Welcome to the work week. We are back working to bring ya another episode. Today we have a Mexican Navy competition ship that apparently had a lil mishap at the Brooklyn bridge. I didn't even know Mexico had a Navy. There are reports of engine trouble but ultimately a few lives were lost when it collided with the bridge as on lookers witnessed it. We have another teacher in the news. Biden now has “aggressive” cancer, which is terrible for anyone but there are still questions relating. Train collides with pedestrians in Northern Ohio with casualties. Have a couple idiots of the week as well. You will get to see Pappas' reaction to his gift if he shows up, and I found a gift I am gonna buy Dan. The voice you'll hear at the top of this Overdrive Radio edition is that of Overdrive's February Trucker of the Month Kenny Wingate. Clearly, he knows of what he speaks when he invokes the feeling -- "nothing like it," he said -- that he associates with best of trucking as an owner-operator, running your own game when times are good. It's part of what drove him to take the leap back from company work he was doing to launch his Southpoint Exchange businss with one truck and his own authority in 2019. He's up to two trucks today, headquartered in Auburndale, Florida: https://www.overdriveonline.com/trucker-of-the-year/article/15738560/how-truckings-supposed-to-be-done-meet-kenny-wingate He's the proud owner of two sharp Peterbilt 579s and stainless reefers, and he's been focused throughout the company's relatively short six-year history on business brass tacks, building a team around him for freight with regular brokers, many of whom he's known going back decades. Likewise on the accounting, bookkeeping and general business management side of Southpoint Exchange, and he's set up for further growth after a lifetime spent trucking, as you'll hear in the podcast. He's 55 years young today and relishes that long history in the business, though many of the men he learned from, and some of those he came up with in trucking, have passed on. Magnanimous in manner, clearly on top of his game as a business owner, Wingate is also nothing if not grateful for all the help of those who came before him. He told the story of a recent encounter of an old friend at a dock. "Our generation is starting to be few and far between ... The other day I run across a gentleman I probably hadn't seen in 25 years, and we trucked together," Wingate said. "We sat down on an old wooden bench at the back of our trailers while we were getting loaded" remembering all those who came before but also "we just laughed, man, and just cut the fool, and it felt good. It felt good to see somebody that you trucked with years ago, you know, when when things were a little different." At once, most of the folks the two men asked each other about were gone, he said, or at the very least off the road for good for health or other reasons. Wingate, 55, stays grateful for his own longevity, and looks ahead to the future and opportunities to build better business with Southpoint Exchange. In the podcast, hear that perspective but also just how two-truck Southpoint Exchange is getting the work done with dedicated freight on lanes between Florida and Northern Ohio. After being nominated by one of his customers, he's officially in the running for our 2025 Trucker of the Year award, which you can enter yourself or nominate another owner via https://overdriveonline.com/toptrucker

Learn more about Mighty Line Minute Get free samples Greetings everyone and welcome to Mighty Line Monday Minute. I'm going to cover some interesting topics this entire month, and that will be on the area of communications and safety. I hope that you will find this effective because over my many years, one of the important things to me was hearing things that meant something. We'll be discussing the art of effective messaging in risk management and EHS. That is to say, reflecting upon what we hear from our senior leaders and managers that is actually true, and importantly, is effective, sticks with us, and calls us to take action. Let's just call it “The art of pontificated messaging.” I'll run through three “safety earworms” that I've lived with throughout my safety and risk management career; ones that I have found to be clear, effective, and useful. So here they are: Guarding Against Hazards: “If you can reach your hand over, under, around or through the guard and into the point of operation, then it's not guarded.” That phrase was hammered into me by my first safety supervisor, who, with many years of service with the State of Ohio, had seen it all. It was especially timely as I had recently graduated from college and found myself investigating the most severe of industrial accidents throughout Northern Ohio. In addition to conducting site surveys and investigations, I was teaching mechanical and hydraulic press safeguarding classes at various employers. The measuring tool provided by Rockford Safety Systems was an essential visual and physical communication tool that demonstrated how so many guards were in fact, not “guards.” In summary, if you are able to reach into an in-running powered roll, a point of operation, or reach a pinch-point, then the machinery or equipment is not “guarded.” Acknowledging Accident Severity: “The severity of an accident is a matter of chance.” My supervisor would often remind me of this. His point was, of course, that no matter how minor the nature of the workplace injury or illness was that resulted from an accident, and even where no-one was hurt, that it was merely a matter of chance that the accident or event didn't result in a more serious outcome. Don't we often think that way? For example, “Boy was he or she lucky,” or, “That could have been a real tragedy, but thankfully it wasn't.” In other words, that could also imply “Let's move on.” However, the phrase was fair warning to all that even the smallest of accidents and all near-misses should be paid attention to, and that we must always strive to identify those hazards and risks that could lead to an injury or illness, so let's mitigate the risk before anything happens. Preparation for the Unexpected: “Be prepared for the unexpected.” Fine words they are. This phrase always reminded me of my scouting days with the Scout Motto “Be Prepared.” However, the reason I pack a blanket, warm clothing, sports drinks and a Kind bar into my 4-wheeler every winter in Cleveland is actually due to my scouting years. That's because we experienced those frigid winter weather campouts in pup tents. And it did pay off once during a blizzard when I spent 8 hours stuck on the Ohio Turnpike with a full tank of gas, warm clothing, sufficient water, and a jar of peanut butter. But, was the Port of Baltimore really prepared for the very recent and unexpected tragedy involving the Dali container shipped that struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge, and should the event have been anticipated? The phrase, “Be prepared for the unexpected” was always of some concern to me as there was not a clear and direct call to action. For example, wouldn't “Plan for the unexpected” be better stated, so that planning actually became an action item? And then there's the fuzziness associated with the term “unexpected.” What actually is “unexpected” that warrants action, and by whose determination? Perhaps a better command might be: “Risk assess, then take action,” or, “Risk assess, then mitigate.” Or ideally, “Risk assess, then mitigate with the goal of achieving zero risk.” Of course, pragmatically speaking, life certainly is not without “all” risk mitigated. So, my final suggestion is: “Risk assess, educate, communicate, and mitigate.” The bottom line is that we must become far more knowledgeable about the hazards, the likelihood of occurrence, the range of possible outcomes, and the full scope of possible impacts; in other words, the RISK. And to do that, we must have conducted those risk assessments thoroughly, diligently, and with purpose, always with the goal of taking action. Thanks everyone for listening in today to the Mighty Line Monday Minute. I'll look forward to talking to you in the weeks ahead more about effective safety communication. Please stay tuned, and as always Take care, have a MIGHTY day

Erle C. Kenton's The Island of Lost Souls is a pre-code adaptation of H.G. Wells' The Island of Dr. Moreau, and the Criterion release contains quite possibly the most seemingly erratic and certainly esoteric collection of bonus features to ever be put on one of their discs. The movie itself is a wonder of early make-up effects, but among other things the additional materials bring us commentary from someone involved with a famously bad different adaptation of the work, a band loosely inspired by the film (but not the other band), and a two minute clip of a certain Northern Ohio television goofball interviewing himself.
FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY (aka THE BREAD PLAY): After getting the unlimited bread deal at an Italian restaurant, Arlo and Val are both stuffed and ready for the check. But their server doesn't bring them their check. He brings them more bread. He keeps ... bringing them more bread. He won't stop. He won't ever stop. The bread is unlimited. And there is no escape. A romantic horror comedy about the hard truth that nothing lasts forever, except maybe bread. Written by Daniel Prillaman Directed by Jonathan Cook Performed by Roshelle Simpson as "Val", John D. Nelson as "Arlo", Valentin Angel Fernandez as "Server", and Jacquie Floyd and Jonathan Cook as the "Advertisement Announcers" Intro/Outro music: JK/47 About the writer: Daniel (he/him) is a neurodivergent ginger Virginian currently based out of Northern Ohio (with his creative partner and wife, Allisyn). He has a special fondness for absurdism, folklore, and horror, but ultimately loves plays about honest people (or talking animals) in situations he hasn't seen before. When not gleefully giving his "soul" to artistic endeavors and projects, he legitimately enjoys long walks on the beach, a video game with a glass of wine, and biscuits. His plays include "A Pirate Carol," "The Ashen Crown," and "You See Them in the Corners of Your Eyes," which have been produced in camp workshops and schools across the United States. His cosmic horror, "In the Slush," was a Finalist for the 2023 Princess Grace Award. Daniel is an alumnus of the University of Virginia and a member of the Dramatists Guild. Three students of the Kent State University School of Nursing helped save a man in distress in downtown Wooster, Ohio. The man was experiencing a violent seizure when students Audrey Jokovich, Keenan Orr, and Marissa Tyger happened to be walking by as they were working on a school assignment. They provided aid and obtained valuable information about the patient before EMS arrived on the scene. All three credit their Red Cross Basic Life Support training for helping them know what to do and how to stay calm in a very stressful situation. Warren Buffet once said, “Partnership is not a legal contract between two equal individuals. It's an emotional alliance between two people who are committed to each other's success.” And that's true, isn't it? Whether you're new to strategic partnerships or have been doing this for years, you doubtless understand that your most successful endeavors have been due to the relationships you forged with your partners. But as the field of partnerships has grown in recent years, so too has the challenge to partnership leaders who are now tasked to support every aspect of a business. How do you secure the right background for a successful career? And how do we develop the necessary skills to foster emotional alliances that achieve business results? That's what we're covering in today's episode of Partnership Unpacked. Welcome back to Partnership Unpacked, where I selfishly use this time to pick the brains of experts at strategic partnerships, channel programs, affiliates, influencer marketing, and relationship building… oh, and you get to learn too! Subscribe to learn how you can amplify your growth strategy – with a solid takeaway every episode from partnership experts in the industry. When I left college after having studied History and Computer Science, my first salaried job was handling ERP support for Dana Corporation and helping our 80,000 employees deal with their questions about Baan, Lawson and Oracle. After a few years, I joined a local IT firm as Sales Manager and a few years after that, took a break from IT and sold swimming pools and hot tubs in Northern Ohio. Later I became an entrepreneur and started my own marketing business, The Social Media Hat, leveraged that into a role as CMO of Sitesell, and then shifted to Agorapulse where I've been leading partnerships since 2018. While one could say that I've been in sales & marketing for over twenty years and that the majority of that time has been in the digital space, the reality is that my career has not been a straight line. Surely it doesn't always have to be like that. Wouldn't it be nice to have a better understanding of what partnership leader roles today require in terms of skills, and how those can be developed and applied? That's exactly what Greg Rust is going to talk to us about. Greg is the Senior Director - Global Holdco's & Digital SI Partnerships at Oracle and a 5 time Partner of the Year. He has decades of experience as a Global Strategic Alliance Executive that's based on years working in sales, product management, and more. He's established trusted relationships with key executives across multiple industries and verticals, and has just the diverse background and perspective we need to tackle this topic. The day begins with a tragic fire in Northern Ohio; Republicans at the Statehouse override a veto, paving the way for a ban on gender-affirming care for minors; business neighbors react to the raid of a spa in a suburban Cleveland shopping plaza; the leader of Ohio State's archrival bolts for California.
Dylan Fink, who underwent treatment for non-hodgkin's lymphoma at age 14, talks about the importance of having an adequate blood supply for patients like him. His treatment included multiple blood transfusions. He's joined by his father, Ed Fink, who with wife Krista started the Fearless Fighters Foundation. Red Cross biomedical expert Christy Peters sheds light on the reasons for the current blood shortage and ways to end it. Hosted by Jim McIntyre, regional communications manager for tghe American Red Cross of Northern Ohio.
Northern Ohio is best known for its stunning lake views and bustling cities, but even a region as gorgeous and prosperous as this has seen its measure of tragedy. Judy Martins was a beautiful Kent State University coed who disappeared after a dorm party. Frank Noch was a mathematical genius and valuable employee at the General Motors plant in Cleveland. Someone broke into his home and killed him. Hinckley Police Chief Mel Wiley had a secret. Maybe that is why he disappeared. DNA helped Sandusky Police identify a Jane Doe forty-three years to the day she washed up on the shores of Lake Erie. Now, detectives are hoping to find out who put Patricia Greenwood in the water and why. Award-winning author Jane Ann Turzillo unfolds these unsolved cases and eight more from the north of the Buckeye State. The historic images for this book are drawn from the Bath Township Historical Society and private collections owned by descendants of Bath's first families. Through these photographs, the reader will meet the pioneers, perhaps ponder their sacrifices, and tour the township's historic buildings. Buy HERE
Hi Everyone! My special guest is Merrill Rainey, Picture-Book-Creator and Paper-Toy-Maker. Here is more about Merrill: Growing up, Merrill Rainey spent most of his Saturday afternoons drawing, watching monster movies, and going on imaginary adventures. Today, he is a cowboy-boot-wearing, picture-book-creator and paper-toy-maker. Merrill's work focuses on exploring creativity and imaginative play. His current titles include Roar! I'm a Dinosaur (winner of the Good Housekeeping Best Kids' Board Book of 2022), Oink! I'm a Pig, and the Color, Cut, Create series. His newest illustrated title Giants Are Very Brave People, written by Florence Parry Heide, is a reimagined classic picture book about a little giant that learns to be brave with the help of a new friend. Merrill also works for many children's magazines like Highlights, Ranger Rick, and Humpty Dumpty. He has served on faculty at the Highlights Foundation retreat center and is currently the illustrator coordinator for the Northern Ohio chapter of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Merrill lives in the village of Whitehouse, Ohio, with his editor (his wife), subject matter experts (his kids), and very opinionated coworkers (a very hungry toad and some crabby hermit crabs). The forecast attributes this change to the presence of El Niño during the winter season. Long-term weather pattern predictors anticipate a 40-50% chance of warmer-than-usual temperatures in December, January, and February, especially in Central and Northern Ohio. Southern Ohio also has a 33-40% chance of experiencing temperatures above the average for this period. Free Pet Food and SuppliesNo tricks, just treats!

Some may be thinking The Mismatched Podcast may be making a movie with this episode title but don't worry we are literally chatting about a stock trailer that hauls livestock. Danna was appalled when Kristin asked her if she wanted to camp in her new trailer. Much like country music the trailer is growing on Danna. The @ohiostatefair is here and if you are in Ohio you must visit the fair, it runs through August 6th. How do you and your significant other negotiate deals when making major purchases? We chat sales tactics and how some people may treat you different. Cedar Point is a fun place to visit and you can camp there, be sure to visit this super fun spot in Northern Ohio. We also clarify some geographic confusion on Kristin's part…let's be clear people in Scioto County do have teeth…it's Pike County that needs more dentists. Welcome to Mysteries to Die For.I am TG Wolff and am here with Jack, my piano player and producer. This is a podcast where we combine storytelling with original music to put you in the heart of a mystery. Some episodes are original stories, others will be classics that helped shape the mystery genre we know today. All are structured to challenge you to beat the detective to the solution. These are arrangements, which means instead of word-for-word readings, you get a performance meant to be heard. Jack and I perform these live, front to back, no breaks, no fakes, no retakes. This is Season 5, Move It or Lose It. This season contains original stories paying homage to the vehicles that propel mysteries forward. A train was the setting for Agatha Christie's famed Murder on the Orient Express. A river boat then took center stage on Death on the Nile. Cars have been prominently featured in American crime stories with the glory of the get-a-way vehicle. Then there are the heists from carriages to trains to armored trucks. For Episode 10, one of those annoying shuttles that gets you around an airport is the featured vehicle. Darin M. Dalmat, labor attorney and senior partner with the law firm Barnard, Iglitzin and Lavitt LLP, joined the America's Work Force Union Podcast and discussed a case being heard by the U.S. Supreme Court. The firm represents Teamsters Local 174 in the Glacier NW Inc. vs. Teamsters Local 174 case. Dalmat discussed the damages Glacier is seeking, the events that led to the damages and what it was like to argue in front of the U.S. Supreme Court. Pat Gallagher, President of the North Coast Area Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, based in Northern Ohio, appeared on the America's Work Force Union Podcast and gave an update on the repeal of So-Called “Right to Work” laws in Michigan. He also discussed a new contract for workers at Hollywood Casinos in Ohio and shared his thoughts on the the potential damage an increase of steel imported into the U.S. would cause the nation's steel industry.
After a stream of back to back to back episodes covering specific brands of cameras and talking to a huge number of listeners, the guys and I decided we would take a short break from our "open source" concept to catch up on the things we all have been doing. We thought it would be a nice change to have a smaller, more intimate discussion and invite someone we all thoroughly enjoy talking to and wanted to catch up with. After a painstaking "Hunger Games" style of elimination rounds, the guys and I picked none other than Dan Tamarkin as our special guest host this week. As he always does, Dan brings with him a lifetime of knowledge of Leica and camera retail experience. With that experience, we decided it would be fun to talk about some recent auctions, including a rather infamous one that recently closed in Northern Ohio which Paul and I participated in, and a large number of our listeners did as well. We've heard some of the stories from that auction and have a few of our own, so we talk about that, along with Tamarkin Auctions, and everything that goes into making one run smoothly, and what might make them run "not smoothly". In addition to auctions, Anthony thought it would be fun to announce in the presence of a well-known Leica dealer that he sold every single Leica he owns, and traded it for a viewfinder camera. What kind of viewfinder camera is equal to a perfectly working Leica M3 and a IIIf you ask? Listen to the show. In addition, Mike's not dead, Robot Theo is pining for his job, Human Theo bought some stuff from Paul, Paul is bringing out the bling with his golden cameras, and Mike is shooting one of those Japanese "Hit" style miniature cameras. As always, the topics we discuss on the Camerosity Podcast are influenced by you! We would love to hear from more listeners, especially those who are new to shooting film or collecting cameras. Please don't feel like you have to be an expert on a specific type of camera, or have the level of knowledge on par with other people on the show. We LOVE people who are new to shooting and are interested in having an episode dedicated to people new to the hobby, so please don't consider your knowledge level to be a prerequisite for joining! The guys and I rarely know where each episode is going to go until it happens, so if you'd like to join us on a future episode, be sure to look out for our show announcements on our Camerosity Podcast Facebook page, and right here on mikeeckman.com. We usually record every other Monday and announcements, along with the Zoom link are typically shared 2-3 days in advance. For our next Episode, we will re-open the call-in lines and talk about Mamiya and their very diverse line up of roll film TLR and SLRs, along with their many different iterations of 35mm cameras. Episode 45 will be recorded on Monday, March 20th. We hope to see you there! Scribd is a magical resource, full of the most obscure documents, journals, and manifestos ever assembled in one location. One fine day I stumbled upon a strange report assembled by Dennis Pilichis entitled Night Siege - The Northern Ohio UFO-Creature Invasion. The report details the struggles of the Robert S. family as they defended their property from a series of strange beings and objects. The story reads like the Kelly-Hopkinsville Incident on steroids and maybe drugs. Definitely drugs. This story has it all: Bigfoots with glowing red eyes, dark figures with weird flashlights, UFOs of all kinds, the most baller illustrations you've ever seen in your life, (Shout out Larry Blazey) a family that will literally shoot at anything while on their roof, and rabbits filled with cynaide. Spencer Wirth Davis (The What If? Podcast, The Layers Lair & Dang! That's Weird) returns to experience the Invasion for himself! Organizing is the foundation of our union and our labor movement, and recent years have seen an explosion of union organizing across America. From Starbucks stores and the Amazon Labor Union, to SMART campaigns in Washington state and New Jersey, workers have shown that they are eager to unionize – and unions like SMART are ready to answer the call. Eli Baccus Our featured guest is Eli Baccus, an organizer and director of partnership development at SM Local 33 (Northern Ohio). An Army veteran whose primary experiences before joining Local 33 were in residential construction and as a labor attorney, Eli has helped the union experience great success in its organizing, with 14 contractors signing with Local 33 in 2015 alone. He spoke on the importance of organizing, different strategic approaches, and more: “When we are able to bring in more members and produce more man-hours, it gives us more strength at the bargaining table to help negotiate a higher wage rate for our members.” At the end of this episode, listen for the open mic segment with SMART General President Joseph Sellers. He responds to a question about what types of new work and large projects are on the horizon for members in our industries. Talking SMART is a member of the Labor Radio Podcast Network — working people's voices, broadcasting worldwide 24 hours a day.
