US Congressman Kweisi Mfume stopped by to share about legislation (House Bill 727) both he and US Senator Ben Cardin introduced to preserve African American history and culture. The legislation would create a 12 person National Council to advise the National Endowment for the Humanities on how to amplify, strengthen teaching and learning in schools to ensure black history and culture is recognized. More than two dozen co-sponsors have signed on to this legislation. But it must still pass the House of Representatives, which is Republican controlled. More updates on the possibility of the George Floyd Policing Act was discussed as well as the Witness Security and Protection Grant Program Act of 2023, which has bipartisan support and the Identifying Mass Shooters Act.Being Well Informed airs weekly on multiple platforms, including Apple Podcast, Google Podcast, iHeart Radio, Spotify, Amazon Music, and You Tube.

Another series of reviews published in The Hartford Courant followed. By the time she reached college, Aisha was writing for the literary magazine and interning at a local radio station, ABC-affiliate as a writer in the news department and in the A&R department of an independent record company. As a graduate student at Fisk University, Aisha asked Dr. Raymond Winbush to chair her thesis because 1) he was one of the most renowned voices in black culture and academia, and 2) he was a Prince fan. His scholarship and guidance led Aisha to an early career as a professor of social sciences and later an administrator in higher education. Aisha has also served as a director of education and policy research centers and on the staff of legislative commissions. She previously served on the Executive Board of the CT Young Democrats' Women's Caucus, an avid campaigner and has remained active in politics and public policy. Political Analysis Benjamin Dixon breaks down the George Floyd Policing Act and discusses power moves by prominent Black politicians plus we take a look at how Minneapolis honored George Floyd one year after he was murdered.
On the first anniversary of George Floyd's death, Don starts the show by reflecting on where the U.S. stands after its year of racial reckoning. He shares a statement from Darnella Frazier, the teenager who recorded Floyd's murder, as well as progress on the George Floyd Policing Act. Don also points out that, despite the reckoning, it still took the GOP 5 days to call out Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's anti-Semitic comments. Don is then joined by Senior Law Enforcement Analyst Andrew McCabe and Senior Legal Analyst Laura Coates to explore the facts and implications of the Washington Post's report that the Manhattan DA convened a grand jury to consider potential charges in an investigation into the Trump Organization. Later, CNN Senior Legal Analyst Elie Honig and CNN Legal Analyst Carrie Cordero go deeper into the likelihood of a Trump indictment. Director of the Domestic Policy Council Susan Rice shares why she's optimistic about the George Floyd Police Act's eventual passage, and whether she thinks working across the aisle is possible. George Floyd's brother, Philonise Floyd, and Floyd family attorney Ben Crump also join Don to discuss the Floyd family's visit to the White House and the implications that Floyd's death had on the nation. Political analyst Amanda Carpenter and CNN Sr. Political Analyst, Kirsten Powers discuss the political implications of the Manhattan DA's investigation, as well as how the GOP's silence on Rep. Taylor Greene's anti-Semitic comments showcases Trump's power over Republican leaders. Next, Executive Director of the USC Shoah Foundation Stephen D. Smith explains why Rep. Taylor Greene's comments comparing House mask rules to the Holocaust are dangerous and a “willful manipulation” and misuse of history for political ends. Amid U.S. health leaders' calls for an investigation into an investigation into the origins of COVID-19, Thomas Bollyky, Director of the Global Health Program at the Council on Foreign Relations, joins Don to explore the questions around the unknown and explains why he believes it's essential to launch a thorough investigation in China. Finally, exploring the resistance to the defunding the police as violent crime spikes across America. CNN Security Correspondent Josh Campbell reports. Rallies and many other events are planned across the Twin Cities for the next five days. Meanwhile, it looks like Congress will fail to pass the George Floyd Policing Act by May 25.--Feven Gerezgiher reports: Aniya Allen, the 6-year-old struck by a stray bullet, died on Wednesday afternoon. Hundreds gathered for a vigil in the evening, calling for an end to gun violence in North Minneapolis.Meanwhile, state and national legislators continue to negotiate needed changes for public safety. President Joe Biden had urged Congress to pass policing reform by the anniversary of Floyd's death on May 25th. A co-author of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, however, says it will not pass by that deadline. Rallies and many other events are planned across the Twin Cities for the days leading up to the anniversary. Jacari Harris, executive director for the Floyd family's foundation, wants to use the moment to reflect.“When we look back to this past year, we asked ourselves what has changed,” said Harris. “Well, the George Floyd Policing Act has not been signed into law. That has not changed. When we look at elected officials, when we look at community development, when we look at so many issues, many things have not changed.”Jeanelle Austin is the lead caretaker for the George Floyd Global Memorial. She said the anniversary allows people to be in community.“When George Floyd was lynched last year, the world collectively grieved,” said Austin. “And I think there is something powerful and important to allow ourselves to pause to remember what we went through together and to hold space with one another. And to remember that we're still here for one another. And we're still moving forward toward the work of justice.”The Floyd family will host a rally in downtown Minneapolis on Sunday. At George Floyd Square, the remembrance event is on Tuesday.
The Republican Party has ousted Rep. Liz Cheney from her leadership role. Is this “cancel culture” or for a good reason? Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton joins to discuss a Twitter lawsuit against him that was dismissed and a BLM protest that stopped traffic in a Dallas suburb. Teachers in multiple states are outraged over critical race theory bans, but a poll shows the vast majority of Americans oppose teaching CRT in their schools. Attorney Peter Kirsanow joins to break down the George Floyd Policing Act, which he argues would put our police in more danger. A new U.S. consumer price index report proves that inflation is rising fast, but Glenn argues that it’s already nearing the records set during the Carter administration. This week we're talking about Empathy. Let's talk about extending it and how it benefits everyone. Empathy is in short supply right now, and we need to bring it back to the forefront. Links to check out: The George Floyd Policing Act: .https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-bill/7120 The bill facilitates federal enforcement of constitutional violations (e.g., excessive use of force) by state and local law enforcement. Among other things, it does the following:lowers the criminal intent standard—from willful to knowing or reckless—to convict a law enforcement officer for misconduct in a federal prosecution, limits qualified immunity as a defense to liability in a private civil action against a law enforcement officer or state correctional officer, andauthorizes the Department of Justice to issue subpoenas in investigations of police departments for a pattern or practice of discrimination. The bill also creates a national registry—the National Police Misconduct Registry—to compile data on complaints and records of police misconduct. It establishes a framework to prohibit racial profiling at the federal, state, and local levelLast week's episode: Trauma Check: https://www.buzzsprout.com/851650/8353878-trauma-check.mp3?blob_id=37986300&download=trueThe Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz: https://www.miguelruiz.com/the-four-agreements Don't take anything personallyDon't Make AssumptionsBe Impeccable with your wordAlways do your bestContact information for Pamela & The Well Done Life Podcast:Please reach out and share your feedback on this week's episode or topics that you would like covered :-)Twitter: https://twitter.com/iampamelaldavisInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/pamelaldavis/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thewelldonelifepodcast/Email: thewelldonelife@gmail.com

David Owen, former Foreign Secretary and one of the SDP's Gang of Four, boards a flight to Planet Normal this week. He tells Telegraph columnists Allison Pearson and Liam Halligan why he thinks it's a problem that former Prime Ministers no longer join the House of Lords and expresses his regret that the late Shirley Williams didn't acknowledge her own potential. Plus David attempts to answer a seemingly simple question posed by Liam: is Boris Johnson a ‘great’ Prime Minister?Elsewhere, they think it's all over.... it is now! And by 'it' we mean the new European Super League of course. Allison and Liam get into what that news meant to your average football fan. Plus Allison reflects on the coverage of the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral, and those powerful images of the Queen sat alone in the chapel. HR1280, The George Floyd Policing Act, was passed by Congress. It is a disastrous and short-sighted law that endangers our first responder police officers' lives and removes their qualified immunity. Dr. Ron and Linda cannot fathom why our legislators endanger not only our police but our citizens as well. President Biden’s immigration and border policies have opened the border floodgates, and America is feeling the pain. Covid positive immigrants are being bussed to your cities, along with unvetted immigrants who could be sexual predators, criminals, and drug traffickers. Who’s great idea was this? And cancel culture is on a roll, canceling Dr. Seuss, the Muppets, Mr. Potato Head, Justice Thomas, and books aplenty. We are being re-educated in only those ideas the left wants to espouse. Join us for coffee and lively conversation. Image: NYT Video
