises, and mentors extraordinary individuals making important changes in their personal and professional lives and provides a space for business owners to talk strategically through their pivot plans and fears as they grapple with the challenges of today's world. I hope you'll walk away from our conversation feeling inspired, challenged, and motivated as we learn from his wealth of wisdom and experience. We discussed: How being open to opportunities vs. fixating on a destination changed Colin's world The power of moments in time where we need to reevaluate everything How to start listening to what our bodies are telling us Recognizing the indicators of not living with your integrity Identifying the narratives that serve you and the ones that deplete your energy What it means to be embodied (and why it matters) Connect with Colin www.colinkingsmill.com Colin on Instagram Colin on LinkedIn

Today, as the founding partner of Whole Human Coaching, Colin is on a mission to help people discover their humanity to change the world. He shares how letters from his late mother started his journey into uncovering unrecognized early childhood trauma. He describes how he began working on his trauma through therapy and studying and discusses his road to spiritual awakening. Colin also discusses how he is drawing from his personal experiences to help younger people who tend to make decisions through the lens of earlier childhood trauma. “Watch and be aware of the coping mechanisms in your day-to-day life. Thoughts on Breathing My only thought is, I don't think we get taught enough about how important it is. And that's why we're here. But we forgot. We get distracted, and we take it for granted that we can always have it. I had an anaphylactic shock once, and luckily it was in a medical situation. But when she said you are not breathing, it's incredibly tough. And you recognize at that moment that, oh, look at what I'm taking advantage of or taking for granted. It was interesting because the first one lasted about three years of awful treatment and accepting it. And I don't know why I accepted it. But I was in this situation for three years, with management that was really awful by any standard. I left that, and I went to do something else. Another project. And I immediately recognized that this was a similar situation. And, because I had started to be more mindful and more aware and listening to myself and just more attentive because of the previous experience. The second experience where bullying and absolute toxicity were present, I retracted and pulled myself out of that situation as fast as I could. We wanted to start a bit of a book club here on the Ireland on the Fly podcast to discuss the best Irish fly fishing books and so, for this the 50th show, we're beginning with an episode on Kingsmill Moore's A Man May Fish, the seminal work on fly fishing in Ireland. To help us give context and background to Kingsmill Moore, we spoke to Patrick Gageby, a barrister and fly angler who also co-wrote the foreword to an edition of O'Gorman's The Practice of Angling in Ireland. Patrick reveals some fascinating first-hand insights about Kingsmill Moore and the places he fished as well as how Moore's background and legal career helped influence his writing of the book. Does Putin's invasion mark the end of the Fossil Fuel Era? In this week's episode we look at how the Russian invasion in Ukraine and subsequent energy crises are impacting energy deals between developed and developing countries ahead of COP27. We also subject our guest, Kingsmill Bond of RMI, to a round of Paul's new painfully-condescending evil oil baron persona as we put his optimistic assertions on the green energy transition to the test. In Northern Ireland's troubled past there have been hundreds of atrocities and thousands of lives lost - but one 24-hour period stands out as the most brutal of all. Forty five years ago this week, unprecedented slaughter visited a small corner of south Armagh and left its mark forever on both the landscape and the lives of those left behind. First, was the brutal murder of the Catholic Reavey brothers, John Martin and Brian, just 24 and 22-years-old when they were gunned down in their family home. Their 17-year-old brother, Anthony, catastrophically injured in the ambush, would die weeks later. The attack was carried out by the notorious 'Glennanne Gang', made up of rogue police and army officers working in collusion with loyalist terrorists in a sick bid to ethnically cleanse the catholic population. Twenty minutes after the ambush, in a co-ordinated attack, three members of the O'Dowd family were slaughtered in their home in nearby County Down by a UVF hit team. But that wasn't the end of the killings. Within 24 hours of the murders, a suspected IRA terror mob carried out the shocking Kingsmill massacre of 10 innocent protestant textile workers and one more who miraculously survived. So what is the legacy of such appalling events and after four-and-a-half decades is the British government's plans for a Troubles amnesty a line in the sand or an outrage to those still seeking justice? Nicola Tallant and Sunday World colleague Hugh Jordan visit peace campaigner Eugene Reavey, as he recalls the dreadful events that visited his life and they consider the stark reality that some scars will never heal.

It was 5.30 in the evening, and sixteen textile workers were in a minibus on their way home from the factory they worked at. Four workers got out at Whitecross and the bus continued on before being flagged down and stopped by a man in a combat uniform. They asked which of the workers were Catholics and the one Catholic man made himself known. He was told to "Get down the road and don't look back". On that fateful evening, the remaining 11 protestant workers who were still on the bus would not be making it home.SOURCES:Article about the massacre:https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/imported/blood-in-the-rain-28255886.htmlArticle about Kingsmill memorial being attacked:https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-northern-ireland-20573217BBC article from the archives: http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/january/5/newsid_2500000/2500393.stmCAIN Photo of a memorial:https://cain.ulster.ac.uk/victims/memorials/static/photos/408.htmlArticle about Sinn Fein rejecting findings of CAIN report: https://sluggerotoole.com/2011/06/22/sinn-fein-rejects-het-findings-on-kingsmill-massacre/Article about the families campaign for the truth:https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-northern-ireland-13871535Human kindness and heroism shine out from North’s Kingsmill atrocity:https://www.irishtimes.com/news/politics/human-kindness-and-heroism-shine-out-from-north-s-kingsmill-atrocity-1.1858395Interview with Alan Black the sole survivor of the massacre, during a chance, encounter on the street. The reporter didn't know who he was and was asking random people on the street about Brexit:https://youtu.be/txcnmz_qiKIArticle regarding the palm print:https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/kingsmill-massacre-man-will-not-be-prosecuted-over-palm-print-1.2969511Account of Alan Black during inquest:https://www.irishtimes.com/news/crime-and-law/courts/coroner-s-court/victim-of-kingsmill-massacre-cried-for-his-mother-inquest-told-1.2660388Alan Black RTE Interview:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0RRm36vdhU&ab_channel=RTERadio1A documentary about the Glenanne Ganghttps://youtu.be/LUjC5xJrmLk See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The government’s long delayed full response to the online harms white paper will be published today. New rules will be introduced for tech firms which allow users to post their own content. Firms who fail to protect people face fines of up to ten percent of turnover or the blocking of their sites. Popular platforms will be held responsible for tackling both legal and illegal harms and all platforms will have a duty of care to protect children using their services from being exposed to harmful content. Jane Garvey talks to the Minister in charge of steering the bill through the House of Commons Caroline Dinenage. Food historian Pen Vogler, author of Scoff, puts our eating habits under a microscope and reveals how they are loaded with centuries of class prejudice. As she says, "most Brits could read a shopping basket as though it were a character sketch: Typhoo or Earl Grey, Kingsmill or sourdough". If, she says, we spent less time scoffing at other people's eating habits and more time thinking about how everyone could have the same access to good food, then maybe Britain's reputation for bad food could be a thing of the past. The way we understand and talk about climate change has shifted dramatically in the past couple of years. To discuss why, Jane speaks to three women from this year's Power List - physicist and climate researcher Prof Joanna Haigh; one of the leads from the Climate Assembly Prof Rebecca Willis; and Guardian Environment Correspondent Fiona Harvey.
