Join our champion program: mark@themomentumcompany.comAttend a Thriving Leader event: https://thriving-leader-2026.lovable.app/Instagram: @the.momentum.companyLinkedIn: /momentum-companyIn this episode of The Intentional Agribusiness Leader, Mark sits down with Duane Simpson, CEO of the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives, for a wide-ranging and timely conversation on leadership, policy, and navigating uncertainty in agribusiness.Duane brings a rare perspective — blending decades of experience in government, global agribusiness, and cooperative leadership — to help leaders understand what's really happening behind the headlines in Washington, how policy decisions impact the farmer balance sheet, and why intentional leadership matters more now than ever. This episode isn't about politics for politics' sake. It's about clarity, resilience, and leading people well in a season of volatility.Key TakeawaysIntentional leadership is about designing moments, not just delivering messagesDuane defines intentionality as thinking deeply about what people should feel, know, and do after a leadership moment — whether that's a major announcement, a transition, or a difficult conversation. Leaders who ignore the emotional component leave impact on the table. The farmer balance sheet is under real pressureAcross agriculture, farmers are navigating rising costs, tight margins, and uncertainty. Duane explains that NCFC's work centers on two levers: lowering input costs and expanding markets — both critical to long-term farm viability.Policy details matter more than headlinesFrom tariffs to labor to the updated dietary guidelines, Duane breaks down how seemingly distant policy decisions directly affect domestic demand, production costs, and competitiveness for U.S. farmers. The nuance matters — and leaders need to understand it.Ag labor is one of the most pressing cost challengesLabor availability and affordability continue to strain producers, especially in specialty crops and dairy. Duane explains why existing systems like H-2A are imperfect — and why solutions must balance realism with economic sustainability.Technology won't replace people — but it will reshape rolesAI, automation, and software will elevate average performance faster, reduce friction, and shift how work gets done. The leaders who win will focus on adaptability, resilience, and redeploying people into higher-value roles — not eliminating them.Notable Quotes“Intentionality is thinking about what you want people to come away with — how they feel, what they know, and what they do next.” — Duane Simpson“The volatility and uncertainty are more damaging to the economy than any single tariff.” — Duane Simpson“Technology can't replace human connection — especially in agriculture.” — Duane Simpson“Intentional leadership matters more now because the noise is louder than it's ever been.” — Mark JewellAction StepsAudit how you communicate big moments with your team — are you designing the experience or just delivering information?Stay informed beyond headlines. Understand how policy details affect your operation.Plan for workforce transitions. Automation should elevate people, not disconnect them.Create space to think. Reading, walking, and reflection are leadership disciplines — not luxuries.Double down on human connection. In-person conversations still matter.Listen If...

Phil Daley and Chris Reeve chew the Christmas fat after the 1-1 draw at Preston.
Watford salvage another 3 points from the jaws of defeat as they come from behind to beat Norwich 3-2 at Vicarage Road.Ned and James are back to discuss the game and perhaps the more questions than answers that came out of it.What is going on with the back four? constant individual mistakes. Is it a personnel issue? is it the tactics? or is it the midfield not protecting them as they should? which leads the boys on to the question of: is the 4-4-2 working? a lot of joy from those fullbacks going forward. But leaking goals and being far too easy to play through in the middle is posing a lot of questions. Do we actually have the midfielders to play in a 4-4-2? Coming from behind to win points is fantastic... but not sustainable. What needs to change? The boys are finally back to the usual podcast! Tale of the Game. Guess the Player. All the trimmings. In this episode of Rivercity 93, we break down Richmond's hard-fought 1–0 loss to NCFC, decided by an 80th-minute goal that slipped through an otherwise solid defensive setup. The Kickers showed tactical flexibility, frequently dropping into a back five with Dak helping anchor the line, and Pablo Jara delivered his best performance in goal since joining the club—making multiple key saves to keep the team in it.But despite the improved defensive shape, Richmond struggled again on set pieces and couldn't convert one-on-one chances. We dig into what worked, what didn't, and what needs to change moving forward.Plus, we revisit the ongoing questions around creativity in the final third, missed opportunities, and what the team's ceiling really looks like with this system.
Strap in for a chaotic matchday recap as Richmond's team bus breaks down and the squad is forced to Uber to the stadium. On the field, defensive mistakes dig an early hole, but Darwin Espinal and Matt Bolduc claw the Kickers back for a 2-2 draw against Westchester. We break down the goals, tactical changes, and standout performances—including Beckett Howell's first assist and Darwin's all-action display.Plus, we ask: how should we line up vs NCFC, and what does this result mean moving forward? Also featuring a special 60-second ad read from the USLPA's Support Your Local Footballer campaign.

Hello Rank Squad! We're well into the final stretch of this domestic season now, and whilst there are many things decided - Bayern and Liverpool are going to win their domestic leagues, for example, and certain relegation fights seem over before they've begun - there is still plenty of drama to be getting stuck into if you know where to look. So consider this episode a little bit of a guide - we start with the fight for European football in the Premier League, from the Champions League all the way down to the Conference League; before turning our attention to the title races in Italy and Spain. We also take a look at the European scraps in both of those leagues, as well as a mad Bundesliga dogfight in the middle of the park for very few European spaces. Jack finishes us off with a little whip round some of the most interesting stories from the relegation dogfights in Spain, Italy and France - including a team who were in the opening stages of the Champions League sleepwalking towards relegation, and Parma's unusual method of attempting to draw themselves to safety. It's Ranks! And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?

This week's Open Mic guest is Chuck Conner, President and CEO of the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives. A veteran of 9 farm bills, Conner's been on the markup side of policy on the Hill and the implementation side at USDA. Conner notes most of the bill's debate on the House Ag Committee was more about nutrition programs than the farm safety net, but real differences remain between key players and should be worked out as the bill advances. He also discusses actions to address California's Prop. 12 and the adverse impacts on those least able to afford higher food prices.
As the voice of farmer-owned cooperatives nationwide, the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives (NCFC) is at the forefront of advocating for policies that support the success and sustainability of American agriculture.
