Jeff and his team have been praised by The New York Times, Forbes, and the Huffington Post for their work in landscaping at Ole Miss as well as Jeff's book, Growing Weeders into Leaders, that reveals the secret sauce in the recipe for their success. The PGMS, Newsweek, the Princeton Review, and USA Today all designated the Ole Miss Landscape team worthy of national distinction, naming the Ole Miss campus as the nation's most beautiful. As noted by Dan Cathy, Chairman of Board for Chick-fil-A, “Jeff reminds us that all leaders can be cultivated with the right pruning and nurturing.” As the Director of Landscape, Airport and Golf Services at the University of Mississippi by day, a member of the National Speakers Association by night, Jeff has worked with hundreds of leaders and organizations to find the hidden leader within themselves and others. His easy-tofollow Leadership programs motivate participants to lead by example, problem solve and to engage in continuous learning and growing. Jeff graduated from Auburn University in Horticulture, he is a Professional Certified Grounds Manager, and a Certified Arborist. Jeff knows that great leaders grow great leaders, and as a professional speaker and a member of the National Speaker Association, his message focuses on enriching, entertaining, and inspiring industry leaders looking to grow their team's performance.
At the age of 37, the University of Mississippi hired Jeff McManus as the Director of the newly formed Landscape Services Department. As one of the most junior directors on campus, the immediate challenges that faced him were staggering - exceptionally low morale with an unacceptable lack of productivity. In many ways, the Ole Miss landscape services was actually an extreme example of the same problems facing many organizations then and today. Jeff believed the challenges could be overcome with focused team effort. So, he established a four-step process he calls “The GROW System.” Jeff works from the position that everybody wants to be successful and they can be - by recognizing their personal potential. Great teams, Raising results, Offense scores and Winning Attitudes, these four things, formed Jeff's GROW System. Jeff has been praised by Forbes and the Huffington Post for his book, Growing Weeders into Leaders, where he shares how his team went from last place to being on the national stage. It wasn't long before PGMS, Newsweek, Princeton Review, and USA Today all recognized Jeff's teamwork and awarded their efforts with the nation's most beautiful campus designation. Dan Cathy, chairman of board of Chick fil A, had this to say about Jeff's book, “…[it] serves as a guide for all current and future leaders. As a member of the leadership team at Chick-fil-A, part of my job is to help define the future of our business. One thing we have learned throughout my tenure at Chick-fil-A is that there's a big difference between locating leaders and cultivating them. Jeff reminds us that all leaders can be cultivated with the right pruning and nurturing.” Jeff holds a bachelor's degree in Landscape and Ornamental Horticulture from Auburn University and is a Certified Arborist and Grounds Manager.
In today's fast-paced, constantly evolving business landscape, a strong leadership team is more important than ever. But many organizations fail to realize that leadership is not a quality that can be taught or imposed from the top down. Instead, it must be nurtured and developed from within. How can organizations identify and invest in employees who have the potential to be great leaders? Here to discuss leadership along with insights from his book, Growing Weeders Into Leaders, is Jeff McManus. At 37, the University of Mississippi hired Jeff as the Director of the newly formed Landscape Services Department. As one of the most junior directors on campus, his immediate challenges were staggering - exceptionally low morale with an unacceptable lack of productivity. In the year 2000 Jeff joined the University of Mississippi's Ole Miss campus as the Director of Landscape Services. He brought with him the understanding that students regularly mention campus appearance as one of the key factors in their decision to enroll at a University. With that in mind, Jeff and his team developed a system of beautification and landscape management that has led to numerous awards for the Ole Miss campus. Princeton Review and Newsweek Magazine identified the University of Mississippi as our nation's most beautiful campus. Most recently, Ole Miss was named by USA Today readers as the 2016 America's Most Beautiful College Campus. Jeff and his staff recognize that education at its best is a community experience. For he and his team, developing and maintaining beauty, order and safety on the Ole Miss campus is much like a higher calling. Providing faculty, staff and students with clean, safe and beautiful spaces for knowledge sharing is their mission....the recognition and awards attest to their excellence. Jeff holds a bachelor's degree in Landscape and Ornamental Horticulture from Auburn University and is a Certified Arborist. He is highly engaged in sharing his knowledge at www.jeffmcmanus.com and his most recent book, Growing Weeders into Leaders.

This is one of my favorite interviews so far. Imagine winning multiple national championships for the most beautiful college campus in America. At a place where tens of thousands of people are tailgating in the middle of campus during an SEC football weekend late into Saturday night. And as dawn breaks on a peaceful Sunday morning, the mountains of trash have magically disappeared. In that moment, you understand WHY the team at the University of Mississippi are national champions. How do you "grow" a leader? In the workplace, the family, and really anywhere else, what does it look like to motivate people to lead? How do you build a culture that values things like greatness, resiliency, opportunity, and wisdom? Why is it important to value these things?
Stephen Snyder, M.D., Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai, has very provocative things to say about S-E-X: Facebook is making sex obsolete, but you can do something about it. ‘Sex dates’ won’t cure a sexless marriage. Good communication can ruin good sex. Men still don’t understand women [our comment: Ya think?]. And he ponders if we are REALLY born to cheat.
