President Trump's mass deportation efforts have led to the arrests of tens of thousands of immigrants, some of whom end up at the Phelps County Jail in Rolla, Missouri. Now some local activists are trying to provide comfort and assistance to detainees stuck in an unfamiliar place.
It's Tuesday, July 1, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson and Adam McManus Chinese Communists give pastors 3 years in jail for leading church Three pastors from Linfen Covenant Home Church in Shanxi, China have been sentenced to 2-4 years of prison time for various charges related to their leading an unregistered church in the communist country. The church issued a statement, announcing that “We honor the service of Li Jie, Han Xiaodong, and Wang Qiang who suffered for righteousness, and we are willing to bear the cross with the Lord. We receive this verdict with a grateful and obedient heart.” Jesus offers this encouragement in Revelation 2:10 -- “Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.” Brazilian homeschool mother facing $20,000 of fines Today, a Brazilian court will hear a case of a mom prosecuted for homeschooling her son. Regiane Cichelero is facing fines of $20,000 and threats of losing custody of her child, for choosing home education on religious grounds. Alliance Defending Freedom International has taken up the case. Her legal counsel, Julio Pohl, pointed out that “No parent should fear state punishment for choosing to homeschool their child. Regiane made a lawful and conscientious decision to teach her son at home. We are hopeful that the court will affirm her rights and take an important step toward protecting parental rights in Brazil.” Regiane continues to homeschool despite the risks involved. Pray for this case, which may serve as a precedent for the other 70,000 homeschooled children in Brazil. Victory of Christian Colorado camp over transgender agenda Also, Alliance Defending Freedom has announced a favorable settlement for the Idrahaje Christian Camp in Bailey, Colorado. The camp was under threat of losing its license for refusing to submit to state requirements regarding the transgendering of bathrooms and living quarters. The name of the camp is taken from the phrase “I'd rather have Jesus more than anything!” They use the first two letters of the first four words. The State of Colorado agreed not to take any enforcement action against Camp IdRaHaJe for violation of the gender identity requirements. The state has also clarified in a memo on its website that “churches, synagogues, mosques, or any other place that is principally used for religious purposes” are exempt from the transgendering requirements. Syria's own government helped massacre 1,500 Alawites Reuters has reported on its investigation of the Syrian massacre of 1,500 Alawites in March of this year. The perpetrators included units belonging to the new government based in Damascus. Ahmed Hussein al-Sharaa of the Free Syrian Army and Al-Qaeda took over Syria in January of this year. The new government has also instituted a constitution stating that “The religion of the President of the Republic is Islam. … Islamic jurisprudence is the principal source of legislation.” This constitutes a step up in Islamic rule over Syria. According to Open Doors, Syria is the 18th most dangerous country worldwide for Christians. Iraq allows Muslim men to “marry” 9-year-old girls The new Iraqi government is also following Islamic Sharia law closely. Earlier this year, Iraq's parliament voted to give Islamic courts more control in family law, and permit child marriages for girls as young as nine years of age. Supreme Court allows parents to opt kids out & requires porn sites to verify age Here in America, the U.S. Supreme Court is allowing parents opt-out rights for their elementary-aged children from having to participate in homosexual-themed lessons. That comes by a vote of 6 to 3. Writing for the majority, Justice Samuel Alito emphasized that “What the parents seek here is not the right to micromanage the public school curriculum, but rather to have their children opt out of a particular educational requirement that burdens their well-established right ‘to direct ‘the religious upbringing' of their children'” under the free exercise clause of the First Amendment. Another 6-3 ruling, the High Court has also upheld a Texas Law requiring pornographic websites to verify users are over 18 years of age. Only adults will be allowed into these sinful activities. Writing for the majority, Justice Clarence Thomas concluded, ”The power to require age verification is within a State's authority to prevent children from accessing sexually explicit content.” But, in Matthew 5:27-28, Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.' But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” U.S. government buying its own bonds The U.S. government is buying back its own bonds. Barchart reports the largest buyback in history occurred earlier this month. Under the direction of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, the department bought $10 billion of its own bonds. Federal Reserve on the ropes The Federal Reserve issued $150 billion of bonds in May, but only managed to sell half of them. Also, the Fed has recorded its first two-year-in-a-row financial loss, totaling $192 billion in 2023 and 2024. This is the first time this has occurred in the Fed's 110-year history. Year to date, the federal deficit stands at $1.37 billion as of the end of May. That's 14% higher than last year at this time. Dad jumps into ocean off Disney Cruise ship to save daughter Here's a story demonstrating a remarkable act of courage and love on the part of a dad. A young child fell off the fourth deck of a Disney cruiseliner on Sunday. Her father took immediate action, dove in after her. . . and held her while treading water, until a rescue boat pulled them out of the ocean waters. An eyewitness explained what happened to WPLG News. EYEWITNESS: “They were playing shuffleboard that was on the fourth floor. The parents were playing, and then the little girl was climbing up on the railing and flew off.” One passenger said, “The ship was moving quickly, so quickly, it's crazy how quickly the people became tiny dots in the sea, and then you lost sight of them.” Another passenger said, “I saw the mother crying and but when they rescued them, I think that's when the tears really started flowing. I prayed to God to save them, and He did!” The Disney Dream was heading back from the Bahamas to Fort Lauderdale when the incident occurred. Worldview teens share their hearts 15-year-old Titus Beran in Omaha, Nebraska wrote me at Adam@TheWorldview.com. He said, “I love the verses included in the newscast! They really help me focus back on God's Word and bring every area of life, even politics and news, into captivity to the obedience of Christ.” And 16-year-old Leah Smith in Franklin, Kentucky wrote, “I have been subscribed to The Worldview in 5 Minutes for a little over a year. I don't watch the news on a regular basis, but have been continually blessed by the ministry of this website. It is so irregular to have such a concise, non-secular newscast that makes me aware of political news, needs of persecuted Christians, and even basic information that keeps me up to date on what is going on. “When I read your newscast transcript, I am not only encouraged by stories of fellow believers, but I am also moved to pray for the issues in our world. God is truly using your Christian newscast to reach people with the truth. It has been a blessing in my life!” What Troy's three boys enjoy about The Worldview Troy in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas talked to his three sons -- Sovereign, age 12, Shalom, age 10, and Apollos, age 7 -- about The Worldview. They said, “I like to start my morning at breakfast listening to it.” “I like how I get to hear about people around the world who need Jesus.” And “I like that I can hear the news which is filtered through a Biblical lens.” Troy added, “We praise the Lord for all of you and your diligent service to the Lord. It is so exciting to hear about donors from all over the world who are united to us in Christ. What an encouraging example to our younger generation. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.” 42 Worldview listeners gave $12,534.95 to fund our annual budget And finally, toward our $123,500 goal by yesterday, June 30, to fully fund The Worldview's annual budget for our 6-member team, 42 listeners stepped up to the plate. Since March 19, more than 200 U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainees have been held at the Phelps County Jail in Rolla, Missouri. Some are there for only one day, while others have been detained for more than two months. With no possessions and limited contact with family or legal help, many face an uncertain future. A group of about 50 local activists is stepping up, helping detainees reach their loved ones and offering small but meaningful acts of comfort and kindness. We talk about the work of Abide in Love with STLPR editors Jonathan Ahl and Brian Munoz.
“Abide in Love” is a group of 50 that help detainees with contacting their families and small acts of comfort and kindness as the jail has become part ICE holding facility.

May 26-June 1I grew up on a beautiful spread of woods and meadows near Rolla, Missouri. We had about 230 acres with our house up on the south hill overlooking a beautiful valley. A small stream called Spring Creek ran through the bottomlands and a narrow gravel road led from our home to the access road of old Highway 66. The view was so peaceful and beautiful. One late afternoon I stood outside with my Dad in our front yard looking over all of this beauty. Dad was a noted professor at the University of Missouri and for many years the Dean of the School of Science. He was brilliant. I'll never forget this moment together, because I asked Dad a question and the answer he gave me would change my life…

She is the founder of the Safina Filmmaker Project, an initiative to raise the voices of Palestinian filmmakers through free artistic mentorship. Rolla's storytelling is rooted in heartbreaking truths as well as inspiring artistry, which we'll surely be seeing in her next feature film, The Visitor. Rolla's joy in her Palestinian heritage is palpable and I am honored to share our conversation with you here. Rolla's IG Leah's IG

In this episode of the Postural Restoration podcast I am joined by Yoshi Mitsuyama, who currently resides in Nashville, TN. Yoshi started his athletic training career in Rolla, Missouri after graduating from Northern Colorado. While working as a collegiate athletic trainer in Rolla he had the opportunity to intern with Sporting KC and step into the world of professional soccer. It was here that Yoshi was introduced to PRI concepts from Kentaro Ishii who was working there at the time. Yoshi discusses seeing strange activities being performed early on in his internship and became interested in the reasoning behind the techniques he saw being performed. After being introduced to the science of PRI Yoshi signed up for all three primary courses at the same time, completing them in 3 months over the summer. Yoshi discusses his early years of implementing PRI and having a new tool to provide individualized programming. After several years implementing PRI within collegiate and professional settings in MO, Yoshi earned his PRT in 2018. Shortly after, he accepted an opportunity to move back to Colorado and accept a position with the Colorado Rapids. Building on his experience in MO, he was now able to provide one on one attention to professional soccer athletes while working alongside performance teams and other professionals who were apart of these athletes lives. Yoshi discusses the challenges of implementing a new approach within this team setting, and making sure that others involved were complimenting the PRI programming that these athletes were utilizing. One of the biggest aspects of bridging the gap between the performance side and "rehab" team, along with the athletes individual involvement, was determining what factors outside of their sport were affecting their performance. While performing at a high level is done day in and day out, the activities that are attempted outside of sport such as driving, sitting, walking etc. often cause tension, or autonomic tone, until addressed.Yoshi has also spent time clinically working alongside PRC Lisa Kelly, and through their partnership of "Tri-Planar Movement Therapies" he was able to see and implement PRI within a more clinical setting along with a totally new client population. This time together allowed Yoshi to gain appreciation for ongoing vestibular, dysautonomic issues that not only were these clinical patients experiencing but also the athletes alike. We discuss what some of the symptoms are that these populations are dealing with whether from concussions, orthostatic issues, past traumas or the umbrella term of dysautonomia. Since his time in CO, Yoshi has since moved to Nashville initially working with Nashville, FC and now working as a private consultant within his community. This has presented him with yet another population of people seeking out PRI treatment and he has began working alongside Erika Young (voice coach) to help singers gain control of their voice via PRI concepts of position, respiration and retraining their systems to allow proper pressure regulation for the production of sound. Throughout these diverse populations Yoshi has been a part of, We discuss how all of these cases have similar needs when it comes to ground sense, breathing mechanics and sense of ones self, whether kicking a soccer ball, singing on stage, or just trying to get out of bed. Yoshi will be presenting a live case study alongside Torin Berge as part of the 2025 PRI Interdisciplinary Studies Summit in April.

Mike Evans didn't start off with the dream of running a cookie empire, but that's the goal he's currently building on each and every day. He grew up surrounded by the food world but it wasn't the path he took originally. But a desire for entrepreneurship and a discovery on the internet about the possibility of warm cookies straight from a vending machine launched his company, Alibi Cookies. It started with that unique idea. A vending machine that serves up the perfect cookie for your snacking needs. Then it grew to a brick-and-mortar, the first location in Dogtown. And from there it continues to grow – all within just a few short years. We sat down with Mike to talk about the journey and the advice he has for other young entrepreneurs. Hope you're hungry because there's a lot of cookie chatter in this conversation. Locations in Dogtown, Kirkwood, Edwardsville and Statesville, NC. You can find the vending machine in Dogtown and Rolla, Mo.
My conversation with Palestinian filmmaker, director, writer, and teacher Rolla Selbak was an exchange of sweet and saltwater tides. I cried. Then she cried. Then I cried. And she cried. It was oceanic in its soulfulness, honesty, clarity, and Love offering for humanity. I had been yearning for this conversation since we met at the Los Angeles reading of the Gaza Monologues in January of this year (2024). I can't wait for you to listen to, feel, and be sown by this kinship river. Bless you.Rolla Selbak is an award-winning filmmaker and Sundance alumna, with multiple works optioned for development at 20th Century Fox and Sony Pictures Entertainment. She imprints her fresh point of view as a Palestinian American with deep, maternal roots in Jerusalem. Her recent screenplay, CHOKE, was a 2022 Winner of The Black List, and was based on her award-winning short film of the same name, both telling the story of a Syrian refugee who dreams of becoming an MMA champion.Other notable works include co-producing the Sundance 2017 short film AMERICAN PARADISE, which was later adapted into the Sundance-winning film LAST BLACK MAN IN SAN FRANCISCO, and helming the internationally acclaimed feature film “Three Veils”, a first of its kind to confront homosexuality within the Muslim-American subculture. She is currently embarking on her second feature film: THE VISITOR. Known as the Palestinian “Get Out”, the film is a psychological horror about a young Palestinian man who discovers that living life under an occupation can be just as sinister as the shapeshifting monsters in his grandmother's folktales.Selbak is the founder of the SAFINA FILMMAKER PROJECT, an initiative to raise the voices of Palestinian filmmakers through free artistic mentorship.ROLLASELBAK.COM@ROLLASELBAK (IG)Sacred Conversations are periodic episodes of my podcast in which I reach out to people whose work and life inspire me, and we simply have an old fashioned phone conversation. No video. No scripted, transactional, extractive, one-sided interview dynamic. Just two people with a care and curiosity for each other's journey, asking each other soulful questions, and enjoying the ancient, mutually healing art of listening deeply. Again, not an interview. A spiritual communion. The idea is for us to relax and enjoy an organic conversation, like over tea or breaking bread, and get to know each other along the way. Most people go through life almost on autopilot, especially when things are going well. We cruise through life and it can be hard to imagine life any other way. However, life can take a sudden left turn when tragedy or the unthinkable happens and our entire world is thrown into crisis. It can be hard to even know how to recover or figure out the next steps. That is what this episode is all about: preparing for the unthinkable. This is something that my guest, Meredith Flint Sowers Koen, knows about all too well. Meredith has owned and operated Flip-Flop Gymnastics in her hometown of Rolla, Missouri since 2004. But tragically in 2009, her life changed in an instant when her husband, Seth, was in a car accident that left him immobile and nonverbal due to a traumatic brain injury.Today, Meredith uses her experience to help others avoid the pitfalls of putting emergency planning on the back burner. Most importantly, she wants to show others the kind of love Christ has blessed her with as she navigates those twists and turns of life.In this episode, we talk about:How a normal August day took an unexpected turnThe age you should begin estate planningHelpful topics to discuss with your loved onesAnd so much more!I hope this conversation helps open your eyes to the importance of planning, even for the worst.Find resources mentioned and more on the show notes: https://jillsavage.org/meredith-koen-198Register for the Empty Nest Full Life Retreat September 27-29, 2024Check out our other resources: Mark and Jill's Marriage Story Marriage Coaching Marriage 2.0 Intensives Speaking Schedule Book Mark and Jill to Speak Online Courses Books Marriage Resources: Infidelity Recovery For Happy Marriages For Hurting Marriages For Marriages Where You're the Only One Wanting to Get Help Mom Resources: New/Preschool Moms Moms with Gradeschoolers Moms with Teens and Tweens Moms with Kids Who Are Launching Empty Nest...

The Missouri House has approved a proposed $46.4 billion state operating budget, which now heads across the Rotunda to the Senate. It includes a 3.2 percent pay raise for Jefferson City's approximately 14,000 state employees. It also contains $727 million to rebuild busy I-44, including placing six lanes in Springfield, Joplin and Rolla. "Missouri Times" publisher Scott Faughn joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri", telling listeners that he doubts whether Senate Appropriations Committee chair Lincoln Hough (R-Springfield) will even read the budget approved by the House. Mr. Faughn predicts there will be changes in the budget. We also discussed the House Ethics Committee's investigation into Missouri House Speaker Dean Plocher (R-Des Peres). Mr. Faughn predicts the committee's investigation into Speaker Plocher will be wrapped up before the Legislature leaves Jefferson City this week. Faughn tells listeners that the committee "doesn't have anything" and that Speaker Plocher filled out his expense reports incorrectly. Mr. Faughn also discussed Missouri's GOP gubernatorial primary in August:

How flattering it is when amazing Osteopathic Physicians call US to be on the podcast! In today's episode, we welcome Dr. Mary S. Doellman, a board-certified otolaryngologist and allergy physician (ENT) with Phelps Health in Rolla, MO. As an active duty physician, she served as chief otolaryngologist in Fort Leonard Wood, MO, and as a staff otolaryngologist at Fort Carson in Colorado.Dr. Doellman speaks not only about her passion for fungi, but gives us a detailed window into a specialty unique for its blend of surgery, medicine, complex pathology, and longitudinal care. She covers the topic of her rural and military upbringing and how this guided her path into similar circumstances in her professional career. She gives pertinent advice to female osteopathic physicians on how to succeed as a woman in medicine, specifically in a competitive surgical specialty. The interview highlights Dr. Doellman as a strong example of how dedication and persistance can allow an individual to carve a path straight through the heart of medicine to acheive their dreams. We know you find her as inspiring as we did!
Talking points: evolution, psychology, relationships, sexuality The field of evolutionary psychology has been on my mind a lot lately, but it can be hard to separate the real science from the stuff with an agenda. To that end, I sat down with David C. Geary to dig into the basics, and how even a little knowledge about things like sexual dimorphism and intrasexual aggression can bring a better understanding to modern relationships. Listen to this one if you want a solid intro to the existence and effects evolution might have on selecting a partner, friendships, overall culture, and more. (00:00:00) - Intro, defining evolutionary psychology, and what it has to offer in the context of modern relationships(00:04:59) - The main pillars of sexual selection(00:09:01) - Describing human sexual dimorphism, brain differences, and possible evolutionary benefits (00:21:07) - Why boys tend to be more interested in how objects work in space(00:28:22) - Why would men have evolved a larger lung capacity? (00:30:38) - We don't compete for mates in the same ways anymore, but are attraction cues the same?(00:35:06) - Defining intrasexual aggression(00:44:28) - The evolutionary case for vulnerability(00:49:28) - David's take on modern dating(00:56:29) - What an evolutionary vulnerability really means(01:02:25) - How are dating and relationships going to shift in the future? David C. Geary is a cognitive scientist and evolutionary psychologist with interests in mathematical cognition and learning as well as the biological bases of sex differences. After receiving his Ph.D. in 1986 from the University of California at Riverside, he held faculty positions at the University of Texas at El Paso and the University of Missouri, first at the Rolla campus and then in Columbia.
