On the final episode of Ask Me Anything, we're talking about dealing with conflict.  It's an icky topic that even makes adults uncomfortable, but during your tween and teenage years, conflicts are incredibly common and part of life. But that doesn't make them any easier.  And Bec has some very handy tips on how to handle it all.  Ask Me Anything is the podcast for any girl in your life looking for answers. And the questions answered on today's show are:  There is a girl at school who has started hanging around my friends.  She hasn’t asked to hang out with us - she has just turned up. My friend and I find her annoying but we don’t want to be mean.  What do we do? What do you do if you don’t have a tribe at school?  One of my friends has started making fun of me (about my hair) in front of other people? I really want her to stop. School is (or at least feels like) your entire world when you’re a tween or a teen.  You spend more time at school with your classmates and teachers than with your own family so when you've got a strong group of friends the schoolyard can be an amazing place, full of possibilities.  But if you feel alone or you can't find your people it can be a harsh place.  So how do you increase your chances of finding a tribe of friends that support you and have your back when you're moving to a new school? Plus, do you have dreams of being School Captain but you're not sure whether you can make it happen or if it's just a pipe dream?  Bec shares her thoughts. And is it a problem if you don't know what you want to do when you leave school or have you got plenty of time to work that out? Ask Me Anything is the podcast for any girl in your life looking for answers. QUESTIONS ANSWERED IN TODAYS SHOW: Is it bad that I don't know what I want to be when I grow up? As the wife of Bill Shorten - who will potentially be our next Prime Minister - many have said that in this election campaign, they wished they could vote for Chloe. Chloe is a businesswoman, author, daughter of former Governor-General Quentin Bryce and mother of three. As a kid, she dreamed that she’d grow up, meet the love of her life, get married, have kids and grow old …..with that same person. But, like one in three marriages, Chloe’s life didn’t work out that way because her relationship fell apart. When Chloe Shorten separated from her husband of 10 years, she was concerned that it might affect her two young children. Then, when she remarried Opposition Leader Bill Shorten and blended her family, she got even more concerned. So, she went hunting for help. For books, for studies, for information about the best way to do everything from “the talk” when you sit your kids down to tell them their Mum and Dad aren’t going to live together anymore to introducing new partners, navigating custody and even, eventually introducing new step-siblings or new babies. She didn’t find a lot. So she made her own... Click here to subscribe to No Filter. Show Notes Your host is Mia Freedman. With thanks to special guests Chloe Shorten. Lyn Dawson was 33 years old and the mother of two little girls when she went missing in January 1982. She was married to her high school sweetheart, rugby league star turned teacher, Chris Dawson. They lived on Sydney’s Northern beaches on the same street as Chris’ twin brother Paul and his wife. But then one day, Chris moved one of his students, 16-year-old Joanne Curtis, into their family home and things were never the same. Since Lyn’s disappearance in 1982, two coroners found, in 2001 and 2003, that Lyn was murdered by her husband Chris but he has never been charged. So what happened to Lyn? "Anxiety is often something that you can't even attach to something. It's just almost an existential feeling of dread or fear." Mia Freedman is the founder and director of the Mamamia Women's Network and seems to have it all together. But here she talks openly about her personal struggle with anxiety, how she was convinced she had a non-existent cancer, and when her world came tumbling down.CREDIT Hosted by Donna Lu Produced by Jessica McGaw

You've Gotta Start Somewhere

Mia Freedman is a journalist and co-founder of the Mamamia Women's Network. Mia began her career as the work experience kid at Cleo Magazine and got her first paying job as the magazine's Beauty Editor. She left Cleo after five years and in 1996 became the youngest editor of Cosmopolitan at the ripe old age of 24. After leaving magazines, Mia had a brief stint working at the Nine Network before starting her own blog, Mamamia. That blog has now become the largest women's media company in Australia. In this episode, Mia Freedman talks about seeing the writing on the wall for the magazine industry and how that meant she was uniquely placed to create Mamamia, how she got a foot in the door at Cleo magazine, her first meeting with Lisa Wilkinson and what it's like to be in the middle of a social media sh*t storm.
