1/14/26 - We'll tell the remarkable story of Venerable Fulton J. Sheen, tracing his journey from a brilliant Midwestern seminarian to one of the most recognizable Catholic voices of the 20th century, and now a man on the brink of beatification. We look at Sheen's years as a professor and preacher, his groundbreaking radio work on The Catholic Hour, and his Emmy-winning television program Life Is Worth Living, which drew millions of viewers each week with nothing more than a chalkboard, sharp wit, and unapologetic Catholic truth. We'll also explore his deep interior life, including his lifelong commitment to daily Eucharistic Holy Hours, his service as a bishop and auxiliary to Cardinal Spellman, and the suffering he endured in fidelity to the Church. Finally, we'll look at the key moments in his cause for sainthood, including the recognized miracle attributed to his intercession and the recent news renewing anticipation for his long-awaited beatification, explaining why Catholics around the world continually turn to Fulton Sheen today as a model of courage, clarity, and joyful evangelization in confusing times.

We kick things off with Lucy's trip to Oregon vs. Ohio State which was one of the best experiences of her work life and one of the best games of an incredible College Football weekend. Greg and Stu discuss the game that Greg claims to have watched every snap of, but Chris is stuck on the way Greg pronounces Oregon. Then, Caleb Williams showed up and showed out in London, and Stugotz believe he may be inching ahead of Jayden Daniels in the rookie QB rankings. Also, what does the Caleb Williams experience tell the crew about Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins? Plus, it's time for Stugotz's Weekend Observations. Learn more about your ad choices. It's weird how scandalous it sounds, that life is worth living, sharing, and multiplying. But these are ways we're inclined to be, to behave, and to desire as human beings. So saith Aristotle, Aquinas, and me, your friendly neighborhood podcaster.(Joseph did mis-speak-- it's in question 94, article 2, not question 86, of first part of the second part of the Summa: https://www.newadvent.org/summa/2094.htm#:~:text=Thirdly%2C%20there%20is%20in%20man,law%3B%20for%20instance%2C%20to%20shun)Joseph unpacks these inclinations a bit, and hopefully conveys the main point that YOUR life is worth living, sharing, and multiplying. For the Catholic husbands, find time to chat with Joseph here: https://bookme.name/ouroutpost/45-minutes-with-josephhttps://bookme.name/ouroutpost/45-minutes-with-joseph As always, check out our work, and join our email list, at https://ouroutpost.org/send us an email at hello@ouroutpost.organd please rate, review, and share!

A drive to reduce suicide mortality rates is a key indicator of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Psychiatrist Shekhar Saxena, who led the World Health Organization's mental health and substance abuse program after working in clinical practice for more than two decades, says that although progress is being made, a worryingly high number of young people are choosing to end their lives.“They have to struggle through the school education, competitive examinations, then they have to struggle for a job,” says Saxena, who now teaches at Harvard Chan School of Public Health, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. “And many young people decide that dying is easier than struggling through for many years, which is very sad. It reflects the society that we live in where a young person does not feel that life is worth living.”In the third episode How to Save Humanity in 17 Goals podcast series, Saxena welcomes the inclusion of mental health in SDG 3 and its aim to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. But he points out that countries on average spend less than 2% of their health budget on mental health, when the disease burden is around 10%. Each episode in the series features researchers whose work addresses one or more the targets. The first six episodes are produced in partnership with Nature Food, and introduced by Juliana Gil, its chief editor. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Prof. Mohammed Ghaly (Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar) Genetic testing is one of the ground-breaking advancements brought forth by the field of genetics, which have revolutionized biomedical sciences. This revolutionary potential has led these technological breakthroughs to become a major target for ethical reflection within both religious and secular moral traditions. From the 1990s onwards, Muslim religious scholars and biomedical scientists, with the help of transnational Islamic institutions, have been engaging in interdisciplinary deliberations on the ethical implications of genetic technologies, including genetic testing. This presentation will focus on the ethical inquiries arising from three main types of genetic testing: premarital testing, preimplantation testing, and prenatal testing. By critically examining and analysing these deliberations, the presentation aims to explore the multifaceted and interrelated aspects of genetic testing in the Islamic bioethical discourse. It will illustrate how these deliberations provide answers to the question of when (human) life begins while also revealing an underlying perception of what embryonic life actually means and when it would have sufficient moral worth to be protected.
In a culture where personal freedom is valued, we might expect individuals to feel emotionally free and fulfilled. But Robin Mubarik discovered when he moved to Lithuania that most young people he met were struggling with loneliness, trauma, and suicidal thoughts. Robin founded Gausus Gyvenimas (in English: "Abundant Life") to strengthen ties with young adults in Lithuania to fight back against suicide and abuse. Robin Mubarik had a background of nursing in Pakistan, but left to study theology in Lithuania, where he discovered a new vision for ministry. He welcomes volunteers, giving, and collaboration with those who are interested in moving the needle on mental health in Eastern Europe. This episode is Part 1 of a conversation with Robin. Tune in later this fall to hear the rest of the conversation, where Robin will share his research about mental health for ministry leaders, including cross-cultural and trauma-informed considerations.
