This week on CN Overreaction, Greg and Hoss have the unenviable task of discussing the 31-24 overtime loss to Illinois this past Friday night. What did Illinois do right? What did Nebraska do wrong? Look, this isn't a finger-pointing situation. But there are clearly some aspects of the old ball game that need to be addressed and corrected. The running game needs to be adjusted. It needs to be flowered up. It's too direct. We need counters and traps, pulling guards and pre-snap motion. We do blame the officiating just a little bit. But it's more of a schematic issue. The good news, the silver lining if you will, is that we have confidence in Matt Rhule and Company to right the ship. As Hoss says towards the end of the show, “we are light years ahead of where we were a year ago.” Have faith, Husker Nation, run the damn ball, and win the damn game.
Husker Nation was hit with a hefty dose of reality last Friday. On the night of the 400th consecutive sellout at Memorial Stadium, Nebraska loses the Big Ten opener to Illinois in overtime. 31-24 the final. It's the first time Nebraska has lost a Big Ten Conference opener at home. Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice don't hold back in this Husker Doc Talk Podcast edition. Matt Rhule Was Out-Coached The Defense Sucked and Was Undisciplined The Offense Couldn't Find A Running Game The Team Was Not Mentally Prepared for Primetime All of this is a surprise, considering the momentum the Huskers had been building in the first three weeks of the season. Maybe we should have seen it coming based on recent history. Nebraska has lost eight straight overtime games. It's like they didn't even show up in the extra period against the Illini. Matt Rhule is now 2-20 all-time against teams ranked in the top 25, including 14 straight. Nebraska has lost 25 straight games against ranked teams dating back to 2016. What did we learn? Nebraska has come so far but still has a long way to go. Maybe this is a good time to get away from Lincoln. After four straight home games, Nebraska is at Purdue on Saturday. The Boilermakers are bad, 1-2 on the season after getting beat by Oregon State last weekend. It's a game the Huskers should win, but then again, we thought the same thing against Illinois. In the latest episode of the Pick Six Podcast, Sam McKewon, Evan Bland and Tom Shatel preview Nebraska vs. Illinois and talk what updates are needed at Memorial Stadium. The crew opens with Nebraska playing on Friday because of a Shawn Eichorst's decision that has carried over but that the Huskers are resilient and can handle it. They then move to why Nebraska's sellout streak has lasted for 400 games, while other programs' have seen theirs broken. The three also talk why the sellout streak may be working against the fan experience and what needs to be updated at Memorial Stadium for Husker Nation. They talk how, as Matt Rhule said in his press conference, that Nebraska and Illinois are mirror images of each other and because of that what becomes more important in the matchup. The crew talks what we can learn about the Huskers during their game against the Illini and the upcoming games as well. They talk Illinois: are the Illini at top 25 team, what the crew expects from the Illinois, etc. The three talk No. 5 Nebraska volleyball's sweep of No. 2 Stanford, and what it means if the Huskers beat No. 4 Louisville this week. And how good is No. 1 Pitt? They close out with their picks for Week 4 and how high Colorado games are on their watch list.

Practice has started, and the countdown to the season opener is on! Dr. Rob Zatechka is back from a much-needed vacation and is ready to record weekly from now until the end of the season. In this episode of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast, Dr. Rob and Travis Justice discuss the expectations of Freshman Quarterback Dylan Raiola. Husker Nation sees the Big Red legacy as the savior who will finally deliver the Huskers back to the promised Land. Is this too much of a burden to bear? Time will tell. Dr. Rob tells us what he would like to see from Raiola regarding his mobility. How about reducing those dreaded turnovers? Nebraska turned the ball over 31 times in 2023, with 15 fumbles and 16 interceptions. Opponents outscored Nebraska 62-30 on points off of turnovers. They will have to flip the script if they are to get to a bowl game or, even better, win nine games. That starts with the quarterback play, adding even more pressure to the first-year signal caller. Dr. Rob and Travis also discussed gambling on the podcast. There is a push to get online sports betting to a vote. Right now, you must physically make your sports bets at a casino. In the latest episode of the Pick Six Podcast, Sam McKewon, Evan Bland and Tom Shatel hop on to discuss the leadup to the Nebraska football spring game and take a look at the latest recruits NU has landed. The guys open by talking about how the transfer portal has kept the "dog days of spring camp" very interesting but why many Huskers are most likely going to stick around for a while through this cycle. Next, the three break down the recent Class of 2025 recruits and what they bring to the table, along with some comparisons to past and current players before having a conversation about Matt Rhule's strategy in adding transfers during this period. They then discuss Nebrasketball's moves in the portal before looking at roster needs and debating which road trip is the best in the Big Ten now. The guys wrap up the episode by answering Husker fan questions, including several baseball topics.
Dive deep into the heart of Husker Nation with Damon Benning on another episode of Benning Bites. The spotlight is on the Huskers' quarterback battle, a topic that's been heating up since Spring ball. As Coach Rhule and his staff play their cards close to the vest, Damon questions the narratives we create based on who might clinch the starting role. Why do we perceive the quarterback position so differently from the rest? What are the unspoken benchmarks for quarterback play? We begin by discussing the huge news that swept through Husker Nation this week, Jordy Bahl is coming home to Nebraska for her final two softball seasons!! We talk about what this means for Nebraska softball this year and how this will impact the long-term success of Husker Softball. We also talk about some coaching changes in Husker Baseball and Volleyball including a US National Team player stepping into a coaching role. We wrap things up with a preview look at the Nebraska quarterback room for this upcoming season! All that and much more! GO BIG RED!!
Coach Rhule has expressed a desire to create a different atmosphere at Nebraska, as Husker Nation has experienced a toxic environment with broken promises in past years.. Perhaps Rhule aims to build a team that is so family-oriented that it becomes difficult for players to leave. While not all transfers are driven by selfish motives, fostering a strong sense of unity within the team should make it harder for players to depart. On this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, it is the First Annual MEGA POD, featuring Scott & I and three hosts from three Husker fan podcasts: Honke from the Go Big Redcast, Bryan from the Husker Army Podcast, and Andrew from the Big Red & More Podcast. After watching new Husker Head Coach Matt Rhule's first Spring Game, we had a lot of good to talk about, along with some not-so-good. Five dudes crammed around a small 5 foot dining room table made for a bit of a challenge; both in elbow room and in decent camera angle coverage, but overall it was a fun and entertaining conversation. We break down what we saw out of the new offense and defense, we each gave a game ball to a standout player, and then we finished our discussion with what Husker Nation largely hopes is the end to the Solich and brunette poser Herbie Curse. However, as a season-opening tussle with Minnesota looms in August, all of us will likely be asking the same question: is it REALLY finally over?Lord God in Heaven, we hope so! Stay tuned for future MEGA POD collaborations with these three gentlemen, along with a HUGE announcement about our show coming in the near-ish future. We hope you enjoyed the show, and would love for you to contact us with questions, comments, or suggestions. In this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, Scott and I recap the defensive dingleberry that ultimately cost Scott Frost his job, after the Huskers were defeated 45-42 by Georgia Southern, and THEIR new head coach Clay Helton. Then we open up the stream for any and all who wish to be on the show with us to vent, cry, or celebrate the end of the Frost Era. For our part, we are in a bit of mourning because Nebraska's prodigal son had returned home, and then found himself persona non grata on the sideline of his alma mater after less than 5 years. We all thought it was a good move, to bring back the hottest coach in college football after the 2017 season, only to find out it wasn't. Why? Well, shit. We don't know. But we'll damn sure talk about it.Beware. We have no idea what our guests are going to say...if we have any. No matter what, it should be a good therapy session for what ails Husker Nation, namely the pain and agony that was yet another one score loss in the now-over Scott Frost Era.We hope you enjoyed the show and would love for you to contact us with questions, comments, or suggestions. Nebraska Athletics released the results of its survey of Memorial Stadium on Tuesday, March 8. In January, Nebraska distributed the survey to over 200,000 donors, season ticket holders and single-game buyers. The survey was then made public, allowing for input from all of Husker Nation.
In an effort to seek input from all of Husker Nation, Nebraska Athletics is encouraging the public to take part in a detailed survey of Memorial Stadium and the Husker Game Day experience. Earlier this month, the athletic department began its comprehensive study of Memorial Stadium by collecting survey feedback from donors, ticket holders, letterwinners and alumni.

Webster's defines apathy as a “lack of feeling or emotion, interest or concern”. Well good news Redcasters, based on the number of texts, tweets & emails we received from you over the past 3 days in ALL CAPS, we would say most of you do not fit that description. But there certainly is frustration within Husker Nation and that's totally understandable (heck, the Redcast was legitimately concerned for Honke after the game). There is no more loyal and invested fanbase than that of Nebraska's. So we do what the Redcast always does. We dusted ourselves off, walked Honke back from the cliff and invited our good twitter friend Chaz in Socal back to the show (48:00) to once again begin the process of putting things back into perspective. Plus, we learn that Mac has begun moonlighting as a small-engine repairman on the side. Truly riveting stuff. GBR! A Hurrdat Media Production. "We are very pleased with the decision by the Big Ten to play football this fall after carefully considering the extensive work by the Medical Committee. The safety protocols established by the conference are the most stringent in the country, and will help protect our student-athletes, staff and coaches. At Nebraska, we have worked hard since last spring to ensure the safety of our Husker family and are confident of the steps we've taken. We look forward to working with the Big Ten protocols and will be ready to play on October 24. This is a big day for our student-athletes, coaches, our city, our state and all of Husker Nation. We look forward to seeing Coach Frost and our Huskers take the field – Go Big Red!"
Honke & Mac let their frustrations out regarding the B1G cancelling football, their disapproval of how national talking heads like Desmond Howard, Michael Wilbon & Pat Forde attacked DONU, & their pride with how Husker Nation has come together to support Coach Frost and the program. GBR!
Hail Varsity Managing Editor Erin Sorensen recounts her difficult recovery after her car was struck by a drunk driver. Husker fans reached out to the injured journalist on social media and in letters. Sorensen even received a signed football from Cornhusker Football Coach Riley and his staff.
Let's check the pulse of Husker Nation with spring ball on the horizon. What better way to do that than to bring in a group of guys who, every week, have their fingers right on that pulse? Honke, Dave, Mac, and Boomer from the Go Big Redcast join the podcast this week to talk basketball evaluations and football expectations.
Hi friends. Greg Mehochko, Corn Nation Podcast Manager here. This morning, we're going to entertain you with great post-game commentary from Jon Damn Johnston, Husker Mike, and Zack Grunder, as they talk about the overwhelming disappointing outing in West Lafayette yesterday. I'll be honest. I don't know what to make of this season anymore. I hate to have an apathetic attitude towards Husker football. That's not how I am. That's not how Husker Nation is. And I'd be lying if I said it was anything more then your undying loyalty that drew me in to Husker fandom in the mid-00's, the Bill Callahan era, when things weren't going right but we always felt like the ship would be righted, the course corrected. And I STILL feel like those things will happen. I feel like Scott Frost is the guy to get Nebraska Football back on track. Because as we've stated before on Corn Nation, if we run off Scott Frost, do we really think any other coach will come to Lincoln? We ride with Frost, hell or high water. But after the Purdue game, where defensive weaknesses were exploited in the same way they were against Indiana, I do wonder if we have to endure 5+ more years of Scott Frost's ENTIRE staff. I haven't listened to this episode yet. I will. It will be part of my Monday listening while I'm at work. But give it a listen and leave your feedback below. You all are awesome and Corn Nation wouldn't be anything without you. Sincerely, Greg Maddog Mehochko Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This podcast shares the habits and practices of peak performers and top leaders, from many walks of life; physicians, senior executives, entrepreneurs, and academics. And from every season, from the seasoned and sage to those emerging leaders and rising rock stars. All who are blazing trails and shining a light for others. Erin Sorenson is well-known and respected by Husker Nation for her coverage of Nebraska Athletics as the Deputy Editor for Hail Varsity magazine. In this week’s Growth Edge podcast, she shares her powerful story about being a woman in the male-dominated world of sports journalism, the power of relationships and storytelling, and her road to recovery from an accident she says nobody should have survived.
Man, we think we know what we're talking about, do you think you know what you're talking about...do you know what we're talking about? Does anyone think they know what they're talking about? We think we're going to be good, but maybe not, but maybe. I think the relief is just that we have someone that knows what the fuck was up when we were fucking people up, you know what we mean? Do ya? Man...how long is this off season? It's long. Soooo long. We'll get through this Husker Nation...we will. ScoFroFoSho. Know it. Embrace it. Believe it. Live it. It will get better. It will improve. We'll all be high fiving the shit out of each other in a matter of months. GBR!!!
Today we discuss the Huskers’ loss to the Penn St. Nittany Lions, preview the black friday game against Iowa, and hopefully achieve some semblance of existential understanding as we peer into the psyche of Husker Nation, deconstructing the purposes and values Husker fans ascribe to support of our favorite team. In other words, we answer the question of why we all stick together in all types of weather.
Corn Nation was rocked this week with the news of the passing of one of our own as my “good friend, fellow Husker fan, and longtime broadcast buddy” Brian Towle passed away unexpectedly overnight. To say we were not prepared for that is an absolute understatement. Brian not only did so much writing for Corn Nation, but was a key figure in the behind-the-scenes operations as well. In the newest episode of the show, I am joined with Corn Nation’s head honcho Jon Johnston as we talk about Brian’s joining Corn Nation years ago, bringing me in, and all that he did for not just the site, but the community around it, his fellow contributors and all of the people he interacted with online. I also have a few special compilation pieces in honor of my dear friend. Rest in peace, Brian. There is a GoFundMe for funeral expenses and such for Brian. Every little bit helps, and Husker Nation has already risen to the occasion in great capacity, but there is still a bit that needs to be done. If you can help, please do. The links don’t change. Hey guys it's the end of June and you know what that means: Joe and Ryan run out of stuff to talk about 30 minutes in and talk about Ryan's new pair of fake testicles. I mean don't get me wrong, the first 30 minutes are FYRE but then the podcast really picks up steam when the fellas start slapping each other with Ryan's new latex balls. It may be obvious at this point but Pat is out of town - so there are no adults in the room and the two original Cobcasters take advantage of it and HAVE FUN FOR A CHANGE. We also talk about Keyshawn Sr., FNL (and spoiler we call that there will be two commits by the end of the day Saturday - and there were). Ryan also tells a great story about going to jail in Hartington.
