Johnny Doskow spent 22 years calling every pitch of River Cats games from 2001 until the A's hired him in the Fall of 2022. Calling play-by-play at the Triple A level is a lot of fun and it was something like 'If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it doesn't.' I was at peace with it the last five or six years where I looked at I'm an age where it probably won't happen. Let's be honest. Let's be realistic about it. But I never gave up hope and always wanted to get to the next level."

Episode No. 573 features artists Matthew Ronay and Jade Doskow. The Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas is presenting "Matthew Ronay: The Crack, the Swell, an Earth, an Ode" through January 15, 2023. The exhibition features a nearly 24-foot-long sculpture that functions as both an introduction to Ronay's exploration of surrealism, abstraction, representation and art's history, and also as a summary of the last decade of his work. The exhibition was curated by Leigh Arnold and is accompanied by a catalogue published by the Nasher and Gregory R. Miller & Co. Indiebound and Amazon offer it for about $55. Ronay's work has been featured in solo shows at the Blaffer Art Gallery and at the Pérez Art Museum Miami. He has been included in group shows at the Dallas Museum of Art, the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Williams College Museum of Art, and more. The John Hartell Gallery at the Cornell University College of Architecture, Art, and Planning is presenting "A New Wilderness: Freshkills." The exhibition features photographs by Freshkills photographer-in-residence Jade Doskow and a series of soundscapes by Heather Campanelli. The work shows the evolution of Staten Island's Freshkills from a landfill -- the world's largest household garbage dump -- into a 2,200-acre city park. The exhibition is on view through November 4. She is best known for her long-term projects ‘Freshkills' and ‘Lost Utopias' as well as additional bodies of work examining architecture and the cityscape. Her photographs haven been featured and reviewed internationally, including The New York Times, Aperture, Photograph, Architect, Wired, Musée Mag, Smithsonian, and more. Johnny Doskow returns to the Life Around the Seams podcast to discuss his new book: "GOODNIGHT EM: Baseball and Life Through Haiku."   Doskow is the voice of the Sacramento River Cats, the Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. Dosky explained how he always enjoyed writing haiku poems, then used the pandemic to get serious about writing hundreds that could be turned into this book.   I picked out some of my favorites, read them aloud, and then we flapped about some of the details behind each haiku. Since 2007, American photographer Jade Doskow has been documenting the remains of World’s Fair sites, once iconic global attractions that have often been repurposed for less noble aspirations or neglected and fallen into decay. Lost Utopias (Black Dog Publishing, 2016) brings together the substantial body of work that Doskow has completed over the past decade, including iconic monuments such as the Seattle Space Needle, the Eiffel Tower, Brussels Palais des Expositions and New York’s Unisphere. Charles S. Doskow is Dean Emeritus and Professor of Law at the University of La Verne College of Law in Ontario. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin and Harvard Law School, he was in private practice in Upland for many years, after serving as counsel for Dart Industries, Inc. in Los Angeles, and for Lewis Homes, in Upland. He served as Dean of the College of Law from 1980 to 1985, and presently teaches Constitutional Law and Professional Responsibility at La Verne. Professor Doskow is Past President of the San Bernardino County and Western San Bernardino County Bar Associations, and the Inland Empire Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. He currently serves on the FBA Inland Empire chapter board. Professor Doskow has written several law review articles, is a frequent contributor to the editorial pages of the Los Angeles Daily Journal, and has published articles in the American Bar Association's Professional Lawyer and the Federal Lawyer. In addition he has reviewed several books on constitutional law and history in the Federal Lawyer. He has appeared as a commentator on constitutional and other legal issues on KPCC pubic radio (89.3) and Time Warner Cable Local Edition. In 2007 he served as an American Bar Association consultant for the Rule of Law Initiative in the Kingdom of Jordan, and offered a course in common law torts at the University of Muenster in Germany.
