Welcome back to the greatest indie tournament coverage pod on the Internet, Nattering BOLA. As always, we are sponsored and on the Visionaries Global Media Network, along with every other iteration of Nattering With E. Oh yeah, so I'm Eric Freeds, and I'm joined by my good pal and perhaps Jagged Little Pill David Bauer aka Bauerhausen no relation to Jack or Court Bauer. So, without further ado let us begin night two of the 2017 Battle Of Los Angeles, brought to you by Alanis Morissette, Sharon, Lois and Bram, and Dave Meltzer:
Welcome back to the best Indie Wrestling Tournament Podcast of all time, Nattering BOLA. After the dastardly Marty Scurll won the 2016 Battle Of Los Angeles, he would face PWG World Champion Zack Sabre Jr. at Mystery Vortex IV. Zack Sabre Jr. would retain in a match that Bauerhausen and I both agreed was a little long for what it needed to be. Today, however, we're hopping into our DeLorean DMC-12 as your hosts, Doc Bauerhausen and Marty McFreeds, travel to the American Legion Post #308 for the 2017 Battle Of Los Angeles! Our car will be parked all of Labor Day weekend 2017 outside the American Legion, while our shows will be broadcast over the next month back at the Visionaries Global Media's Nattering With E Studios.
The "Battle of Los Angeles" in 1942, also known as the Great Los Angeles Air Raid, was a false alarm where anti-aircraft artillery fired on an object in the sky, later determined to be a weather balloon or possibly a UFO, rather than a Japanese attack.
On the night of February 25, 1942, less than three months after Pearl Harbor, Los Angeles was gripped by fear as air raid sirens wailed and a total blackout stretched to the Mexican border. Powerful arc lamps lit up the sky, and anti-aircraft guns fired wildly as reports of enemy aircraft flooded in — some claiming planes crashed down across the city, though no wreckage was found. Even military leaders couldn't agree on what had happened. Some dismissing it as a false alarm, while others insisted non-U.S. aircraft were present. Eyewitnesses, including trained military observers, described seeing strange, slow-moving objects — one even shaped like a butterfly — and estimating anywhere from 1 to 25 of these aircraft. Decades later, declassified documents suggested the military misled the public, with one army chief allegedly reporting to President Roosevelt that the craft were likely of interplanetary origin. This week, we travel back to 1942 to sift through the conflicting reports, from that night and beyond, to help theorize the true nature of the so-called "Battle of Los Angeles." Visit our website for a lot more information on this episode.

As two lifelong wrestling fans and pals, Bauerhausen, aka David Bauer, and Eric, aka Nattering With E, take on the task of watching every Pro Wrestling Guerilla Battle of Los Angeles. Starting in 2003, BOLA was one of several tournaments that PWG would run, which pretty much made them the best of the indies from the mid-2000s until they went on hiatus in 2023. For this MONTHLY podcast, the duo will be watching every Battle of Los Angeles from 2013 to 2021. Many people would say that mid-2000s indie promotions like PWG, Chikara, and, of course, Ring of Honor set the stage for All Elite Wrestling. What Is The Battle Of Los Angeles Set as a 16-person tournament, with the winner getting a PWG World Championship match, we opted to start in 2013 as it coincides with ROH Revelery, one of our favorite podcasts. Also, for some reason, every tournament from 2011 - 2021 is on Highspots, but nothing earlier. As always we're sponsored and proud members of the Visionaries Global Media. You can catch this and all of the Nattering shows on Wednesdays and Thursdays on VGM and the Nattering E Network!

On the evening of February 24, 1942, an anti-aircraft barrage of more than 1,440 rounds is launched at what is initially thought to be a Japanese aerial attack on the City of Angels. Five civilians die – three from traffic accidents spawned by the chaos and two from heart attacks. What, if anything, is being fired upon remains a mystery. Theories include weather balloons, UFOs, birds, or just jitters by Angelenos with Pearl Harbor still a fresh memory and, even fresher, a Japanese submarine torpedoing a Santa Barbara oil field on February 23. Regardless of cause, air raid sirens first blare at 7:18 p.m. Thousands of air raid wardens go to their posts throughout Los Angeles County. That alert is lifted at 10:23 p.m. Tensions ease. Then, after midnight, all hell breaks loose. Follow the Madness on Social Media! In 1942, just months after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, tensions were high all along the west coast. Might the Japanese invade California? It sure seemed like a possibility. After a submarine surfaced and shot at a nearby oil well, the city of Los Angeles was on alert. In the early morning hours of February 25th, something caused numerous stations to fire anti-aircraft guns toward the sky. Was it the Japanese army? Alien Invaders? A spy balloon? We may never know. Wow we're already just about at the end of our time with Rage! This week we're talking about the band's final full-length, THE BATTLE OF LOS ANGELES. It's packed with mega bangers and some of their best material. Also a little catch up on Jake's vacation and talking about seeing movies for a full-time job...
Less than three months after the attacks on Pearl Harbor, sightings of enemy submarines and aircraft off the coast of California culminated in an air raid and blackout being ordered for the city of Los Angeles. The Battle of Los Angeles, also known as the Great Los Angeles Air Raid, ensued and 1,400 rounds of anti-aircraft artillery were launched at "enemy airplanes". When the smoke cleared, it appeared there had been no enemy attack at all. What had people seen and what had the armed forces fired at? Sources cited within episode

SKIP TO 00:16:00 TO GET TO THIS WEEK'S STORY Shortly after 2am on February 25, 1942, air raid sirens pierced the skies of Los Angeles, California and frightened citizens braced for an attack by the Japanese. Bombs exploded around the city, shrapnel careened through houses and garages, and there were even reports of Japanese paratroopers descending over downtown along with an airplane crashing at a popular intersection in Hollywood. By daylight, however, citizens were shocked to walk out of their homes to find nothing: no Japanese ships lay off the coast, no downed enemy aircraft were found, and no enemy bomb damage was reported. Those who lived through the ordeal are adamant — they KNOW what they saw: an alien space craft hovering in the sky, unaffected by American anti-aircraft shells. As usual, the government denies that the whole kerfuffle was caused by anything more than a misplaced weather balloon *yawn*. (1942's Battle of Los Angeles) *** Located in the middle of the historic section of Glenwood Cemetery in Mississippi is a grave surrounded by chain links which caretakers are cautious to never allow to break or come loose – for the results might be tragic to those living within the town. (The Chained Witch) *** Annie Goodwin had been living with the family of John Traphagen for the last two years, but now she was missing – and a conversation overheard by a man indicated something gruesome may have happened at the hands of her very own doctor.
