You're probably doing at least of couple of these things and never considered the negative impact that they could be having on your life.   Avoid these habits that can rob you of happiness:   Unnecessary spending. One of the greatest stressors in life is financial issues. Happiness is harder to find when you're up to your eyeballs in debt. General financial pressure is one of the greatest causes of misery and divorce. Clutter is another barrier to happiness. When you spend too much, you have too much stuff. It's always in the way and serves as a constant reminder that you spent more than you should have. Think about the reward you gain by spending and find a less destructive way to accomplish the same thing. If you want to make happiness a real possibility in your life, keep your spending under control. Postponing your life. We're always waiting for something to happen before taking action. Whether it's waiting for the first of the month to start a diet, or waiting for the kids to leave the home before starting an online business, we always have an excuse to wait. There will never be a perfect time to take that big step. Manage your circumstances as well as possible and get started today. Time is the one thing none of us can ever get back. Blaming others for your challenges. When you blame others, you lose control. It's not easy to accept responsibility for all of the unpleasant things in your life, but what other choice do you have? No one else is going to fix it for you. Even if you've been used and abused, you are still responsible for dealing with the aftermath. Accept the challenge and move forward. Not staying grounded in the present. Most people have a bad habit of dwelling on past mistakes and tragedies and worrying about the future. The past is over, so leave it there. Good choices today eliminate most future challenges. Focus on making the most of today, and the future will take care of itself. Pay attention to your thoughts for an entire day. Notice how much time you spend thinking about the past or the future. Think about how that impacts your effectiveness and your happiness. Holding a grudge. If someone has wronged you, you might be making a good decision by not trusting that person again. However, holding on to the animosity is pointless. You just make yourself unhappy and less effective. Once it's over, learn what you can from it and forge ahead. Focusing on challenges instead of solutions. It's easy to feel overwhelmed if you focus on the unpleasant things in your life. Rather than do that, spend your time, energy, and focus on finding a way to make things better. You'll feel better and be much more successful.   It's easier to be happy if you stop doing the things that prevent happiness. We all pick up some bad habits along the way. The important thing is to recognize them and eliminate them.   Allow yourself to be happy by letting go of your anti-happiness habits. You'll find that happiness isn't as challenging to achieve as you thought.

Show Notes     5 Keys to Managing Your Unhelpful Thoughts   It never seems to fail. You're trying to concentrate on your work, but your mind wanders off to a completely unrelated topic. Or, maybe you're about to go on a first date, but all you can think about is how horrible your last few dates have been. These are examples of unhelpful thoughts.   Unhelpful thoughts can be distractions or be destructive. Neither is helpful.   Your mind is a terrible thing to waste, and if you can't manage your thoughts, you're not using your mind to your advantage. Imagine how powerful you would become if you could ignore or replace your negative thoughts! You could accomplish more and get greater enjoyment from your life.   Use these strategies to manage thoughts that don't support you:   Maintain space between yourself and your thoughts. It's important to remember that you don't have to engage with your thoughts. You don't focus on every person, tree, and car you pass when you're driving down the road. Most of these things pass through your awareness without you pursuing them further. You can do the same thing with your unhelpful thoughts. Allow them to simply pass on by. Your thoughts are simply something that you experience. You are not your thoughts. If something doesn't serve a purpose in your life, ignore it. What is the point in dwelling on it? Understand that it is your brain's nature to produce random thoughts. The thoughts you experience say little about you. It's the nature of your brain to produce thoughts. It's always going to give you something to think about. Occasionally those thoughts are useful. Frequently, they're frivolous. Sometimes, your thoughts can be quite disturbing. Understand them for what they are and then move on. Meditation is a helpful tool for understanding the nature of your mind. The first thing you notice when you attempt to meditate is the random and restless nature of your mind. Focus on your breathing. When you find yourself fuming about your boss, wondering what happened to your high school friends, or making a mental grocery list, simply redirect your attention back to your breathing. You can focus your attention on a thought of your choosing. You can think about anything you choose to think about. You can think about riding a flying bicycle, eating a lemon, or what you need to accomplish today. When you're experiencing an unhelpful thought, you can decide to think about something more useful. Recognize that you have the power to direct your thinking as you see fit. Apply logic. Poor thinking leads to poor decision making. When your thoughts are leading you astray, put your logical mind to good use. Ask yourself what a sensible person would do in this situation. What is a logical, intelligent decision for your circumstances? What would you advise a friend to do? Are negative or distracting thoughts getting in your way on a regular basis? You're not alone. The human brain loves to stay active and will wander from one idea to another if you fail to take control of it.   The key is to focus your attention on what you intend and avoid getting too involved with your random thoughts. Just allow them to pass.   If you've never meditated before, this can be an excellent way to learn how your mind works and how to deal with random, intrusive thoughts. Most importantly, remember that you are not your thoughts. There's no reason to take them personally.

Show Notes   Do You Really Want to Change?   Believe it or not, it is not only possible, but quite common for someone to consciously convince themselves that they want change in their life, but subconsciously put all their effort into keeping everything exactly the same as it is right now.   They even go through all the motions of starting a new project, enlist help, buying software, having a website built, creating all kinds of marketing text and tools, only to consistently find some insurmountable challenge when it gets close to a start date that prevents them from following through.   Why would anyone do that?   Fear   Fear is the prime reason that most people don't follow through.   Fear of what? Fear of success Fear of failure Fear of what others might think, say, or do Or all of the above   They are unhappy, unmotivated, and unfulfilled. They know exactly what they need to do, but never manage to get it done. They are often solitary individuals who have lots of friends and contacts, but, in reality, they live their life almost entirely in their own heads.   This vicious circle of starting and then stopping, over and over again, can cause them to have low confidence, low self-esteem, anxiety, and depression, which reinforces their overwhelming desire to keep everything the same, no matter how good a new future might look.   Does this scenario describe you? If so, what can you do about it?   Is There a Solution?   One of the best ways to break this pattern is to help someone less fortunate than yourself. Perhaps try charitable work or something similar, where people depend on your help, energy, and support, and you know it.   In this charitable work, consider how you have responsibility to others where you cannot possibly let down those who depend on you. That way, you are not working for your own personal rewards, but for someone who cannot possibly fulfil their ambitions on their own.   The feeling you get from helping others is so strong, so compelling, that your personal anxiety diminishes and your self-esteem rises in direct proportion to each other.   You'll enjoy strong feelings of accomplishment and, in turn, fulfilment. You'll find yourself in a place of happiness that you've never experienced before, and you really like it.   Make a Decision and Take Action   Through practical experience, you'll come to realize that when you make a decision and take action, you move forward. You'll recognize that you only have one life, and you can live it best and most fully by making decisions and taking action.   You'll also acknowledge that doing things for someone else allows you to fully engage your talents in a way that you could never have experienced while just working for yourself.   When you find purpose in all that you do, you will also realize that the fear evaporated long ago, and now you can actually feel a sense of pride in your work that was never there before.   Through helping others, you'll come to understand that it doesn't even matter if you make a wrong decision or take a wrong action. You can always make another decision and take another action and correct it.   The most important thing is that you keep making decisions and taking action. It's the only way to effect change in anything.   The biggest changes will be the ones you experience yourself, but it may still take others to point them out. You are so talented, and you have no idea how gifted you really are, until you see other peoples' lives improved because of your actions.   That's when you'll get to see your true, authentic self show up in your smile as you look forward to finally being able to start creating the future you desire.

It's easy to see that some children are seemingly born with great social confidence, while others are not. Social confidence seems to come and go for most adults.   A serious lack of social confidence can lead to isolation and stifle career growth. If there's one part of your life in which it pays to be confident, it's in your social interactions.   Use these strategies to increase your social confidence and feel comfortable in all social situations:   Every person that crosses your path is a practice partner for your social skills. The more practice you get, the better you'll become at interacting with others. The better you become, the more confident you'll feel. There are all kinds of things you can practice: Eye contact Small talk Non-verbal communication Telling jokes And more Imagine yourself being successful socially. Before you head into a social situation, rehearse in your mind. See yourself being confident and competent. Imagine others responding to you in a positive way. In time, you'll learn to feel the same way out in the real world. Adopt an effective attitude. It's not a matter of life and death. No one is judging you or spending any of their time thinking about you. In fact, they're probably wondering what you're thinking about them. Interacting with people in a social context should be fun and pleasant. Have a reasonable perspective on the situation. Focus on self-development. When you feel better about yourself, you'll be more socially confident. Whether that means getting in shape, learning a new skill, or meditation, any enhancements you make will leave you feeling more confident. Learn about communication. Pick one area, such as nonverbal communication, and become an expert. Then, get out and practice. When you've mastered that, pick a new area to learn about. The more you know, the better you'll become. That leads to real confidence. Avoid the need to be perfect. You don't have to be perfect. You don't have to be the funniest person at the party. You don't have to be the most charming person in the bar. Perfection is an unreasonable goal that leads to anxiety and a lack of confidence. Join a social group. You know a group of people that hang out together. It might be at work. It might be a friend that has a separate group of friends. See if you can join, too. Finding the right group of people can boost your social confidence. Perhaps you already have a group of friends. Spend more time with them. Or, you might form your own group and become the social director! Combine social events with activities you're good at. Are you a great softball player? Join a softball league. Are you an expert at riding a motorcycle? Join a motorcycle club. Find an activity you excel at and turn it into a social activity. Make a list of everything you do better than the average person. Now, find a way to do that in a group setting. You might join a band, a chess club, or a group that square dances on the weekend.   Think about how much your life would change if you were more socially confident. How would it impact your career? How would your social life be affected?   It's hard to think of any potential downside to having greater social confidence. If you weren't lucky enough to be born with perpetual confidence, you'll want to grow and nurture this important attribute.

We'd all like to feel less cluttered and more peaceful and relaxed.   Decluttering your mind is largely the result of decluttering all aspects of your life.   We tend to put too many burdens on our minds, but there's a more effective way to live. With a few simple hacks, you can reduce the load on your mind and give it the peace it craves.   Add serenity to your life with these techniques:   Remove the challenging people from your life. There are people that take up a lot of space in your brain. Some of those people are optional in your life, and you might not even like them! Why are you keeping them around? Be willing to let go of the people that take more time and effort than they're worth to you. Remove unnecessary activities from your life. This could be committees you serve on, sports teams you play on, or going out on Thursday nights. Maybe you're taking accordion lessons but realize that you're not enjoying it that much. Cut these activities out of your life and gain the gift of time. Declutter your environment. Your mind and inner peace are affected by your environment. This includes your home, workspace, and anywhere else you spend a significant amount of time. Have you ever noticed how nice it feels when your home is clean? You can feel that way all of the time. Meditation might be the ultimate way to declutter your mind and enjoy inner peace. Meditation is very simple but challenging to do well. However, it's possible to receive many benefits from meditation even if you're a beginner. There are many resources online that can teach you the basics of meditation. Twenty minutes of meditation each day can change your life and bring inner peace. Write things down. Trying to remember things puts a huge load on your mind. You can never truly relax when you have to remember to do something. Write things down and use alarms. Knowing that something else will keep track of your obligations for you will allow your mind to relax. Mono-task. Forget about multitasking. It's ineffective and creates stress. Limit yourself to one task at a time. You'll feel better and get much more accomplished. Try it for a day. Do one task at a time and focus all of your attention on that task. Notice how much better you feel while working and at the end of the day. Make fewer decisions. The fewer decisions you have to make each day, the more inner peace you'll feel. For example, limiting your wardrobe makes it easier to figure out what to wear each day. Even better, pick out your outfit for the following day before you go to bed. You can eat the same healthy breakfast each morning. Look for ways to minimize the number of decisions you have to make. Get enough sleep. Notice how cluttered your mind feels after a poor night of sleep. Experiment to determine the proper amount of sleep your mind and body need each night. Limit your exposure to the news and social media. The news and social media will drive you crazy if you spend too much time consuming them. It's important to stay aware of what's happening in the world, but you don't have to bombard yourself with negative information day and night.   Treat your mind like you would an injured body part. You would reduce the amount of work it has to do and treat it gently. Most of us ask our minds to do more than it was designed to do. Give your mind a break and gain the peace you crave!

We're not talking about someone that's a straight-A student and goes on to make $250,000 per year. We're talking about people that win gold medals, become billionaires, or impact the entire world in some way.   These ultra-successful people are all unique, but they share many of the same habits.   Mimic these habits of successful people and become more successful yourself:   Get up early. The vast majority of the most successful people in the world get up very early. They make great use of this time, too. They have a morning routine that often includes exercise and meditation or prayer. Try getting up an hour earlier and have a plan for using this time effectively. Do this for 30 days and evaluate the results. Practice self-discipline. Success requires work. High levels of success require doing work that most people aren't willing to do. It takes self-discipline to do difficult things day after day. Work on your self-discipline each day. You have countless opportunities to do this. If you need to lose weight, throw out 25% of your lunch each day. When you feel like taking a break, force yourself to work for another 15 minutes. Become action oriented. People with mediocre levels of success often like to plan, but they struggle to actually take any sort of action. Successful people take intelligent action. They are the masters of getting things done. They're also great at getting started on new projects. Read daily. Reading saves years. Without reading, you're forced to figure out a lot by yourself. A book written by a competent author is like a mentor. The world is full of experts. Why try to do it all yourself? Stand on the shoulders of the world's all-time greats. Buy a good book and use the information in it. Life is too short not to take advantage of the expertise of others. Remember that it's not enough to read and understand the information. You must apply it. Get clear on your goals. Ultra-successful people know exactly what they want. The average person does not. You can't make progress toward a goal if you're not aware of your goal. Decide what you want. Make a list and be precise. Say, “No” to practically everything. Highly successful people avoid distractions much better than the average person. Many of us say “Yes” to almost every opportunity. Successful people say “No” almost all the time. Decline offers that don't assist you in the pursuit of your goals. Everything you do either brings you closer to, or takes you further from, your goals. Before agreeing to something, ask yourself, “How does this impact the pursuit of my goals?”. The most successful people have a tenacity that most of us fail to demonstrate. We give up far too easily. Set goals that truly excite you. That will encourage you to continue when the going gets tough. Practice persevering when you want to quit. Learn how to grind and get things done. Perseverance is a combination of faith and pushing through discomfort.   Your habits largely influence how successful you'll become. Effective habits result in great results. Poor habits lead to undesirable results. One of the most effective ways to take your life to the next level is to create habits that support your goals.   The most successful people in the world have the best habits for success. Pick up a couple of these habits and integrate them into your life. You'll be glad you did!

What happened to the days of running wild and not having to worry about anything? Even as we've gotten older, it's still fun to remember the good old days and the simplicity of life.   But truth be told, you can still have that feeling. With some daily effort, your life can be balanced between joy and simplicity.   What most people don't realize is that their daily stressful lives are stressful because of themselves. They've booked themselves solid, ran themselves ragged, and planned too many “to-dos” to keep up.   Even though this might be you, you don't have to accept it as your fate.   You can easily change your daily path and get back to the basic simplicities of life with just a few small changes.   Why spend your days catering to others when you can find your own joy first? Stop the madness of running yourself ragged and do yourself a favor.   Slow down and savor every single moment with these strategies:   Stop putting yourself on the backburner. Do you spend your time doing things for others and not doing anything for yourself? For just a few moments per day, do what you need to do for you. Smile at yourself in the mirror, tell yourself that you matter, and start off your day with your thoughts and feelings in mind. Slow down and smell the roses. This means physically and mentally. It's important to avoid rushing through your day and missing out on all the little moments in life. The moment that you stop rushing and start appreciating, you'll begin to notice all the things that you've missed throughout the day. There are so many great things that you're missing out on. Read a book just for fun. Sometimes being an adult means that you have to read books and articles that you just don't want to read. Instead, head to the local library and pick out a stack of books or magazines that you actually want to read. When you have a book in hand that you're crazy about, reading becomes a whole new world. Expand your family with a puppy. Having a puppy is a great way to have a loving animal greet you daily and make you feel as though everything you do is perfect. Plus, puppies give some of the best snuggles and kisses, too. If dogs are not your favorite, having a different pet can also bring many moments of simple joy to your life. Allow yourself to say no. When you spend all day saying yes to others, it leaves nothing in your reserves left over for you. The time is now to start saying no and supporting your own needs. Your family and friends will get over this change and will actually more than likely understand.   Finding joy doesn't have to take a ton of effort or time. You can easily make your life a better place with just a few simple changes.   Start by understanding what you're missing in your life and then start factoring in the things that you need and want from there. Once you get a good grasp on it, you're going to find self-love and happiness easily.   Allow yourself to fall in love with the idea that life is simple and wonderful. Your life holds so much joy if you let yourself see it.

You haven't even given many of these beliefs a lot of thought.   For example, you probably have similar religious beliefs as your parents. Did you ever sit down and think about which religion best suits you? Or did you just continue with what you were exposed to as a child?   You don't have to be a slave to your old beliefs!   Try these techniques to maintain only beliefs that support you:   Your previous beliefs and knowledge can prevent you from gaining new knowledge. If you think you know something already, you won't be open to new views. Knowledge is great, but when it gets in the way of learning something new, it's poison. Ask more questions. Be curious. Avoid believing that you already know the answer because of your previous experience. You can learn while you listen. You can't learn while you're speaking. Ask questions and then be quiet and listen to the answer. Pretend that you're a beginner. For example, imagine that you make a living as a real estate investor. When a novice investor starts telling you about his latest deal, you probably don't believe there's anything you can learn from him. Pretend that you know absolutely nothing about a topic. Be open to everything you hear. Even if you're a leading authority on something, there are still things you don't know. If you pretend that you're a mere novice, you'll have a better chance of gaining that knowledge that eludes you. Determine if your beliefs are truths, or merely just beliefs. Beliefs are personal, often unprovable, and often no more correct than another belief. Truths don't require constant validation. For example, gravity is a truth. Where did your belief come from? If you believe that women are better than men, how did you decide that? Or, if you believe that you're not capable of managing money, where did this belief come from? What is the source of your belief? Many of our beliefs come from our parents. Most of us didn't have parents that were Rhodes Scholars. Question the origin of your beliefs and determine if that idea is worth a second look. Let go of your identity. Our identities are largely built around our beliefs. We might believe: “I'm an overweight person.” “I'm not intelligent.” “I'm the most intelligent person I know.” “I'm liberal.” “I'm someone that can't learn math.” “I'm lazy.” “I'm a school teacher. That's what I am.” We take our beliefs, good or bad, and associate with them. If you believe that you're naturally overweight, it makes it challenging to lose weight. If you associate with being bad at math, you make it harder to learn math. It's hard to achieve or believe something outside of your identity. What is the cost of your beliefs? Some beliefs come with a heavy price. Look at your beliefs and consider the impact they are having on you. Since beliefs are personal and alterable, think about which of your beliefs are making your life more challenging. When a belief doesn't serve you, you'll be more interested in letting go of it.   We're all slaves to our beliefs. Unfortunately, many of our beliefs are unhealthy and unhelpful. Beliefs can be very limiting. Face the world with an open mind, and you'll have an easier time of finding your truth.   Avoid allowing your old beliefs to control you. Be the master of your life, not a slave to your beliefs.

There are a lot of opinions on the topic. Some people believe it's entirely possible. Others insist that you can't even some close.   Like many things in life, the most reasonable answer is, “It depends.” You can certainly have a lot if you're willing to make enough of a sacrifice.   Consider these aspects:   Decide what having it all means to you. Everyone says they want to “have it all,” but what does that mean to you? Make a list of everything that you would have to have and experience in your life on a regular basis to be 100% satisfied with your life. Take all the time you need. Keep these categories in mind: Relationships Health and physical goals Possessions Hobbies Career Community   Notice the items that are under your control and those that are not. Review your list. Divide your list into two columns: Those things you can control and those you cannot. You can't control your spouse's level of patience, tolerance, or their waistline. You can't control every aspect of your children. You don't have complete control over your career.   You'll quickly find there's not a lot that you can control in your life beyond your focus, effort, and attitude. Worrying about other things is an exercise in futility.   You can't have everything. Time, money, and energy are limitations. Consider the items below: Committed spouse Active community members Committed parent Excellent friend Great employee Great boss Mentor Perfect neighbor Big house Luxury car And the list goes on   Just reading this list can be enough to start an ulcer. How well could you accomplish all of those things and still enjoy your life?   With your idea of having it all, will you still be relaxed and happy? A simple life leads to higher levels of satisfaction and happiness. The more complicated your life, the less satisfied you're likely to feel over the long term. Life is about priorities. You can't have everything, but you can have a lot. The more you want, the more it's going to cost you. The more you want, the more complicated your life will become. The more complicated it is, the more scattered your energy and focus become. What are your priorities in life? Based on those priorities, re-answer the first item on this list. The more things you ultimately want in your life, the lower your performance level will have to be in one or more areas.   “Can I have it all?” is an ambiguous question. Can you have it all if having it all means having a spouse, children, a home, a pleasant career, and a circle of friends? Sure. Can you have it all if you want to perform at the highest possible level in multiple categories in your life? Doubtful.   Having it all is limited by your definition of having it all.   There's only so much time in a day. There's a limit to how much anyone can do. Look at the most successful people in the world. Some other aspect of their life is usually a complete mess. It's almost a universal truth. Excelling at one area requires making a sacrifice in others. It's up to you to determine how much you're willing to sacrifice.   So, you can have it all, provided that what you want is reasonable, and you're committed.   THANK YOU again for reading, for your support, and for being part of this adventure with me. We just seem to find ourselves doing the same things each day, day after day.   It doesn't matter if the behaviors are harmful, make zero sense, or take us further from our goals. It also doesn't matter if the behaviors we want to do are good for our health, bank account, or the future. We can't seem to get ourselves to do the positive behaviors regularly.   However, changing your behavior is the key to changing your life!   Want to change your behavior? The winning recipe includes these 6 ingredients:   A clear objective. For example, it's insufficient to tell yourself that you want to eat less. What does that mean? How many calories is that? What is the breakdown of macronutrients? How often are you going to eat? It's important to be specific. A few examples include: Eat fewer than 2,000 calories per day. Drink at least 8 glasses of water each day. Eat whole fruits, such as apples, bananas, oranges, or berries for snacks. You can't create a new behavior with a single effort. You haven't quit smoking because you refused your urge one time. You don't go to the gym regularly just because you've gone one time. Repeating a behavior over and over is necessary if you're going to make a lasting change. The less time you've put in, the more likely you are to have a relapse and return to your old behavioral patterns. Immediate rewards. New behaviors only last if there's a reward for doing it, or a significant, immediate punishment for not doing it. Take your favorite unhealthy food as an example. You might love ice cream. There's an immediate reward for eating ice cream. There is a punishment, but it's more of the long-term variety. You're not going to destroy your figure in a day by eating a bowl of ice cream. Consider most positive behaviors, such as going to the gym. The majority of the benefits only happen in the future. Avoiding the gym is actually rewarding in the short term, but harmful in the long-term. That's why so many bad habits are hard to break, and good habits are hard to create. Work out a more immediate reward you can give yourself for changing your behavior. Avoid this step at your own peril. Willpower is in short supply. Starting small. Avoid starting with the objective of going to the gym for an hour each day or meditating for 90 minutes straight. These are fine objectives but start slowly. Begin by meditating for 10 minutes, or just showing up at the gym and doing whatever is enjoyable to you.   Tracking progress. See how many days you can perform your new behavior in a row. Keep track of your results - all the pounds you lose, dollars you save, pages you read, or minutes you meditate, for example. Be sure to also track the benefits you notice as a result of changing your behavior. There will be plenty of bumps in the road. It's imperative to stay the course for as long as it takes. Regardless of how many setbacks you endure along the way, you simply must keep trying. How could you possibly fail in the long-term if you never gave up?   It can be challenging to change your behavior. Unfortunately, many negative behaviors are enjoyable in the short term, and many positive behaviors are only positive in the long term. This makes it difficult to stop engaging in negative behaviors and difficult to create positive behaviors.   Define your desired behavior, give yourself rewards, and do your best each day. Success will be yours!

But most people don't have a good understanding of how to achieve goals. Consequently, most never even set goals.   Understanding what it takes to achieve a goal will greatly enhance your odds of success.   Consider these ideas:   A proper goal. Most people don't have goals to begin with. Those that do have goals often have goals that are ineffective. You can't achieve a goal without having a goal. Avoid setting goals that don't excite you. What's the point? It's easier to achieve a goal that you find motivating. A clear conclusion. How will you know when you've achieved your goal? Be specific and have a way of measuring your progress. A deadline. Goals never seem to be accomplished without a deadline attached. You can keep waiting for “tomorrow” to get started if you don't have a deadline to meet. Then, that “tomorrow” never comes. Goals are more likely to be achieved if you regularly visualize yourself being successful. Imagine what it will be like when you meet your goal. The inability to picture the achievement of your goal suggests that you don't believe you can do it. Affirm that you're the type of person that can achieve your goal. Think of the attributes you need to have to be successful. Write several affirmations that support those attributes and use them daily. Recite them to yourself at least three times each day, preferably aloud. The right information. Imagine you have a goal of playing a difficult piece of music on the piano, but you believe the best way to do that is to do 1,000 push-ups each day. You might have a great goal and be super motivated, but you don't have a clue how to achieve your goal. You need the right knowledge. There's a great appeal to the idea of making your wishes known to the universe and then just relaxing until some mystical force delivers what you want. However, action is also necessary to bring about a real change. Figure out what you need to do and do it. The ability to deal with discomfort. Pursuing any significant goal will create discomfort. There's no way around it. It's necessary to learn how to minimize that discomfort as much as possible and be able to deal with whatever remains. Discomfort can come in many forms. It might be the fear of failure. It might be some actual failure. It could be the discomfort of making cold calls and dealing with rejection. It might be the discomfort of learning something you've never done before. Perhaps giving up your favorite distractions so you have time to work on your goal creates discomfort. Whatever your reason for discomfort in pursuing your goal, it's important to discover ways you can overcome it. Goals can take time. Big goals take more time. Add in a little failure and a little discomfort, and suddenly quitting can be appealing. You can't achieve a goal if you quit before it's accomplished. Perseverance is one of the most important traits anyone can possess.   There are many things you can do to make achieving your goals more likely. All of the items in this list are useful characteristics and tactics for a wide variety of life situations. Whether you're trying to follow a diet or make a million dollars, these items are helpful.   Include these seven things and your results will be greatly enhanced and come more quickly.

Present moment thinking has been the concentration of eastern religions for thousands of years.  Religion And Philosophy Some people are tempted to turn away immediately when Eastern philosophy is brought up just because they think it might threaten their core religious beliefs. There are no religious impositions though; the present moment is available to everyone in every moment no matter who you are. In fact, most religions, in one way or another, agree with the belief of living in the moment, not in the past or future. Eastern Religions And The Present Moment There are many different divisions of religion in the East, just like the West. Many of them differ with certain beliefs and philosophies, but many agree on the importance of the present moment. In recent decades, the West has been picking up on these ancient philosophies and many people use these lessons to help cope with modern problems. It works and it proves that the human condition has always been the same. The Present Moment Defined The present moment can be defined as your attention being solely on what you're doing right now. It's when you're not thinking of "other things." If you're washing the dishes, your mind is fully aware when you start the faucet, grip the sponge, and wipe the plates clean. There are no other thoughts in your mind other than what it is you're doing in the moment. While staying in the present moment may seem boring at times, you've probably already felt its true power without really knowing it. Have you ever been outside enjoying nature and a feeling of peace flooded over you? Have you ever stared up at the sky and stars and contemplated the meaning behind them? The past and future wash away, and the only thing that's important in that moment is the "now." Staying in the Present Moment The process of staying in the present moment may take some practice. If you try for any length of time to stay fully present, your mind will likely try to bring you out of it. This is because thoughts about the past and future are constantly creeping up. This can be a source of frustration, but you must fight the urge to judge yourself since that negative emotion would defeat the purpose.  Be aware that your mind will reach for the past and future; yet be ready to let go of those thoughts when they come up. The more you practice remaining present, the easier it'll become. Practicing Meditation Meditation is an art that's not only reserved for Eastern religions. It's a method of bringing yourself into the present that's available to you at all times.  Here are some tips to follow when beginning meditation: Choose a time of day when you can relax and be alone. Sit in a position that gives you good posture. Concentrate on your breathing. Take deep breaths in and out and focus only on your breath. Try to meditate for at least 30 minutes each day. Fight the urge to fall asleep. You'll find that you get better at meditation with practice. Don't give up on yourself! Every session may not feel as good as the last, but it's important to stick with it. Meditation will enable you to get to know your mind and body better. You'll maintain awareness for when your mind is in an agitated state, and you'll be able to place better focus on fixing your problems and moving toward your goals. All in all, developing a present moment mindset can bring you more peace and fulfillment in your life. Isn't that worth a little practice?

No one wants to take any responsibility for their failures either. The only person that will ever take responsibility for your life as an adult is you.   If you don't take responsibility for your life, you won't be happy with the outcome. If you leave your life up to luck and the generosity of others, the universe is likely to beat you down. An enjoyable life doesn't happen by accident.   You must take responsibility for your outcomes, good or bad. You must take responsibility for your past and your future, good or bad.   Learn how to take control of your life today and steer it in the direction that you want to go!   You can develop responsibility for your life with these activities:   Avoid blaming others. Were your parents good parents? Maybe not. What parenting school did they attend? Is your boss a jerk? Maybe. There are lots of things in life that aren't your fault but are still your responsibility to manage. No one else is going to do it for you. If you're honest with yourself, your life would be infinitely better if you could just go back in time and make one or two different decisions. Learn from your mistakes. Your mistakes are yours. Learning from them is another way to take responsibility from your life. Learning from them enables you to prevent similar occurrences from happening in the future. Set goals. Setting goals is taking responsibility for your future. You're choosing the life you want to live and experience. Setting goals also implies that you're going to work toward them. Schedule your time. How you choose to spend your time each day is the most important decision you can make that day. How you choose to spend your time determines your future. Take responsibility for your life by choosing to utilize your time wisely. Manage your thoughts. Your thoughts impact your actions. If you want to take responsibility for your life, it's necessary to manage your thoughts. You can think about whatever you'd like to think about. Your brain also produces random thoughts, but you have the power to ignore them or to pay attention to them. Take all the blame. The most effective way to live is to take all the responsibility. Maybe your ex was an evil person, but you did allow that person into your life. Whatever is going wrong in your life, take responsibility for it. If you're responsible for the challenges you face, you can do something about them. On the other hand, if you think that they're totally someone else's doing and there's nothing that you can do about them, you're giving up your control and any possibility of resolving them. Accept the idea that no one is coming to save you. You're not a child anymore. No one is going to care about your life more than you do. You can't wait for someone to save you. Acknowledge your flaws. You have plenty of flaws, and that's okay. Everyone has flaws. Failing to recognize them only leads to failure and frustration. Fix your flaws if you can. Otherwise, avoid any course of action that will result in your flaws working against you. Acknowledge your strengths. It's just as important to realize your strengths and use them to your advantage. Milk your strengths for all they're worth!   As an adult, no one is ever going to care about your life more than you do. It's a big responsibility, but there's no one else to do it. Having a great life is up to you!   Be willing to take responsibility for your successes, failures, flaws, and strengths. Be responsible for your outcomes. Learn from your mistakes. Your life is in your hands.

Yet, it's easy to believe based on his character.   The story has also been useful for generations of parents as an example of taking accountability. As a child, you may have learned that it's more honorable to own up to your actions rather than blame others or make excuses about why it's the tree's fault.   On the other hand, holding ourselves responsible can feel risky. Admitting our faults may threaten our self-image and open us up to criticism from others. It may seem safer to focus on external circumstances instead of looking at our own actions.   The truth is that you could be missing out on more happiness and success by trying to evade responsibility.   Learn more about the importance of developing personal accountability.   Benefits of Accountability:   Build confidence. True self-esteem requires having the courage to take an honest look at yourself. Accept your weaknesses and missteps, as well as your strengths and accomplishments. Make positive changes. Taking responsibility puts you in control of your life. You can learn and grow. You'll show yourself that you're capable of adapting to change and handling the consequences of your actions. You can take action to resolve negative circumstances. Strengthen your relationships. Earn trust by living up to your commitments. You'll deepen your connection with family, friends, and coworkers. Reduce stress. In the long run, facing the truth usually creates less anxiety than trying to cover it up. Being responsible allows you to enjoy greater peace of mind.   Tips for Taking Accountability:   Evaluate your performance. Make it a habit to assess your role in any situation. While external events do matter, focusing on what you can control is more productive. Monitor yourself. Pay attention to your behavior even when there are no other witnesses around. Assume equal responsibility for successes and setbacks. Set realistic goals. Do you sometimes excuse your conduct because you're trying to juggle too many activities? Respect your limits and shorten your to do list. Creating priorities will help you to accomplish more. Listen carefully. It's difficult to hear what others are saying when you're on the defensive. Listen with an open mind, so you can understand their position even if you disagree. Apologize skillfully. Express regret promptly and sincerely when you let someone down. If possible, try to make amends and avoid repeating your slip ups. Consider others. If you need another reason to work on accountability, think about your impact on others. Remember how you feel when a business or a loved one harms you and refuses to take responsibility.   Tips for Fostering Accountability:   Communicate clearly. Encouraging a more accountable culture makes it easier to assume responsibility. Start by clarifying your expectations and the consequences for not meeting them. Ensure that you understand what others expect of you as well. Be forgiving. Help others to be truthful. Respond with mercy rather than anger. You're bound to need a second chance sometime too. Exchange constructive feedback. Talk with others about how to make progress moving forward. Share specific observations, praise, and criticism. Be grateful for any insights they give you. Provide a role model. By assuming more accountability, you can automatically have a positive impact on others. You'll be teaching your children an important life lesson and contributing to a healthier workplace and society.   Accountability is a skill that grows stronger with practice. Take charge of your life by assuming responsibility for your actions. You'll empower yourself to build the future you really want.

Are you less than happy with your current state of affairs? Perhaps your goals are too small. Have you ever considered that maybe you could be and do much more than you're currently demonstrating?   Thinking big is your ticket to a new life!   Consider these ideas:   Avoid contentment. Have you ever noticed that when your life takes a dip below what you consider acceptable, you'll work like crazy to restore the normal balance of your life? For example, you'll do plenty to replace your lost salary if you lose your job. However, you won't work nearly as hard to double your salary. Avoiding contentment isn't the same as being constantly dissatisfied. That wouldn't be an enjoyable way to live. However, if you want to achieve something more, it's important that you strive to be more. Big goals are exciting. Going camping at the state park for the 10th year in a row is fine, but odds are you won't be that excited about doing it again. Your first trip to Rome might be another story. Few things feel better than excitement and anticipation. Big goals can provide you with both. If your goals aren't exciting to you, try aiming a little higher. Big goals require real change and growth. Dropping five pounds or earning an extra $500 this year require little change and growth on your part. Losing 60 pounds or tripling your salary will force you to make some major changes. If you want to become all you can be, you don't have to join the military. You can just set and achieve big goals. Thinking big reduces the number of distractions in your life. If you have something big that you're trying to accomplish, you don't have time to worry about the little stuff. You become more focused and mentally relaxed. Having a significant objective in your life makes life simpler, and in many ways, easier. Thinking big expands your world. Thinking big forces you to identify your strengths and weaknesses. It forces you to do things you're not comfortable doing. Your world expands when you become comfortable with things that used to make you feel uncomfortable. Big thinking can also expand your belief of what is possible. You can challenge limits. You need to view the world in a new way to accomplish big objectives. Imagine the change of thinking required to develop the first airplane or to run a sub 4-minute mile. Your goals might not be as grand, but your thinking will have to evolve in some way. You'll view common challenges in life as much smaller. When you're trying to make your first billion dollars, a leaky faucet seems like small potatoes. When your plan for the evening is to watch Seinfeld reruns, a leaky faucet can make you think, “I just can't catch a break.”   Thinking big does a lot for your enthusiasm, creativity, and ultimately your confidence.   It can also do wonders for your social life. Imagine telling a date that you're working on a plan to dig water wells in Africa. That's a little more intriguing than talking about the 240-game you bowled last weekend.   Thinking big is claiming your right to have an exciting and meaningful life. You can do whatever you set your mind to. You just need to set a big goal and persevere. Raise your thinking and your life experience will follow.

Or maybe you'd like to climb Mount Everest. However, if you were instantly teleported to the top of Everest, you wouldn't be as happy or fulfilled as if you actually climbed it. Our goals are more than just things we want to have or achieve. There's much more to it.   You might think that you'd like to have a magic genie at your disposal. But it would be a lot less enjoyable than you think.   There's more than meets the eye when it comes to your goals!   Consider these ideas:   If you could have everything you want just magically appear, would you find that satisfying? If you're like most people, you have a long list of things you'd like to see, do, and have. Imagine you could just suddenly snap your fingers and be wealthy, play the piano, see Paris, lose 30 pounds, have a successful business, be married to the person of your dreams, and have three kids. Imagine that and ask yourself how that would feel. If what you really want is to simply have all those things, you'd jump at that deal. However, you probably aren't that excited when it's presented this way. The process of achieving something might be more important to you. Growing a business, finding your perfect romantic partner, and figuring out how to become wealthy are part of the journey. Things don't mean as much if you don't have to work for them. How do you feel the day after completing a goal? Think about a big goal you've achieved. It might be landing a particular job, graduating from school, or seeing Hawaii. How did you feel shortly after it was over? Soon after your great success, you probably felt surprisingly blah about the whole matter. Why do you think this is? Is it the struggle that matters to you? Maybe the struggle is what appeals to you. Maybe it's not winning, but putting in the time, sweat, and tears that makes it all worthwhile. Maybe it's the thrill of overcoming a challenge. You certainly don't experience that when you don't have to work for something. Is it the personal growth that makes achieving goals satisfying? Is having a successful business exciting? Or is it learning new skills, developing the perfect sales pitch, and becoming a new and improved version of yourself? To achieve a big goal, you must grow and develop yourself. Is this what really appeals to you? Struggling leads to learning. If a new car is just handed to you, you lost an opportunity to learn how to earn, save, and invest your money. When you face challenges, you're forced to learn. Either you study, or you make mistakes and corrections. Both are forms of learning. Think about all the things you've achieved. Now, imagine all of those things had just been handed to you. How does that make you feel? Would you still be the same person if you'd lost 50 pounds by waving a magic wand versus changing your diet and working hard at the gym?   We get more from achieving goals than just the end result.   Our goals are a way to struggle and grow. Goals provided a sense of accomplishment when they require work and effort to achieve. Self-confidence and self-esteem grow as well when goals are set and accomplished.   Having something handed to you is nice but delivers much less meaning. So, avoid wishing for good luck. Instead, wish to be stronger and more determined. Although achieving it is fantastic, the goal itself isn't really the point!
