Fix Your Eyes on Jesus Series
Life is a race. You have to run it. And it's not always easy — there are hills, obstacles, and moments when you want to quit. So how do you keep going? In any race, you keep your eyes on the finish line. And in the race of life, that finish line has a name: Jesus. On this Pentecost Sunday — the day the Holy Spirit came to empower the Church — Pastor Ben Kuerth opens Hebrews 12 to show us something incredible: the same God who sent His Spirit to fuel His people is also the One cheering us on, right alongside the faithful who ran before us. The sufferings He allows along the way aren't meant to break you — they're meant to build you. Your Heavenly Father wants you to finish this race even more than you do. Jesus didn't just set the example. He ran His race all the way to the cross — for you. He crossed the finish line. He made it possible for you to experience eternal joy with Him. That is the hope that carries us through every hard step. Fix your eyes on Jesus. He is the way. He is the finish line.
Comparison, bitterness, disappointment, and hopelessness all begin to shape us when our eyes are fixed in the wrong direction. In week two of our Imprinted series, Pastor Bobby walks through Psalm 73 and the honest struggle of feeling frustrated when life doesn't seem fair. Through the poetry of Asaph, this message explores how comparison steals joy, how bitterness takes root, and how the presence of God is the only thing that truly restores our perspective. No matter what season you're walking through, this sermon is a reminder that what we focus on shapes the way we see everything — and when we turn our eyes back to Jesus, temporary things stop pretending to be ultimate things.

The blind man near Jericho saw what many with physical sight could not: Jesus is the Messiah. In Luke 18, his faith pushed past the crowd, cried out for mercy, and received healing from the Lord. This episode reminds us that spiritual healing begins when we see our need, seek Christ in faith, and keep our focus fixed on Him.

1. The Practice of StillnessHe says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.I Kings 19:11-122. What wind and waves have caught your attention? What storm has caused you to look away from Jesus? Let's learn what Peter learned. We must keep our eyes on Jesus. As the howl of the wind gets louder, we'll be tempted to become distracted. As the waves crash higher, we'll be enticed to look away. Main Points:1. Jesus is teaching us here that we are to keep our eyes on Him. No matter how big the storm is, Jesus is sufficient to see us through. The storm did not overwhelm Peter and his fellow disciples. Why? Because Jesus was with them.2. Let's hear the words of our savior. “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” In our humanity, we experience doubt when our problems become bigger to us than God. We battle doubt because we don't always know what God will do. We don't know how we will face this storm.3. Don't forget, you are not facing this storm alone. The one who is greater than the storm is with you. He has promised to never leave you or forsake you. He will get you out of the storm, or he will get you through the storm. Either way, Jesus will be with you.Today's Scripture Verses:Matthew 14:26-33 - “When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It's a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid.” “Lord, if it's you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” Hebrews 12:2 - “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group

Chris Sustar - Fix Your Eyes on Jesus by High Praises Church
Your Life Follows Your Focus (Part 2): Fix Your Eyes on Jesus In a world where everyone is competing for your attention, learning to focus may be one of the most important spiritual disciplines a disciple can develop. In this second episode in his Power of Focus series, Rob Skinner shares a powerful message from a recent sermon in Boston about why disciples of Jesus must intentionally direct their attention toward Christ. Philippians 2 calls believers to have the same mindset as Christ Jesus—a mindset marked by humility, sacrifice, and obedience. But the challenge is that the world constantly pulls our focus in other directions. Comparison. Success. Approval. Pleasure. Entertainment. Just like racehorses wear blinders to keep their eyes fixed on the track, disciples must decide where their attention will go. When racehorses look sideways, they slow down and lose the race. In the same way, when believers constantly compare themselves with others or chase distractions, they lose spiritual focus. The solution is simple but powerful: Fix your attention on Jesus. In this episode, Rob shares a practical spiritual habit called Christ-focused reading—spending intentional time in passages of Scripture that reveal the character and identity of Jesus. Passages like: • Philippians 2 – The humility of Christ • Colossians 1 – The supremacy of Christ • The Sermon on the Mount – The teachings of Christ By slowly reflecting on these passages and asking, "What does this reveal about Jesus?" disciples begin to absorb His character and imitate His example. Transformation doesn't happen by accident. It happens when we intentionally direct our attention toward Christ. Because in the end, your life truly follows your focus. Key Scriptures Philippians 2:5–11 "In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus…" Colossians 1:15–17 "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation…" Practical Challenge Try this simple practice this week: Spend time reading passages that focus directly on the character of Jesus. Slow down. Reflect on what the passage reveals about Him. Ask yourself: How can I imitate this today? Because discipleship is not about perfection. It's about direction and attention. Hebrews 12:1–3 reminds us that the Christian life is a race that requires endurance. To run well, we are called to lay aside the sins and distractions that weigh us down and keep us from moving forward in faith. But the strength to keep going does not come from ourselves. It comes from fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who has already gone before us. When we grow weary or discouraged, we look to his suffering and his victory, drawing strength from him so that we do not lose heart.

This reflection looks at Nicodemus as an icon of repentance and faith. After secretly meeting Jesus Christ years earlier and hearing about being “born again,” Nicodemus struggled to understand. But everything changed when he later stood at the cross and helped bury Jesus, bringing seventy-five pounds of spices. In that moment the words of Jesus came into focus: salvation does not come through works, but through faith in the Son who was “lifted up” for the world. Just as Jesus taught about new birth through water and the Spirit, believers receive new life through Baptism and faith. The message reminds us that when life's burdens feel overwhelming, the answer is the same one Nicodemus finally saw clearly—fix your eyes on Christ crucified, who carries the weight of sin and gives the promise of eternal life.

In this part of the book of Mark, we are just days away from Jesus's death. Jesus gives his disciples and us the important reminder that earthly things don't matter. One day they will all be gone. Jesus also warns us to be ready for the Last Day, because whether or not we live to see judgment day, our end will one day come. We'll talk about Mary, who anointed Jesus with an expensive perfume, and be reminded that having a heart of adoration toward Jesus is a beautiful thing, even if the people around us don't understand.
You're working hard. You're showing up. You're doing everything right. So why does it feel like you keep ending up in the same place? Pastor Eric Thomas breaks down the real reason, and it's not your effort, your discipline, or your faith. It's what you keep picking back up every time God tries to free you from it. Not the bad stuff. The good stuff. The comfortable stuff. The stuff that used to work, but is quietly holding you back from what's next. This message will change how you see your season.
Fix Your Eyes On JesusEphesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”This verse is an important one. It is something I think we forget more than we remember. At least I know I forget this often. I do know I am saved because Jesus died on a cross for my sins. I know I am not saved because of my own actions. I know there are no works that I could do to save myself because Jesus already paid the ultimate sacrifice. I know all of this, and yet sometimes I still try to do it all myself. Sometimes I try to fix things myself. Instead of immediately turning to the Lord when things get tough, I try to fix them myself. I do all that is humanly possible to do, and then when that doesn't work, I turn to the Lord. Do you know why it doesn't work when we try to do things on our own? Because we were trying to do it on our own. We can't do anything on our own, and why would we want to when we have a heavenly Father who wants to do it with us? This morning's devotional was about this same message. The daily devotional I am reading this year is called “Jesus Calling” by Sarah Young. I am really enjoying this one because the devotionals are not super long, and they are written as if they are a direct message to you from Jesus. It's great to get a personal message from Jesus each morning. I'm going to read you the message from this morning because I think it illustrates this verse well. "I want you to experience the riches of your salvation: the joy of being loved constantly and perfectly. You make a practice of judging yourself based on how you look, behave, or feel. If you like what you see in the mirror, you feel a bit more worthy of my love. When things are going smoothly, and your performance seems adequate, you find it easier to believe you are my beloved child. When you feel discouraged, you tend to look inward so you can correct whatever is wrong. Instead of trying to “fix” yourself, fix your gaze on me, the lover of your soul. Rather than using your energy to judge yourself, redirect it to praising Me. Remember that I see you clothed in My righteousness, radiant in My perfect Love.”This gives some great examples, I think we can all relate to. It is easier for us to feel loved when we like what we see in the mirror or when we feel we are doing a good job. It is easier to think we are God's beloved children when we are attending church, showing up for our prayer time, and helping others. However, what about when we aren't? What about when we are snoozing through prayer time and missing church on Sunday? What about when we are not being kind and loving, but we are being irritable and grumpy? Do we still know we are God's beloved child? Do we still believe we are loved? Or, do we struggle to believe it because we haven't earned his love or earned our spot as His beloved child? I can't answer that for you, but for me, I know I struggle with feeling like I have to earn it. The thing that bugs me the most is that I don't even know I am doing it. If you ask me if I have to earn God's love, I would say, “No.” I truly know I am loved no matter what. However, if you look at my actions, they say something else. Why is that? It is so frustrating when you know something on one level and yet your actions reveal that you might not know or accept it on all levels. This, I am sure, is a trick from the enemy. As mentioned in the letter from Wormwood in the Tuesday episode, the enemy wants to keep our brains in a fog. He wants to keep us from thinking clearly and asking too many questions. We need to resist this fog. We need to try to live as intentionally as we can. We can so easily go through our day on autopilot. We do the things we did yesterday; every day is similar, and we aren't even really thinking about what we are doing. We are just doing what we always do. However, what if what we always do isn't the best for us? What if we could do better if we lived more intentionally? In this message from the daily devotional, Jesus is calling us back to Him. He is calling us to stop trying fix ourselves and instead fix our eyes on Him. Hebrews 3:1 says, "Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.” We need to stop turning our gaze inward and fix our gaze on Jesus. Look towards Him and then never take your eyes off Him! I love where it says in the devotional, “Rather than using your energy to judge yourself, redirect it to praising Me.” That is such a great piece of advice. Judging ourselves does take so much energy. Praising God will uplift your spirits, also. I love to praise God; I always feel so loved afterwards. Psalm 34:5 says, “Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.” When we are looking to God, we are radiant. We don't feel ashamed; we feel as though we are God's children because we know we are. I love it when God gives us the answers to the questions we are asking. If we want to know how we can experience the riches of our salvation and the joy of being loved constantly and perfectly, we need to fix our eyes on Jesus and redirect our energy to praise. Imagine if you could feel the joy of being loved constantly and perfectly? You can just turn your gaze to Jesus and praise Him.Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today. Lord, we are so grateful that you gave the ultimate sacrifice for us. We know we don't have to earn it, and yet we still try. Help us to stop that, Lord. Help us to accept your love and acceptance that is freely given. Help us to know in our inmost being that you love us no matter what, and we don't have to do anything to save ourselves. Your grace has already saved us. Help us accept your grace, Lord, and use it to praise you! We love you, Lord, you are so amazing. You are the best, and we are so grateful for you. We ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. In Hebrews 3:1-6, we're reminded that because Jesus is the faithful Son over God's house, we must fix our eyes on him and hold fast in persevering faith. Writing to believers tempted to drift back to old loyalties, the author calls us to remember who we are in Christ and to carefully consider who Jesus is: the Apostle sent from God and the High Priest who brings us to God. Persevering faith doesn't rest in our effort or consistency, but in continually looking to and trusting in Jesus, our unfailing hope. Most people don't lose their power overnight—they slowly forget who they are. This message reveals what happens when identity is stolen… and how it gets restored. Most people don't lose their power in a dramatic moment. They adapt. They adjust. They survive. And over time, they forget who they were always meant to be. In this message, Eric Thomas exposes what happens when people forget they're royalty—how identity gets robbed quietly, how survival replaces authority, and why remembering who you are changes everything. This isn't about hype. It's about identity, responsibility, and living from who God intended you to be—not beneath it. If you've ever felt like you're living below your potential, shrinking to fit environments, or settling for less than what you know you're capable of… this message is for you. Send us a textIn Part 17 of our verse-by-verse study through Hebrews, the author turns from warning to encouragement. After some of the most sobering passages in the letter, he reminds his readers of the hope they confessed, the suffering they endured, and the confidence they must not throw away. We'll see how drawing near to God, holding fast to our hope, and encouraging one another are grounded not in our faithfulness, but in God's. This is a call to endurance—rooted in Christ, sustained by promise, and confident in what is yet to come. The Biblical Roots MinistriesOur websiteOur YouTube ChannelProf. Solberg's BlogSupport our Ministry (Thank you!)CHAPTERS00:00 Intro and recap04:05 Hebrews 12:1–2 (Run the Race, Fix Your Eyes)10:46 Hebrews 12:3–6 (Consider Christ)17:36 Hebrews 12:7–11 (God's Loving Discipline)23:32 Hebrews 12:12–17 (A Warning Not to Fall Short)33:20 Hebrews 12:18–24 (From Sinai to Zion)44:11 Hebrews 12:25–29 (An Unshakable Kingdom)
