He describes the culture shock of moving from elite combat operations to a 30-bed spinal cord injury ward populated largely by elderly veterans, and the slow, deliberate realization that, in his words, the only person who was going to make his life better was him. Close the Gap Between Research and the Warfighter: Government funds enormous amounts of combat casualty research and technology that never reaches frontline providers fast enough.
