Dan Bardell and Dave Reed are back to preview Aston Villa v Brentford at Villa Park on Sunday. The big question is, will either Douglas Luiz or Tammy Abraham come straight into the team? Sponsor: MedExpress Visit MedExpress.co.uk to check your eligibility and get 30% off with code VILLA
This was never going to be a glamorous window, but certainly few would have expected such a twist. With Aston Villa hit by a cluster of midfield injuries at the worst possible time, this transfer catch-up looks at the merit of the triple signings of former players, that were originally signed by Dean Smith. Are we upgrading? Gambling? Or is it just damage limitation? The conversation centres on the loss of Kamara, Tielemans, and McGinn and why that trio underpins almost everything Villa do well. Defensive stability. Control. Goal contributions. Take all three out and you are not tweaking a system, you are protecting one. That context frames the return of Douglas Luiz, the intrigue around Tammy Abraham, and the pragmatic reality behind Leon Bailey's situation. None are presented as silver bullets. All are discussed as players at career crossroads, arriving not to transform Villa but to stabilise them. The sentimentality that the trio brings makes the signings a cut above a punt on an unknown, and all three have proven already they can do a job in claret and blue.UTVGet a Great NordVPN DealGet a cracking deal on NordVPN with four months FREE & a 30 days money-back guarantee here: nordvpn.com/momsGET AD-FREE SHOWS and JOIN MATCH CLUBGet ad-free shows and extra shows, and join My Old Man Said's 24/7 Villa community, Match Club. For more details and to become a member, click here: Become a MOMS MemberJoin the show's listener facebook group The Mad Few.Credits:David Michael - @myoldmansaid Chris Budd - @BUDD_musicPhillip Shaw - @prsgameMusic production & creation - David MichaelMy Old Man Said - https://www.myoldmansaid.comThis Podcast has been created and uploaded by My Old Man Said. Nottingham Forest fans appear to be becoming increasingly divided over the future of manager Sean Dyche after a run of one win in five Premier League games and elimination from the FA Cup. The anger comes from not just results but also performances and the style of play. What should fans expect from Dyche given the terrible scenario he inherited with Forest in the relegation after the Ange Postecoglou disaster? Could he be sacked before the end of the season? Would that be a mad gamble? Will conversations over his future take place at the end of the season? Or should he get a pre-season regardless if he keeps Forest up? We'll discuss that, as well as his interview after the Wrexham game when he sharply criticised players who came into the team. Then there are question marks over the long term futures of the likes of James McAtee and Douglas Luiz if Forest secure their short term goal of staying up. Matt Davies is joined by Michael Temple and Reds legend Garry Birtles to reflect on the Wrexham game and look ahead to the return of Ibrahim Sangare. #nffc #nottinghamforest

Wolfie dissects yet another defeat for Ange Postecoglou and Forest! To Buy Wolfie A Coffee! Click Here: https://buymeacoffee.com/forestfantv Wolfie dissects this frustrating Premier League defeat at St James' Park on Sunday afternoon, with Postecoglou's Reds now winless in seven. Bruno Guimarães scored in the 58th minute, and new signing Nick Woltemade added late on second with a penalty for a 2-0 Newcastle win—Forest managed just 0.27 xG, raising doubts about Ange's defensive shift from his usual Angeball flair, with neither seem to be working right now. Elliot Anderson's penalty concession—fouling his ex-teammate Guimarães—highlighted the irony of facing his boyhood club, while Chris Wood and Morgan Gibbs-White toiled without service. Injuries to Murillo, Douglas Luiz, Ola Aina and Zinchenko forced makeshift changes, but the result was the same: a toothless display that echoed recent woes, with Forest now 17th and staring down the barrel of relegation fears. Will Ange be sacked during the international break, with Evangelos Marinakis' patience thinning amid unrest rumours and zero wins? Wolfie dissects yet another terrible result for Ange Postecoglou and Forest! Lots of Forest Prizes To Win! For Only 39p! https://win.footballprizes.co.uk/forestfftv Wolfie is back just hours after another gut-wrenching defeat at the City Ground in the Europa League, where Forest's first home European game in 30 years ended in a 3-2 loss to Midtjylland on Thursday. Despite a minor fightback with goals from Ndoye and Wood, defensive lapses left the Reds winless in six games under Ange Postecoglou—Wolfie breaks down the key moments, from missed chances to the Danish side's clinical edge, leaving fans stunned on this historic night. The burning question now is whether it's already time for Ange to go, with the loss exposing his high-risk Angeball style as Forest conceded three at home despite dominating possession—can this attacking philosophy survive another setback, or has the patience of Evangelos Marinakis worn thin? Can Ange Postecoglou get his first win as Nottingham Forest manager? Lots of Forest Prizes To Win! For Only 39p! https://win.footballprizes.co.uk/forestfftv Wolfie is here to look ahead to Saturday's Premier League showdown at the City Ground, where new manager Ange Postecoglou makes his home debut still searching for that elusive first win after a mixed bag of draws and defeats. With Forest sitting 15th and Sunderland impressively seventh with eight points from five games, this fixture is a must-not-miss—Wolfie breaks down the stakes, from Angeball's potential to shine under the lights to the Black Cats' strong second-half scoring threat that could test the Reds' resolve. Wolfie dives into his expected team lineup, weighing who should start for the Reds: Igor Jesus looks guaranteed to lead the line after his stunning brace in the 2-2 Europa League draw against Real Betis, marking Forest's first European goals in 30 years and putting him ahead of Chris Wood for now. Midfield maestro Morgan Gibbs-White could pull the strings, with Douglas Luiz anchoring, but the big question is the defence—will Murillo be back fit after recovering well from his knock against Arsenal, boosting the backline alongside Morato? Neco Williams impressed at Burnley, so expect him to hold the right flank. #nffc #sunderland #premierleague Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Well that was quite the ride wasn't it? Reds fans took over corners of Seville and had their first European night in thirty years. They were rewarded by a stellar first half display, despite going a goal down after 15 mins; but Igor Jesus' quickfire double saw the supporters in dreamland, both in the stadium and watching back home. Unfortunately the subs were telling; Betis made three half-time changes and Forest were forced into replacing Douglas Luiz, and that gave impetus to the Spaniards. Nonetheless, Matz Sels was largely untroubled until the last 10-15 mins, and Antony's late strike ensured a share of the spoils on a memorable night. Steven Toplis is joined by a tired and hoarse Tom Newton, who had sampled the delights of Seville and revelled in the Reds' European journey. Aston Villa stormed into the Champions League, but their success on the pitch is a brutal financial battle off it. This episode dives deep into the "Ambition vs. The Spreadsheet" dilemma, exploring how Unai Emery's brilliant tactical success has collided head-on with the Premier League's unforgiving Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). We break down why the club was forced to sell key players like Douglas Luiz and Jacob Ramsey, and how the rules incentivize selling homegrown talent. Is Villa a victim of its own ambition, or a symbol of a system that punishes clubs for daring to challenge the elite? We analyze their high-energy playing style and ballooning wage bill to reveal a club masterfully managed on the field but trapped by a financial paradox.Aston Villa, Premier League, PSR Rules, Unai Emery, football finance

Matt Davies is joined by the i paper's chief football writer Daniel Storey and Harrogate Town goalkeeper James Belshaw to discuss the latest Nottingham Forest transfer news on Douglas Luiz, Arnaud Kalimuendo, Omari Hutchinson and James McAtee. James also breaks down two of the goals from Sunday's 3-1 win over Brentford, plus we look at Forest's increased possession stats and ask if that is going to be the way the team plays now. James also discusses his time playing alongside Elliot Anderson at Bristol Rovers as they went from the lower reaches of League Two to winning promotion with Anderson their outstanding player. James explains why he would have Anderson ahead of Morgan Gibbs-White if he could only pick one player. We also discuss the possibility of Luiz joining from Juventus and ask if it is a risky deal for Forest. Finally, we discuss the aborted minute's silence for Diogo Jota and his brother before the Brentford game thanks to the pretty disgraceful actions of one Forest fan. #nffc #nottinghamforest
Nottingham Forest are showing the Premier League they mean business this season as they won their first match 3-1 against Brentford in emphatic fashion. Before the match new signings Omari Hutchinson and James McAtee were introduced on the pitch and Arnaud Kalimuendo has since signed from Rennes on a five year deal. Douglas Luiz could follow from Juventus while further signings could follow with interest in Manchester City's Rico Lewis. Matt Davies is joined by Greg Mitchell, Mark Sutherns and Reds legend Garry Birtles to discuss the game in full and the latest transfer news. #nffc #nottinghamforest
Nottingham Forest kicked off their Premier League season in dream fashion as they comfortably beat Brentford 3-1 at the City Ground on Sunday. Chris Wood scored twice with Dan Ndoye also on target before Brentford pulled one back from the penalty spot after a handball from Ibrahim Sangare. We'll discuss the game in full as well as the latest transfer news as Omari Hutchinson and James McAtee sign five year deals and were paraded before kick-off. Arnaud Kalimuendo and Douglas Luiz seem set to follow with Forest pushing to sign Rico Lewis from Manchester City. Matt Davies is joined by Chris Aylmer and Simon Fotheringham. #NFFC #nottinghamforest
Nottingham Forest look set to spend around £100m on new signings and maybe more as they close in on a series of transfers. Arnaud Kalimuendo is set to join from Rennes for £26m, James McAtee from Manchester City for £30m and Omari Hutchinson from Ipswich Town for £37.5m. Sky Sports have also reported that Forest are in talks with Juventus over Douglas Luiz. Meanwhile, Reds manager Nuno Espirito Santo has told Sky he is 'very worried' about where Forest are after a summer where plans didn't come together at the speed he wanted in unusually forthright comments to the media. On top of that, Callum Hudson-Odoi is set to sign a new contract according to Daniel Taylor of the Athletic and Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports and then there is the small matter of the opening Premier League game of the season Sunday against Brentford. Matt Davies is joined by Michael Temple in part one to discuss the transfer news, Nuno's comments and Hudson-Odoi's deal. Then in part two he is joined by Emily Anderson (10 minutes later) former Reds midfielder Lewis McGugan to preview the Brentford game and discuss Kalimuendo and McAtee. #NFFC #nottinghamforest
Matt Davies is joined by Dan Cook, Pete Blackburn and, at the start of the show, Mark Sutherns as we answered listener questions on all things Nottingham Forest. Topics on the agenda include reports from Italy that Ibrahim Sangare could join Juventus with Douglas Luiz going the other way. We also address the possibility of another striker joining and say what our top priority signing would be right now. #nffc #nottinghamforest
After weeks of silence from English media, The Athletic have finally reported on Nottingham Forest's interest in Douglas Luiz. We also have a scouting report on Angus Gunn after his arrival on a free transfer. Matt Davies speaks with Connor Southwell, chief Norwich City reporter for the Eastern Daily Press, to get the loan down on the Scotland goalkeeper. There's also a profile on Forest's final pre-season opponents Al-Qadsiah with Reds fan Hugo Somner who lives in Saudi Arabia and has seen them play. #NFFC #nottinghamforest
After a few weeks of intense negotiations and some headline-grabbing comments to the Italian press from his agent, Juventus and Marseille finally agreed to a deal for USMNT winger Timothy Weah. It wasn't the only transfer-related thing going around at Juventus this week, with Douglas Luiz returning to training and the Randal Kolo Muani negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain still on going. With that in mind we speak to our regular Aston Villa correspondent Steve Farmer about what the former Villa star would offer if he were to sign from the Serie A giants. We discuss his style of play, best position, set pieces and if there are any questions over his character. #nffc #nottinghamforest
Nottingham Forest have scored one goal in five pre-season games as they prepare for the Premier League season. We discuss if that's a worry or if it's just pre-season. Matt Davies is joined by Michael Temple and Paul Morley. #nffc #nottinghamforest

We'll discuss that news as well as reports on Southampton's Mateus Fernandes and Fulham's Adama Traore. Meanwhile, The Telegraph's John Percy filed a news filled report from Portugal on Forest's style of play next season, Elliot Anderson and Carlos Miguel. We'll discuss all of that as Matt Davies is joined by Emily Anderson, Mikey Clarke and Matt Davies-Adams. #nffc #nottinghamforest
