Waarom schamen we ons toch zo snel? In de 80e aflevering van Generatie Vrouw praten Noraly Beyer (79), Roos Schlikker (50) en Eva Breda (28) over ‘cringe’.Support the show: https://libelle.nl/generatievrouwSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Another one of those mindbending discussions between Jennifer, myself and folks offstage. In this podcast, we began talking about our previous week, which included Jennifer getting a flat tire at a wedding in Utah. That led to a conversation about a dream I had the night before, where my old mentor Fred Roos (prolific producer, Oscar winner) showed up - and I asked Fred some questions about a documentary that he's appearing in - that hasn't been released yet, but premiered at the Venice film festival last night. When I refer to Mike, I'm referring to the director of that film, when I refer to Ellie, I'm referring to a film director and author who appears in the film (which Jennifer couldn't know) and the questions I ask her are based on my friendship with her since we met in the 1980's. A generous and very profound person while on the planet. The reference to life being like an "electric toothbrush going off" when someone dies, came from her husband. And my questions about that quote were meant for those who would understand who that might be, and why I might ask it. Everyone who has been on the planet is available. They may take time to get back to us, but we can ask them questions, ask them for help, ask them to participate in our journey. Harry Dean Stanton is someone that Ellie knew well, and Fred knew well, and for those familiar with the podcast, we interviewed the great uber skeptic when he passed, and that conversation is in the film HACKING THE AFTERLIFE on Amazon Prime or Gaia. Harry tells us to tell people to "believe in the POSSIBILITY of an afterlife, so then they won't waste another minute of their lives arguing about it like I did." And he did. Anyone who knew him knows that to be the case. Podcast wraps up with an appearance by Prince (I asked Amelia Earhart who impressed her on the flipside) - and he does show up a lot when I ask that question. And Jennifer reminds me that I'm going to be on COAST TO COAST WITH GEORGE NOORY talking about the new book SHE WAS NEVER LOST; THE AMELIA EARHART SAGA - which isn't just talking to her via mediums (there is that) but also new information that shows many people saw her before she left the stage entirely - 7 years after her disappearance. Enjoy.
Zoals Noraly zegt: “What about wierook?” Support the show: https://libelle.nl/generatievrouwSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Offering a fresh perspective on the influence of the American southwest—and particularly West Texas—on the New York art world of the 1950s, Three Women Artists: Expanding Abstract Expressionism in the American West (Texas A&M UP, 2022) aims to establish the significance of itinerant teaching and western travel as a strategic choice for women artists associated with traditional centers of artistic authority and population in the eastern United States. The book is focused on three artists: Elaine de Kooning, Jeanne Reynal, and Louise Nevelson. In their travels to and work in the High Plains, they were inspired to innovate their abstract styles and introduce new critical dialogues through their work. These women traveled west for the same reason artists often travel to new places: they found paid work, markets, patrons, and friends. This Middle American context offers us a “decentered” modernism—demanding that we look beyond our received truths about Abstract Expressionism. Authors Amy Von Lintel and Bonnie Roos demonstrate that these women's New York avant-garde, abstract styles were attractive to Panhandle-area ranchers, bankers, and aspiring art students. Perhaps as importantly, they show that these artists' aesthetics evolved in light of their regional experiences. Offering their work as a supplement and corrective to the frameworks of patriarchal, East Coast ethnocentrism, Von Lintel and Roos make the case for Texas as influential in the national art scene of the latter half of the twentieth century. Kirstin L. Ellsworth has a Ph.D. in the History of Art from Indiana University and is Associate Professor of Art History at California State University Dominguez Hills. Originally uploaded July 24th, reloaded August 14th. Jeffrey Mosher welcomes Phil Roos, Director of EGLE, Michigan's Department of Environment, Great Lakes And Energy, Lansing, MI The EGLE team recently visited Kalamazoo to tour brownfield sites. Before we get into the specifics, what is brownfield redevelopment and why does it matter? You toured the Harrison Circle site and River's Edge site. Can you talk about what makes each of these special? EGLE works with more communities than just Kalamazoo on brownfield development. Can you talk about the impact the program is having statewide? After the tour, Director Roos led a roundtable discussion with local leaders discussing the impacts of these projects, the importance of state and local partnerships and future opportunities for brownfield redevelopment across Kalamazoo and Southwest Michigan. “Investing in the redevelopment of brownfield sites is not just about cleaning up the past. It is about creating a brighter future for our communities, our economy and the environment,” said EGLE Director Phil Roos. “Projects like Harrison Circle and River's Edge show how strategic cleanup efforts can turn once-contaminated properties into affordable housing and community assets. We remain committed to continuing this vital work across the state, ensuring every Michigan community with contaminated properties has the opportunity to benefit from these investments.” Once contaminated with metals, solvents and petroleum from a multitude of former uses, including an auto repair and a heat-treating facility, the River's Edge property along the Kalamazoo River is being transformed into affordable housing. With help from a $1 million grant from EGLE, the $55 million development will feature two four-story apartment buildings, 224 rental units, a community center and a leasing office. Tenants are expected to begin moving in next year. State Representative Julie Rogers, who represents Kalamazoo in the legislature, also attended the roundtable. "As a former member of the Kalamazoo County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority Board for over a decade, I've witnessed the rehabilitation of many contaminated industrial sites that we have been able to redevelop into prime commercial real estate properties. With the changes in brownfield policy we passed at the state level, I am thrilled we can also turn brownfields in Kalamazoo into vibrant housing solutions for our communities,” Rogers said.

FULL VERSION. Filmmaker Doug Roos (BAKEMONO) joins Adam and Joe in the ArieScope studio to discuss his international career journey and shooting his latest film in Japan. From seeing ALIENS at age 6 and falling in love with genre cinema… to his fascination with making his own monsters and starting out with nothing but clear plastic bags and a flashlight… to making his first short film at 12 years old and why 1993's CARNOSAUR was such an inspiration to him… to making films in China before relocating to Japan where he has been living for the last 7 years… to being told “it's too expensive to shoot a movie in Japan” and accepting the statement as a challenge… to learning about the dark side of Tokyo from actor friends and conceiving the idea for BAKEMONO… to how he made the incredible creature effects himself on an extremely limited budget and why he chose to tell the story of BAKEMONO in a “non-linear” structure… to why he waited to crowd fund the film until he already had footage to show the world… to the hurdles of promoting his film through his own efforts and positive word of mouth alone, Doug is an inspiration for anyone out there who is tired of waiting for permission and ready to make their own movie happen. Agile in Construction: The Culture Shock of Applying Agile and Lean to Construction, With Luca Cotta Ramusino Read the full Show Notes and search through the world's largest audio library on Agile and Scrum directly on the Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast website: http://bit.ly/SMTP_ShowNotes. Luca experienced a culture shock when first applying Lean thinking to construction, struggling to see how methods designed for cars and assembly lines could work in one-off construction projects. However, he discovered that collaboration in construction isn't about boss relationships—it's about people coming together to deliver value from the customer's perspective. The key insight: when multiple contractors compete for their share of income, the real goal becomes finding ways to complete "the work" efficiently. Competition exists, but the ultimate focus must remain on delivering what the customer truly needs, not just what individual trades want to accomplish. In this segment, we refer to the concept of an Andon Cord, and Swarming from Lean. Featured Book of the Week: The Machine That Changed the World & The Toyota Way These two books provided Luca with his "aha!" moment in understanding Lean construction. The Toyota Way, available in both English and Italian (with additional Italian company case studies), initially created a culture shock as Luca struggled to apply automotive methods to construction's one-off projects. However, these books revealed how Lean thinking could transform construction through visual management to surface problems quickly and swarming practices to fix issues faster. The books taught him that Lean principles transcend industries when properly adapted to different contexts. The Machine That Changed The World, by Womack, Jones, and Roos. Self-reflection Question: What industry practices have you dismissed too quickly without considering how they might adapt to your unique context? [The Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast Recommends]
