In this insightful and informative episode of the pregnantish podcast, first airing in honor of National Infertility Awareness Week '25, we're joined by Dr. Karen Tang, a board-certified gynecologist and minimally invasive gynecologic surgeon and the author of "It's Not Hysteria: Everything You Need to Know About Your Reproductive Health (but Were Never Told)" From media stories to medical discussions, fertility and infertility is full of misconceptions! This episode delves into how and why we should shift the conversation from fear-based, negative messaging about reproductive health to one that's positive, empowering, and focused on achieving the reproductive goals people desire. This episode's Midroll features Dr. Lucky Sekhon, Board Certified OBGYN & Fertility Doctor who practices at RMA of NY, the episode sponsor, to tackle some of the more common myths and why sexual and reproductive health education needs a major overhaul. Both doctors in this conversation have used their platforms, including on social networks like Instagram and TikTok, to educate audiences and tackle misinformation. After all, in a recent pregnantish survey of over 800 people, we learned that social media is the #1 way people today access fertility information and education. With 1 in 6 facing infertility and 1 in 4 navigating pregnancy loss today, there's nothing niche about this topic. This episode is a celebration of breaking down barriers, busting myths and encouraging people to take control of their fertility so they can best advocate for their health. Thank you to episode sponsor RMA of New York, a global leader in reproductive medicine who is partnered with US Fertility and its network of premier reproductive medicine practices. In this deeply personal and educational episode, we take you inside our IVF journey while answering 5 of the most important questions anyone considering in vitro fertilization should know. From hormone injections to embryo biopsies, we're pulling back the curtain on the full process—emotionally, physically, and financially. We discuss: What are the real IVF success rates—and how much does age matter? We break down the data and share our own experience with genetic testing (PGTA), embryo freezing, and what happened after retrieval. What actually impacts IVF success? We explain the role of lifestyle, egg quality, embryo development, and how medications like Gonal-F and Menopur work to stimulate the ovaries—and the importance of avoiding ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). How much does IVF cost? We talk real numbers, from medication to procedures, and tips on what insurance may or may not cover. How many IVF cycles might you need? We give a realistic view of how many rounds most people go through, why it often takes multiple cycles, and what we learned during the waiting game for PGTA results. What are the risks and side effects of IVF? We highlight potential complications, like multiple pregnancies, miscarriage risk, and the physical/emotional toll of injections, birth control phases, progesterone oil, and cycle timing. We also cover how to choose the right fertility clinic using SART reports and share trusted medical voices to follow, including Dr. Lucky Sekhon, a leading fertility expert who provides evidence-based insights on social media. Whether you're just starting to explore IVF or are already in the thick of it, this episode offers honest insights, key medical facts, and encouragement for every step of the journey. Hey friends! Welcome to Girls' Night! Today's episode is deeply personal for me as we dive into the topic of IVF and infertility treatments. My husband and I shared our IVF journey on Girls Night episode 94, but with recent misinformation circulating online surrounding this topic, I've invited a trusted expert to help us figure out what information is actually true and what just isn't. That expert is my new friend, Dr. Lucky Sekhon. Dr. Lucky is a double board-certified reproductive endocrinologist, infertility specialist, and OB/GYN based in New York City. Dr. Sekhon is passionate about empowering women with accurate, evidence-based information on reproductive health and fertility. She has personally gone through IVF, which has deepened her understanding of the challenges her patients face. In our conversation, Dr. Lucky explains what IVF is and, maybe equally as important, what it's not. We also discuss other fertility treatment options like egg freezing, IUI, and more! Whether you're currently facing a fertility issue or, like me, have been diagnosed with infertility, OR whether you're wanting to know your options when it comes to having a family in the future — I hope this conversation will ease your mind by helping you know the facts and what options are available for you and your family. Medical professionals have a duty to educate their patients and help them learn how to advocate for themselves and a great platform to do so is social media! Today on Fertility Forward we welcome Dr. Lucky Sekhon back to discuss her experience as a reproductive health influencer. Tuning in, you'll hear all about what inspired Dr. Sekhon to become an influencer, how she leverages pop culture to educate her audience, the kind of content she produces, how she balances it with her job and family, and so much more! We then delve into the importance of empowering our patients to advocate for themselves before she tells us how we can separate valid and trustworthy medical advice on social media from nonsense. Finally, Dr. Sekhon shares her goals and why she is grateful that her amazing presence on social media came out of the dark times of the pandemic. Thanks for listening in!
PCOS is one of the most common and most misunderstood conditions that we treat as reproductive endocrinologists, and this week I'm delighted to be joined on the podcast by Dr. Lucky Sekhon of RMA of New York to talk all about it. PCOS stands for polycystic ovary syndrome, and that name can lead to some confusion. A lot of people think that they probably have cysts in their ovaries. The truth is that all women have multiple cysts (which are really small follicles that house eggs) in their ovaries. Those with PCOS have follicles that look like what we call a "string of pearls" on the periphery of their ovaries, and often have irregular (or no) cycles. Do you have a diagnosis of "unexplained infertility" and want to get to the bottom of what's going on? Click here to join Dr. Aimee for The IVF Class. The next live class call is on Monday, July 15, 2024 at 4pm PST, where Dr. Aimee will explain IVF and The TUSHY Method, and there will be time to ask her your questions live on Zoom. Dr. Aimee Eyvazzadeh is one of America's most well known fertility doctors. Her success rate at baby-making is what gives future parents hope when all hope is lost. She pioneered the TUSHY Method and BALLS Method to decrease your time to pregnancy. Learn more about the TUSHY Method and find a wealth of fertility resources at www.draimee.org. How will the recent Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe Vs Wade impact the infertility community and those who face complicated pregnancies?According to the guests on the pregnantish podcast, Dr. Krishna Upadhya, VP of Quality Care and Health Equity at Planned Parenthood Federation of America, reproductive specialists Dr. Serena Chen and Dr. Lucky Sekhon, and fertility advocate, Davina Fankhauser, the future implications of assigning 'personhood' status to embryos will create less access to necessary fertility treatments, more vulnerability for doctors and patients, and worse and potentially dangerous outcomes for those who have pregnancies that require medical attention. This episode and conversation was recorded in front of a live studio audience of fertility advocates in New York City in the fall of 2022, and is supported by Doctors For Fertility, a non-profit whose mission is to educate and advocate for IVF and reproductive care. It was a few days after the overturn of Roe v. Wade when a doctor in Louisiana prescribed a medication to make the insertion of an IUD, a form of birth control, less painful for a patient. The medication has several uses. One of them is to act as the second part of a two-drug protocol used to terminate a pregnancy. The pharmacy called the prescribing physician to ask if the prescription was for an abortion. When she told them it was for an IUD insertion, the pharmacist still refused to give out the medication, leaving the patient without the medication for her procedure. This is one of the ways Roe's overturn has already impacted access to other kinds of reproductive care. We worry this will not only continue but get worse. Today we are going to dig into the new landscape of reproductive healthcare in a post-Roe world by talking with two physicians who have dedicated their lives to helping people who can get pregnant navigate their vast pool of healthcare needs. From deciding how to prevent pregnancy and how to manage harmful periods to how to recover from a miscarriage and how to deal with infertility, these doctors know better than most, and certainly better than the Supreme Court, that the full spectrum of reproductive care is of vital importance to the lives of millions of Americans. Joining us today are Dr. Colleen Denny, the Medical Director of Women's Health Services at Bellevue Hospital in NYC and an Assistant Clinical Professor at the NYU School of Medicine who provides OB-GYN care that includes abortion, and Dr. Lucky Sekhon, a double board-certified OB-GYN and Reproductive Endocrinologist & Infertility Specialist at RMA of New York, a fertility clinic. She is an assistant clinical professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. To donate to support our fight against the attack on reproductive autonomy and all the attacks that follow. On this episode of the pod, Amanda Weinstein, Jasmine Clark, and Rachel Vindman talk about how the fall of Roe v Wade could have some unexpected consequences for women seeking fertility treatments. They're joined by Autumn Lucy, a woman in Michigan who took a part-time job at Starbucks just because their insurance covers IVF treatments. Autumn discusses her fertility journey, just how expensive IVF is, and why it was so important to share her story with the world. Like the hosts, Autumn also has serious concerns about what the fall of Roe v Wade might mean for women who are pursuing fertility treatments. After that, Amanda sits down with Dr. Lucky Sekhon, an OB-GYN and fertility specialist. On Instagram and on her blog The Lucky Egg, she empowers women with evidenced-based information about their fertility. Dr. Lucky talks about why she's passionate about helping women with their fertility and how she sees abortion and fertility care as equally important facets of helping women choose when and how to have a family. She also dishes about some of misconceptions and weird fertility advice she's heard. And finally, Amanda, Jasmine and Rachel raise a glass to Alex's birthday, new puppies, and seeing each other in person last weekend in this episode's “Toast to Joy.”If you're ready to join the Great Troublemaker Turnout, please sign up here!
The month of September is PCOS Awareness Month and, in today's episode, we are joined by Dr. Lucky Sekhon, OBGYN and fertility specialist based in New York City, to discuss polycystic ovarian syndrome and her unconventional approach to the disorder. We also dive a little deeper into the emotional impact of PCOS and the loss of control that patients often feel when diagnosed during their fertility journey, with Dr. Sekhon emphasizing the importance of reframing it as an ‘alternate state of being' rather than a disease. We also share our expertise in nutrition, mental health, and physical health, weighing in on the roles that whole foods, perspective, and exercise play in the treatment and management of this confusing and complex alternative state of being. Tune in today to learn more!
The COVID-19 vaccine is raising a lot of questions and anxiety, but it is particularly pertinent to those with a special interest in fertility. On today's episode, we talk to Dr. Lucky Sekhon, OBGYN and fertility specialist based in New York City. We kick off our discussion by acknowledging that pregnant women are a vulnerable population when it comes to COVID before discussing the misinformation crisis that has emerged and some of the myths surrounding pregnancy and fertility. Dr. Sekhon gives us an overview of the three vaccine options available and shares what studies have shown about vaccination during pregnancy: that more than not having a negative impact on pregnancy and fertility, the vaccine will have a positive, protective impact on pregnant women. She touches on some of the risks involved in contracting COVID during your pregnancy and draws us to the disturbing statistic that less than 20 percent of pregnant women are vaccinated in the US. Dr. Sekhon recognizes a parallel in terms of hesitance with the HPV vaccine in relation to fertility and highlights the importance of trusting public health experts, even though politicization makes this harder. In summary, her advice for pregnant women is that, the sooner you get vaccinated, the better. We hope you join us to hear all this and more today.

We had the great fortune of speaking with Dr. Lucky Sekhon, a reproductive endocrinologist, infertility specialist, and a board-certified OBGYN about the mind-body connection in women's health. She has particular expertise in fertility preservation (egg freezing), LGBTQ family building, and in-vitro fertilization. She is passionate about educating women about their reproductive health and family-building options. We had a truly illuminating conversation about: charting the path for fertility and our biological timelines; the impact of stress and trauma (including miscarriages) on our bodies; holistic health (like acupuncture) co-merging with Western medicine and of course, the woo of syncing our periods with the Moon. Whether you're ready to start a family now, know you want one in the future, or just simply are curious about your hormonal health and wellness, this ones for you.
