The Balanced Bodies Blueprint

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 14, 2025 42:16

In this deeply personal and educational episode, we take you inside our IVF journey while answering 5 of the most important questions anyone considering in vitro fertilization should know. From hormone injections to embryo biopsies, we're pulling back the curtain on the full process—emotionally, physically, and financially. We discuss: What are the real IVF success rates—and how much does age matter? We break down the data and share our own experience with genetic testing (PGTA), embryo freezing, and what happened after retrieval. What actually impacts IVF success? We explain the role of lifestyle, egg quality, embryo development, and how medications like Gonal-F and Menopur work to stimulate the ovaries—and the importance of avoiding ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). How much does IVF cost? We talk real numbers, from medication to procedures, and tips on what insurance may or may not cover. How many IVF cycles might you need? We give a realistic view of how many rounds most people go through, why it often takes multiple cycles, and what we learned during the waiting game for PGTA results. What are the risks and side effects of IVF? We highlight potential complications, like multiple pregnancies, miscarriage risk, and the physical/emotional toll of injections, birth control phases, progesterone oil, and cycle timing. We also cover how to choose the right fertility clinic using SART reports and share trusted medical voices to follow, including Dr. Lucky Sekhon, a leading fertility expert who provides evidence-based insights on social media. Whether you're just starting to explore IVF or are already in the thick of it, this episode offers honest insights, key medical facts, and encouragement for every step of the journey. Dairy farmers have several options when designing and implementing beef-on-dairy programs. One approach is breeding dairy cows to beef sires, producing crossbred calves that enter the beef value chain. However, an increasing number of dairies are choosing HerdFlex beef embryos, which result in full-beef calves. Evaluating embryo quality is crucial for dairy farmers when considering beef-on-dairy options. Understanding the processes involved with these embryos is essential, and we provide comprehensive information to address any questions you may have. Here is a breakdown of the episode: 1:50: The Impact of Embryos and In Vitro Fertilization on Dairy Breeding3:28: Debunking the Myth: “An embryo is an embryo”6:57: Quality Control and Simplot Animal Sciences8:56: Why Embryo Quality Matters for Dairies10:49: Practical Insights from Your Own Herds14:54: Final Thoughts & Advice for Dairies Considering HerdFlex Embryos16:14: Where to Learn More This episode is sponsored by Simplot Animal Sciences. Embryo quality is the foundation of a successful embryo transfer program. By prioritizing high-quality embryos, dairy farmers can achieve higher conception rates and healthier, stronger calves for a more profitable and sustainable dairy operation.

In this episode of Uncommon Sense with Ginny Robinson, we're breaking down Trump's recent speech to Congress—what he said, what it means, and where we need to see action. I loved everything he said, but as always, words are only half the battle. We need real action, especially when it comes to issues like releasing the Epstein list, addressing RFK Jr.'s recent (shockingly) pro-vaccine articles, and ensuring America First means exactly that—not mass deportations followed by importing Indian slave labor to drive down our wages. Let's not cancel out the success of deporting illegals like that.We also need a firm stand against AI-generated mRNA vaccines, no more IVF, and a more cautious approach when it comes to Elon Musk—because while he's done some great things, blind trust is never the answer. Trump's message was strong, and it resonated, but we need to make sure his policies and actions match up with his words. Send us a textCould free IVF really become a reality? But what does this order actually do—and just as importantly, what does it not do?In this episode, we break it all down:✅ What the executive order includes—and whether it could lead to insurance mandates or federal funding for IVF.✅ How Congress once blocked federal funds for IVF and later reversed the policy for veterans.✅ What this means for military families, veterans, and federal employees—and whether TRICARE or VA benefits will expand.✅ The impact on private insurance—could this order eventually push insurance companies to cover IVF for more people?✅ What happens next? The executive order gives a 90-day deadline for recommendations—so what changes could be coming? If you're struggling with infertility, thinking about IVF, or just curious about how politics and fertility treatment intersect, this episode will give you a clear, no-nonsense breakdown of what this order means for your fertility journey.

We discuss Trump's recent executive order Expanding Access to In Vitro Fertilization, unpacking why it raises serious concerns for the well-being of children born through this technology. We talk about the evils of commercial surrogacy, and Katy sheds light on the deep, primal wound inflicted on infants when separated from the only mother they've ever known and placed in the arms of a stranger. We also explore a shocking case in Georgia, where a woman is suing an IVF clinic after giving birth to someone else's child after the clinic implanted the wrong embryo. It's Friday, November 1, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus How you can bless displaced Christians in Nigeria Open Doors reports that Muslim jihadists are resorting to displacement, violence, kidnapping and murder against our Christian brothers and sisters in sub-Saharan Africa. Right now, there are more than 16.2 million displaced Christians in the region—many of them forced to flee because of their faith in Jesus. Nigerian Pastor Barnabas, who was forced to leave his home, is blunt about the reality. He said, “It is not easy to live in an Internally Displaced Persons camp. If not for God's intervention, if not for God's love, I wouldn't be where I am today.” The partners of Open Doors are on the ground in Nigeria and were able to get emergency aid to the camp where Pastor Barnabas lives. But there are so many more people, like Pastor Barnabas, who need help. When you give $37 through Open Doors, you give vital support to a displaced believer in sub-Saharan Africa, providing food, clothing and shelter. Check out a special link in our transcript today at www.TheWorldview.com. Proverbs 11:25 says, “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” Madison Square Garden comedian insulted Puerto Ricans at Trump event At Donald Trump's 3-hour-long Madison Square Garden campaign rally on Sunday, which attracted 20,000 people, a no-name comedian, Tony Hinchcliffe, delivered an inexcusable joke at the expense of Puerto Ricans. HINCHCLIFFE: “There's literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. Yeah. I think it's called Puerto Rico.” Sean Hannity asked Trump for his response on Fox News. TRUMP: “Somebody said there was a comedian that joked about Puerto Rico or something. I have no idea who he is, never saw him, never heard of him. What they've done is taken somebody that has nothing to do with the party, has nothing to do with us, and they try and make a big deal. I've done more for Puerto Rico than any president.” Biden calls Trump supporters “garbage” President Joe Biden reacted to the comedian's remarks. BIDEN: “Donald Trump has no character. He only cares about the billionaire friends he has and accumulated wealth for those at the top. Now, he says immigrants are poisoning the blood of our country. Give me a break. He wants to do away with the birthright citizenship. And just the other day, a speaker at his rally called Puerto Rico ‘a floating island of garbage.' “Well, let me tell you something. They're good, decent, honorable people. The only garbage I see floating out there is [Trump's] supporters.” Trump to Biden: 250 million Americans are not “garbage” At a campaign rally on Wednesday in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Trump reacted to Biden's remarks. TRUMP: “I have to begin by saying 250 million Americans are not garbage. (cheers) This week, Kamala has been comparing her political opponents to the most evil mass murderers in history. And now, speaking on a call for her campaign last night, Crooked Joe Biden finally said what he and Kamala really think of our supporters. He called them garbage. No way, (boos) no way. “My response to Joe and Kamala is very simple: you can't lead America if you don't love Americans. That's true.” (cheers) And Trump rejected the demonization of his supporters. TRUMP: “For the past nine years, Kamala and her party have called us racist, bigots, fascists, deplorables, irredeemables, Nazis. And they called me Hitler. (boos) They bullied you.  They've demonized us. They've censored us. They've de-platformed us. And they weaponized the power of our own government against all of us.” Possible political fallout with Hispanic voters Regarding the potential Election Day fallout to the outrageous comment about Puerto Rico by the no-name comedian, Luke Winkie, a columnist for Slate, said it well. “There's a strong chance that the whole election once again could come down to Pennsylvania, which also happens to be home to one of the highest populations of Puerto Ricans in the United States, comprising about 8 percent of the state's residents.” Prior to the Madison Square Garden controversy, Pew Research documented that 57% of Hispanic voters supported Kamala Harris and 39% supported Donald Trump, which is demonstrably higher than previous GOP presidential candidates. The question is whether he will be able to woo them back before next Tuesday. Selfish couple demands surrogate abort their baby Marty and Melinda Rangers prioritized their busy careers and shunned having children. According to The Daily Mail, after the married couple made a small fortune in the real estate business, they retired early, moved to the Caribbean, and hired a doctor to create their children in a petri dish.  The doctor, who was paid $30,000, transferred several of the couple's embryos at an In Vitro Fertilization clinic into the rented womb of a surrogate who was paid $65,000. The contract included a prohibition on drugs and alcohol and a ban on leaving the country for the duration of the pregnancy or the state during the third trimester. Three-and-a-half months into the pregnancy, Melinda found on social media that the young woman they had rented had allegedly consumed alcohol. The woman assured them that it was not a shot of alcohol in the photo, but water.  However, Marty said, “After much deliberation, we decided the best thing to do would be to terminate our baby at 20 weeks.” Tragically, the selfish married couple demanded that the young woman, their surrogate, procure a late-term abortion for “breach of contract,” and she did, reports LifeSiteNews.com.  Psalm 127:3 says, "Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.” Stranded astronauts returned to Earth last Friday And finally, the astronauts who were stranded aboard the International Space Station for 8 months splashed down in the Gulf of Mexico at 3:29 a.m. Eastern on Friday, October 25th off the coast of Pensacola, Florida, reports GoodNewsNetwork.org. In August, when Boeing's Starliner space capsule scheduled to pick them up had to return to the Earth empty for malfunctions and safety concerns, there must have been a small measure of concern. NASA's SpaceX Crew-8 mission includes Matthew Dominick, Michael Barratt, Jeanette Epps, and Alexander Grebenkin. During their mission, crew members traveled nearly 100 million miles and completed 3,760 orbits around Earth. They conducted new scientific research to advance human exploration beyond low Earth orbit and benefit human life on Earth. Earlier this year, the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that embryos conceived through IVF are considered children. That ruling set off a firestorm across America that led to the Alabama legislature rushing through a bill protecting the technology. Since then, Kamala Harris has erroneously claimed that President Donald Trump would ban IVF, all the while GOP Senators seek to protect the practice.   Do modern reproductive technologies align with God's divine design? Are children commodities to be cut and pasted into any/every adult relationship? Is Donald Trump's position on In Vitro Fertilization pro-life?   And what about IVG: In Vitro Gametogenesis where scientists would take body cells and turn them into sperm or eggs?   God's creation mandate is clear: "Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth." (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark 55,000 Nigerians killed between 2019 and 2023 The Observatory for Religious Freedom in Africa released a report last month on Christian persecution in Nigeria.  Violence in the country has taken the lives of over 55,000 people between 2019 and 2023. Of those, over 30,000 were civilians, including 16,769 Christians. Radical Muslim Fulani herdsmen were responsible for over half of the Christian deaths. The observatory noted, “In states where attacks occur, proportional loss to Christian communities is exceptionally high. In terms of state populations, 6.5 times as many Christians are being murdered as Muslims.” Please pray for the persecuted church in Nigeria, ranked 6th on the Open Doors' World Watch List of nations where it is most dangerous to be a Christian.  Psalm 14:4, 7 asks, “Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, who eat up My people as they eat bread, and do not call on the LORD? … Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD brings back the captivity of His people.” People looking for leaders who will champion religious freedom Pew Research released a survey finding people around the world want leaders who stand up for religious freedom. In the U.S., 64% of adults said it is important to have a leader who stands up for people who share the respondents' religious beliefs. A majority of people in most other countries surveyed said the same thing.  Countries with high levels of support for leaders sharing their religious beliefs included Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, India, and Kenya. Countries with the lowest levels of support for this included France, South Korea, Japan, Spain, and Sweden.  7,500 pro-lifers attend India's March for Life Pro-lifers in India held their 2024 National March for Life last month.  The event took place in the southern city of Thrissur and drew over 7,500 people. It was the country's largest March for Life. India legalized abortion back in 1971. Now, mothers in the country kill 15 million of their pre-born children per year.  Bishop Gerald John Mathias attended the recent march and told Life Site News, “I'm grateful to the youth, particularly the youth taking interest. It's most encouraging for the future of the Church, future of the society, future of families.”  Donald Trump champions in vitro fertilization In the United States, former President Donald Trump said he would make in-vitro fertilization (IVF) free for Americans if he is elected. Last Thursday, Trump told NBC News' Dasha Burns “it's helping women [be] able to have a baby....We need great children, beautiful children in our country.”  Here's a soundbite from that interview. TRUMP: “So, we are paying for that treatment.” BURNS: “All Americans who want it?” TRUMP: “All Americans that get it; all Americans that need it. So, we're going to be paying for that treatment, or we're going to be mandating that the insurance company pays.” However, many oppose in vitro fertilization as undermining pro-life goals. CatholicVote noted, “We are opposed to any In Vitro Fertilization mandate and will work with [Trump] and his administration to make clear that IVF puts women at risk, and destroys countless innocent living human embryos.” Only 54% of Protestant Evangelical attend church in person Lifeway Research published analysis of a 2024 report by Grey Matter Research and Infinity Concepts entitled “Church After COVID.” The report found only 54 percent of Protestant Evangelicals attend church in-person every week. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic nearly 90 percent of Evangelicals were attending semi-regularly.  Online viewing of services has increased; however, many of those engaging online are also attending in person. The study also found about a quarter of churchgoers started attending their current church since the pandemic, marking significant changes in the makeup of churches post-COVID. Hebrews 10:24-25 says, “And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” Archeological find from Biblical Jerusalem affirms Scripture And finally, the Israeli Antiquities Authority announced the discovery of a stone seal at the City of David National Park in Jerusalem. Archaeologists believe it is from the First Temple period, around 2,700 years old.  The seal bears a name inscribed in Old Hebrew script and a winged figure associated with pagan Neo-Assyrian influences. Ze'ev Orenstein with the City of David Foundation told Fox News the seal “joins the list of countless archeological discoveries in the City of David — the historic site of Biblical Jerusalem — affirming Jerusalem's Biblical heritage.”  Close And that's The Worldview on this Wednesday, September 4th, in the year of our Lord 2024. Subscribe by Amazon Music or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. It's Monday, September 2nd, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Afghan Muslims coming to faith in Christ The last time Khada saw her husband was an ordinary day – or as ordinary as any day can be in Afghanistan since the Taliban takeover in 2021, reports Open Doors. Afghan citizens face daily restrictions, oppression and danger, especially for underground Christians like Khada and her husband, Ehsan. Khada was born into a deeply religious Muslim family. She expected to follow the same path as her mother: marry the Muslim man chosen by her parents and raise a devout Muslim family herself. Her Christian boss did something very gutsy. She gave Khada a Bible. In Afghanistan, even before the Taliban takeover, it was extremely risky to give a Muslim a Bible. It's illegal to convert from Islam and very dangerous to share your Christian faith. Over the next six months, the Muslim couple read through the Bible together.  After trusting Christ as their Savior, they shared their new-found faith with relatives, many of whom also became Christians, despite the risks. Tragically, Eshan was killed by Muslim extremists for abandoning the false prophet of Mohammad. One Open Doors field worker said, “Despite hardships, believers' unwavering faith in Jesus Christ motivates them to operate covertly, spreading the good news among their fellow Afghans.” Prayerfully consider giving $4 to supply a Bible or $22 to help pay for a Christian radio broadcast into Afghanistan through a special link in our transcript today at www.TheWorldview.com. According to Open Doors, Afghanistan is the 10th most dangerous country worldwide in which to be a Christian. Pray the same prayer for our Afghan brothers and sisters in Christ as the Apostle Paul asked believers to pray for him. In Ephesians 6:19-20, he wrote, “Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the Gospel. … Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.” Kamala Harris delivered generalities in CNN interview Last Thursday night, CNN's Dana Bash sat down with Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz for her first interview in 40 days.  Kamala spoke in generalities right out of the gate. BASH: “The voters are really eager to hear what your plans are. If you are elected, what would you do on day one in the White House?” HARRIS: “There are a number of things I will tell you. First and foremost, one of my highest priorities, is to do what we can to support and strengthen the middle class. When I look at the aspirations, the goals, the ambitions of the American people, I think that people are ready for a new way forward, in a way that generations of Americans have been fueled by, by hope and by optimism. I think, sadly, in the last decade, we have had in the former president, someone who has really been pushing an agenda and an environment that is about diminishing the character and the strength of who we are as Americans, dividing our nation, and I think people are ready to turn the page on that.” BASH: “So, what would you do Day One?” HARRIS: “Day One, it's going to be about, one, implementing my plan for what I call an ‘opportunity economy.' I've already laid out a number of proposals in that regard, which include what we're going to do to bring down the cost of everyday goods, what we're going to do to invest in America's small businesses, what we're going to do to invest in families, for example, extending the child tax credit to $6,000 for families for the first year of their child's life to help them buy a car seat, to help them buy baby clothes, a crib. So, there are a number of things on Day One.” BASH: “So, you have been vice president for three and a half years. The steps that you're talking about now, why haven't you done them already?” Kamala has no regrets in describing Biden as “extraordinarily strong” CNN's Dana Bash asked Harris about her absurd and truly unbelievable defense of Biden's cognitive ability even after his June debate with Trump when Biden's mental decline was painfully obvious for all to see. BASH: “Vice President Harris, you were a very staunch defender of President Biden's capacity to serve another four years. Right after the debate, you insisted that President Biden is extraordinarily strong.  Given where we are now, do you have any regrets about what you told the American people?” HARRIS: “No, not at all.” Tim Walz confronted over lie he “served in war” CNN's Dana Bash asked Tim Walz, the Democratic Vice Presidential nominee, about his false claim that he served in war. BASH: “I want to ask you a question about how you've described your service in the National Guard. You said that you carried weapons in war, but you have never deployed actually in a war zone. A campaign official said that you misspoke. Did you?” WALZ: “Well, first of all, I'm incredibly proud. I've done 24 years of wearing uniform of this country. My record speaks for itself. But I think people are coming to you to know me. I speak like they do. I speak candidly. I wear my emotions on my sleeves. BASH: “The idea that you said that you were in war. Did you misspeak, as the campaign has said?” WALZ: “Yeah, I said we were talking about, in this case, this was after a school shooting, the idea of carrying these weapons of war. My wife, the English teacher, told me my grammar is not always correct.” J.D. Vance called Walz a liar In a separate CNN interview, Republican Vice Presidential nominee J.D. Vance called Tim Walz out for his lies. VANCE: “I've never criticized what Tim Walz did when he was in the military. I criticized his lying about his own record. This is a guy who was captured on video saying, ‘I carried a gun in war.' He never went to war. “This is a guy who's been captured on video as other people say, he's an Afghanistan veteran, he's a veteran of a war, nodding along in agreement instead of saying, ‘No, no. I did serve my country, and I did it honorably, but I never went to a war zone.' I'm not criticizing Tim Walz's service. I'm criticizing the fact that he lied about his service for political gain. Dana, I do think it's scandalous behavior.” Walz confronted over two other lies But Walz' lies did not stop with his military record. BASH: “You had to clarify that you had said that you and your wife used IVF, but it turned out you used a different kind of fertility in order to have children. And then, when you ran for Congress in 2006, your campaign repeatedly made false statements about a 1995 arrest for drunken reckless driving. What do you say to voters who aren't sure whether they can take you at your word? WALZ: “I certainly own my mistakes when I make them. I spoke about the treatments that were available to us that had those beautiful children there. That's quite a contrast in folks that are trying to take those rights away from us.” For the record, Donald Trump is not trying to curtail the availability of In Vitro Fertilization at all. Historic Gutenberg Bible published August 24, 1456 And finally, August 24th, 1456 was a unique anniversary.  That's when the second volume of the Gutenberg Bible was bound in Mainz, Germany. It completed a two-year project to create the first complete book printed with movable type.  The Gutenberg Bible was named after the inventor of the unique printing press with movable type, Johannes Gutenberg. It marked the start of the "Gutenberg Revolution" and the age of printed books in the West. Proverbs 30:5 says, “Every word of God is flawless; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Monday, September 2nd, in the year of our Lord 2024. Subscribe by Amazon Music or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. Oocytes are first collected from the ovaries of donors by ultrasound-guided follicular aspiration. They are then matured in a Petri dish and fertilized 20-24 hours later. Conventional, sexed frozen, or reverse-sorted semen may be used for fertilization. Oocytes then develop in an incubator for seven days, at which point the resulting viable embryos are transferred into recipients.  How Does In Vitro Fertilization Work In-Vitro Fertilization resembles conventional ET by allowing cows to produce multiple calves per year. This is accomplished by generating embryos from elite cows called donors and transferring them into cows with less genetic merit called recipients. After this, there are many differences in the way the procedure works.  In IVF, oocytes (unfertilized eggs) are collected using a specially designed probe, fitted with an ultrasound transducer which allows the ovary to be visualized during the aspiration procedure. The technician locates and stabilizes the ovary via rectal palpation of the reproductive tract. The aspiration probe is inserted vaginally where the transducer and ovary meet with only the vaginal wall separating the two. The probe has an attached needle guide that houses a 55cm long needle. This needle will transverse the vaginal membrane and is inserted into fluid filled follicles, containing oocytes, located on the ovary. The contents of the follicles are aspirated out and captured in a searchable filter. The filter is then taken into the lab where it is rinsed and searched using a microscope; the oocytes are then retrieved, counted, and graded.    Once the oocytes have been processed they are moved into dishes with special media designed to mature them. The dishes are placed in an incubator for 18 to 24 hours where the maturation process takes place. The following day, semen is added to the dishes containing the matured oocytes and fertilization takes place. The media and incubator are designed to mimic the cow's uterine environment as pertains to temperature, pH, etc. Following fertilization, the oocytes are left in the incubators for the next 7 days as a percentage of them develop into embryos. They can then be evaluated under a microscope and quality graded just as you would conventional ET embryos. The grade one and two embryos are now ready to be loaded into transfer straws and implanted into recipient cows that were in standing heat 7-8 days prior to the transfer date or frozen for transfer at a later date.   Potential Applications of IVF, In Vitro Fertilization Embryo production from pregnant donors — Because the cervix and uterus are not penetrated during the process of aspiration, oocytes can still be collected without disturbing the fetus. Donors can be safely aspirated from about 45-100 days of gestation. On rare occasions donors can be aspirated up to 6 months of gestation, as long as the ovaries are accessible to the technician. This application is a good alternative for operations wanting to get a jump on the next generation. In years past, breeders were forced to decide whether to risk future productivity of young donors by flushing them as virgins or just postponing embryo production until after their first calf. By getting the heifers pregnant first, they are already on their way to calving in a normal window with their counterparts. It also works well for those operations that want to keep donors on a 365-day calving interval, and can help reduce reproductive failures such as cysts in donors that remain open for long periods of time.  Production from donors that do not make embryos in ET — Various reasons can cause donors to be nonproductive in ET. Blockages, scaring, uterine infections, and un-passable cervixes are some of the more common reproductive tract abnormalities that can be overcome through IVF. Also, donors prone to overstimulation or those that produce a high percentage of unfertilized eggs, generally perform well in IVF Donors that typically fail to stimulate and ovulate little to no ova will not necessarily benefit from IVF.  Adding value to semen —With IVF, less semen is needed than in a typical AI or ET procedure because oocytes are contained in small dishes during the fertilization period. This allows for tremendous opportunities. Depending on quality, one straw of conventional semen can fertilize oocytes from as many as 15 donors. This allows breeders to maximize the effectiveness of rare or expensive semen. If sex selected pregnancies are desired the IVF system offers distinct advantages over conventional ET. Quality sexed frozen semen tends to be more effective in IVF because less sperm cells are necessary. Generally 1-2 straws are sufficient per donor, depending on how many oocytes she has produced. Semen does not have to be sexed prior to freezing in order to get sexed pregnancies. Conventionally frozen semen can be sorted for the desired sex prior to fertilization in the IVF process – this is termed reverse sorting. It should be noted that not all bulls will work after reverse sorting. Also, oocytes from high producing donors can be placed in separate dishes making it possible to use more than one sire and still be able to identify the matings of the resulting embryos.  Short interval between procedures —The IVF procedure can be repeated more often than conventional ET. Donors are routinely placed on bi-weekly schedules. During a 90 day period a donor could be aspirated up to 6 times. Within a given time frame, more total pregnancies can be created through an IVF program when compared to ET.  Other applications — Because donors do not have to be cycling in order to perform the IVF procedure, embryos can be created from cows that have not yet returned to estrus postpartum and heifers that have not reached puberty. Oocytes can also be recovered from the ovaries of slaughtered females or donors prior to a death event. Latest Cattle Industry News Colorado has largest H5N1 outbreak in US history Colorado health officials have confirmed 10 human cases of avian flu, marking the largest outbreak of human bird flu infections in U.S. history. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported 11 cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1) in humans since 2022, with 10 occurring this year. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment  announced that two poultry farms in Weld County have birds infected with H5N1, with three confirmed cases at one farm and six at another. Another human case was detected in a dairy farm worker in the state. The state's health agency said the count is up to 47 infected herds in the state. State and federal officials said the concern for the virus is still low due to the lack of person-to-person transmission.  However, the latest scientific article on H5N1 avian influenza finds that the virus, which has forced the culling of tens of millions of birds on poultry farms since January 2022, can spread with relative ease among dairy cows, domestic cats and even a raccoon. So far, no mutations have been found in the strain's genome that would allow the virus to spread more easily in humans, despite the clear transmissions between mammals. Since April 2022, public health authorities have confirmed 11 human cases from cattle and poultry farms, seven of which occurred among workers involved in a cull this summer in response to a poultry outbreak in Colorado. Those human cases showed the same virus circulating in dairy herds, which suggests that the poultry outbreak in that area was transmitted back to birds via local cows. Ag land market could be showing signs of settling According to Farmers National Company, the agricultural land market has been “nothing short of exceptional during the past five years.” Gains in value are common across all classes of land in every region of the country. Strong commodity markets, moderate interest rates, buyer demand and an overall healthy agricultural economy have also supported the growth of land values during this time. Paul Schadegg, senior vice president of real estate operations at Farmers National Company says a lot has changed in the past 12 months and even more has changed within the past five years.  He said moving into the second half of 2023 and the first half of 2024, we've experienced significant increases in interest rates, declining grain markets, and inflation. Despite these negative pressures, the land market has remained relatively resilient but shows signs of settling in general, including single-digit decreases in specific areas.” One aspect of the agricultural land market is the long-term appreciation of land value. Over the past 25 years, land values have experienced a stair-stepping trend following the ups and downs of the agricultural economy. As grain markets and farm profitability rose, the land markets followed while leveling off as markets and profitability did the same. Schadegg said each plateau has set a new value standard sustained through production, demand and profitability. Schadegg went on to say that with farm operators being the largest segment of land buyers, the biggest impact on land values moving forward will be profitability in agriculture. If profit opportunities are limited, motivation to buy will decrease and, subsequently, pressure land values into a downward trend. Finally, the third story highlights research showing that smoking accelerates cognitive decline in memory and fluency, except for smokers with otherwise healthy lifestyles, who experience similar decline rates to non-smokers.
