Hernán Pereyra respondió a las declaraciones del Vasco Aguierre y Matias Almeyda sobre el partido entre las selecciones de Argentina y México en Catar 2022.
Phil West and Jeremiah Bentley delve into everyone's favorite MLS enigma, the San Jose Earthquakes, with Crystal Cuadra-Cutler, President of Seismic Union, The Faultline and AO San Jose. We also talk a little Paul Arriola and Giorgio Chiellini; looks like one of them will be heading to a World Cup!
With the Matias Almeyda experiment quickly fading in the rear-view mirror the San Jose Earthquakes are playing a more mechanical but successful system under Alex Covelo. The Quakes are out of the basement but they still have a way to go if they want to find themselves in a playoff spot at the end of the season. Monterey Bay F.C. went to Kentucky to face Eastern Conference-leading Louisville City FC and earned a shocking 2-0 victory. This historic win sets the Canners up nicely for an upcoming three-game homestand at beautiful Cardinale Stadium
This week the boys are missing romperedes, but still discussed some Futbol news. Albeit late, the boys discuss the CONCACAF Champions League final and our main topic of the day: Matias Almeyda. We answer the question whether he succeeded here in the MLS or not.
The Colorado Rapids lose to the San Jose Earthquakes on the road. Gyasi Zadres and the boys in burgundy couldn't muster out a result against the San Jose Earthquakes. The Rapids were coming off a big win against the Portland Timbers and they were looking to gain momentum. Unfortunately, the pids were knocked off their feet by a valiant performance by the Earthquakes. The Quakes have been in limbo since Matias Almeyda left them, but with a heroic effort they came away with the three points at home. In this episode of the Designated Players Podcast, the guys are back to continue the series where we talk about some of the biggest headlines in MLS/USMNT in the news recently. This week we are covering the recent coach firings, the US Open Cup upsets, and the Zardes trade to the Colorado Rapids. We start things off picking up from a small bit we discussed last episode on Matias Almeyda, except now there's another coach in that boat, Hernan Losada for DC United. We talk Losada's time in DC and whether or not this firing was fair. Next we talk about the first round of the US Open Cup for many MLS teams, specifically, the few teams that were upset by USL sides. We talk about whether USL sides have been improving, or if the results are more from MLS teams not caring and playing rotated squads. Finally, we end with Gyasi Zardes' move from the Columbus Crew to the Colorado Rapids. Will this be the move to get him a ticket to Qatar? A lot of fun topics, but we want to hear from you as well. What are your thoughts on these topics? If you like this series please let us know! Recorded on: 4/24/2022 Let us know your thoughts and if we got it right or right! Monterey Bay FC is on a bye week and it comes at the perfect time as the team is struggling with a number of injuries. The biggest news of the week was the final act of the Matias Almeyda saga in San Jose. After a 2-2 draw against Nashville SC, the team announced that they had parted ways with the charismatic manager. Monterey Bay FC has one match left before their much-anticipated opening home match on May 7. San Antonio FC is looking for another clean sheet against a Monterey side that has struggled to get the ball in the net.
Two Major League Soccer clubs have decided to make coaching changes with the San Jose Earthquakes sacking Matias Almeyda and D.C. United is due to sack Hernan Losada. Sean and Erik some of the story behind both firings, how Erik, as a DC United supporter feels about the move, and which team would be a better option for coaches looking at either job? The CONCACAF W Draw is done and joining the United States Women's National Team are rivals Mexico, the 2019 World Cup debutants Jamaica, and Haiti. Should there be any concern with the USWNT drawing the tougher teams out of the two groups? Is there a chance that anyone but Mexico going through this? Also, Group B sees Canada facing Costa Rica, Panama, and Trinidad & Tobago. Some Way Too Early Predictions are on the way. Finally, head scouts take their leave for Manchester United as Erik Ten Haag is all but appointed as the new United manager. After the whooping the squad received at the hands of Liverpool 4-0 there's a lot of talk about a sweeping revolution. Who are the players soon to be out, who should be sold, and could we really see 10 new players in one transfer window? Apologies for the background noise when Erik speaks in the first 5 to 8 minutes of the show, as Sean started recording as a family get-together was ending. We analyze the second game of the season from PayPal Park against the Columbus Crew and talk to Matias Almeyda and Francisco Calvo after the game.
The San Jose Earthquakes got the 2022 MLS season underway by getting steamrolled at home by New York Red Bulls. Matias Almeyda deployed an experimental lineup with Judson on the bench and Jackson Yuiell starting at center back. So far, the experiment hasn't worked out, but luckily the Quakes have an in-form Columbus Crew team visiting Pay Pay Park this Saturday. That gives them one more chance to prove that they plan on playing competitive soccer the rest of the season. We are one week away from the start of the USL Championship season, and our intro into Monterey Bay FC continues. This week we dig into the defensive side of the ball, and we talk about the signings so far and where they may line up against Phoenix Rising.
