It's been far too long since we've had Peter from AleSmith in the studio, so this week we get him to take a break and drink some beers as we get ready for the Rancho Beer-nardo festival this weekend. We kick things off with an amazingly crushable lager that might have you convinced that you're enjoying a Peach soda or maybe even a peach seltzer.

Keeping with this week's quest to find Oktoberfest beers available at a store near you, I grabbed a sixer of AleSmith/AleSchmidt Oktoberfest Marzen Lager. For fans of more malt-forward beers, this traditional style Marzen always delievers in bolt and robust flavors but still light a very drinkable.

AleSmith is celebrating its 30th anniversary with momentum behind new products – in and out of beer – and a growing contract brewing business.    In this episode of the Brewbound Podcast, AleSmith president Brandon Richards shares how the San Diego craft brewery has evolved to meet drinkers' needs with new products while fortifying its business by brewing for others.    Richards explains how the Party Tricks IPA line and addition of Sun Path fruited lager line have driven growth for the company. Party Tricks has helped “turn the business around” over the last two years, he says.    In 2025, AleSmith expects to double its contract volume year-over-year with plans for more in 2026. The company is in the process of completing facility upgrades to enable spirits-based RTD production that will expand its consumer base as well as its own product mix.   AleSmith is expanding its flagship Speedway Stout brand for its first spirit-based offering with Speedway Espresso Martini, and the company is adding a second spirit-based ready-to-drink (RTD) line with Hoptails, which Richards believes is a first-to-market product as a hard hop water cocktail.    Richards also gives insights into what AleSmith is looking for in a contract partner, what he believes the brewery offers its clients and how much volume the company has earmarked for co-packing in 2026.    Before the interview, the Brewbound team breaks down the biggest industry headlines, including Charlie Sheen's non-alc beer, Molson Coors' new CEO, investors' lawsuit against Island Brands and Boston Beer's winning pick for The Summer I Turned Pretty.

From working in her local beer bar, she moved her expertise and passion for the industry over to the US where she became the Head Beer Buyer at Whole Foods Market.From there she ventured into B2B sales as the Southern California off-trade representative for Stone Distribution, navigating a fiercely independent portfolio of over 50 suppliers including Alesmith, Russian River and El Segundo Brewery across the golden coast.And after returning to the UK, Bec has since worked as national sales manager for Deya Brewing Co and recently joined the team at Sellar as buyer success manager. In this podcast, she asks: "Who should be in the driving seat for your next beer?”. Wrapping up a fantastic week with AleSmith as they brought one more beer from their line up of Coffee & Beer collaborations! Tapping an Ohio brewery Masthead Brewing for a good Ohio winter-time Barleywine partnered with their local roaster Six Shooter Coffee, this 9% ABV beer will give you a nice "Malt Jacket" to keep the frost off ya.

San Diego IPAs are kind of a big deal, but AleSmith Party Tricks brings all the friends to the yard! Putting a twist on the normal SD citrus bomb AleSmith pulls a little trick with the hop selection that gives this grapefruit forward IPA a very strawberry-esque finish. There's a reason if you bring this beer to a party, you'd be smart to tuck a few cans in your cargo pants.

AleSmith does cider?! Yes! New to the line up of amazing well made AleSmith Beers, AleSmith has expanded to making cider and option in their tasting room. But, don't get scared by the name "dry" it's got a little more So Cal sweetness than your traditional English dry.

Didn't have to wait long to taste what's happening at AleSmith this weekend! Today Kristen and Peter have brought the Colab with Arizona Wilderness Brewing Co & Peixoto Coffee Roasters for a Flat White Inspired Blonde Ale. Using coffee cured with the cherry on gives this Latin American Coffee a subtle sweetness to go with it's light acidicness that is supported by the malt of the Blonde Ale with a little hint of lactose.

AleSmith has rolled out another year of their Coffee and Beer festival at the brewery, so this week we'll celebrate with some beers from that event. First, we kick things in gear with something light and brand new from AleSmith, Anvil Pilsner! Crisp and clean inspired from European lagers it's a refreshing way to end a Monday.

Speedway Stout it a decades old AleSmith tradition that keeps getting better.  Once only reserved for 24K gold glad bottles, this 12% AVB Imperial Stout can now be found everywhere in 16oz 4-packs.  But, don't let the form factor fool you, every ounce of craft and flavor is still intact.  In fact at first sip you may question if this beer is really 12%, that is until you try and stand up.

Petco Park is known for having some of the best food in baseball. They were even one of the first stadiums in the nation to bring in iconic and emerging local restaurants, craft beers, wine, and cocktails for a more upscale experience (we still love a good, classic hot dog). On this episode of Happy Half Hour, co-hosts Troy and David get the inside scoop on the ballpark's food and drink scene at Alesmith's 394 bar inside of Petco. With a stadium that holds nearly 50,000 visitors, vice president of hospitality Josh Momberg says that the most challenging obstacle is serving fresh food. It's no joke feeding nearly 3M people each year, especially when not every visitor is there to actually watch the game. How do you keep your aunt entertained who only began watching the Padres once they started winning last year? A beautiful stadium, perfect weather, craft cocktails, and bacon-wrapped jalapenos that will immediately turn anyone into a sports fan. Ask any attendee and you'll likely start an argument over which restaurant inside the ballpark is the best. Hodad's, a local favorite, often tops the list, but then again, you can't forget about that juicy, tender Cardiff crack tri-tip nachos at Seaside Market. They're wrong, though, it's anything at Grand Ole BBQ y Asado. “When we went into this mission of creating this local program, we wanted to get the best of everything so that if you only came to one place in San Diego, had three hours to watch a ballgame, you got to sample something that's uniquely a slice of San Diego here,” Josh shares. So, what's new this year? Plenty. Some standouts include Mexican street corn made with chiles, fuego sauce, lime crema, and a Tahine pop rock; and fresh Blue Water Seafood's fish tacos. Although technically introduced in 2022, Troy and David gush over Hot Hens with Petco's executive chef Phil Dumlao. The fried chicken sandwich comes in a mini food truck carrier decked out in City Connect colors—because why not? In food news, David forgets where he lives as he brings up the upcoming Falafel Heights opening in North Park from owner Lialie Ibrahim. A Palestinian and first-generation American, Ibrahim spent more than a decade perfecting her falafel recipe and now hopes to bring those authentic Middle Eastern flavors to San Diego. Barn Brewing closes in North Park, Young Cluck opens in Normal Heights, Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream comes to North Park with an everything bagel scoop that David says “kind of tastes like garlic ice cream.” In “Two People, Fifty Bucks,” Josh shouts out The Belly of the Beast ramen at Underbelly Ramen, Phil tips his hat to the burger at The Friendly, Troy picks the vegetarian tasting menu dish at Ambrogio by Acquerello, and David goes for the motherclucker at Hillcrest's Sunnyboy Biscuit Company.
