We're on a mission to help one million people RISE by 2030 - join the movement at www.myrise.co.uk Remember when you complained to your parent(s) that “that's not fair”……… And they'd reply with “Life's not fair”? It's true. It's not. Things don't automatically happen or not because it's “right” or “wrong”. “Fair” or not. Sometimes things are fair. Sometimes they're not. And sometimes we think they aren't when they, in fact, are. It's tempting to think when we're struggling to lose weight that we have a “bad metabolism”. That someone else has a better one than us. Our “friend who can eat anything and not gain weight”. What we mean when we say our metabolism is usually the number of calories we can consume and lose, maintain or gain weight. And the research shows that the vast majority of that is down to our body size and composition and activity levels. Completely fair. And the research shows that the differences in calorie requirements outside of that are minimal. Usually within +/- 80 calories per day. Ie: The person with the “bad” metabolism would lose weight if they just ate (at the very most) 160 calories less per day than the otherwise matched “good” metabolism person. But the real kicker with this one is that there is no average correlation between those variations and weight. Ie: It's equally likely that the “bad” metabolism person is lean and the “good” metabolism person is overweight as the other way around. So, from a weight loss perspective, at least, life is actually pretty fair. And, as in all areas, even if it's not, we can only play the hand we're dealt. Much love, Jon ‘In love and war' Hall

Anger is an appropriate response to something which is not right. The Bible says 'be angry and sin not'. So when does anger become a sin? Ken Legg continues his series 'When Life Doesn't Seem Fair' today on Set Free. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Sometimes life just doesn't seem fair. And guess what? It's nothing new. Many Bible characters also experienced this seemingly 'unfair' treatment from God too. We'll see how THEY handled their situations, and we'll discover that God is bigger than any problem we're facing. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Matthew 26:36-46 Jesus prayed that He wouldn't have to go through suffering, but submitted himself to the Father's plan. When life doesn't seem fair, will we respond like Jesus? God's plan seldom makes sense in the midst of pain, but we can receive strength and peace if we trust in our heavenly Father.

Series Description: We are in a time of year when words like thankfulness, thanksgiving and gratitude are more commonly heard in conversation and are more prevalent in our culture's general rhetoric. In Scripture we find that gratefulness is an incredibly important part of the path of discipleship, and we now know from modern studies just how impactful adopting a mindset of gratitude can be for a person's mental, physical and emotional health. During this series we will explore topics connected to gratitude in an effort to pursue lifestyles that are “overflowing with thanksgiving” (Colossians 2:7).

Author, Babylon Bee writer, and excellent Twitter follow Frank J. Fleming joins Doug TenNapel and Ethan Nicolle to discuss the unpopular idea that fairness is not achievable, and government often makes it worse because by necessity, a government enforcing fairness must put people in unfair positions of power. It's all very convoluted, but fun. Later, each tells a story of a celebrity encounter because why not be totally tacky and obnoxious? This is the MULLET. Check out Frank's book Hellbender (Ethan did the cover!) and also Sidequest (Ethan did not do the cover, but loves this book) And follow Frank on Twitter.

Rev. Dr. Tom Walker Life's Not Fair: Now What? Job 42:1-6, 16-17 Genesis 4:1-7
You probably won’t understand today's quote unless you’ve been reading along “Make Your Bed” during our first Greatness Everyday book study. In Chapter 4 of the book, Admiral McRaven describes one of his Navy SEALs training “exercises” when he had to wake up early in the morning, run into the ocean, and then roll around until he was covered entirely by sand for the rest of the day. (This is what was called a “sugar cookie”) His lesson in this chapter was that in life there are some things we can’t control, life is sometimes unfair, and you have to get over these obstacles and keep moving forward… (no matter where the sand ends up…) Don’t complain, don’t blame, keep pushing on! . Please subscribe to our YouTube channel and then notifications on to know when we release a new video on Mondays and podcasts on Tuesdays and Saturdays! . If you know of REAL PEOPLE living GREAT LIVES, let us know and maybe they will be featured.

Celebration of New Ministry, Sermon delivered at All Saints Kingsway on September 24, 2017
As the story of St. Peter being freed from prison demonstrates, the invitation to trust in God is not an invitation to live in a fantasy world where life always works out. It's an invitation to experience hope, care, love, and justice in the midst of the hard reality we all know: that life is in fact pretty unfair.
Best Destiny. Captain James T. Kirk: to many, the quintessential Starfleet hero. Courageous, selfless, and principled, the embodiment of Starfleet and the Federation's ideals. However, he wasn't always the hero we know and love. As a boy, Jimmy Kirk was on a path to a much different destiny. How did this troubled young man grow up to be the legend? Join us as we explore his humble beginnings in a story that inspired elements of Star Trek 2009! In this episode of Literary Treks hosts Matthew Rushing, Dan Gunther and Bruce Gibson talk about Best Destiny. We discuss it being on the short list, the 09 tie in, the Kirk story, fathers and sons, life's not fair, control of the soul, change and flexibility and our ratings. In the news we talk about the blurb for Una McCormack's upcoming DS9 book Enigma Tales and then ask a question about the DS9 literature series.
