Fans of the Hurricane Group network of sites may be familiar with our aviation website FighterSweep.com, and it's former editor and writer for the site Paco Chierici has just today released his debut novel, "Lions of the Sky." The retired Navy fighter pilot who now captains a 737 and recreationally flies a Yak-50 is fulfilling his mission with this book in writing an action-packed thriller that only someone whose been there and done that could release. We get into Paco's background and some of the ego and fear that goes behind flying A-6E Intruders and F-14 Tomcats for the Navy. You'll also hear some of the fundamental differences between being accepted into this line of work with the military where guys who don't make the cut aren't welcomed back, as opposed to recycling back after failing to become an Army Ranger for example. Be sure to pick up "Lions of the Sky," it's out today on Amazon, and check out Paco's website with all links to social media at LionsOfTheSky.com. We also cover some major news of the week including WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange being arrested in London, Benjamin Netanyahu being re-elected once again as Prime Minister of Israel sparking some conversation about term limits, and Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard being labeled a terrorist organization by the U.S. We also answer your emails sent to sofrep.radio@sofrep.com. I've been so eager to share my conversation with former US Navy SEAL, New York Times bestselling author, and entrepreneur Brandon Webb! His new book Mastering Fear: A Navy SEAL's Guide is on my list of the top 5 books that have impacted me most in 2018. It's truly a must read! About the Book: Brandon Webb has run life-threatening missions in the world's worst trouble spots, whether that meant jumping out of airplanes, taking down hostile ships on the open sea, or rolling prisoners in the dead of night in the mountains of Afghanistan. As a Navy SEAL, he learned how to manage the natural impulse to panic in the face of terrifying situations. As media CEO and national television commentator, he has learned how to apply those same skills in civilian life.  Drawing on his experiences in combat and business, along with colorful anecdotes from his vast network of super-achiever friends from astronauts to billionaires, Webb shows how people from all walks of life can stretch and transcend their boundaries and learn to use their fears as fuel to achieve more than they ever thought possible. "Fear can be a set of manacles, holding you prisoner," writes Webb. "Or it can be a slingshot, catapulting you on to greatness." The key, says Webb, is not to fight fear or try to beat it back, but to embrace and harness it. In the process, rather than being your adversary, your fear becomes a secret weapon that allows you to triumph in even the most adverse situations. In Mastering Fear, Webb and his bestselling coauthor John David Mann break this transformation down into five practical steps, creating a must-read manual for anyone looking for greater courage and mastery in their lives. About the Author: Brandon Webb is a former US Navy SEAL, New York Times bestselling author, and founder and CEO of Hurricane Group, a media and ecommerce business focused on military entertainment, news, and monthly clubs. His titles include The Red Circle, Benghazi: The Definitive Report, The Killing School, and Total Focus. The last time Pat McNamara was on the show, he gave the most passionate review of his experience seeing Judas Priest play NYCB Live/Nassau Coliseum. Ever since than, I knew we had to get the former Army operator and current shooting instructor back on to talk metal a little more in-depth. Well, who better to bring on for that discussion than my friend Shawn the Butcher? Shawn's the voice of Ozzy's Boneyard, and a host on Liquid Metal, both on Sirius XM Radio. I got him to walk over from their studios to Hurricane Group's headquarters, and have a really fun discussion that we hope you'll be entertained by. We get into topics like the recent death of legendary Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul, our favorite concerts, and some of the reasons why Metallica continues to reign supreme after over 35 years in the music business. So, this is a break from our usual special operations and foreign policy discussion, but if you're a metalhead, you'll dig it! I know a lot of operators can attest to metal being the soundtrack for war. Americans hear the name Glen Doherty and know him as one of the brave Navy SEALs killed while contracting in Benghazi, Libya on September 11th, 2012.  To Sean Lake and Brandon though, they remember their great friend who was an avid skier and put a smile on everyone's face.  Sean, an experienced snowboarder, lived with Glen from 2010 on and acted as the executive to Glen's estate when he was killed, and on this episode we hear the story of both Brandon and Sean's reaction when they heard the devastating news of what happened to their friend that night.  Sean let this tragic event become the catalyst for making change however, when he helped to start the Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation with a simple philosophy in mind borrowed from Glen's way of life, to work hard and play hard.  Glen "Bub" Doherty also became the inspiration for Bub's Naturals, a new company created by Sean that produces their own collagen protein powder.  Sean discusses the benefits of collagen, how it appeals to him as an athlete, and why it's something he could have seen Glen and himself benefiting from during their CrossFit days.  Most importantly, 10% of every sale of Bub's Naturals goes to the Glen Doherty Memoral Foundation. We also talk about the future of Hurricane Group, including charitable work we've done and what we have in the works on that end.  We also let you know what's in store for Crate Club members that you will not want to miss, and look back on the premium crate EDC med kit we did last year that was inspired by Glen.  Last, Brandon and I throat punch Drew Murray again this show for stealing Jack Murphy's work.  As always, follow us on Instagram and Twitter @SOFREPRadio, e-mail your questions to sofrep.radio@sofrep.com, and with us going back to a free format, we need your help, please leave a five star review for us on Apple Podcasts. This week marked the annual meetings for Hurricane Group in NYC, discussing the future of the company, and our individual goals with what we do.  One big change I wanted to let you all know about, and that many of you will be happy to hear, we will continue to do two shows each week in their entirety with SOFREP Radio, as well as Brandon Webb's The Power of Thought podcast, but these will now be free to hear immediately on the SOFREP app as well as Apple Podcasts and elsewhere.  We decided on this change for many reasons, but we want to continue to expand on the listener base that we have.  For those who signed up as members of the podcast as we experimented with this format over the past half year, we greatly appreciate it.  I would encourage those of you in that camp to become full fledged Team Room members and check out all of the great content that the guys you hear on SOFREP Radio regularly are working on.  If not, we hope you continue to listen, and if you run into any issues with your current membership, feel free to e-mail me personally at sofrep.radio@sofrep.com, and I'll be sure to forward you over to the right place now that we have an incredible customer service team at the company.  With that, our new managing editor, a man of mystery, The Odyssean joined me in studio while he was in town for the meetings.  And believe it or not, we live streamed, which you can check out, but he was sure to keep his identity concealed.  For those not in the know, The Odyssean has worked in Army intelligence, as well as on the private side doing work in Japan for many years.  For this show we discuss how important music can be to the operator working in an unfamiliar environment.  We also hear a story of T.O. creating a go-bag for a friend, and the importance of being prepared.  That's something we always stress to our Crate Club members. Well there are a few more steps in-between the title of this episode. I had to bring back my guest Brandon Webb because his latest book, two in just a few months, is to important to not be talked about. Reading my advance copy of Total Focus: How to Make Better Decisions Under Pressure shifted me out of lethargy faster than anything I have read in a long time. Maybe it was timing. This show, and my guests are the best kind of therapy. Each week my perspective gets shifted, last week's show with Wayne Pernell prepared me for the impact of this one. Hopefully you have had a chance to listen to it and many of the others. They build, they shift and most of all, according to you, my listeners make thinking happen.  Seven principles laid out, each more powerful than the last. Why powerful? Their simplicity. Not that they are always simple to implement but simplicity in the Why? And you know I love the Why? question! Integrity, authenticity and most of all a driving need to share his experience to help others learn and grow is why Brandon is back on the show with an open invite anytime. So lets go into some things we cover on this show: Why front sight focus with total situational awareness is the key to success in anything you do. How you can Embrace the Suck and come out the other side. Why you need to create a yearly vision theme and how it can change everything. At the end of the day, it is the choices we make that define who we become. Let me know what choices you are making after you listen to this episode. Find me on Twitter @thelaurasteward After leaving home at age sixteen Brandon finished high school, and joined the US Navy to become a Navy SEAL.  His first permanent assignment was as a helicopter Aircrew Search & Rescue (SAR) swimmer and Aviation Warfare Systems Operator with HS-6. In 1997 his Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) package was approved. He would class up with over 200 students in BUD/S class 215, and go on to complete the training as 1 of 23 originals. As a SEAL he served with SEAL Team 3, Naval Special Warfare Group One (NSWG-1) Training Detachment sniper cell, and completed his last tour at the Naval Special Warfare Center (NSWC) sniper course where he served as the Naval Special Warfare west coast sniper course manager. Throughout his career he completed four deployments to the Middle East, one to Afghanistan and would later go back to Iraq in 2006-7 as a paramilitary contractor. His proudest accomplishment in the military was working as the SEAL sniper course manager, a schoolhouse that has produced some of the deadliest snipers in US military history. An accomplished and proven leader, Brandon was meritoriously promoted to E-6 while serving as an advanced sniper instructor at NSWG-1, and was recommended and promoted to the rank of Chief Petty Officer (E-7) his first time eligible while at the sniper course. He has received numerous distinguished service awards including the Presidential Unit Citation (personally awarded to him by President George W. Bush), and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal with “V” device for valor in combat. Webb ended his Navy career early after over a decade of service in order to spend more time with his children and focus on entrepreneurship (both his parents were small business owners). Today Brandon is focused on building his media and ecommerce business. He is the founder and CEO of the Hurricane Group, a U.S. & European based media and ecommerce company focusing on military entertainment, news, and monthly clubs. Brandon is regularly featured in the media as a military and business subject matter expert. He has contributed to ABC’s Good Morning America, NBC’s Today Show, FOX news, CNN, the BBC, SIRIUS XM, MSNBC, and The New York Times. Webb is a New York Times bestselling author. His books include, The Red Circle (St. Martin’s Press) Among Heroes (Penguin-Random House),  Benghazi, The Definitive Report (Harper Collins), The ISIS Solution (SOFREP books), and The Power of Thought (self-published). He has two books scheduled to publish in 2017. The Killing School: Inside the World’s deadliest sniper program, is set to publish with St. Martin’s Press May, 2017. Total Focus: How to Make Better Decisions Under Pressure, publishes with Penguin Random House in the August, 2017. In 2012, after losing his best friend, Navy SEAL & CIA contractor Glen Doherty, in Benghazi, Libya, he founded The Red Circle Foundation (RCF), a non-profit with a 100% pass through model; every dollar donated goes to the mission and business partner donors pick up the Foundation’s overhead. RCF is focused on supporting families of the Special Operations community through emergency memorial, medical, and child enrichment programs (camps & scholarships). Brandon is an active member of the Entrepreneurs Organization New York (EONY), and enjoys spending time with his tight circle of amazing family & friends, being outdoors, and flying his experimental aircraft upside-down. He splits his time between his residence in San Juan, PR and Manhattan, NY.

Bet you did not realize Harry Potter is a sniper? If you read my guest's latest book with John David Mann, The Killing School: Inside The World's Deadliest Sniper Program, you will understand why Harry Potter and James Bond are really snipers.   Hint, listen to this episode of my show and I answer the question for you. You still should read the book though!   How does a Navy Seal Sniper do what they do? What kind of training has to happen so that in one moment they can have total focus yet have total situational awareness?   Brandon Webb is a former Navy Seal Sniper from Seal Team 3. He also was tasked with revamping the Sniper School training program for the Navy Seals. His shift in perspective as to how and what needed to be taught changed the program so completely it is considered one of the best in the world. Glad they are on our side.   Part of that revamp was figuring out how to train observation and Total Focus into the training. You think it is hard to focus when you are at your desk. Picture doing it while bullets are flying all around, people are dying or you are hundreds of yards from a suspected terrorist trying not to be found as you gather intelligence to prevent a terrorist attack.   Now he runs a company he founded that has been valued at $100,000,000.    Listen as he shares some "Sniper Zen", how he bounced back from failure and why one small shift in thinking changed sniper training forever.   Brandon Webb is a former US Navy SEAL sniper, New York Times bestselling author, Experimental aircraft pilot, and entrepreneur. He’s the founder of the Hurricane Group, a U.S. based media and e-commerce company focusing on outdoor, military entertainment, news, and clubs.

The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Brandon Webb, Author of  The Killing School. Brandon Webb is one of the true “go-to's” for national media regarding combat situations in the global war on terror, both from the standpoint of USN SEALs in general, and snipers in particular. As he says in THE KILLING SCHOOL, “I have an unusual relationship with death. For most, death is a mystery, a thing we fear and seek to avoid…for me, the face of death is as familiar as the barista at my local coffee shop.  As a sniper, some might think I cheated death. I don't see it that way. And the sniper, his goal in the field isn't so much to take lives as to actually save them.” Webb's training curriculum is second to none. He also personally handled some of the finest ever to shoot in combat situations: Chris Kyle, Marcus Luttrell, Adam Brown, and scores more true American military heroes. The stories he can personally relate to, and those comrades he's shared the battle field with, will be of great interest to your readers and audience. I urge you to consider an interview with Brandon Webb and I eagerly look forward to your coverage of THE KILLING SCHOOL Brandon Webb Is the New York Times bestselling author of The Red Circle. A former U.S. Navy SEAL, he has received numerous distinguished service awards, including the Presidential Unit Citation. As the founder and CEO of Hurricane Group, Inc., which includes SOFREP, he runs the largest military content network on the Internet. Brandon lives in New York and California.
