My guest today is Brian Sims, Former Pennsylvania state Representative, highschool football star and activist who tirelessly advocates for LGBT+ civil rights.Sims made history when he became the first openly LGBTQ+ person elected to the Pennsylvania General Assembly in 2012. As a legislator, he worked to remove homosexuality from the state criminal code and voted to expand protections for victims of sexual and gender-based violence. As a passionate advocate for human rights, Sims defended access to reproductive healthcare, fought for criminal justice reform, and sought solutions to environmental issues disproportionately affecting vulnerable communities. In our chat, Brian talks with me about his life before entering the political arena including what is was like, in the year 2000, to be one of the first American Football captains to have ever come out in the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) - the highest level of college football in the United States in 2000.But it's not all politics and football, Brian also chatted to me about finding love (since our chat Brian has gotten engaged, congrats!) and moving across the country with his now fiancé Alex Drakos. I hope you love it. Darren. Follow Darren for all the latest podcast news and updates. For many in the LGBTQ+ community, fear of discrimination and harassment can get in the way of seeking medical care when they are sick and can put them at increased risk of serious health problems, including kidney disease. In this episode, we discussed how to create an inclusive and affirming environment in a healthcare setting with Dr. Dinushika Mohottige and Dr. Mitchell R. Lunn, two experts in sexual and gender minority health, as well as living kidney donor and the first openly gay elected state legislator in Pennsylvania history, Rep. Brian Sims. She now works under the mentorship of Dr. Ebony Boulware and Dr. Clarissa Diamantidis to engage in patient and community-centered, inequity-focused research around the impact of socio-structural factors on kidney health and kidney transplantation.   Mitchell R. Lunn, MD, MAS, FACP, FASN: Dr. Lunn is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Nephrology of the Department of Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. As an internist and nephrologist with a strong interest in technology and sexual and gender minority health, Mitch's research is designed to characterize the health and well-being of these populations. Some Women Are More Equal Than Others

The BreakPoint Podcast

One of the most important developments in American culture over the last few years has been the elevation of women. Especially since the #MeToo movement inspired victims to come forward, we've become serious about ending the harassment and silencing of women. But there are still women being silenced. And there are still women being harassed. Ironically, though many progressives have claimed credit for this new state of wokeness, they're the ones often telling a very specific group of women to essentially “sit down and shut up.” Take Pennsylvania state representative Brian Sims, who twice filmed himself harassing peaceful pro-life protesters outside a Philadelphia abortion clinic. In the first encounter, this grown man descended on a group of teenage girls, offering $100 to anyone who could identify them. That's what is called “doxing,” by the way, and it's a very effective online intimidation tactic. Later, Simms posted a video in which he harassed a woman that was praying in front of the same clinic, calling her “disgusting” and “racist,” and asking viewers to identify her and publish her home address. But Simms is not the only one who is on a quest to intimidate and silence pro-life women. Earlier this month, a woman protesting in front of another abortion clinic—this time in Huntsville, Alabama—was assaulted by an abortion supporter who jumped out of her car, punched her, and took her phone. That protester, Mary Baggett, caught the incident on video. And she's just the latest victim in what's become an increasing pattern of harassment and assault against pro-lifers, oftentimes pro-life women. Abortion isn't the only issue on which the tolerant can't seem to tolerate any dissent. In the push to allow biologically male, transgender athletes to compete alongside females, women who don't like the idea of permanently coming in second or third aren't allowed to speak, either. The Daily Signal recently interviewed Selina Soule, a high school junior competing in Connecticut's Girls' Track and Field State Championships. Selina didn't make the cut for New England last year—not because any other girls ran better times, but because two boys who identified as girls took first and second place. Obviously discouraged, Soule told the Signal, “When I'm at the start of the race—when I'm lining up and getting into my blocks—everyone already knows the outcome...there's no way that one of us biological girls will be able to outrun those transgender athletes.” But no one seems willing to challenge this new arrangement. Her mom explained why: “...girl athletes competing every week live in fear to speak out due to the possibility of retaliation from coaches, from school officials, as well as hurting their college scholarship opportunities.” At a recent event hosted by the Heritage Foundation, one female weightlifter recounted how transgender activists disrupted her competition for ninety minutes after she dared to speak out. She's even received death threats for, in her words, “trying to save women's sports.” Many progressives are more than willing to listen to women's voices—as long as they don't say anything contrary to left-wing ideology. But calling yourself pro-woman makes no sense when the only women you listen to are those who repeat your own opinions. There are a couple of lessons to draw from this. First, don't believe the rhetoric that says one side in today's social debates is for women and the other against. Anyone who has ever walked into a pro-life pregnancy care center, or attended the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. knows what kind of propaganda and nonsense that is. These movements are led and propelled by women. Second, empowering women and amplifying their voices must include those championing truly hard and unpopular causes—like those resisting the destruction of women's spaces and women's sports by transgender ideology. It's all well and good to call yourself, your organization, or your political party “pro-women,” but not if you harass, intimidate, and silence any woman who dares to go off script.   Resources Feminist Charges, Physically Assaults Alabama Pro-Life Protester Amanda Prestigiacomo | Dailywire.com | May 15, 2019 Are Transgender Athletes a Threat to Women's Sports? The Christian Outlook – May 11, 2019 Kevin McCullough and Jeanne Mancini, head of National March for Life, share about their experience at the Focus on the Family "Alive in New York" event, which took place on May 4th in Times Square. Kathy Emmons talks with David French of the National Review about the latest massive rocket attack on Israel as well as his piece “The Law of War Permits Israel to Destroy Hamas.” Dr. Albert Mohler shares his thoughts on the slippery slope of Facebook choosing to remove individuals they deem "dangerous." McCullough returns with Federalist writer Chad Felix Greene to talk about Pennsylvania representative Brian Sims harassing and doxing pro-life teen girls and more recently a woman praying outside of Planned Parenthood. While on the Ride Home with John and Kathy, Dr. Timothy Muehlhoff, a professor of communication studies at Biola University, discussed the danger of the tongue. Gino Geraci spoke with Jeremiah Keenan of the Federalist on the shocking story of a Canadian man being threatened with incarceration for calling his daughter a girl." Bob Burney takes a closer look at disturbing rhetoric coming from Alabama Democrat Representative John Roberts, which is a telling look into how many pro-choice Democrats actually think, but rarely verbalize.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The anti-science, anti-common sense lefties who adore and praise abortion used to be fringe. Not any more. Now, if you don't jump with joy at the thought of late-term abortion, you are going against the mainstream Democratic Party platform. Every 2020 candidate feels just as strongly about making sure ripping little babies apart remains legal as the brutish bully who harassed the elderly woman and teen girls praying outside the Philly Planned Parenthood clinic. May 7, 2019 It's obvious that Twitter is attempting to manipulate the national conversation ahead of the 2020 election. Carter and Keri talk about yesterday's ban of @AOCPress and @OfficeOfMike, and the virtue signaling harassment of PA representative and all-around douchebag Brian Sims, who spends his free time on Twitter trying to doxx teenagers. Since the Podcast Stage began at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2015, we've been a part of the fun. This year marks our third appearance on the Podcast Stage, so we call it our Interactive Fandom Adventure III! We invited Skywalkers to come up and discuss the Episode IX Trailer and name “The Rise of Skywalker” which had just released that morning. Din, lead singer of the band F-105, rocked the roof off the place with a new song, “Song For Celebration”. He was accompanied by Chris Macht. And we had our Blast Shields game and giveaways! Everyone who attended also received our SWCC button. We can't thank all of the Skywalker volunteers enough for their assistance with another great Interactive Fandom Adventure stage show. Brian Sims, Teresa Delgado Lutha, Matt Clifton, Daniel Berry, Joey Pittman, David Braun, Aaron Curto, Jess Walz, John Zancanaro, Gary Oransky, Tati Perez, Daniel Carlton, and Bryce Eller as the voice of Darth Vader.
