Today's book lover is seeking a literary doorway into the creative world of art and museums. Kristine Parsons doesn't have an art background. She works as a county road commission manager in Michigan, yet she is fascinated by art and museums, and finds herself drawn to immersive and engaging stories that incorporate one or both elements into the story. Kristine loves to travel and visit museums in person, but her day-to-day life between work and two active pre-teens means that in this season, these visits are more likely to occur on the page. Today, Kristine and Anne explore stories featuring art and the creative process. If Anne has recommendations that are actually set in museums, well, so much the better. We'd love to hear your ideas for Kristine, too: please tell us by leaving a comment on our show notes page, where you'll also find the list of titles mentioned today. That's at whatshouldireadnextpodcast.com/527. We're so happy to announce that our long-awaited MMD sorority style sweatshirt is available for pre-order. A mid-weight Comfort Colors crew, choose from two shades: a soft blue called blue jean and a soft red called crimson. Both feature an MMD applique in deep navy. These are cute and comfortable, and our team is excited to wear them on cool summer nights and into the colder months of the year. In this concluding message of Matthew 13, Pastor Karl unpacks the final three parables of Jesus — the Hidden Treasure, the Pearl of Great Price, and the Net — and challenges the common interpretations most of us have grown up hearing.Rather than reading these parables through a modern American lens, Pastor Karl takes us back into a first-century Jewish mindset to uncover what Jesus was really communicating. The treasure hidden in the field isn't something we purchase with our devotion — it's a picture of Jesus himself, who in joy gave everything to redeem his chosen people. The pearl of great price wasn't a treasure to the Jews at all, which is exactly the point: Jesus was revealing the shocking mystery that Gentiles — the unclean, the outsiders — would be included in the kingdom of God. And the parable of the net reminds us that not all roads lead to heaven, and that a day of separation is coming.Pastor Karl also draws a striking connection to the book of Ruth, showing how Boaz purchasing the field to gain Ruth as his bride foreshadowed what Jesus would do for his people — buying the field to possess the treasure within it.The message closes with one of the hardest passages for any pastor to preach at his own church: Jesus returning to his hometown, only to be met with familiarity and low expectation. The takeaway is pointed — low expectation limits reception. The messenger can be overlooked, but the message cannot: God chose to treasure you, not because of anything you offered, but because of the price his Son was willing to pay.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

Mothers of Magic: Perdita Finn on How to Summon Your Ancestors and Reclaim the Mothering You Never Had

Ready to feel all the feelings? Sarah and Jane sit down with author and mystic Perdita Finn on the eve of the launch of her new book, Mothers of Magic: Summoning the Wisdom of Our Ancestors — and the timing feels nothing short of divinely arranged. Perdita is also the author of Take Back the Magic: Conversations with the Unseen World, and this episode picks up right where that book left off: the dead are not gone, they are available to help us.  What unfolds is one of the most resonant conversations Medium Curious has ever had. Perdita brings her gift for poetic, grounded storytelling to questions that couldn't feel more urgent: What does it mean to be un-mothered in a culture designed to make mothers fail? How do we reclaim the grandmothers who were silenced, reduced to diagnoses, cornered by circumstance? And how do we connect with them now, across the veil, when we need them most? Perdita shares the story of her grandmother Nellie — a woman she only knew as a stroke victim, but who she discovered, through diaries found after her mother's death, to be a complicated, extraordinary soul worth claiming. She talks about the forget-me-nots blooming in her yard three weeks early on book launch day, carried from England to America by her grandmother, and what it feels like to offer this book to her. The conversation moves through the lost village of mothering — how before civilization, a mother was anyone who cared, regardless of gender or biology — to the very practical question of what to do with all of it: the grief, the rage, the overwhelm, the headlines. Perdita's answer is to delegate to the dead. She opens every morning with her worries and calls on her team on the other side, from her late dentist to the survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, trusting that the dead can hold what we cannot. This episode will leave you crying, laughing, and reaching for your own grandmother's hand across whatever distance separates you. Key Takeaways The dead are still available to us. Perdita opens every morning by calling on her team on the other side — ancestors, teachers, friends, even those we've lost to historical atrocity — and asks them to help carry what feels too heavy to hold alone. This isn't metaphor. It's a daily practice with real effects. Our grandmothers were more than the stories we were told about them. Many of us inherited a reduced version of who our grandmothers were — shaped by trauma, mental illness labels, silence, and the limits of the era they lived in. Their diaries, their objects, their dreams can give them back to us as full human beings. Fretting is a form of prayer. Perdita reframes worry not as weakness but as creativity at work — an act of turning something over, wearing away at a problem, spinning new possibilities into being. Our anxious minds are also our most generative ones. Before civilization, a mother was an adult who cared. Mothering wasn't defined by gender or biology. It was communal, expansive, and distributed across a whole circle of people. Reclaiming that definition is not just healing — it's resistance. We are all psychic, and we have been trained out of it. Perdita's own precognitive dreams were met with terror by her mother, and she shut them down. When we silence those gifts in children — and in ourselves — we lose our most essential line of communication with the unseen world. The goal isn't just your lifetime. Perdita encourages thinking in terms of 49 generations — roughly 1,200 years. What prayer would you want to still be praying then? What healing are you beginning now that you may not live to see complete? Quotable Moments "What we long for are the arms and the embrace of a circle of mothers — a circle of grandmothers, a circle of beings who know who we are and want us to be who we are." "If we weren't adored by a group of women who loved us in life, just know: you are adored by beings beyond measure who love you from the other side." "We need less children in the world and more mothers." "A knot, an obstacle, a problem, a rift — becomes an opportunity for magic with the dead." "If we remember we're all each other's mothers, we're going to stop clear-cutting the forest and mountaintop mining and putting each other in solitary confinement." Do Plants Think? & Why Dining Out Feels So Expensive - SYSK Choice

Something You Should Know

If you ever feel a wave of anxiety or that vague sense of dread, your first instinct probably isn't to reach for a pain reliever. But there's evidence that something you already have in your medicine cabinet may affect more than just physical pain—and the reason why is surprisingly unexpected. https://www.livescience.com/28770-tylenol-eases-existential-dread.html Plants don't have brains—so how could they possibly be intelligent? Yet research suggests plants can sense threats, communicate with each other, and even change their behavior in ways that seem surprisingly strategic. Zoë Schlanger, award-winning writer for The Atlantic and author of The Light Eaters: How the Unseen World of Plant Intelligence Offers a New Understanding of Life on Earth (https://amzn.to/4deE12f), explores this hidden world and explains how plants may be far more responsive and complex than we ever imagined. Dining out often comes with sticker shock. Between rising menu prices, service charges, and tipping, a simple meal can add up quickly. But what's actually driving those costs? And why do some insiders argue that restaurants may still be underpriced? Andrew Friedman takes us behind the scenes of the restaurant industry and reveals the complex economics, labor, and logistics that shape the price of what ends up on your plate. He is author of the book The Dish: The Lives and Labor Behind One Plate of Food (https://amzn.to/3xWJjiE). Let out a good sigh—it might do more than you think. People all over the world sigh, often without realizing it, and it plays a role in both how we communicate and how our bodies function. https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/brain-babble/201304/why-do-we-sigh PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS POCKET HOSE: For a limited time, when you purchase a new Pocket Hose Ballistic, you'll get a FREE 360 degree rotating pocket pivot and a FREE thumb drive nozzle! Perdita Finn is the co-founder, with her husband Clark Strand, of the feral fellowship The Way of the Rose, which inspired their book The Way of the Rose: The Radical Path of the Divine Feminine Hidden in the Rosary. They are currently at work on their next book together Circles Not Lines: Spiritual Community Beyond Patriarchy.  To find out more about her devotion to “ecology not theology” visit wayoftherose.org In addition to extensive study with Zen masters, priests, spirit workers, and healers, she apprenticed with the psychic Susan Saxman, with whom she wrote The Reluctant Psychic. Perdita Finn now teaches popular workshops on Getting to Know the Dead. Participants are empowered to activate the miracles in their own lives with the help of their ancestors and recover their own intuitive magic. Her book Take Back the Magic: Conversations with the Unseen World is an intimate journey through her recovery of these lost ways. She speaks widely on how to collaborate with those on the other side, on the urgent necessity of a new romantic animism, and on the sobriety that emerges when we claim the long story of our souls. Her next book is Mothers of Magic: Summoning the Wisdom of Our Ancestors, to be released on May 5th, 2026. Perdita begins by talking about the idea of redefining Mothering beyond gender, something that feels so important in today's world where Mothering has been sidelined by the patriarchy. She offers some strong guidance to men about the role of Grandmothers which helps us move towards collective Mothering. So much of Perdita's work and book centers on a calling upon the dead. As such we get to hear how this connects with Mothering, how to speak with the dead, and viewing our worries or fretting as an act of prayer calling out for help from the unseen.  You can connect with all of Perdita's work at https://takebackthemagic.com/ Like, Subscribe!  Watch us on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/@dancingwithwaterpodcast Find us on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/dancingwithwaterpodcast Support us at Patreon https://www.patreon.com/dancingwithwater Find archive conversation from I want what SHE has https://iwantwhatshehas.org/  Learn more about Theresa and her offerings at https://www.anahatakingston.com/  Learn more about Jennifer and her offerings at https://www.cosmicmotherlove.com/

People who try and explain the complexity of human existence sometimes talk about “the seen and unseen world.” The seen world is the world of everyday reality in which we live. The theory of the unseen world attempts to explain some events in the real world - like love, happiness, and talent - in terms of the intangible. These explanations might range from suggestions of the existence of a soul, to past lives and karma. There is, of course, no substantiated evidence of the existence of an unseen world. Unless you’re talking about the restaurant business. In a restaurant, a diner’s real-world experience of sitting down at a table, enjoying a drink and a professionally prepared and served meal, is undeniably affected by a complex web of unseen causes. The interpersonal relationships in the kitchen... Whether or not the staff have health insurance... And chains of events like the restaurant’s ability to secure a minimum order of fresh shrimp from a supplier at a decent price - the profitability of which depends on the number of customers who show up and order the shrimp special - which itself is dependent on server education and a successful social media marketing campaign. At a big and successful restaurant, these demanding complexities are handled by a range of personnel – typically as many as 20 people – employing a range of complex systems. Here in New Orleans, Elizabeth Tilton realized if smaller restaurants – which most restaurants in the United States are – had access to these same personnel and systems, they would greatly increase their chances of success. That’s why, in 2019, she founded her company, Oyster Sunday. Oyster Sunday provides restaurants with concept development, financial strategy, project management, branding, marketing, PR, human resources, operations, and much more. Their clients are scattered all across the United States, and even around the world. The comedian Steven Wright has a great line: “It’s a small world. But I wouldn’t want to paint it.” When you step into an actual small world - like a music festival or a convention - you’ll notice there’s typically a whole other reality. It ranges from functional construction – like stages or booths - to decorations. These elements create both the infrastructure and the vibe of events. And despite Steven Wright’s trepidation, somebody has to not just paint all of that, they also have to design and build it. Here in New Orleans, and across the country too, the fabrication of those worlds is the work of a company called Downtown FabWorks. The Founder and President of the company is Daniel Krall. if there are two things we know something about in New Orleans – better than probably anywhere in the country – it’s eating out, and getting out and having fun. So, perhaps it’s not surprising that two industry leading, innovative businesses in these fields are the creations of two New Orleanians. Out to Lunch was recorded live over lunch at Columns in Uptown New Orleans. You can find photos from this show by Jill Lafleur at itsneworleans.com. In this experience, she was told many things, among them that He would return to her later in her life and give her a mission to fulfill in relation to out of body travel. When she was 22 years old, she had her first out-of-body experience in adulthood which began a process of journaling which would unleash thousands of out of body travel and mystical experiences over the next decades."

Title: TSP #2208 – Arkheim Ra | Time Corps, Portal Nodes & The Unseen World Bio / Intro: Arkheim Ra is an American public figure who discusses secret government programs, psychic warfare, super-soldier programming, and timeline phenomena. Described by some as a Montauk Project survivor, “timeline jumper,” and consciousness warrior, Ra shares first-hand testimony and interpretations of alleged programs like T.A.G. (Talented & Gifted) and other covert operations. He co-hosts the YouTube channel Disclosure Now! with Brian Tseng and frequently appears on podcast panels to explore time-tech, portal nodes, and unseen-world mechanics. Ra's accounts are part testimonial, part fringe research — expect personal stories, intense claims, and big questions about control, consciousness, and covert tech. Description: Tonight on the Typical Skeptic Podcast, Rob sits down with Arkheim Ra to examine the shadowy intersections of mind control, time tech, and interdimensional access. We'll dig into the alleged workings of the Time Corps, how portal nodes are said to operate in our world, and practical implications for people sensitive to timeline shifts and psychic incursions. This episode blends survivor testimony, theory, and strategy — and we'll challenge the ideas while giving space for the lived experience. Topics include: Alleged Montauk Project memories and the Time Corps concept Portal nodes, timeline architecture, and what people call the “unseen world” T.A.G. programming, super-soldier narratives, and starseed identity claims Psychic warfare: signs, protections, and clearing techniques How surveillance AI and behavioral engineering may intersect with mind-control programs Personal timeline-jumping experiences and how to ground afterward Tune in live at 9 PM Eastern on YouTube, Rumble, and Facebook. Suggested Questions / Talking Points: Tell us your first memories of the Montauk/Time Corps claims — what happened and how did you interpret it later? What is a “portal node” in your view — physical, energetic, or both? Examples? Explain T.A.G. programming: how would schools or institutions identify and recruit children for such programs? How do timeline jumps feel subjectively? Any consistent signs people can watch for? What practical protections or grounding techniques do you recommend after an intense timeline event? How do you see AI surveillance and behavioral tech interacting with the alleged covert programs? Are there patterns (locations, dates, people) where portal activity seems stronger? How do you separate genuine anomalous experiences from trauma or false memory? What role do starseed identities and spiritual frameworks play in interpreting these experiences? For skeptics: what evidence or test would you offer to persuade a critical listener? Is there credible evidence for the supernatural? What should we make of verifiable near-death experiences (NDEs), angelic encounters, deathbed visions, and miraculous healings? Do these reports point to a reality beyond the material world? This week, Frank invites the one and only Lee Strobel on the program to discuss the compelling case for the unseen realm, as detailed in his fascinating new book, 'Seeing the Supernatural: Investigating Angels, Demons, Mystical Dreams, Near-Death Encounters, and Other Mysteries of the Unseen World.' Drawing from well-documented accounts and interviews with leading experts, Lee and Frank tackle questions like:What's the most convincing evidence for the existence of the soul? What are deathbed visions, and are they found in Scripture? Are there any reports of negative or frightening near-death experiences? Why doesn't God always grant miraculous healing when we pray? What happened when Lee encountered an angel when he was 12-years old?Are miracles still happening today? From personal stories to peer-reviewed studies, this episode uncovers the mysteries that science alone can't explain. Even the most skeptical listeners will be challenged to reconsider the limits of naturalism. You won't be able to peel yourself away from this fascinating conversation!Resources mentioned during the episode:Lee's website: https://leestrobel.com/Seeing the Supernatural by Lee Strobel - https://a.co/d/hH9l78N
