After college, he immediately immersed himself in the film industry, working on such films as THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, DJANGO UNCHAINED, and TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION, among others. In the feature world, Michael wrote and produced an action trilogy, titled ROGUE WARFARE. The second film in the series ranked #1 it's first week on Netflix. More recently, Michael started producing for Yale Entertainment, including such films as AS THEY MADE US, RARE OBJECTS, and THE KILL ROOM.

Darum geht's... Kinostart: 21.03.2024 Bildrechte: © 2024 Universal Studios. Alle Rechte vorbehalten.

This underappreciated low key gem gives us the best Uma Thurman lead of the modern era - seriously why is this woman not used more? And if it isn't her wondrous basket case of an art gallery owner/modern art guru wannabe on screen, its Samuel L Jackson - what more do you want? It may be a tad obvious and predictable but its 100% worth the (short) ride for Uma alone.

Director Nicol Paone discusses her new film, The Kill Room, with fellow Director Jim Rash in a Q&A at the DGA theater in Los Angeles. In the conversation, Paone discusses taking lessons from making her last film, creating a soundtrack that helped balance the film's dramedy tone, and working with both a production designer and art advisor to establish the artistic look of the film. The film tells the story of an art dealer who teams with a hitman and his boss for a money laundering scheme, trading paintings by way of assassinations. But when the exchange accidentally launches the hitman's work into fame, the dealer is forced to pit her art world against the underworld. Is the film industry still a man's world, or are women now leading the way? How will AI affect films? These are just some of the questions addressed by a panel of four leading women working in film, who joined Anna Smith at this year's Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival (EMIFF). They also talked about the creative and business side of the industry, and their work-life balance. The 12th edition of EMIFF was produced with her usual flair and creativity by festival director Sandra Seeling, who invited Girls On Film back for another panel featuring four high profile panellists, to join Anna Smith on stage at the Sala Rivoli in Palma on 21 October 2023. In this recording of that event, listen to our guests talk about how they got started in the industry, the importance of mentorship, and how to lead well. Anna is joined, first off, by Nurhan Sekerci-Porst, Germany-based producer of films including In The Fade and Rheingold. From the USA, she welcomes Nicol Paone, the writer, director and producer whose film The Kill Room, which stars Uma Thurman and Samuel L Jackson, played at the festival. She is joined by her fiancé Nicole Weis, Head Of Theatrical Distribution at IFC Films. And finally she is joined by Rosie Fellner, actress, producer and owner of Rosebud Productions. This international panel gave some riveting insight into working in the industry. The conversation takes some surprising turns and is inspiring and funny. Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of September 29, 2023. The big movie of the week is from "Rogue One's" Gareth Edwards and is called "The Creator", an original and creative sci-fi tale about humans battling Artificial Intelligence. As we enter the spooky month of October, many movies have a horror bent to them, including Uma Thurman & Sam Jackson back in a movie together again in "The Kill Room," "Reptile" with Benicio Del Toro, Justin Timberlake & Alicia Silverstone about a detective finding out the murder of a real estate agent was only the beginning of a web of crime in a small town, and of course "Saw X", another entry in the torture-horror movie series. For less creepy fare, there is a new entry in the "PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie" animated series, a stylized 39-minute movie from director Wes Anderson based on the Roald Dahl short story called "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar." And Bono's daughter Eve Hewson shines in "Flora and Son" on streaming, a touching story about the power of music and its ability to connect people. In 2008 in Canada, a highly controversial movie script found its way into the police's hands. When they read it, they immediately told the filmmaker that they would not be allowed to produce the script into a movie, and then the police wiped the script from the face of the earth... Except recently I got my hands on an uncensored full version, and I used it, along with several news reports, to tell the highly controversial story that was supposed to stay a secret. In this podcast, we interview Heather Harper-Troje, a former PETA fieldworker. At the behest of PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk, it was her job “to get as many animals as possible” by promising people that they would find homes knowing that “the vast majority of those animals were [to be] killed.” Harper-Troje says killing is not an ancillary part of the job; it goes to the core of the mission. She also describes how a dog named “Black Boy” set her back on the path to animal rights and away from PETA. The PETA kill room. The fact that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has a kill room where it routinely injects thousands of animals a year with fatal doses of barbiturates, including healthy puppies and kittens without ever making them available for adoption, may still come as a surprise to some. Though this killing has been going on now for well over two decades, there are still many people who are unaware and therefore continue to support it through their financial contributions to that organization.Indeed, killing is not an ancillary part of PETA's Community Animal Project; it goes to the core of the mission. “The objective of the program,” says Heather Harper-Troje, a former PETA fieldworker, “was to get as many animals as possible and the vast majority of those animals were killed.” Nothing came between that objective and the staff, including lying to people by telling them that the animals would be adopted: “I was told to pretty much say anything I needed to say to gain custody of an animal… I was told to lie by my direct supervisors directly and then by [PETA founder] Ingrid [Newkirk]…”The evidence is overwhelming. It not only includes the testimony of Harper-Troje, but another field worker who has since come forward, describing the culture of killing as “terrifying.” Puppies killed by PETA in the back of a van — a donor funded slaughterhouse on wheels. It also includes:* The data, self-reported by PETA to the Virginia Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, showing most animals they seek out are killed.* An inspection report by the Commonwealth of Virginia showing PETA kills 90% of animals within 24 hours without even trying to find them homes.* An OpEd piece written by Ingrid Newkirk which admits that PETA supports a policy that all “pit bulls” should be killed in all shelters in America.* PETA joining a group whose mission it is to kill dogs based on how they look.* The trial of PETA employees after they were found to be rounding up and killing animals in the back of a van despite promising to find them homes.* PETA stealing Maya, a happy and healthy dog, from her home and then illegally killing her.* A judge's ruling calling out PETA's attorney for “unprofessional” and “contemptuous” conduct in the case of Maya; a lawsuit they settled for $49,000 after losing a motion arguing that Maya was worthless.* PETA arguing community cats are better dead than sterilized and fed.* The Virginia Federation of Humane Societies asking the Commonwealth of Virginia to revoke PETA's ability to take in and kill animals. * PETA telling a Mayor to kill all pit bulls, not to foster animals, and not to work with rescue groups.* Ingrid Newkirk admitting that PETA kills healthy, adoptable animals.* Photographs of animals PETA killed. * Intake and disposition records of kittens PETA had killed.* Additional records showing PETA rounds up to kill cats and kittens.* Even more records showing PETA rounds up to kill cats and kittens.A healthy mother cat and her two equally healthy kittens were given to PETA by a veterinarian who was trying to find them homes and was told by PETA employees that they would have no problem adopting them out. Instead, the PETA employees killed them within minutes in the back of a van.And not only does PETA kill cats themselves, they demonize community cats in order to get counties to round up and kill them, too. Per PETA, ‘cats smell, they are a nuisance, make too much noise, are a public health and rabies threat, transmit disease and parasites, including “roundworms, hookworms, and even plague,” and “terrorize and kill” 15 billion other animals a year.' These are hardly the words of an animal-loving rights group. There's more. A dog, for example, died following three days of suffering in his kennel, with no medical or supportive care at Sumter County Animal Services in Florida. In response to criticism, county officials maintained that their job was not to save lives, but to provide “euthanasia services” and “culling” of animals. Despite this neglect, PETA sided with the pound, thanking pound staff even though they did not adopt any animals, had no veterinarian onsite to provide medical care, did not allow volunteers to care for animals, and did not allow the public to photograph animals in violation of the First Amendment and Federal law. PETA also thanked pound staff for “standing firmly” against citizens who are working to ensure that neglect is eliminated, lives are saved, adoptioned occur, volunteers are allowed, and constitutional rights are protected. To learn more and to learn why, read or listen to an audio version of Why PETA Kills. To learn more about my overwhelming victory against PETA in court, read PETA v. Winograd. To learn about the neglected dog who set Heather back on the path to animal rights and away from PETA, read Rescued by Black Boy.Heather's interview is from August, 2017. It is still very relevant today. This is a public episode. If you'd like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit news.nathanwinograd.org/subscribe

Mark Twitchell really wanted to become a serial killer. In 2008, after discovering the Showtime series, Dexter, it had become his latest obsession. The aspiring filmmaker felt like he related to Dexter Morgan, the methodical serial killer so good at continually covering his tracks. Mark thought he was just as clever as Dexter, and would be able to get away with murder just as easily. Boy was he wrong. Mark constantly overrated his abilities. As a filmmaker, as a businessman, as a lover, and as a killer, this compulsive liar would leave a ridiculous amount of evidence behind after his first murder that made it incredibly easy for detectives to catch him. He actually wrote down all the details of his murder in a document on his laptop called SK confessions. As in, "serial killer" confessions. The entertaining tale of probably the dumbest killer we've covered so far, today, on Timesuck. We had the pleasure of interviewing Ryan and Pony over Zoom video! Ryan And Pony is a brand-new project from two indie-rockers who have been kicking around the much-vaunted Minneapolis music scene for years. Their debut album Moshi Moshi was recorded at a variety of Minneapolis studios including Flight Simulator, Flowers, Master Mix, and The Kill Room with Ryan producing. John Fields mixed and Greg Reierson mastered the album. Moshi Moshi is available on 12” blue vinyl LP, CD, digital download, and streaming services through Chicago’s Pravda Records. Ryan is a workaholic multi-instrumentalist who has been playing lead guitar in Soul Asylum since 2016. Pony is a flamboyant performer and artist raised by deaf parents. Together they have made numerous albums and toured internationally leading The Melismatics. On Moshi Moshi they fuse Dream-Pop, post-Punk, Brit-rock, EDM, and good ol' fashioned Rock ‘n’ Roll into a sound all their own; irony, weirdness, and melody are at its heart. Peter Anderson (The Ocean Blue, Run Westy Run, The Honeydogs) adds his killer drum skills to the mix.Ryan Smith and Pony (AKA Kathie Hixon-Smith) first met touring the U.S. in a minivan as indie-rocker Mark Mallman’s back-up band. Both Ryan’s newly launched group The Melismatics and Pony’s band Hundred Flowers started making waves in the Minneapolis scene. Before long, they joined creative forces and Pony became co-front person in The Melismatics. The Melismatics went on to release seven studio albums and several singles, play Lollapalooza, have their music used in numerous TV shows, tour internationally, and build a devoted fanbase. They also shared the stage with the likes of MGMT, The Von Bondies, Joan Jett, Plain White Tees, Shiny Toy Guns, The Jayhawks, and Soul Asylum. After the Melismatics released their most recent album Rising Tide in 2013, the group started to slow down their rigorous touring schedule. With this break in the action, the idea for a new project took shape and Ryan and Pony began working on new material. The first track to come into fruition was “First Night,” a weirdly relevant song about rebirth. The duo continued recording songs for their debut album and playing local shows…Then Soul Asylum called. Ryan joined the legendary alternative rock group as their new lead guitarist and in 2016 and became very busy touring and recording. Soul Asylum released a new album in 2020, Hurry Up And Wait which quickly became their third highest charting album to date. After that album was in the can, Ryan was able to focus on putting the finishing touches on “Moshi Moshi” and finally turning it in to Pravda – now here it comes! We want to hear from you! The builders of the Titanic were so sure they’d crafted an unsinkable ship that—in addition to bragging about it all over the media, they opted not to include enough lifeboats to rescue all the passengers in the event of a problem. We all know how that worked out. In Greek mythology, Icarus needed to get off the island of Crete—so he crafted wings out of feathers and wax so he could fly himself on out of there. His dad tried to tell him—Icarus, don’t try to fly too high with those things. You’re not a god—you’ll fall flat on your face. But Icarus didn’t want to hear that, and when he flew a scoach too close to the sun, the wax melted and…well, we know the rest of the story. We could give you lots of other examples from history and literature: Dr. Frankenstein, who was so proud of himself that he’d figured out how to reanimate human tissue that he never stopped to think about whether this was a good idea in the first place. General Custer, and his unwinnable fight at Little Big Horn. What do all these folks have in common? HUBRIS. That tempting little tendency to feel like we’re better than everybody else and the rules don’t apply to us. For some people, hubris just pops up in an occasional moment of weakness. But for others, this kind of arrogance is the organizing principle of their lives. We’re about to learn the story of one of these people.Sources:The Devil's Cinema by Steve Lillibuenhttps://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/twitchell-found-guilty-of-1st-degree-murder-1.998969CBS's, "48 Hours Mystery," Episode "Screenplay for Murder"NBC's "Dateline," Episode "Deadly House of Cards""SK Confessions" manuscript: https://www.scribd.com/doc/202712564/51755869-WARNING-GRAPHIC-Alleged-Diary-From-Twitchell-s-Computerhttp://www.stevelillebuen.com/crime-and-justice/the-question-of-mark-twitchell-dexter-killer/Follow us, campers!Patreon (join to get all episodes ad-free and at least a day early, an extra episode a month, a free sticker and more!): https://patreon.com/TrueCrimeCampfireFacebook: True Crime CampfireInstagram: https://gramha.net/profile/truecrimecampfire/19093397079Twitter: @TCCampfire https://twitter.com/TCCampfireEmail: truecrimecampfirepod@gmail.com
In part 1, we introduced you to Mark Twitchell. Aspiring filmmaker—though he’s stealing from his own production company and making up outrageous lies to lure investors…New husband and father—though he’s cheating on his wife and showing little interest in fatherhood…And Dexter wannabe. As Twitchell got more and more engrossed in “Dexter” and started researching psychopathy, an “epiphany” began to take shape in his mind. He believed in fate. He believed he was an instrument of it. And now, he felt he knew what fate had in store for him. He would become a serial killer. He was about to move from the realm of fantasy where he’d spent most of his life up til now, to the cold, dark reality of murder. He was making plans. And a whole lot of lives were about to change forever. Join us now for part 2 of this bizarre story.Sources:The Devil's Cinema by Steve Lillibuenhttps://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/twitchell-found-guilty-of-1st-degree-murder-1.998969CBS's, "48 Hours Mystery," Episode "Screenplay for Murder"NBC's "Dateline," Episode "Deadly House of Cards""SK Confessions" manuscript: https://www.scribd.com/doc/202712564/51755869-WARNING-GRAPHIC-Alleged-Diary-From-Twitchell-s-Computerhttp://www.stevelillebuen.com/crime-and-justice/the-question-of-mark-twitchell-dexter-killer/Follow us, campers!Patreon (join to get all episodes ad-free and at least a day early, an extra episode a month, a free sticker and more!): https://patreon.com/TrueCrimeCampfireFacebook: True Crime CampfireInstagram: https://gramha.net/profile/truecrimecampfire/19093397079Twitter: @TCCampfire https://twitter.com/TCCampfireEmail: truecrimecampfirepod@gmail.com

Episode 38: Maybe a Kill Room.. by Life's Not Fair
This episode kicks off with some Peanut M&M's being consumed. Hopefully it isn't to distracting from the stories, if it is please email at downhillfastpodcast@gmail.com (really any questions, comments, or feedback would be welcomed). Rheannon shares an update from the kill room, which to be clear involves a dog chewing on things and not actual murder. Tamara shares how she wishes she could be put in charge of naming things, but more specifically groups of animals. There has to be a better name than murder of crows. Another update on how snow is continuing to ruin the party. All these stories and more will surely go downhill fast.
Saturday Night Live writer and hilarious comedian, Anna Drezen, takes a break from 30 Rock to stop by the studio and talk to us about the amazing con-artist, Clark Rockefeller. aka Christopher Chichester. aka Christian Gerhartsreiter. aka Chip Smith. This guy has had so many names. And tinted glasses, and the audacity to give David Berkowitz’s social security number on a job application! (He’s the Son of Sam.) The balls! Anna, go put this in one of your skits for SNL. Anyway, we’ve got 17 aliases, 3 hilarious comedians, and 3 dogs in the More Banana podcast studio today. (Our producer, Cait, calls it Kill Room Studios. Should we be concerned? If we go missing, check the Kill Room!) One of the common themes we see with all of these scammers is that they have a crazy amount of gusto and confidence and people just bow down to that without verifying stuff. Indeed, a scammer is also referred to as a con artist, or con-man, which is short for “confidence man.” The deeper we get into these scams, the more we realize this to be true! It’s crazy that every subject of our podcast, every person we focus on, is super, super super confident. That’s what it takes to be a good trickster, we guess! Clark Rockefeller was so confident that he deserved to live in that lady’s house in California that he killed her kids and buried them in the backyard! Call it delusional, call it crazy, but he was, over everything else, absolutely certain that no one else would call him out on his bullshit. And that’s exactly how he got hired on Wall Street, too. He just walked down to the Financial District with a sharp jawline and a fake name and the Son of Sam’s social security number and knew that no one would question him! It’s wild. As a woman, it’s much tougher to have that kind of confidence. We’re taught to second guess ourselves, and that something isn’t happening, even when it is. That’s what gaslighting is. When you call someone out on something and they’re like, “I’m not crazy, you’re crazy and here’s why!” Oh! We forgot to tell you this. We tweeted it from our account (@scamwowpodcast), but maybe you missed it because it seems like people don’t use Twitter anymore. Anyway, the New York Post reported over the weekend that Louis C.K. gave Sarma Melngailis an STD! Can you believe?! There were some emails leaked between the two of them and, MAN, were they gaslighty! Louis C.K. was like, “I never told you I was clean. No one is truly clean in this day and age.” Which is SOME BULLSHIT because, um, YES, you absolutely CAN be clean. All you have to is get a test and it will tell you and then get your ailments treated. Oh, in case you don’t recall, Sarma is the former vegan chef and owner of One Lucky Duck and Pure Food and Wine who was sort of brainwashed (we think) into giving all her money to a random guy and her businesses eventually folded and she ended up in a hotel room eating pizza. It was wild. We have an episode on it. Anyway, things are a trash fire. Hope you enjoy the podcast! Our Patreon, social media channels, and more! Robert Moreno, an American citizen living in South America, is shot in the Bahamas by a sniper. The killing was commissioned by the U.S. government, who received a tip-off that Moreno was planning a terrorist attack on a U.S. oil company headquarters. But this intelligence was fatally incorrect: anti-American Moreno ordered a protest at the oil company, not an attack. Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs are drafted in to investigate. While Sachs traces Moreno’s steps in New York, Rhyme travels to the scene of the crime in Nassau, where he finds himself on a dangerous path trailed by the sniper himself. As details of the case start to emerge, the pair discover that not all is what it seemed. Can they achieve justice and escape with their lives intact?
