Brady talks with Eric Eaton of the St. Mike's MBB program about his team's 21-7 record, being the No. 1 seed in the NE-10 Tournament, his kids winning a state title at Rice and much more.
It's Friday! And we start with Patriots coach Jerod Mayo backtracking comments he made that the team will "burn some cash" this offseason. And, what should Eliot Wolf and the organization's pitch be to current free agents? Then later, St. Michael's men's basketball coach Eric Eaton joins the show. The Purple Knights are the top seed heading into their postseason.
In this episode, I sit down with Eric Eaton, author of Insectpedia: a Brief Compendium of Insect Lore, Wasps: The Astonishing Diversity of a Misunderstood Insect, and more!Wasps are far more diverse than the familiar yellowjackets and hornets that harass picnickers and build nests under the eaves of our homes. These amazing, mostly solitary creatures thrive in nearly every habitat on Earth, and their influence on our lives is overwhelmingly beneficial. Wasps are agents of pest control in agriculture and gardens. They are subjects of study in medicine, engineering, and other important fields. Wasps pollinate flowers, engage in symbiotic relationships with other organisms, and create architectural masterpieces in the form of their nests. From minute fairyflies to gargantuan tarantula hawks, wasps exploit almost every niche on the planet. So successful are they at survival that other organisms emulate their appearance and behavior. The sting is the least reason to respect wasps and, as you will see, no reason to loathe them, either. Eric Eaton is an entomologist and the well known author of Wasps: The Astonishing Diversity of a Misunderstood Insect, and co-author of the Kaufman Field Guide to Insects of North America. Today, we discuss his most recent work, Insectpedia, due out on May 3. Insectpedia promises to be a fascinating and non-traditional look at insects, the people who study them, and their role in history and society. In today's discussion, we spent a few minutes learning about Eric's non-traditional path to entomology and writing, and the lasting impact of one of his kindergarten teachers. And soon enough we get into some amazing entomological facts. For example, do you know what the fly belt is? As a hint, I'll tell you it's not a leather strip used to keep a fly's pants from falling off. Joking aside, you will hear exactly what the fly belt is and how the tsetse fly is filling a preservationist role. You'll also learn about parasitoids - and specifically, the differences between parasites and parasitoids. You'll hear how a wasp targets yellow jacket wasps, but only indirectly through a third party caterpillar. Prepare to have your mind blown. And Eric tells us why aphids are actually really important to our food web. And as frequent listeners know, I love aphids because of those links to the food web.Eric also gives us some perspective on how we, as individuals, can help make societal-level shifts to improve our environment. And stick around to the end - Eric has plenty of fine book recommendations, too (all are listed in the full show notes). You can find Eric @bugeric on Twitter and bug_eric on iNaturalist, and on Facebook. Brady sits down with current St. Michaels College basketball coach and longtime D-1 assistant Eric Eaton to talk about how teams like UVM prepare for the NCAA Tournament, how you beat a team like Arkansas and where his program is at currently in its rebuild.
Brady is back on a Tuesday talking about the Patriots inactivity in free agency and the teams decision to trade Shaq Mason today. Also, we continue to break down UVM as get ready for the NCAA Tournament. We talk with Eric Eaton, the St. Mike's hoops coach, about the tournament itself as he coached in it seven times, Brady says UVM needs to create another tournament memory and Alex Cora and Matt Barnes talk from Red Sox ST.
Eric R. Eaton is a writer and is author of Wasps: The Astonishing Diversity of a Misunderstood Insect (Princeton University Press, 2021), and the forthcoming Insectpedia (Princeton University Press, 2022). He is also lead author of the Kaufman Field Guide to Insects of North America (Houghton Mifflin Company, 2007), and co-author of Insects Did It First (Xlibris, 2018) with Gregory S. Paulson. He has contributed to several other books including Wild in the City: a guide to Portland's natural areas (Oregon Historical Society Press, 2000); and has written articles about insects and other animals for Natural History, Birds and Blooms, Ranger Rick, Missouri Conservationist, and other magazines. Eric studied entomology at Oregon State University, and has worked as an entomologist at the University of Massachusetts (Amherst), Cincinnati Zoo, and Chase Studio, Inc., as well as on private contract for the Smithsonian Institution, and West Virginia Division of Natural Resources. Eric writes the blogs Bug Eric and Sense of Misplaced and as "Bug Eric" he has built a loyal following on social media (Facebook, Twitter, iNaturalist). We speak about Eric's career trajectory as an entomologist which doesn't follow the typical academic route, we spoke about some our shared frustrations with academia and how it can impact your love and motivation for science, and of course, we spoke about wasps - about how and why they make us feel they way they do, about how interesting and diverse they are outside of yellow-jackets and hornets, and how we can learn to appreciate what we've been trained not to.
Chapel member Eric Eaton guides Day in the Country visitors through the Chapel of the Cross, the Churchyard, and the Chapel of the Resurreciton.
The arthro-pod team had the pleasure of interviewing Eric Eaton, an author and professional entomologist, who is a true maverick in creating opportunities for himself. Though he holds no degree in entomology, he has established himself a science communicator and entomology expert on several platforms. Find out why pursuing a degree in entomology was a disappointment to him, how he struggled with career identity for several years, the challenges and joys of being a writer, the problem with industry and science, and advice for young people with an interest in entomology.Show notes:Wasps: The Astonishing Diversity of a Misunderstood Insecthttps://press.princeton.edu/books/hardcover/9780691211428/waspsKaufman field guide of insects,https://www.hmhbooks.com/shop/books/kaufman-field-guide-to-insects-of-north-america/9780618153107Insects Did it Firsthttps://www.xlibris.com/en/bookstore/bookdetails/787748-insects-did-it-firstHow to find Eric on Social Media:Bug Eric Blog: http://bugeric.blogspot.com/ Twitter: @BugEric https://twitter.com/BugEric Questions? My guest today's first season was in Club Med Turks & Caicos in February of 1987 as a Windsurf G.O. Only here's the thing-he wasn't a windsurfer! I'll let him tell that funny story as well as a great JoJo story and another one that involves American currency washing up on the beach one morning. Originally from San Diego and now living in La Jolla, California, please help me welcome the always entertaining, Eric Eaton! Listen here or wherever you get your podcasts.
Wasps!? Don't even THINK of skipping this one, my beautiful chickens. You're about to change your outlook on the most maligned winged sky babies, and we are delighted that author, bug dude, and spheksologist Eric Eaton is about to change your mind and fill your heart with respect and appreciation. Hunker down for fig critters, bejeweled zombie queens, bug corsets, underdogs, BBQ tips, gardening secrets, stinger myths and snack vaults. Just because homicidal hornets make headlines doesn't mean you know squat about the real life of the beautifully diverse world of wasps, from the teeny tiny to the large and legendary. Not only do you get to hear what types of players @Eric Eaton recruits to his program, you get to hear a few memories from our days at Quinnipiac! I also gave Coach Eaton a chance to tell a funny story about me at the end, you won't want to miss it
Brady sits down with St. Michaels College men's basketball coach Eric Eaton to talk about the cancellation of the Northeast-10 season and championships, if the Purple Knights will play this season in any form, recruiting during a pandemic and much more.
Brady is back talking about Freddie Coleman's claims that the Patriots season is a failure with no playoffs and he brings on CBS Sports broadcaster Ian Eagle to preview Pats and Dolphins for Sunday. He also says the Red Sox are making a mistake in their offseason approach and he discusses how Dolphins coach Brian Flores was not being truthful when discussing Cam Newton. Also, I hope that St. Michaels College invests in athletics because MBB coach Eric Eaton has me impressed.
Broadcasts of the best of POM with new Zoom segments can be heard on WMPG Saturdays 9-10am!
RN, model and one of Glenn’s “boys”, Eric Eaton makes an amazing in person return in the Pews. The episode commences with: Eric walking into the wrong door on his way into the studio, explaining his training diet of grass fed ground beef, grits and rice, Jacob calling in after a major purchase, E says how nervous he was to receive the admonition he knew was coming, his introduction to “Spike”, rating his best heterosexual experiences, and the progress of his comfort with being a gay man. Then Glenn and EZ discuss a “Dick Measuring Contest” Nelg had, mindfulness practice, E’s kinks (which literally comes up later in the show), his professional challenges as a nurse with COVID, his time at Marine Boot Camp, Jacob’s and Eric’s masks’ stories, virtual signaling, the threesomes’ shared love of Tampa Bay Lightning Hockey, why E stopped shaving his body hair, his pattern of pulling out of things hence his self-described “Mr. Runaway”, the Coach’s analysis of why Eric may keep repeating it, then his kink comes into focus, Glenn’s response is dissected, the power of vulnerability, authenticity and bukkake. Plus, so much more! The Post Game Show includes music from "Oklahoma". It ain’t going to be boring. Powerful and poignant adult content, insight, humor and spirituality. NSFW or children. A portion of all proceeds donated to combat human sex slave trafficking and genital mutilation.
Eric Eaton- Eric Eaton: I help individuals and organizations find harmony among the chaos of life by providing a proven process to thrive in life instead of surviving. WHY IT MATTERS: You have employees, students, or faculty who are not performing at their peak due to overwhelming distractions. Think about what your organization could accomplish if the unnecessary distractions were removed from the workplace. WHY IT WORKS: When you partner with me you get the most efficient and effective service that your organization is looking for right now. Individuals who are less distracted are more productive, more focused, and experience less stress on the job. HOW I DO IT: I utilize a PROVEN FRAMEWORK which will evaluate the current distractions in your organization from emails, meetings, texts, and notifications. We work closely with individuals and teams to focus in on their immediate goals. We then develop a plan for individuals and teams to eliminate the distractions which are keeping them from accomplishing their fundamental goals. WHY IT WORKS: An unhappy and distracted employee is an unproductive employee. From CEO’s to first year hires, when an individual is able to focus on a task, without distraction, they are more productive and happy with their work. This practice can also provide a more effective work/life harmony which attributes to greater satisfaction in their career. WHY I CAN HELP YOU: I have spent over 20 years consulting, coaching, and counseling individuals and organizations. I have seen firsthand how ineffective management and distractions can bring down the most powerful organizations. I have used these experiences to build an effective process to help individuals and organization remove the distractions which are keeping them from their goals. To help them truly find harmony among the chaos of work and life. Website: eric@ericpeaton.com Listen to another #12minconvo
Eric Eaton’s remarkable story winds its way through a young adulthood of sexual suppression, drug addiction, to being thrown out of the U.S. Marine Corp, to hospitalization for a near death heart infection, to living a healthy, vibrant life as a personal trainer, registered nurse and a proud gay man. The episode begins with Mat Garcia explaining her disappointment in what she thought was going to be a “dinner and dick date”. A discussion ensues about how things which can be normally quite painful can become very pleasurable during sexual arousal. When Eric joins us in the Pews we learn of his childhood experiences in the Catholic Church, his feelings of condemnation and guilt over his sexuality and his early attempts at being straight. We hear of his effort to escape the trauma through drugs and the Marines before almost dying in a Tampa area hospital before finally coming out to a nurse who had become a friend, his family and Glenn (who has known Eric since he was a boy). This wonderful story of overcoming religious and societal sexual repression finishes with a lot of fun including a revelation of why men give men and women give women the best oral sex and some solid advice about it, plus much, much more! This one ain’t going to be boring and by sharing it you may change someone’s life who is living in the darkness of a closeted existence or who condemns people for whom they love. NSFW or children. Strong Sexual Content, Language, Humor, Insight and Condemnation of Religion. A portion of all proceeds donated to combat human sex slave trafficking and genital mutilation.

Long time, no podcast. Apologies! There's nothing like a little struggle in life to keep you from doing what you want to do. Ironically, the episode I wrestled with most is the one geared toward helping with that! Episodes 3 and 4 were recorded on the same day. I thought I had struggles and here Eric deals with chronic pain - and he had to do a double interview in one day! I don't know why I've had such difficulty with this one except that maybe it's because Eric's message is one that needs to be heard. Maybe it could even save a life! I know all too well the effects of Resitance - the opposition that prevents us from taking action. But I'm learning how to resist that resistance. Slowly but surely, I'm learning. Please bear with me. I'm just an ordinary person trying to do extraordinary things. :) Eric's book is called The Raging Sloth - An Upside-Down Blueprint to Bust Your Limits, Build Your Purpose, and Balance Your Life.
