In this week's episode of the Plural Pod, it's the latest instalment of ‘From Me To You'. The format is nice and straightforward: Joel picks an album for Gareth that he's never heard before and Gareth picks an album for Joel that he's never heard before. After some intensive listening, they reconvene to share their thoughts. That conversation is what you can hear in today's podcast. Gareth's been listening to The Smashing Pumpkins' ‘Siamese Dream', while Joel has wrapped his ears around Sunhouse's ‘Crazy On The Weekend'. But how did they find them? For this week's episode of the Plural Pod, Gareth and Joel continue their holiday specials. With all due respect to both The Beatles and The Chuckle Brothers, this one is entitled ‘From Me To You'. Gareth picked an album for Joel to hear for the first time and Joel returned the favour for Gareth. If you'd like to listen first so that you know what is being talked about, it's Tracey Thorn's ‘Record' and Jellyfish's ‘Spilt Milk'. They each explain their reasons for nominating their respective album before hearing what those initial listens were like. Expect opinions. Peter went on to have an illustrious career in the music business, first as the head of A&R for Apple Records where he signed a then-unknown James Taylor, then as producer for many artists including Linda Ronstadt, and currently as the host of “From Me To You”, a weekly Beatles show on Sirius/XM. Jeremy was half of Chad & Jeremy who had several big hits including “Yesterday's Gone” and “A Summer Song”. Some of my friends are still in NOLA and I treasure that city so much. If you don't know what NOLA stand for by now, New Orleans, LA. One of the best cities hands down in the country for music. If you're in NOLA and have heard of the Saturn Bar, great venue to go to! My friends went there and saw this indie pop alt rock band called HEY THANKS! My friends said you have got to interview them on your podcast so shoutout to them. I DMed them on IG and was like hey wanna be on the podcast??? A little bit about the band Hey Thanks! emerged from Lafayette. Most of the band members went to school together and have released some singles and an EP called Nothing It Would Change, Nothing I Could Say. They have performed at not only Saturn Bar but the Republic, The Metro, Gasa Gasa, and many more NOLA venues. In this episode, I'll be chatting with the band leader Travis and the guitarist Alex. They are going to share their backstory with the band, their songwriting process, the best experiences as a band to the times where they had to fix their van on the side of the road in Texas. Hey Thanks! has achieved some great accomplishments and announcements including being recently signed to a record label Iodine Records, a new LP coming out Start Living on May 27th. Also, Hey Thanks! is doing a "run" March 11th-14th which will be held at Midcity Ballroom in Baton Rouge. We will also take a listen to two of their songs including This Small Space and From Me To You. Credits: This Small Space: Artist - Hey Thanks! Management- Hey Thanks! Hello Friends! On this fine Tuesday afternoon I thought I'd treat my listeners, by sharing an example of the sort of exclusive content supporters over at the Back to Mono Patreon have access to, with an episode of Mixology on 45, the Patreon-Only series where I take a look at non album A and B-sides, and their many occurring mix differences. With this in mind, I've decided to dig out my episode on The Beatles' 3rd single, From Me To You. Here's the original description from my Patreon: In the 3rd installment of Mixology on 45, we're jumping to 1963, with the 3rd single from The Beatles, the great 'From Me To You', and it's flipside 'Thank You, Girl'. These tracks have an interesting history, with From Me To You being mixed in to stereo in 1966 for 'A Collection of Beatles Oldies', and Thank You Girl getting a stereo mix for 'The Beatles' Second Album' in the States, but this was only released after Dexterization. The EMI Stereo mix was not released until 2009! With differences focussed heavily on echo and harmonica, it's once again a rollicking good time with the Fab Four! With this in mind, if you wish to access the rest of the ever growing catalog of Mixology on 45 episodes, as well as extended Back to Mono episodes, Longplayers in Mono, and even Artists in Mono, you can do so at patreon.com/backtomono Happy Listening, Frederick
