Filmmaker Amy C Elliott returns to the podcast to discuss one of the more frightening episodes of LHOTP. We dive into a ton of things and I hope you enjoy it! “Laura and Andy find a Mama in a trap and two pups nearby. They take the “dogs” home, only to find out they are wolves. At the same time, some dogs that used to be pets but were released to the wild have gotten really wild and have been attacking some livestock in town. Charles and Caroline have gone out of town and Mary is left in charge of Laura and Carrie. She is under stress so she is a little too bossy and Laura runs to her tree house as often as possible or hangs out with Andy. They overhear that Jud Larabee (whose livestock was attacked) knows about their wolves and thinking they are responsible is going to come and kill the wolves. So, Laura and Andy move the wolves to Laura’s barn. While out there, Carrie and Mary hear the dogs coming and they all go to the barn and end up trapped in the loft because the dogs burrow under the door and get in. The local farmers come to the rescue and kill the dogs and find out that the mama wolf actually saved Andy’s life!” The Wolves originally aired on October 17, 1977 Amy’s work is amazing and I really hope each of you check it out on her website https://www.ace-photography.com The opening song “Albert” is written and performed by the amazing Norwegian band, Project Brundlefly and is used with permission. It's finally Sweater-Weather season! Alison and Dean recap last week's live screening of "Country Girls" in Simi Valley, where people arrived in full Prairie drag, reminiscent of the Rocky Horror Picture Show... (good idea, am I right?!) They were joined by this week's guest, who also premiered in "Country Girls"--the incredible Tracie Savage, who played Christy Kennedy in the first 2 seasons of LHOTP. Tracie hadn't seen the cast in 48 years until she joined them at the 50th Anniversary festival in Simi Valley this past March! Fun fact: Tracie came from an entertainment family, and was the one child up against Melissa Gilbert for the role of Laura Ingalls. But she isn't bitter -- because she went on to have an incredible career in entertainment, (notably having a great death scene in the infamous Friday the 13rh franchise) and then found her calling in broadcast journalism, landing in Los Angeles, covering history-making stories such as the OJ Simpson trial. Speaking of OJ, Tracie tells a harrowing and riveting story of her experience having had to testify at the trial--and we are shook! Currently, Tracie is a college professor, where she feels the most gratified. Tracie is seriously awesome, you will love her story--and we are so happy that she a part of the Little House family. Then, Alison answers some of your listener questions, specifically for Nellie Season 1!And for more fun, join us on Facebook for the Little House Food Contest!! Little House on the Prairie takes us back to a time when modern distractions were stripped away and life was pared down to the values which define us: kindness, community, compassion and collaboration. Without the miracle of time travel, we do get to huddle together and gather ‘round the warmth of a streaming episode of Little House. Dean Butler played the man who put the “Wilder” in Laura Ingalls Wilder. He was the Prairie heartthrob who lit up the heart of Half-Pint and Little House fans the world over. Dean joins us to celebrate the release of his new book, Prairie Man: My Little House Life & Beyond, as well as the 50th Anniversary of of Little House which will be heralded at events throughout the summer.Dean shares the joys and challenges of fulfilling Michael Landon's exacting vision of Almanzo. He talks about his controversial age gap with co-star Melissa Gilbert (adhering to Little House history) her mother's anguished cries over their first kiss, his close, co-star bonds and how they all work together to honor and sustain the Little House legacy.Dean tells us about his tremendous admiration for Michael Landon and for fellow cast-mates who served as mentors like Katherine MacGregor and Victor French. He gives us some history on how Ed Friendly developed the books into the series but then diverged with Michael Landon over their TV adaptation. Dean also reveals some of the parallels he discovered in his relationships with both his father and with Michael Landon. And big news for Little House fans, the LHOTP reunion weekend at Big Sky Movie Ranch in Simi Valley was such a smash, tours of the sets will be continuing throughout the summer, some of which will be led by Dean! All that plus a round of LIttle House Trivia! In recommendations, Weezy enjoyed the Acorn series Kiri, and Fritz jumps into the Baby Reindeer conversation.Path Points of Interest:Dean ButlerPrairie Man: My Little House Life & BeyondDean Butler on WikiLittle House: 50 for Fifty PodcastDean Butler on InstagramDean Butler on TikTokDean Butler on FacebookLHOTP 50th Anniversary on Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce WebsiteGift of DemocracyKiri on AcornBaby Reindeer on Netflix

We pledge this episode to Miss Ingalls and the food she ate in the book LHOTP, which is, again, a paen to eating. But! On the way to Kansas and in Kansas, they had far less ingredients and cooking was much more challenging. So much cornbread, and Sweet Molasses–SO MUCH molasses. Also in this episode: One of the dearest Christmas vignettes ever committed to the page. Shownotes:Bookish foodies, let's hop in the old covered wagon for a trek across raging creeks and pioneer pathways, all the way to the Little House on the Prairie in Kansas. We'll talk about food eaten on the way to and at the Little House, and how Ma and Pa had to be super creative to keep their family fed on the frontier. Featuring a plenitude of cornbread, molasses and the captivating (really) prairie chicken, the menu at the cabin was nothing if not consistent. This book really could be called “Eating While Imperiled,” as the Ingalls family faced disaster or death every 43 pages. It wasn't all bad, though. Here's a charming recipe for the heart-shaped cakes they ate at Christmastime, for example. And here's a look at those Kansas Prairie hens ... https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=4a8b7cf59b69c426&q=prairie+hen+kansas&tbm=isch&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwig1ZjV6PuDAxXFlSYFHeuxApkQ0pQJegQIDhAB&biw=1280&bih=551&dpr=1.5Hey! An iconic TV character is immortal. That truth has become increasingly official in today's digital age where every episode is but a click away. And as Alison Arngrim has well learned, if you played the villain, folks are still pissed. Alison's portrayal of frontier hellion Nellie Oleson struck such a resonate chord with fans that Alison has learned to embrace the Nellie energy and use it for good. Her book is called, Confessions of a Prairie Bitch: How I survived Nellie Oleson and Learned to Love Being Hated.Raised in a bohemian show-biz family, Alison has been acting since early childhood. Her role as Nellie allowed her to vent the anger she carried due to suffering repeated sexual abuse at the hands of her brother. The power of Nellie gave her a voice to testify before the California State Senate and help create new law that criminalizes incest.Nellie also provided Alison with a platform to advocate for AIDS research, education and outreach when her TV husband and beloved friend Steve Tracy died of the disease. Her traumatic childhood caught up with her after the wonderful distraction of Little House was over and with a compass that points to “Happy,” she walked into a therapist's office at the age of 21 and said, “Here's what happened to me. Let's get to work.”Alison shares loads of backstage Little House stories and talks about her relationships, then and now, with her cast mates and she is definitely up for a round of LHOP Trivia!Plus, Fritz and Weezy are recommending the Barack Obama series, Working: What We Do All Day, on Netflix and Shrinking on Apple +, and we shout out the new album on Band Camp from Media Path friend, Melanie, The Magic Bus.Path Points of Interest:Alison ArngrimConfessions of a Prairie Bitch by Alison ArngrimAlison Arngrim on WikipediaAlison Arngrim on TwitterAlison Arngrim on InstagramAlison Arngrim on FacebookLivin' on a PrairieShrinking - Apple +Working: What We Do All Day on NetflixThe Magic Bus by Melanie

Ma and Pa leave town for a bang trip and leave the children in Edward's care. What could go wrong? Edwards almost shoots the girls, never changes his clothes, shoots a snake and makes the girls eat it, and nails Carrie to the roof. The Executive Producer for this episode of Walnut GroveCast is Stacy Keller Leah Mitchell returns to the show to discuss a classic episode of LHOTP! I hope you enjoy this half as much as we had recording it! "Mean Nellie Oleson snubs Laura and Mary for wearing homespun dresses on their first day at school and, when Laura later complains, Caroline reminds her to be kind to Nellie to win her friendship. But Caroline forgets her own wise words, loses her temper with Nellie's haughty mother, store owner Harriet Oleson, and impulsively buys dress fabric she can barely afford. Later, Laura struggles to write an essay for the Visitors' Day program and Caroline must decide what to do with the expensive fabric. When Visitors' Day arrives, their love for each other helps both mother and daughter solve their problems." From Plum Creek With Love: A Little House on the Prairie Podcast
When it rains it pours and in the case of Walnut Grove...it's been raining for TWO months. Mr. Edwards returns to town after losing work in Mankato and mentions how the entire state is underwater. However, he does have a plan. His plan involves the Ingallas and the Edwards/Snider/Sanderson troupe to leave Walnut Grove and head East into the Dakota territory to pan for Gold. The 400-mile trip leads them to Deadwood at which point they promptly leave and travel 50 more miles to arrive in Newton and then 5 miles beyond that to arrive at Shadow Creek. Along the way we meet the Griffin and Delano families who are more than happy to assist and join the caravan on their way to Newton. Once claims are...clamied it's a little lite hearted time as things are getting situated. In this time Laura and Carl meet an old Hermit, Zachariah, who lives along the banks of Shadow creek. However, when he hears that people are coming into the area to start looking for gold, Zachariah has some wisdom to share on the affects gold can have on people. He is speaking from experience. Will we ever see a map on LHOTP that shows the real location of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota? Does a covered wagon have really good sound insulation that it can drown out the sound of rainfall? Do you think that Seth Bullock and Al Swearengen were in Deadwood the same times the Ingallas and Edwards/Snider/Sanderson passed through?
Joe Kagan is Mother Debbie Done with plowing and heads to the exciting town of Sleepy Eye for a new life. He gets a job at Garvey's newest Amazon operation and is forced to "say hi to Mary." We meet Timmy, an angry boy who acts a lot like Little Jennie, and we have a showdown of choirs.Show Notes:To sign up for our Patreon feed, download the Patreon app or visit www.patreon.com/genxthisiswhyFollow Gen X, This is Why on Facebook: facebook.com/genxthisiswhy/Join our Facebook Group, The Me-Me B's for extra content, giveaways, and some fun Gen X introspection: facebook.com/groups/genxthisiswhy/And find us on Instagram at: @genxthisiswhyYou can find Amye at: @amyearcherwriterYou can find Jennie, but good luck with that.Questions? Little Joe, I mean Charles, tries desperately to install a window pane. We visit Amye's laundry corner, which is as exciting as it sounds, and we fondly remember the Fonz in his leather jacket water skiing with some sharks.Show Notes:To sign up for our Patreon feed, download the Patreon app or visit www.patreon.com/genxthisiswhyFollow Gen X, This is Why on Facebook: facebook.com/genxthisiswhy/Join our Facebook Group, The Me-Me B's for extra content, giveaways, and some fun Gen X introspection: facebook.com/groups/genxthisiswhy/And find us on Instagram at: @genxthisiswhyYou can find Amye at: @amyewatchestvYou can find Jennie, but good luck with that.Questions? Laura and Manly hit a rough patch as his impulse purchase of a dirt field comes back to haunt him. Harve is an absolute monster who spends weeks telling Eliza Jane how great she is-only to marry someone else and disappear. For some reason, Mary and Adam's anniversary brings the whole town together and in the grossest miscarriage of justice ever, Laura Ingalls and Almanzo Wilder, the classic lovers, get a quickie wedding ceremony in a blind school by a brokedown preacher. Oh, and Jennie can't even see Carrie anymore. So something positive comes out of all of this. Manly buys the farm. In other news, Eliza Jane is a 12-year-old forty-something whose diary rivals that of Lady Chatterly's, Laura gets a bomb teaching job that she immediately has to reject or she's not allowed to be married, and Nellie has some big news! Could Axl Rose have replaced Dean Butler as Manly? Jennie comes for weathermen, and there are four things worse than sharing a room with Carrie.Show Notes:To sign up for our Patreon feed, download the Patreon app or visit www.patreon.com/genxthisiswhyFollow Gen X, This is Why on Facebook: facebook.com/genxthisiswhy/Buy us a coffee and tell us what's on your mind: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/GenxthisiswhyJoin our Facebook Group, The Me-Me B's for extra content, giveaways, and some fun Gen X introspection: facebook.com/groups/genxthisiswhy/And find us on Instagram at: @genxthisiswhyYou can find Amye at: @amyearcherwriterYou can find Jennie, but good luck with that.Questions? Laura heads to Sleepy Eye to help set up the blind school and runs into public enemy #1: Manly. Manly is living there and decides to take a secret second job when he discovers Laura needs extra money to meet the rent. After Manly ends up nearly contracting syphilis, falling down the stairs, and getting packed in ice, Laura decides to forgive him. We meet Popeye's sidekick, Wimpy, who is cheeseburger adjacent, Michael Landon was definitely watching Moonlighting, and Jennie's cup makes a horrific banging sound that Amye now refuses to edit out. When Pa says they must wait two years until Laura is 18, everyone turns on the beloved patriarch and suddenly no one can remember why they worshipped the ground Pa walked on for the last 16 years. Percival Dalton is hired to do a Kitchen Nightmares-type revamp of Nellie's. His big plan: make it someone else's restaurant. No one in Walnut Grove has put together the pieces yet, so Albert's guilt over starting the blind school fire runs amok as does he- when he decides to take advantage of a Judge's hangover, steal classified information, and run to his birth father's “home.” Charles grabs his dime-store Ride or Die and they spend twenty valuable minutes of this episode looking for the boy. Jennie is still in the basement with Covid and she's researching fires and we have a real downer conversation about death. Trigger warning: It's dark.Show Notes:To sign up for our Patreon feed, download the Patreon app or visit www.patreon.com/genxthisiswhyFollow Gen X, This is Why on Facebook: facebook.com/genxthisiswhy/Buy us a coffee and tell us what's on your mind: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/GenxthisiswhyJoin our Facebook Group, The Me-Me B's for extra content, giveaways, and some fun Gen X introspection: facebook.com/groups/genxthisiswhy/And find us on Instagram at: @genxthisiswhyYou can find Amye at: @amyearcherwriterYou can find Jennie, but good luck with that.Questions? It's the first part of the blind school fire! Join us as we relive our deepest childhood trauma. Mary's baby is out of time as he is left to his own devices when Albert and some rando light the blind school on fire. Grace is the only one who tries to save the baby, but then uses him as a battering ram and gets nowhere. Jennie and Amye armchair quarterback this fire escape plan for a good ten minutes, and we ultimately blame almost everyone involved for this disaster.Jennie gives us a Christmas COVID update, we fight over plumbing and egresses, and Jennie talks about philosophy (Snooze).Show Notes:To sign up for our Patreon feed, download the Patreon app or visit www.patreon.com/genxthisiswhyFollow Gen X, This is Why on Facebook: facebook.com/genxthisiswhy/Buy us a coffee and tell us what's on your mind: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/GenxthisiswhyJoin our Facebook Group, The Me-Me B's for extra content, giveaways, and some fun Gen X introspection: facebook.com/groups/genxthisiswhy/And find us on Instagram at: @genxthisiswhyYou can find Amye at: @amyearcherwriterYou can find Jennie, but good luck with that.Questions? Charles' "grange trip" turns into a bang trip as he and Caroline attend their class reunion in Milwaukee. Charles is clearly uncomfortable as all of his high school buddies have become rich and miserable. Amy Fisher makes a surprise appearance as she tries to lure Charles into some sexy time by a pond- as usual. Caroline is also the object of desire for some 57-year-old dude who must have graduated when he was 32. We have big news: our mother has started listening and we are f*cked. Jennie talks about beer for way too long, and Amye introduces Jennie to sales ponies.Show Notes:To sign up for our Patreon feed, download the Patreon app or visit www.patreon.com/genxthisiswhyFollow Gen X, This is Why on Facebook: facebook.com/genxthisiswhy/Buy us a coffee and tell us what's on your mind: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/GenxthisiswhyJoin our Facebook Group, The Me-Me B's for extra content, giveaways, and some fun Gen X introspection: facebook.com/groups/genxthisiswhy/And find us on Instagram at: @genxthisiswhyYou can find Amye at: @amyearcherwriterYou can find Jennie, but good luck with that.Questions? In this episode, we meet Bart Slater, a thirty-seven-year-old Freshman who bullies everyone in school. Albert the Fixer devises an elaborate plan to rid the school of Bart, but Carrie opens up her trash mouth and ruins everything. Ms. Beadle does not come out against the existence of werewolves, and once again, Walnut Grove is undone by the lack of solid facts and peer-reviewed evidence. Amye rails against school boards, we are introduced to Mob Justice-different than Creek Justice, and Jennie comes out in favor of a good beat down.Show Notes:To sign up for our Patreon feed, download the Patreon app or visit www.patreon.com/genxthisiswhyFollow Gen X, This is Why on Facebook: facebook.com/genxthisiswhy/Buy us a coffee and tell us what's on your mind: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/GenxthisiswhyJoin our Facebook Group, The Me-Me B's for extra content, giveaways, and some fun Gen X introspection: facebook.com/groups/genxthisiswhy/And find us on Instagram at: @genxthisiswhyYou can find Amye at: @amyearcherwriterYou can find Jennie, but good luck with that.Questions?
