The Philadelphia Phillies 2025 season is here! We've been talking a ton of Phillies storylines as of late, and what we can expect from this team. Expectations are high, yet there is a pessimistic view of the team by the fan base right out of the gate. We'll dive into a ton of players and stories during our 2025 Phillies Season Preview. Also, John Stolnis from the Hittin' Season podcast and TheGoodPhight.com joined us for a great and in-depth discussion about this upcoming season. A great discussion all-around!First, the guys dove into that negative feeling we're getting from parts of the fan base as we head into the start of this Phillies season. Why are some so down about this team? (Approx. 5:30)From there, they discussed their top-3 predictions for the Phillies this season. (Approx. 11:25)Then the guys talked about how Cole Hamels will now be part of the Phillies broadcasts once per month.(Approx. 27:45)Then they dove into a number of player categories and which Phillies players fits into those categories.(Approx. 31:25)What they threw down on the Table this week was a fantastic discussion with John Stolnis from the Hittin' Season podcast and The Good Phight about various storylines surrounding the Phillies upcoming season. Might we see some drop off from Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola? What might the leadoff position look like throughout the year, and what it means for the offense? All of this and much more this week on the Table! Philadelphia Phillies reliever, Matt Strahm, has not pitched in a Spring Training game in nearly two weeks due to shoulder soreness. Strahm now says he's not feeling pain anymore, and will begin ramping back up, but he could be jeopardy of missing out on the Opening Day roster, and instead, hit the IL to begin the year. Who would take Strahm's spot on the 26-man roster if he is put on the IL? Plus, Cole Hamels is part of a bad first-year Hall of Fame candidate list for 2025 and our bold prediction for the NL Central.
Entering 2025, the BlueClaws have played 3,001 regular season games, and only once has a player hit three home runs. That was Jake Blalock, who did so on May 20, 2004 in a game at Lexington. Hour 2 of the show. continuing the discussion of Nick Sirianni's demeanor in light of Howard Eskin's comments the other day. With it being Cole Hamels' night, should the Phillies retire 35?
Tek & Prem welcome John Foley of PHLY Sports on the VetLine to talk Phils. They welcome in Arizona for an NLCS Rematch over the weekend. Cole Hamels retirement night will start it off and there should be great energy in the building. The Diamondbacks come in hot but still have much to prove, during a season where they have not performed like NL champs. As the trade deadline approaches it is abundantly clear that the outfield is lacking offensively. With the demotion of Rojas, the Phils have employed a platoon in LF and CF and there are big questions. To win a World Series you have to be solid from top to bottom. The Eagles are working their way towards Training Camp, which is still a month away. The comments coming out of the building have been interesting to say the least. The Sixers are in desperation mode, seemingly entertaining any and all acquisition possibilities. In today's High Hopes Jackie Baseball Report the guys discuss the downgrade from Johan Rojas to Brandon Marsh in centerfield and what the Phillies should do moving forward, Cole Hamels retirement night, and Jack's final Eagles chant from yesterday. Plus, OG Wade vs Spike Eskin.
The Phillies don't win the 2008 World Series without Cole Hamels. He went 4-0 with a 1.80 ERA in five postseason starts, winning World Series MVP and NLCS MVP honors in the process. He lived up to the hype as the 17th overall pick in the 2002 Draft, giving the Phillies a homegrown ace they desperately needed for years. Is Hamels one of the greatest Phillies ever? Absolutely. The old-school stats say so, but so do the new ones. Hamels ranks 11th all-time in WAR by a Phillies player, according to Baseball Reference, just behind Jimmy Rollins and Bobby Abreu, and just ahead of Chuck Klein and Curt Schilling. Hamels shared his favorite Phillies memories with Ruben, Jim and Todd before his June 21, 2024, retirement ceremony at Citizens Bank Park. He talked about getting drafted by the Phillies, the franchise's glorious run from 2007-11, drilling Bryce Harper with a pitch in 2012, throwing a no-hitter in his final Phillies start in 2015, and so much more.
