This episode includes my interview with Finley Joseph about his and his family's experience visiting one of our churches. I also speak a little on spiritual gifts and keeping a record. Here is the talk mentioned in the podcast. Our Strengths Can Become Our Downfall | Dallin H. Oaks Our Strengths Can Become Our Downfall | Dallin H. Oaks Here's a treat…. https://youtu.be/CxzUO_E1N84 Also! This episode made me think so much about Elder Uchtdorf's talk in the last conference, "By This All Will Know That You Are My Disciples."
Spiritual gifts are gifts from a loving Heavenly Father designed to benefit his children. Everyone has them - the trick is recognizing them in ourselves and others. If you'd like to view the video that goes with podcast, click here
May 12-18“We must remember that to every man [or woman] is given a gift by the Spirit of God. It is our right and responsibility to accept our gifts and to share them. God's gifts and powers are available to all of us.” (Ashton, Marvin J., There are Many Gifts, General Conference, October 1987) Each of us has at least one spiritual gift. Some people have many, but the Prophet Joseph Smith had them all. We will learn about them in this episode.
Spiritual Gifts Lesson For Kids Some of the Audio in this Episode comes from the Friend Magazine of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Doctrine and Covenants Podcast for KidsBook of Mormon Podcast for KidsChurch of Jesus Christ Podcast for KidsHave you guys ever heard of a magical land called Narnia? Two brothers and two sisters found a secret door in the back of a closet that led them to a magical world called Narnia. It's a world with fantastic creatures and mythical beasts! Talking animals, giants, dwarves, dragons, & unicorns abound. In the land of Narnia, the children join a magical lion named Aslan in the fight against the evil white witch. In the story, the Lion Aslan is a representation of symbol for Jesus Christ. The Lion Aslan sacrifices himself to save a young naughty boy. Everyone is so sad. But then Aslan comes back to life. Does that sound like or remind you of Jesus? In the story, Aslan the Lion gives each of the siblings gifts so they can win the fight against evil. The oldest brother Peter receives a sword and a shield, The oldest sister Susan receives a bow and arrows and a horn, And the littlest sister Lucy is given a bottle of healing tonic. A magical medicine. Eventually, as the children use their special gifts from Aslan the Lion, they defeat the evil white witch and the land of Narnia is saved! It's a really neat story! You should read it with your parents and see if you can recognize ways the lion is the same as Jesus! Well one way the Lion Aslan is like Jesus is that Aslan gave each of the children special gifts. Did you know that our Heavenly Father and Jesus have also given each of YOU special gifts? God gives every person spiritual gifts. That means He blesses us with talents through the Holy Ghost! Do you guys know what your spiritual gifts are? Are you listening to this podcast with an adult or someone else right now? If you are, ask them what your spiritual gifts are! Or if you are listening by yourself, you can pray and ask Heavenly Father. If you don't know what your spiritual gifts are, you can pray to Heavenly Father to find out! You can also work on your spiritual gifts to make them stronger! So why do we have different spiritual gifts? Heavenly Father gives us spiritual gifts to bless others!Spiritual gifts are blessings or abilities that are given by the power of the Holy Ghost. God gives at least one of these gifts to every faithful member of the Church. As you receive these gifts, they will strengthen and bless you individually and help you serve others.Talk referenced is: Elder Juan Pablo Villar's message “Exercising Our Spiritual Muscles” You're listening to Come Follow Me Kids! The first 5 min. is a guided meditation followed by a mindful reading of the Come Follow Me lesson from the manual with pauses for pondering. And a 10 min. self guided meditation... or in other words, time for you to ponder, pray and reflect...or drift into much needed restful sleep. You can use the timestamps to listen to it all at once, or focus on one section at a time! This is not an official Podcast of The Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints. Send us a text"Seek Ye Earnestly the Best Gifts"... This week we go back to our discussion from 2021! Saints in the South talk about the gifts of the spirit, who has them, and how we can obtain them. Gifts of the spirit come in many forms. Sometimes we don't even recognize the gifts that we do have but there others recognize those gifts we have. If there are gifts that you want, you can seek after those gifts and encouraged to do so. Gifts of the spirit are like our temporal talents. They have to be exercised, worked, studied on, and developed. We also talk about who is welcome in our church. Early on there was some confusion as to who could attend church with the saints. There were some who wanted to exclude people. The Lord made it clear that all our welcome. And today, on all church buildings, you will see that "visitors are welcome". Finally, we talk about who can partake of the sacrament and if all should partake of the sacrament and what does it mean for a non member to partake of the sacrament vs. a member. Revelation Dates: March 8, 1831 Revelation Places: Kirtland, Ohio Section 46 - Historical Background: New converts were now pouring into Kirtland, Ohio. Many had preconceived ideas from their former churches how weekly services should be held. Joseph inquires of the Lord how He wants it done. Recap: The elders attending the meeting should preside and conduct the meeting according to the Spirit. All people should be welcomed to attend, but only worthy members should partake of the sacrament. All members should seek earnestly the best gifts of the Spirit. Some of these gifts are to witness of Jesus Christ, having a believing heart, strong leadership, discernment, wisdom, knowledge, healing, faith, prophecy, and tongues. All gifts come from God for the benefit of mankind. Section 47 - Historical Background: Up to this time, Oliver Cowdery had been acting as Church historian. Joseph Smith called John Whitmer to replace Oliver and John agreed to do it, but only if Joseph Smith received divine guidance from the Lord to call him to the work. Recap: John Whitmer is called to be the recorder of church history and additionally to replace Sidney Rigdon to transcribe revelations and future revisions of the scriptures. Section 48 - Historical Background: A large number of new converts were about to arrive from New York. A member named Leman Copley made a covenant allowing the arriving saints to occupy a piece of his land. Copley apostatized and broke his covenant, forcing these weary saints off of his land. Other saints were occupying a piece of land owned by Isaac Morley. Joseph inquired of the Lord how to acquire lands for the many incoming Saints. Recap: Temporary quarters are necessary for the incoming Saints until the church moves west. If necessary, purchase or lease some land, but conserve funds for purchasing land in Zion. The Elders will be sent to Missouri and it will be revealed to them where Zion will be established and these lands should be purchased, laying the foundation for the City of Zion. The bishop will have the responsibility to assign properties to each family as their needs require.

Join Jill this week on Be YOU as she discusses how motherhood is a journey filled with love, joy, and exhaustion, yet so many moms feel like they're facing it alone. She opens up about the silent battles of motherhood and how unrealistic social media standards can make that isolation even worse, sharing how these insights helped lead to a major shift in her work and to the creation of a new version of her successful Plot Twist retreat, meant specifically for moms who are tired of carrying their burdens in silence. Tune in as Jill walks us through the process which participants in the past have experienced, from releasing resentment and mom guilt to learning the power of true rest without guilt, justification, or explanation. Rev. Dr. Jimmie Hicks, Jr - Senior Pastor at Start Right Church
In this sermon, Pastor emphasizes the importance of individual commitment to God and how personal responsibility is foundational for collective change in the church. He points out that while scripture addresses groups, it also calls for individual actions where each person must humble themselves, seek God, and turn from sin. Citing Romans 12:1, he urges congregants to present their bodies as living sacrifices, highlighting that true service comes from individual choices and dedication to God.Throughout the message, Pastor discusses the significance of teaching as a spiritual gift and the necessity of being diligent in studying the Word of God. He claims that every believer should desire to teach others and shares that teaching requires preparation and accountability, warning that those who teach will be held to a higher standard. Pastor encourages the congregation to actively engage in spreading the Gospel, highlighting love, obedience, and total commitment to God as keys to a fulfilling life. Ultimately, he calls for a deeper relationship with Christ, urging listeners to pursue their spiritual gifts and serve others in the light of their faith.

Many people say this is a podcast about drinking good cocktails with your friends while watching bad movies. But we like to think it's also about romance. So, we prepare everyone for the most important holiday of the year, Valentine's Day, by scrolling through some "Best Gifts for Him/Her" lists and see if any of the tacky trash on them is actually a decent gift idea. Turns out...not many.Wolfcop: Some Canadian dude watched Teen Wolf and Bad Lieutenant, then decided to make a mash-up. THEN, the guy was able to get the Canadian taxpayer to pay for the project. But, these are the people that invented Poutine, so crossovers are right up their alley. As for the story, a drunk cop finds out he's a werewolf. Then he finds out the town is full of shape-shifters looking to harvest his blood. Talk about a complicated week. But, he embraces it, so good for ol' Lou Garou. Wolfcop final grade: Steve: A bit of a disappointment. High hopes not met. That's the problem with expectations. Too damn much shaky cam. Good practical effects, though. 2.25/5.0Brandon: If this is the best form of Canadian cinema, worthy of public grant money, then maybe it's time to shut the place down. Quite a wiener-twist in this one, or a hog-twist for those of you north of the border. 2.4/5.0Cocktail of the Week:Gin Old Fashioned2 oz Old Tom gin1/4 oz Semi-rich Simple Syrup Three dashes Orange BittersPlunk a hunk of lemon peel in a cocktail mixing glass along with some ice. Combine all ingredients in there and stir away. Strain into a lowball glass over a block of ice. Garnish with skewered lemon peel and Luxardo cherries.Cocktail Grade: Better than expected. There may not be a ton of playoff intrigue as we head toward the end of the regular season, but what we do have is about as good as it could be. Take, for example, the Week 17 showdown in the NFC North between the Packers and Vikings. A Vikings win sets up a likely win-and-get-the-1-seed game between them and the Lions in Week 18. A Packers win doesn't carry quite that level of playoff implication, but it would further cement them as a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Robert Mays and Derrik Klassen dig into that game, recap the Christmas Day games, and check in on the other playoff races on this episode of The Athletic Football Show. The reason Christians celebrate Christmas is to worship the baby Jesus, right? The One who was laid in a manger. The One who was born of a virgin. Well, Pastor Mike says, the baby in the manger would not mean anything if that same baby were not to die on a cross and then rise again. The end of our suffering, sadness, and sin is not lying in a manger but is hanging on a cross. Giving and receiving gifts, when done well, can be good. Gifts can even be great. Most of the time, however, we forget about them or let them collect dust. In this first episode of his new series, "Best Gifts Ever," Pastor Mike shares with you a gift that could never collect dust or get old: God's Word.To receive special text offers and stay up to date with the Time of Grace, text the word "Grace" to 45321 to subscribe! Presents are great. People are better. But the person who came down from heaven is THE best gift. That's the big idea behind Pastor Mike's new sermon series, "Best Gifts Ever." Dig deep with Pastor Mike and Amber Albee Swenson as they give a sneak peek into this series and cover a wide range of topics including why it's important for families to read the Bible together, why church is best when we're at our worst, and how Pastor Mike deftly slipped in a new slang word while talking to an auditorium of high schoolers. Pastor Mike also mentions this month's $350,000 Challenge Grant! That means your gift to Time of Grace will have TWICE the impact to help take our messages, devotions, podcasts, and resources to more people around the world in the new year. As a thank-you for your gift to the Challenge Grant, you can receive "The Basics," a book Pastor Mike wrote to help share the hope of Jesus with those who don't know Jesus.
