Born in Las Vegas, raised in Kingman, AZ and now loyal Angeleno since 2002. Nathan's beer-evangelist journey began one fateful day in 2002 after moving to LA and ordered Stone's IPA. It was love at first sip. True to his inquisitive nature, and newfound patronage at Eagle Rock Brewery, he dove into the world of homebrewing and realized the creative nature of brewing, recipe formulation and experimentation.Having overcome late stage, non-Hodgkin's, Burkitt lymphoma at the mere age of 8, Nathan has always been a philanthropist. Having 15 years of experience working in the non-profit sector with the American Cancer Society and raising funds for type 1 diabetes at JDRF, Nathan has spent much of his life building and supporting various communities. Fostering our own community at Angry Horse Brewing and contributing to the LA beer scene is exactly what Nathan is set out to do.Instagram: @angryhorsebrewingWebsite: angryhorsebrewing.com_____________ Music Podcast Intro and OutroEveryday, Jason Farnhmam, YouTube Audio Library Podcast AdvertisementI love you, Vibe Tracks, YouTube Audio Library Sour Tennessee Red (Sting), John Dewey and the 41 Players, YouTube Audio Library Dewey, Cheedham, and Howe (Sting), John Dewey and the 41 Players, YouTube Audio Library Film Project Countdown.flac Copyright 2013 Iwan Gabovitch, CC-BY3 license

On this episode we’re discussing the history of women in beer and uncovering the truth about whether or not women dominated brewing until they were accused of being witches. If you listened to the podcast's debut episode discussing the history of beer in ancient cultures, you know that women were some of the first brewers. I chat with Dr. Christina Wade, historian, archaeologist, president of the Ladies Craft Beer Society of Ireland, co-host of the Beer Ladies Podcast and founder of the project Braciatrix, latin for “brewster” and “alewife,” which digs deep into the history of women in beer. Also I review a few beers brewed by women here in my home of Los Angeles from Eagle Rock Brewery and Highland Park Brewery. For podcast updates, behind the scenes content, brewing tutorials and beer reviews follow Sarah Flora on Instagram at @Flora_Brewing, subscribe to the Flora Brewing YouTube Channel or sign up for her Patreon for ad-free content, merch and lots more!

Established in 2009 by Jeremy Raub, his wife, Ting Su, and father, Steven, Eagle Rock Brewery was the first microbrewery to open its operations in the city of Los Angeles in over 60 years. This family-owned microbrewery is dedicated to the production of artisanal beers using the best ingredients, and to the ongoing development of the beer community in Los Angeles. Their brewing philosophy is to make high-quality beers that are well-balanced and approachable. The wide range of styles and flavors are created specifically to appeal to both beer aficionados and newcomers to the craft beer community, and are a testament to the technical merit and drinkability of their products. Local Source is a Helles-style Lager brewed in collaboration with the Theodore Payne Foundation, and uses the So-Cal-native plants Woolly Blue Curls, Bay Laurel, and Black Sage. It also has a crisp taste with a biscuity flavor. This week on FDB - Jared’s on Bumble, a classic showdown of man vs. seagull, cat’s are registered to vote, and more! Talking education, diversity, and building a beer program in Los Angeles with Ting Su, the co-founder of Eagle Rock Brewery.
Offshoot beer company is, if you will, an offshoot of The Bruery. Their wheelhouse? Hoppy beers. Think "IPA" and "Double IPA". And other stuff that has the acronym "IPA'' in the name. Pretty much any hoppy eruption that excites and tantalizes the taste buds is fair game. Their 16-0z. cans are released in limited supply and sold in 4-packs directly from the brewery for fresh enjoyment. The Bruery promised to never make an IPA, certainly not because they don't like them, but because they wanted to focus on achieving a flavor profile rather than making a beer to fit in a certain style. They've kept their promises, and will likely continue to do so ... for the most part. That's when they created Offshoot Beer Company. Retreat (This is a Hazy Double IPA) is laced with delicate and aromatic tropical notes, along with a bright berry medley and a crisp mouthfeel. It’s like diving into the Pacific on a 90 degree day. This week on FDB - we have sound effects! Plus, a woman definitely does not pass her drug test, a carjacker steals more than a car, a cat breaks into a prison, and more! Now please kick back, and enjoy another sit down with Friends Drink Beer. To support Offshoot Beer Company and find out more about their beers, visit: Website: offshootbeer.com Instagram: @offshootbeerco BEER EVENT OF THE WEEK EVENT: Eagle Rock Brewery Turns Ten WHERE: Eagle Rock Brewery in Eagle Rock, CA WHEN: January 18, 2020 WHAT: Hey y'all! “Ahhhhh!” screamed the guest! And that guest, Ellen Clifford, is joined by her cohost of The Wine Situation podcast, Shaughn Buchholz, to discuss her fearful reaction to beer. For the tasting, they serve up Stella Artois, a german pilsner from Eagle Rock Brewery, 21st Amendment’s Hell or High Watermelon, Sierra Nevada’s Kolsch and a homemade Hefeweizen. To eat, beer cheese dip, beer bread, Guinness Lentil and Mushroom Pie and a Shake chocolate porter ice cream with chocolate covered pretzels.
All episodes in June 2018 will feature LA craft brewers and our Brewery Month kicks off with Jeremy Raub of Eagle Rock Brewery who has Winston/David serving up natto, a Japanese fermented soybean dish. For Hot Tastes, Winston thinks that meatballs are a superior pizza topping to sausage, while David feels that any flavor that can’t be juiced shouldn’t be in beer (i.e. peanut butter). For the tasting, one homemade batch and three varieties of store-bought natto are served up with rice and scallions.
